There's a lot more to gems than just sparkly rocks. While we can't promise they'll cleanse bad vibes, we can dive into the incredible science behind them. In this episode, Andrew and Taylor chat with Mubashir Mansoor, a gemologist and PhD candidate in Materials Science at Istanbul Technical University, to uncover the rich past of gemstones and how they are shaping the future. From restoring a man's sight to a possible future in quantum computing, these crystals hold more secrets than you'd think. We trace the evolution of gem technology, from bamboo rods and coal to high-tech scanners that can spot microscopic flaws and reveal exactly where a gem was mined. Most importantly we discuss how gemologists are looking for help from materials scientists and engineers to help crack the secrets of these sparkly rocks. Gordan Kljajic is the co-founder of GEM DiCom - The first digital commodity backed by investment-grade gemstones with a real-time proof of reserve and minimal drawdown. Why you should listen DiCom, short for Digital Commodity, is the term coined to describe what GEM actually represents. The word “token” has been diluted by years of speculative hype and vaporware, so GEM intentionally steps away from that language. This isn't a marketing promise dressed up in blockchain buzzwords — it's a verifiable claim. Each GEM is backed by a reserve of audited, securely stored, investment-grade gemstones and cash equivalents. That reserve anchors GEM's value in the real world, while making it transparent and tradable on-chain. Unlike stablecoins, GEM isn't pegged to fiat, doesn't fix its price, and doesn't grant redemption rights. Its market price floats freely, shaped by supply and demand. But beneath that floating price is a solid foundation: independently appraised, tangible assets that provide a real floor. Each GEM exists only because there's a corresponding value behind it, continuously visible through real-time proof of reserves. It behaves like a traditional commodity — its price can fluctuate, but the intrinsic backing gives it substance, similar to gold or oil. Calling GEM a Digital Commodity isn't just semantics. It's a deliberate legal and structural choice. By positioning GEM as a commodity rather than a security or stablecoin, it avoids the regulatory straightjacket that binds many financial instruments and fiat-linked tokens. This opens the door to a freer, more flexible model — while simultaneously offering exposure to an asset class that's rare, historically uncorrelated to mainstream markets, and inherently resistant to inflation. GEM bridges the gap between the physical and digital worlds. It lets anyone store value in one of humanity's oldest and most enduring forms of wealth — gemstones — without needing vaults, specialized knowledge, or accepting illiquidity. It's preservation meets participation: timeless assets, brought natively into the digital realm. That is the essence of DiCom. That is what GEM stands for. Tonight, we'll read all about gemstones from the book Jewels and the Woman, written by Marianne Ostier and published in 1958. Marianne Ostier was not only an author but also a celebrated jewelry designer in mid-20th century New York. Along with her husband, she ran a renowned atelier that catered to an international clientele, including film stars, royalty, and collectors. Her training as a painter and sculptor in Vienna gave her designs a distinctive artistic sensibility, blending classical elegance with modern lines. The history of gemstones is as fascinating as their appearance. Ancient cultures ascribed protective and mystical powers to stones, such as amethyst for clarity of mind, or turquoise for safe travel. Over centuries, classification systems emerged to group gems by their mineral composition, as well as their beauty and rarity. Beyond color, jewelers also considered “water”—a poetic term describing the clarity and brilliance of the stone. A gem of “first water” is one of near-perfect transparency, prized above all others. — read by 'V' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! The Righteous Gemstones is a big broad comedy about excess, except for the first episode of season 4, which takes place nearly 200 years before the main series. With the American Civil as the backdrop, this story is gritty and dirty, a complete departure from the bulk of the series. Pee-wee as Himself is a disarming documentary playing with what is true and what is Hollywood gamesmanship. Featuring an uncompromising interview with Paul Reubens as he wrestles with where Pee-Wee starts and Reubens ends. A common thread between these two projects is pristine sound work that leads the charge. The Emmy nominated Supervising sound editors/re-recording mixers for both Righteous Gemstones (Nicholas Renbeck) and Pee-wee as Himself (Daniel Timmons) join Tonebenders for a fascinating talk, as they compare and contrast working on these two very different projects. You can do more then you can imagine in a short amount of time....On this episode we are looking at even more Emmy nominated stuff as we go behind the scenes on one of the bigger and bolder episodes of a sitcom that this critic has ever seen. It's time for 'The Righteous Gemstones'.In Season 4, Episode 1, "Prelude" takes us to the height of the civil war where Elijah Gemstone (Bradley Cooper) receives a divine wake up call. It's only 39 minutes long, but it's as busy and loaded as a feature film and a big part of that is cinematographer Paul Daley as this is a big and loud (and Emmy Nominated) episode. We got to talk to Paul about coming on to the job, the freedom he had to give this a big and bold feel while shooting mostly out in the wilderness and so very much more....Catch up on 'The Righteous Gemstones; on Crave up here in Canada.

