Everyone's most anticipated movie of the year (wink, wink) - SNOW WHITE, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot - has released in theaters. Listen, I watched Snow White about as much as any guy when I was younger, but I haven't exactly kept it as a favorite since I was like 5 years old. Also, I'm completely sick of Disney live-action remakes and had less than no interest going into this movie. I do love Marc Webb as a filmmaker though, even though I don't love all his movies, because he's fantastic at creating realistic character relationships onscreen. Snow White, though, wasn't ever exactly going to be the best showcase of his skills. So, did Snow White surpass my rock bottom expectations? Find out in this review!Snow White:Directed by: Marc WebbScreenplay by: Erin Cressida WilsonBased on the fairy tale by: The Brothers GrimmProduced by: Jeff LeBoff, Marc PlattExecutive Producer: Callum McDougallMusic by: Jeff Morrow, Benji Pasek, Justin PaulCinematography by: Mandy WalkerCasting by: Mark SangerProduction Design by: Kave QuinnCostume Design by: Sandy PowellCast: Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, Andrew Burnap, Jeremy Swift, Jason Kravitz , Martin Klebba, George Salazar, Tituss Burgess, Andy Gretelueschen, Andrew Barth Feldman, Emilia FaucherSynopsis: A beautiful girl, Snow White, takes refuge in the forest in the house of seven dwarfs to hide from her stepmother, the wicked Queen. An ode to an unconventional friendship in a whimsical yet ghoulish context. Joe wrote this song using the "my (blank) is a (blank)" format he'd been trying to crack for a while! Dennis is joined via Zoom by three of the talents behind the new play The Bottoming Process: playwright Nicholas Pilapil and actors George Salazar and Rick Cosnett. The play, which runs through June 12th at the Renberg Theater in Hollywood is a romantic comedy about two writers in different stages of their careers who fall in love and grapple with issues of race, sex and power. Nicholas talks about what inspired him to write the play, where the title comes from, how living all your life in LA effects how you feel about your dreams and how his mother dragging him to see Rent at the Pantages when he was in high school changed his life forever. George talks about the thrill of playing a lead character who is lot like him, performing love and sex scenes on stage, what it was like to play George Conway (Kellyanne Conway's husband) in Ryan Murphy's Impeachment and why he's ready and willing to star in George Santos: The Musical. Rick talks about what drew him to the play, growing up on a farm in Zimbabwe, co-starring in The Flash, which is airing its series finale this month, playing twins in a TV movie and appearing opposite Joel Edgerton in the new Paul Schrader film Master Gardener. Other topics include: Be More Chill Tony night trauma made worse by James Corden, what it's like to play a Tiny Desk Concert at the NPR offices, Rick's playing the Succession theme song on the piano, the wit and wisdom of Anne Hathaway and why they do theater. https://culturalarts.lalgbtcenter.org/the-bottoming-process/
George Salazar is best known for his work on Broadway as “Michael” in the cult sensation Be More Chill, a role for which he won a Lucille Lortel Award, two Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards, and garnered nominations for both Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards. His act two number, “Michael in the Bathroom” has been streamed over 50 million times. His theater credits also include “Seymour,” opposite Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, in the critically-acclaimed Pasadena Playhouse production of Little Shop of Horrors, his Drama Desk-nominated performance as “Grover” and “Mr. D” in The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, “Michael” in the off-Broadway revival of Jonathan Larson's tick, tick… BOOM!, David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim's Here Lies Love, The Broadway revival of Godspell, and more. He has appeared on television as “George Conway” in American Crime Story: Impeachment and recurred as “Eric Sosa” on NBC's Superstore for two seasons. George is also the voice of “Dad Hatter” in Disney Junior's animated series, Alice's Wonderland Bakery. Philanthropic/Activist Causes: I'm a huge ally and defender of Trans rights. I also care deeply about immigration/deportation, specifically the string of transfers of incarcerated people who finish their sentences for non-violent crimes only to then be transferred to ICE detainment.
Today we'll be exploring the Broadway musical Be More Chill! I'll also be interviewing "Michael in the Bathroom" himself... George Salazar!!!

Catapulting into the limelight after originating the role of Michael Mell in Be More Chill on Broadway, George Salazar speaks candidly about struggling with his identity growing up, as a child of a Filipino immigrant and an Ecuadorian immigrant. He recently created a video exploring his self discovery, titled “My Identity”, as part of a virtual commission he received from Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim. George also opens up about his goals as an artist moving forward - creating work for people that look like him, so they too feel like anything is possible. Born and raised in Florida, George shares that theater and Broadway weren’t a part of his family’s life - “I didn’t know what a musical was,” he says. But he loved entertaining, and admits he was always the class clown in school. George “accidentally” discovered theater his junior year of high school, after singing his own Weird Al inspired parody in computer class and being asked to audition for the school's production of Little Shop of Horrors. George earned a BFA in Musical Theater from University of Florida, moved straight to NYC, and made his Broadway debut a few years later. In this episode, we talk about: The inspiration behind “My Identity” Why he decided to move to LA How he discovered theater Interning in NYC during FL summer stock seasons, because no one would cast him The exact moment he freed himself from the need for validation How and why his artistic process during The Lightning Thief was different from others Connect with George: Watch "My Identity" Instagram: @georgesalazar Twitter: @georgesalazar Web: www.thegeorgesalazar.com/ Connect with The Theatre Podcast: Support us on Patreon: Patreon.com/TheTheatrePodcast Twitter & Instagram: @theatre_podcast Facebook.com/OfficialTheatrePodcast TheTheatrePodcast.com Alan's personal Instagram: @alanseales Email me at feedback@thetheatrepodcast.com. The Friends recorded on June 7. This week is a very special episode because there's not one, but TWO, podcast episodes. In the planning for this week, Diep and Jose realized that they had too much content and they didn't want to cut any of it. So this week will be a two-parter. Part one is an interview with George Salazar and part two will be a discussion of Hamilton on Disney+. George Salazar is the beloved actor behind Be More Chill on Broadway. He also starred in a buzzy revival of Little Shop of Horrors in 2019, opposite MJ Rodriguez. Salazar has been doing a lot during his COVID: he sang in a Pride virtual concert in June and hosted his own weekly talk show (which he's currently revamping and planning on bringing back). He came onto the podcast to talk about the upcoming Night of a Thousand Judys concert and his late-in-life love for Judy Garland. Plus, Salazar also talks about why he criticized the Tony Awards on Twitter. Here are links to things that Friends talked about in this episode. George Salazar's commitment to his fans started at the stage door of The Drowsy Chaperone and Norbert Leo Butz. Since then, George has been as dedicated to the stage door as he is to his performances. As Michael Mell in Be More Chill, George's song "Michael in the Bathroom" connected with the show's young fanbase and cemented his place in the Broadway fandom. Listen to the episode to find out more about Norbert Leo Butz's impact, and hear from George for the first time about what it was like to close Be More Chill and say good bye to Michael and those fans at that Stage Door.Follow George Salazar on social media @georgesalazarwww.thegeorgesalazar.comFollow Lara on Twitter: @fangirllaraFollow Lara on Instagram: @fangirllara_Like Stage Door Stories on Facebook
