Joseph was an ethically better and exponentially more capable man than his eleven half-brothers; and they hated him so much for it, they conspired to murder him. Yeshua of Nazareth told us, "Blessed are you when people hate and revile you for (your faith in) My Identity's sake (as the true Messiah)." What makes goodness or commitment to the truth lead to being hated?

A Fine Balance: a podcast that explores how to find a work-life balance that works for you
What did you learn from your parents about the way they worked when you were growing up? Did their work-life balance approach inspire you to follow in their footsteps? Or did it have the opposite effect and encourage you to do things differently? In turn as a parent yourself, how do you think the values you place on your work are internalised by your children? Does it matter? In this short Work, Life Balance Lesson segment I try to unpack this knotty subject of parent-child dynamic through sharing examples of the observations I've made on the subject, and reaching some concluding lessons that have stayed with me from all those conversations. Here are the links to some of the interviews referenced in this episode, and you can access the full catalogue of 'A Fine Balance' interviews at www.a-fine-balance.com. Step into a journey of brokenness, healing, and hope with Laney Rene as she shares her powerful story with you and me this week! Laney beautifully articulates her struggles with questioning God's healing and how God redeemed her belief in it. Her story displays the profound ways in which God uses pain and suffering to exhibit His glory and grace. She tells us about her transformative encounters with God and how she felt His presence redefining her identity and value through pivotal life moments. Her vulnerability encourages me to seek such transformative experiences with my precious King! She emphasizes the importance of shifting from a performance-centered life to a grace-centered one, encouraging us to find refuge in God and derive confidence from our relationship with Him. Our conversation touches on the theme of finding wholeness and redemption amidst brokenness, mirrored by Laney's experiences of peace and joy even in the face of loss and pain. Laney expresses her heartfelt prayer for her daughter to inherit her lessons without enduring the same pain. The power of a mother's prayer is truly inspiring! We talk about fatherhood, earthly relationships, and the beauty of finding redemption and healing despite challenging circumstances. Laney's story exemplifies the resilience and hope captured in 2nd Corinthians 4:8—being hard-pressed but not crushed. It's a testament to the enduring power of faith and the unwavering love of God. Here are some of my personal takeaways from this conversation; they focus on Laney's message about the importance of hope, community, prayer, personal transformation, and seeking intimacy with God as foundational principles for living a purposeful and grace-filled life. I am sharing as many as I could think of, hoping a couple of them will really speak to you! - Believe in hope even in moments of perplexity and lack of understanding. - Embrace the truth that God can redeem and restore belief in healing, even in the face of doubt and questioning. - Recognize that God uses our pain and suffering to display His glory and extends grace based on our needs. - Find strength and wisdom in the community of believers, learning from each other's journeys and experiences. - Extend blessings and prayers of grace over relationships, seeking God's love and healing for others. - Embrace personal life experiences, as they can be transformative and lead to encounters with God's presence and grace. - Look for moments where God redefines identity and value, recognizing the transforming power of His love. - Emphasize internal transformation by seeking God's presence, despite outward appearances or circumstances. - Share prayers of love and healing for women in different seasons of life, asking for peace, health, and the understanding of being God's beloved daughters. - Seek to understand and share personal stories, acknowledging that everyone has a unique relationship with their earthly father. - Recognize that God can redeem and heal any story, regardless of the influence of our earthly fathers. - Embrace the journey of shifting from a performance-focused mindset to a grace-filled lifestyle, letting go of perfectionism and striving. - Find refuge and confidence in a relationship with God rather than in following specific steps or formulas. - Embrace the posture of a child seeking intimacy with God, recognizing the pure trust and love in being His child. Sometimes we happen to read articles and blog posts that ring true to us. Occasionally, we may even think, “Hey, this author could be talking about me and my experiences!” Well, guess what? I had this sensation when reading an article in TIEonline entitled “My Identity as an International Educator.” The article really nailed the character strengths, dispositions, and experiences of individuals who “go global” to