Jessica Vosk is a Broadway powerhouse, beloved for her unforgettable roles as Elphaba in Wicked, Jenna in Waitress, and now starring in the critically acclaimed Hell’s Kitchen. But before gracing center stage, Jessica’s path took a very different turn — one that led her to a high-powered career on Wall Street. In this episode, Jessica shares the remarkable story of how she went from crunching numbers in finance to chasing her long-held dream of performing on Broadway. Her pivot wasn’t instant — it took years of persistence, odd jobs, missed opportunities, and unshakable belief. And for the first time publicly, Jessica opens up about one of the most difficult chapters in her life: her struggle with alcohol and the life-changing decision to go to rehab. In this production, she was in the ensemble and understudied the roles of Wendla and Ilse. Her Broadway debut, was in the very iconic, Les Miserables where she starred as Cosette along side Brennyn Lark (featured in earlier this season). Prior to this engagement, she also toured the country in the ensemble for the 25th anniversary national tour. Next stop in the world of Benko's career was sharing her Jewish heritage in the Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof. In this show, she was in the ensemble and understudied Hodel and Chava. This production included Broadway legend, Danny Burstein, rising superstar, Jessica Vosk and Season 1 podcast guest, Dee Roscioli. Now, fans can catch her every Thursday night (or standing by) in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl where she is playing Fanny Brice. Benko was the original stand by for the lead role which was originated by Beanie Feldstein and co starred Ramin Karimloo and Jane Lynch. This past summer she got the chance to play Brice full time on Broadway before actress, Lea Michele came into the role, and Benko now plays the role every Thursday evening and on nights that Michele calls out. Benko is truly a wonderful addition to the musical theater business and she truly is....... the Greatest Star (see what I did there?!) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jayme-starr/support

Nothing brings people together more than music and performing; Michael Mott got the best of both worlds as he prepares for his second annual holiday show, "Michael Mott & Friends,” happening in December, along with the release of a brand new single performed by the incomparable Jessica Vosk. Michael was also a professional actor for seven years and while he was grateful for all the work, he realized he was never fully happy. This led him to apply to the prestigious BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, which subsequently changed his life.. Aside from acting, he's also a successful composer and has always been passionate about music. He talks about finding his own style, writing for another person, his issues with the current things on Broadway, the craft that goes into making a musical theatre song, and the indescribable feeling and comfort music brings him that he wants to give back to listeners. A decade later, amongst all his writing and composing success, he even finds himself accepting roles again.  Michael Mott is an award-winning composer, lyricist, songwriter and vocal producer who's also recognized internationally for his talent. He graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Musical Theatre Performance and is currently living and working in New York. Michael had a successful acting career in the late 2000s, performing in many Off-Broadway, regional and national touring shows, including "Milk and Honey", "I'd Rather Be Right", "Kiss Me, Kate", "Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?", "9 to 5", "A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline", and "Miracle on 34th Street". In 2012, he decided to pursue writing and was accepted into the prestigious BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writer's Workshop. Since then, Michael has written numerous original musicals, including "In The Light", "A Faustian Tale" (book by Nathan Wright and Justin Silvestri), "The Fairy's Tale" (book by Gretchen Suárez-Peña), "Mob Wife", "A Mafia Comedy" (book by Corey Skaggs) and "Riding Out The Storm" (book & lyrics by Christine Toy Johnson). He was also commissioned to write the music and lyrics to "Lucifer". Apart from writing music, Michael is also known for his recording studio works which include the LPs "Where The Sky Ends", "In The Light, A Faustian Tale", which debuted at #8 on the Billboard Musical Theatre charts, and "Abandoned Heart". His EPs include "The Only One", "Where The Sky Ends: The Dance Remixes" and "Gone: The Remixes" while his singles include "Christmas, Will You Stay?" (feat. Laura Osnes), "The Impossible" (feat. Matt Bloyd), "Fly High" (feat. Emma Howard). He has written original award-winning material for NYC's The Boy Band Project, including "Get Behind My Love" and "Jingle My Bells" which won Best Original Song at the 2020 Broadway World Cabaret World Award. He will be releasing a new song with Jessica Vosk on December 2nd, 2022, and having his second annual holiday show, "Michael Mott & Friends" at The Green Room 42 in NYC on December 3rd, 2022. “You have to choose yourself and other people will choose you.” – Robbie Rozelle on what he learned from the late Jan Maxwell.  