As much as we may all think that there are many different types of financial models, there really are only two: those that despite our blood, sweat and tears don't get used to drive better decision making; and then there are those that do, that really get used to inform decisions that make a positive impact for our organisations. Today's guest mentor Lance Rubin shares with us some practical advice we can all start doing now with our financial modelling to drive more value and better decisions in our business. Some of the key points from the episode are: • The 3 skills Lance developed to make his models more impactful. • Describes some baby steps to raise your financial modelling skills. • The 5 building blocks to be a successful Financial Modeller. In the latest episode of “Inside the Writer’s Head,” you’ll get to know Lance Rubin and his hilarious Young Adult novel “Denton Little’s Death Date.” The podcast, hosted by the Library Foundation’s Writer-In-Residence, Kurt Dinan, focuses on writing, reading, and creativity. Lance discusses how he entered the world of Young Adult Fiction, and the challenges and expectations that come along with writing for that genre. His book is set in a world where everyone knows the date of their death, and follows a teenager, Denton Little, through the hours leading up to his “death date.” Lance also discusses what it takes to write comedy, and how real life friends influenced the characters in his novels.

"This is Lance Rubin, author of Denton Little’s Death Date and Denton Little’s Still Not Dead. The first book is about a 17-year-old named Denton Little who lives in a world that’s much like our own except for one key difference -- everybody knows their death date. And, Denton Little is a 17-year-old whose death date, when the first book starts, is tomorrow, the same day as his senior prom."