teach. I shared the article with Audrey and said, “Let's get the author, Sandy Sheppard, on the podcast” to help our listeners further build their understanding of what it means to be an international educator. Fortunately, Sandy said yes to our request for an interview. There were many takeaways from our interview with Sandy. One that may not become apparent to many of us until we have been “away from home” for a while is the extent to which international educators are “different.” We discussed these differences and how they impacted Sandy when she repatriated to New Zealand and attempted to resume her teaching career “back home.” If you have tried something similar, you may be able to connect with how she felt about what ensued.Sandy is an international educator who was born and raised in New Zealand. Sandy embarked on her international career three decades ago in Jakarta, Indonesia. Presently, she serves as an Elementary Principal in the vibrant city of Yangon, Myanmar. Sandy has raised two children internationally and advocates for the profound impact of high-quality international education in shaping future global citizens poised to enact positive change in the world. Our guiding question was, “What does it mean to be an international educator?”.Sandy touched on many themes that we know our veteran international educator listeners will be able to connect with! This episode was recorded on October 3, 2023.Contact Information: LinkedIn | Instagram: Sandy Lee SheppardResources Mentioned in the Episode: My Identity as an International Educator article in TIEonline. Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Romans 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. I am DEAD to SIN 1 John 3:4 “Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.” “Sin”- Greek word: HAMARTIA- “missing the MARK” (intentionally or unintentionally) of God's moral STANDARD or law as described in His word. 5 Reasons Sin is a Big Deal: Sin SEPARATES Isaiah 59:2 Sin leads to DEATH James 1:14-15 Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death Sin keeps us from God's BEST Galatians 5:19-21 Sin TRAPS the sinner John 8:34 Sin is a COUNTERFEIT 1 John 3:8 Romans 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. My IDENTITY is no longer in SIN, it is in CHRIST. Psalm 51:5 Surely I was sinful at birth sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned— Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. God's GRACE does not simply address our ISSUES, it changes our IDENTITY. Romans 6:3-8 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! I am no longer a SLAVE to sin, but a SERVANT of Christ. Sin is a ruthless MASTER disguised as a fun-loving FRIEND. Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not MANAGE sin, MURDER it. Romans 6:13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. When I am tempted to GIVE IN to sin, I will REACH OUT and receive God's grace. Romans 6:14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. Grace is not PERMISSION to sin; it is the POWER to live free. Romans 7:24-25 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/coastalchurch/message

Monica Macias, the youngest daughter of Equatorial Guinea's first president at just seven years old, lands in Pyongyang, North Korea in 1979. Her father had sent her to the country to study, but what was meant to be a shorter visit grew to a decade-long stay when her father was ousted in a coup. Monica stays in Pyongyang until 1994, when she graduates from Pyongyang University of Light Industry, and she decides to travel the world: to China, to Spain, to South Korea, to Equatorial Guinea, the U.S. and the U.K. Everywhere she goes, people are puzzled by her background: an African woman who speaks perfect, flawless, accentless Korean. She first told her story in her biography “I'm Monica from Pyongyang” was published in Korean in 2013. She now tells her story in English in Black Girl from Pyongyang: In Search of My Identity (Duckworth, 2023). In this interview, we talk about Monica's story, her time in Pyongyang, her travels around the world, and what misperceptions we may have about one of the world's most isolated countries. Do you often forget that Jesus is with you in the boat when you face life's storms? Is your tendency to panic and worry before you pray? Do you replace your sense of “peace” with panic? If you answered yes to any of these questions this edition of Finish Strong is for you.Steve Gardner realized that his sense of God's presence was “underdeveloped.” He wanted a greater awareness of God not only during the storms of life but all the time. He set out on a journey to develop a plan to help him start and end every day with a deeper understanding of who God is and who he is in God's eyes. This journey resulted in the creation of a powerful, Biblically based, God inspired “prayer” that will help you achieve Inner Peace in 40 seconds. Would you like to get into better shape? Have you started and stopped an exercise regime too many times to count? Then you will want to tune-in to today's episode which will provide