There's a lot of musical theatre references in this episode, folks. Proceed with caution!  Robbie Rozelle is a beloved performer, director, writer, graphic designer, and record producer who is responsible for some of the funniest and touching moments in the cabaret space of recent. Rozelle does shows all over the city… even across the pond in London. So how does he dominate the cabaret and concert scene?  “For me, I am very much a self starter. If I want to do something, I sort of will it into existence. A lot of that is a lot of cold emails. There are so many cold emails that I'll send out, 'Hi, I am beloved, fully ignored, cabaret sensation, Robbie Rozelle.' I'll send the album and I'll say, here's the pitch. 9 times out of 10, I'll never get an email back.” But don't worry, Robbie's concerts sell out in 26 minutes. That isn't an exaggeration. How does he do it? How does he sell his shows? If you're interested in producing your own cabaret and concert, this episode is loaded with goodies to help you. We also chat about social media helping or hindering the industry, pushing through performances even during a crumbling political environment, understanding that what we bring to the table in the industry is allowed to be specific, and the difference between a Renaissance person and the multi-hyphenate.  Robbie infiltrates the industry in such an interesting way, He has also directed and written or co-written sold-out cabaret shows for Tony Award nominee Melissa Errico (Amour), Tony nominee Kate Baldwin (Finian's Rainbow), Elena Shaddow (The Visit), Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), Mauricio Martínez (On Your Feet), Nathan Salstone (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Mrs. Kasha Davis, and frequent collaborator Jessica Vosk (15th Anniversary Elphaba in Wicked). In 2017, he sold out Feinstein's/54 Below twice with his debut cabaret solo act, "Songs From Inside My Locker", which was nominated for a BroadwayWorld Cabaret Award (in addition to nominations for Best Director). He returned to Feinstein's/54 Below in 2018 to headline Pride weekend with his new show "Bustin' Out", selling out and earning rave reviews. He recorded his debut solo album of “Songs From Inside My Locker” live in front of two sold-out audiences in 2019; the album was released to rave reviews in June 2020. He also created and hosted “Tuesdays at 54… with Robbie Rozelle!,” which ran for seven months at Feinstein's/54 Below in 2019-2020. Robbie is a Grammy voting member, and appears on the concert cast recording of Mia Moravis' Session Girls. For three years, Robbie served as the graphic designer and creative director for Playbill, culminating in the design of the branding of #PlaybillPride, a 30-day initiative of the LGBT movement in the theatre that included a redesign of their historic logo for the month of June 2014, which continues each June to this day. He currently serves as the A&R Director and in-house designer for Grammy-winning record label Broadway Records, where he designed the iconic "What the World Needs Now is Love" in response to Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. He also runs Ghostlight Design. When not designing, he can usually be found tweeting jokes and random musings at @divarobbie. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

From Wall Street to Wicked. Broadway star Jessica Vosk has one of the craziest stories out there, showing the world that it's never too late to follow your dream. Wicked, Fiddler on the Roof, The Bridges of Madison County, and Finding Neverland to name a few. Jessica Vosk is hilarious and insightful and we are thrilled that she took the time to chat with us. We recorded this on inauguration day so we recap all the good of January 20th. Gaga's choice of key, Garth Brooks phrasing, J-Lo being SO warmed up. We recap one of the best days EVER. This week we talk with Jessica about starting off a career in finance with a padded 401k and jumping ship to be Elphaba. Do you know the story about Greta Garbo at sitting at the soda fountain?? That was Jessica Vosk singing at Bridland on Monday night's with Jim Caruso. She then met Alex Gemignani and the rest was history. Well.. not really... it took a long time and a lot of work, but Jessica made it to Broadway and she's been rocking ever since. Dan and her are now real estate agents as well, so if you're looking for homes in Jersey or Westchester... be sure to give these belters a call. Learn more about your ad choices.