Myanmar is the world's leading producer of jade. Up to 90 percent of global supply of the precious stone is mined in the country's northern Kachin state, despite a decades-long armed rebellion raging there. According to the NGO Global Witness, some 90 percent of this jade is then smuggled out of the country – almost all of it to neighbouring China. Once favoured by emperors to defy death, jade and its knock-offs continue to be worn as a status symbol. Our correspondents Yena Lee, Yorben den Hartog and Jasmine Ling report.

James DuMont #4 Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I chat with actor James DuMont for the FOURTH time! James has been on every other year; 2019, 2021, 2023, and now 2025. Obviously, we don't do the "how did you get from where you were to where you are" thing this time. Go back and check out his previous appearances for that. In this episode, we chat about the conclusion of HBO's hit series The Righteous Gemstones. Season 4 was the final season and was released not long ago. James played Chad on 20 episodes of the series, and James' real life son Kelton played Pontius Gemstone. James shares fun stories from the set, including some of the things he learned, some of the things he appreciated, and some of the things that he will miss from working with this amazing group of professionals. Next, we move onto a discussion about his new movie 'Unit 234', where he stared alongside the great Don Johnson. This was filmed during covid, and it is where James actually caught covid for the first time. So he explains what it was like to be 'trapped' in a 4-star hotel on the beach in The Cayman Islands. The DuMonts both recently made a change in management after 30 years, so I ask him all about why, and how it has been going since the change. Finally, we discuss James' other job. For more than a decade, James has been teaching actors how to properly film and submit self-taped auditions. For over fifteen years, James has himself been booking auditions via self-taped submissions. As a matter of fact, James has book well over a million dollars in acting jobs from self-tapes. He has over 2500 students across many countries and continents, and he gives a couple of tips to the Streetwalkers! Make sure you check out his 'On Camera Workouts' Instagram page and reach out to him if you would like to participate.

Join us for a very special episode of "Cup of Justice" as investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell chat with the incredibly talented actor, Valyn Hall, best known for her unforgettable role as Aunt Tiffany in HBO's The Righteous Gemstones. In this insightful and hilarious conversation, we dive deep into Valyn's experiences both on and off the screen. Learn how the show accurately, albeit exaggerated, portrays Southern culture and family loyalty, making the South itself a character. Valyn shares her pride in her Atlanta hometown and its unique "weirdness". Plus we'll get into Valyn's journey in acting, her favorite scenes to film, including chaotic moments at Jason's Steakhouse and heartfelt scenes with other female cast members, plus insights into working with the "cool" and "intense" Walton Goggins (Uncle Baby Billy). We're also discussing the film industry in the Southeast, including why filming in South Carolina versus Georgia has certain disadvantages, and her perspective on the term "Y'allywood". From character origins and filming challenges to Southern identity and fan interactions, this episode offers a candid look into the world of The Righteous Gemstones, from the perspective of the incomparable Valyn Hall. ☕ Cups Up! ⚖️ Episode References Watch “The Righteous Gemstones” on Max