you with some great ideas on how to start a fitness habit. Begin by reminding yourself why you want to improve on your health. Remind yourself that you want to improve on your fitness because you love your body, not that you hate it. Remind yourself that each of us is different and you need to take time to find the right routine, schedule and form of exercise for you. Think of it as building blocks. Working with small increments of time and building upon them. You don't need to start with an hour a day. I started with 5 minutes a day - you can find 5 minutes for yourself. You deserve to add you to your schedule. By building a habit of fitness, to bring out the athlete that you are, consistency is key. That's why beginning with 5 minutes versus no minutes works. Then you can build upon that with another 5 minutes. You may need to play with this idea for awhile in order to figure out what time of day works for you. This may also change as the seasons change, as your life changes or as your job changes. My mantra is "No Matter What." You have a choice to take control over your body. Do not let outside influences tell you otherwise. You are in control. My jam is 80's music. Music is magic and stirs the soul. Use that to your advantage to keep your spirits lifted. My Identity shift is becoming a person who exercises. What have you done in the past that has worked for you that you can build upon? Until you actually do the physical work, you won't know how to do it and you won't know what works for you. It takes time to build a healthier body but when you do, you will live a more inspired life. #Fitness #Flourish #Habit Find out more about Flourish at the links below: ➡️ https://www.Flourish.Mom ➡️ Facebook https://www.Facebook.Com/Flourish.Mom ➡️ Twitter: https://www.Twitter.Com/FlourishMom ➡️ Instagram: https://www.Instagram.com/FlourishMom ➡️ Pinterest: https://www.Pinterest.ca/WowFlourishMom ➡️ Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/2BsdNNZ1Zqw #morningworkout #believeinyourself #motivation #goals
In episode 1 of our new series, "My Identity" we're asking the questions: Who are you? Who do people think you are? Who did God make you to be? Join us as we wrestle with figuring out who we are... together.
Contact Lenses, Birds, Social Tip, Spam Folder, My Identity, Best Grocery Line, Baby Buys Amazon, Bible Relevancy, Marriage Vows, Your Soul, Train The Flies, Tilly, We All Worship Something Power Of Story; Quotes: “Kohl's wants me to know I won.” “Do you want to be healed?” “I'm God's kid.” “I cannot let my soul run on empty.”
What defines you as a person? Does what folks standards set in society dictate who you are? Does social media, your parents, your past experiences, your current events, your accomplishments, your dreams, goals, and aspirations define you? All of those things can influence your decisions, choices, and outcomes if we allow them to. We ought not to put all our eggs in one basket of life and the things of this world. We need to pursue our creator because he created us after his image and likeness therefore as we discover more of who God is through his only begotten son Jesus we will soon find our true selves. We go through life as babies learning ourselves through Discovery of the world around us. We go from discovering that we have hands and feet to growing pains of adolescence to Teenagers and young adults to older adults to elderly if we are blessed to live a long life. We should through all our stages of life walk with God as much as we humanly can and the Holy Spirit will help you through lives journeys, twists and turns. With all of that being said I'm still learning myself daily. Everyday I strive to know myself better and everyday there is an area where I miss the mark but I will keep on pressing. What I know to be true is that My Identity is in Christ Jesus!!!! Roman's 8:17 (Heir) says: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Joh 8:36 KJV (Free) If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Joh 15:15 KJV (Friend) Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. 2Co 1:21-22 KJV (Sealed) 21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. (The Holy Spirit is a pledge in our hearts that we are sealed by God) Deu 14:2 KJV (Choosen) For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. Eph 5:1 KJV (Beloved) Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; Rom 5:1 KJV(Justified) Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Psa 103:11-12 KJV( Forgiven) 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 2Co 5:21 KJV(Righteous)For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Rom 3:24 KJV( Redeemed)Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Gal 3:26 KJV(Child of God) For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 2Co 5:17 KJV( New Creation) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Phi 3:20 KJV ( Citizen of Heaven) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: When I worship him and learn of him I start to find me. I will find the answers to my issues and challenges and will find my purpose I will find my area of strength my areas of focus for which God has given me the power and faith to break the yoke of bondage. God has given us all a lane and faith to walk worthy of the vocation he has called us too. I must give God praise even in my trials because except a seed goes into the ground to die it can't bare fruit. I have to know that there are things within my flesh that create friction with the parts of my Spirit and that don't honor God. When I do this I'm discovering more and more of my true self my true identity. John 15 read!!! We are talking about beauty from ashes in Season 5. Jesus reminds us in John 16:33, “In this world, you will have trouble, but take courage, for I have overcome the world.”God never intends for us to stay stuck in our sin, pain, or deep sorrow. He heals, restores, and calls us onward. Reminding us that in Him, we have great purpose and hope. And that's the key to the ashes that cover our days in this life. Christ came to bring beauty from ashes. In this episode Host, Holly Newton sat down and chatted with special guest, Bonnie O'Neill. They talked about:Bonnie's faith crisis when her son faced an unexpected diagnosis and how she reawakened to a stronger faithThe emotional weight so many mothers (and fathers) carry and how the only way to find healing is to go deeper in and attend to what you discover you're carryingThe pivotal role of releasing control if we want to awaken to new hope in the dark seasons of lifeBonnie is an inspirational communicator who is passionate about restoring HOPE to hurting people. She has had a front-row seat to the stress of raising a child with chronic illness, as her son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at age 5 and two of her siblings were diagnosed with T1D as children. Her new book, Chronic Hope: Raising a Child with Chronic Illness with Grace, Courage, and Love helps readers discover HOPE in the unexpected and challenging seasons of life. While Chronic Hope was written for parents raising a child with a chronic condition, the themes Bonnie raises in the book are universal. The story of Chronic Hope is ultimately a story of accepting what we did not choose—by learning to release control and accept what can't be changed. Chronic Hope offers all readers tools for releasing anger, fear, guilt, shame, jealousy, bitterness, and judgment in order to live a life filled with inner-freedom, strength, grace, courage, love, and most of all, hope. Her first book, My Identity is in Christ, examines the identity struggles of nine biblical women and explores how to break free from those strongholds to live in the freedom God intends for us. Bonnie is a spiritual director and the Executive Director of the faith-based nonprofit Alpha Mid Atlantic. Bonnie has lived as an expatriate in both Paris and London and currently lives in suburban Philadelphia. She's happiest when in the company of her husband and three adult children. “For the Christian, justification is completely the work of God, which not only forgives our sins but also attributes to us the righteousness of Jesus. Justification can never be earned by our good works; it is only received by faith, based upon the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.” In this episode of Kitchen Table Theology, we will discuss the doctrine of Justification, the brevity of what it truly means, and how it affects our standing with Jesus Christ. [00:01 - 04:23] What’s The Difference Between Systematic Theology and Doctrine?Systematic Theology is any study that answers the question, “What does the whole Bible teach us today?” Doctrine is what the whole Bible teaches us today about a particular topic. [04:24 - 08:05] What Does Justification Mean? Biblically defined: Justification means to pronounce, accept, and treat as just.1Justification is completely the work of God, which not only forgives our sins but also attributes to us the righteousness of Jesus. Justification can never be earned by our good works.[08:06 - 10:13] Unpacking Justification From Scripture Acts 13:38-39[10:14 - 14:51] What Does It Mean to be Justified? To have your sins forgiven in such a way that God's honor and integrity are preserved by it.If God merely swept sin under the rug, He could no longer be regarded as the God of justice and truth. But God has found a way, through Jesus, to lay the guilt of our life and heart upon his own Son.[14:52 - 16:45] How does Justification Affect My Standing with Jesus and My Identity in Him? Jesus shed his blood on the cross and rose from the grave to reconcile us to God.Both the Old and New Testaments assure us, “The just shall live by faith”[16:46 - 21:42] So Now What? Romans 5:1 Tells us that, because of Christ, we are now at perfect peace with God.Final words from Pastor Jeff and Jen. Tweetable Quotes:“Justification means to have your sins forgiven in such a way that God's honor and integrity are preserved by it.” — Pastor Jeff Cranston“Justification means that we are restored to favor with God… that the stain of condemnation has been replaced with God’s favor ... I am now, because of Christ, at perfect peace with God. And God has declared that so.” — Jen DentonBible Verses Mentioned: Romans 3:24Romans 3:28Romans 5:9Romans 5:1Galatians 2:16Ephesians 2:8 Titus 3:5Acts 13:38-392 Corinthians 5:21Habakkuk 2:4 Romans 1:17Galatians 3:11Hebrews 10:38Resources Mentioned/ Footnotes:1 Walter A. Welcome to Over the Rainbow, an LGBTQ+ podcast dedicated to queer education and queer representation. Hosted by Rachel Keighley (she/her). Episode 21: Trans visibility, gender dysphoria and LGBTQ+ education with Phil Hill (they/them) Phil is a trans, genderqueer and mental health activist who uses their social media platform to talk about all things gender and mental health in a raw and open way. They are also writing a book to make the workplace more inclusive to trans people, so do keep an eye out for that. In today’s episode Phil and I talk about trans visibility. We discuss the difficulties of growing up in a cis-gendered, binary world and how a lack of trans visibility can limit your exploration of your gender when you can’t see yourself. We answer the questions of how you can navigate the world without this representation, and what effects this lack of representation has on young people? From there we talk about the importance of LGBTQ+ education from a young age and engaging with trans folk to understand their lived experiences, what it means to be trans, and what gender dysphoria is. Catapulting into the limelight after originating the role of Michael Mell in Be More Chill on Broadway, George Salazar speaks candidly about struggling with his identity growing up, as a child of a Filipino immigrant and an Ecuadorian immigrant. He recently created a video exploring his self discovery, titled “My Identity”, as part of a virtual commission he received from Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim. George also opens up about his goals as an artist moving forward - creating work for people that look like him, so they too feel like anything is possible. Born and raised in Florida, George shares that theater and Broadway weren’t a part of his family’s life - “I didn’t know what a musical was,” he says. But he loved entertaining, and admits he was always the class clown in school. George “accidentally” discovered theater his junior year of high school, after singing his own Weird Al inspired parody in computer class and being asked to audition for the school's production of Little Shop of Horrors. George earned a BFA in Musical Theater from University of Florida, moved straight to NYC, and made his Broadway debut a few years later. In this episode, we talk about: The inspiration behind “My Identity” Why he decided to move to LA How he discovered theater Interning in NYC during FL summer stock seasons, because no one would cast him The exact moment he freed himself from the need for validation How and why his artistic process during The Lightning Thief was different from others Connect with George: Watch "My Identity" Instagram: @georgesalazar Twitter: @georgesalazar Web: www.thegeorgesalazar.com/ Connect with The Theatre Podcast: Support us on Patreon: Patreon.com/TheTheatrePodcast Twitter & Instagram: @theatre_podcast Facebook.com/OfficialTheatrePodcast TheTheatrePodcast.com Alan's personal Instagram: @alanseales Email me at feedback@thetheatrepodcast.com. For more information about Legacy Church please check out or website by clicking the link below. http://www.legacychurchnm.comHow do I find my identity?Where or from whom do I get my identity from?Acts 7:22-30, Acts 7:34-35 Moses was educated in all the learning of the Egyptians, and he was a man of power in words and deeds. But when he was approaching the age of forty, it entered his mind to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel. And when he saw one of them being treated unjustly, he defended him and took vengeance for the oppressed by striking down the Egyptian. And he supposed that his brethren understood that God was granting them deliverance through him, but they did not understand. On the following day he appeared to them as they were fighting together, and he tried to reconcile them in peace, saying, 'Men, you are brethren, why do you injure one another?' But the one who was injuring his neighbor pushed him away, saying, 'W HO MADE YOU A RULER AND JUDGE OVER US? Y OU DO NOT MEAN TO KILL ME AS YOU KILLED THE E GYPTIAN YESTERDAY, DO YOU?' At this remark, M OSES FLED AND BECAME AN ALIEN IN THE LAND OF M IDIAN, where he became the father of two sons. "After forty years had passed, AN ANGEL APPEARED TO HIM IN THE WILDERNESS OF M OUNT Sinai, IN THE FLAME OF A BURNING THORN BUSH.I HAVE CERTAINLY SEEN THE OPPRESSION OF M Y PEOPLE IN E GYPT AND HAVE HEARD THEIR GROANS, AND I HAVE COME DOWN TO RESCUE THEM; COME NOW, AND I WILL SEND YOU TO E GYPT.' "This Moses whom they disowned, saying, 'W HO MADE YOU A RULER AND A JUDGE?' is the one whom God sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer with the help of the angel who appeared to him in the thorn bush.Exodus 3:1-8, Exodus 3:10, Exodus 3:14-15 Now Moses was pasturing the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed. So Moses said, "I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up." When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am." Then He said, "Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." He said also, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Then Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings. So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt."God said to Moses, " I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'" God, furthermore, said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations.Maybe God is preparing you for something great when you can't understand the why.How do we come before the LORD? Do we show up with familiarity or honor? Yes, God is our friend but He is also our sovereign Lord. Do you just approach him casually?Where do you try and get your identity? Popularity – you may have had it, but then it's gone. Possessions – “check out what I have” – but that gets old really quick. Position – you can lose that! Performance – You may think you are good, but what happens when you fail? Have you ever failed? Moses gives many excuses why his leadership would not be acceptable: (1) unworthy, (2) ignorant, (3) lacked eloquence, (4) others would not believe him. Stop hiding behind your inadequacies. Look beyond yourself to all that is available to us and we can allow God to use our unique contributions. When we know who God is then we can know how God sees us. God has a name – wants a relationship with you; See this in Genesis when dealing with AdamExodus 4:1-4 Then Moses said, "What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say, 'The LORD has not appeared to you.'" The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" And he said, "A staff." Then He said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. But the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand and grasp it by its tail"-so he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand-Moses only thought about all that could go wrong. God doesn't ask us to go where He will not give us what we need! Will we give Him what we have? This staff represented his identity – who was and who he was not. For all Moses knew, God was telling him to get rid of his rod. Staff is his identity. He is a shepherd. Now he might never see it again. He is asked to give what is his to God. Moses must have remembered a time when his hands held a scepter instead.God knew what Moses had in his hand. God was not asking for information. God was asking for obedience. God was asking Moses to consider what he holds. In Moses' life, the thing he held onto had a hold on his identity! But when we know who God is then we can know how God sees us. This stick reminded Moses, “You are nothing but a shepherd keeping another man's flock!Staff was used by God in so many ways: God took that insignificant stick and worked wonders with it. It was used to confront the Egyptian magicians It was used to bring about many of the plagues: turn the waters of Egypt to blood plague of frogs plague of lice plague of thunder and hail call and east wind that blew in the plague of locusts It was used to part the Red Sea It was used to drowning Pharaoh and his army It was used to for victory against the AmalekitesExodus 4:17, Exodus 4:20 You shall take in your hand this staff, with which you shall perform the signs."So Moses took his wife and his sons and mounted them on a donkey, and returned to the land of Egypt. Moses also took the staff of God in his hand. When we know who God is then we can know how God sees us. How does He see you?Isaiah 49:16 "Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.1 Peter 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.John 15:16 You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.2 Corinthians 5:17-19 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.Colossians 3:3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.Give Online Thank you for joining us tonight. Likkutei Torah Bamidbar Maamar Vayedaber #2: Memale Kal Almin: G-d as the Core of My Identity
Everyone loves to claim Philippians 4:13, "I can do All things". We see it quoted on Facebook, Twitter feeds, we sing about it, memorize it, even claim it as a Biblical promise. The only problem is that before you can attempt the "I can" you must claim the "I am" (small letters). So many of the Biblical promises and principles that Paul lays out throughout all of his letters are based on the premise that you can not achieve them in your own strength. We can try, and many of us do, only to grow frustrated and fall away. To achieve the prescriptive sections of Paul's letters (where he gives us some encouragement on how to apply God's word to our lives) we must realize that it will take the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through us. That can only happen when we begin to see ourselves the way God has now recreated us to be as new creations. Join us as we continue our study in Ephesians and discover a bridge that allows principle to become practice. From Ephesians 4:1-3
