In their third episode, Paul Louis Lessard reflects on their one year anniversary playing King George III on Hamilton's Philip Tour. Booking the show was a surreal experience, but Paul is having the time of his life and has never felt more beautiful than when he's wearing those *perfectly tailored* KG3 costumes. Paul also opens up about the unnecessary shame around vocal injuries and explains that has "vocal athletes", acknowledging issues and taking care of your voice is all part of the gig. Plus, while answering questions from the Patreon Peeps, Paul discusses the value of barbershop quartets, his time making Rent quizzes online in high school (hi Adam Pascal and Daphne Rubin-Vega!), how his King George channels the Queen of Genovia, and why he's a synth pop fan for life. In the heart of Lancaster, a cultural renaissance is underway, thanks to the visionary leadership of Mitch Nugent. A luminary in the world of professional theatre, Nugent has dedicated his life to curating extraordinary experiences that enrich lives through vibrant cultural encounters. His illustrious career, marked by directing, performing, and producing for audiences exceeding 4 million, has taken a new dimension with the establishment of Prima, a non-profit organization co-founded by Mitch and his wife Diana in 2010. Prima, initially a nomadic troupe, has evolved into a thriving institution with its own home as of 2018. What sets Mitch apart is not just his theatrical prowess but his commitment to transforming the cultural landscape of Lancaster. In a remarkable move, he spearheaded a multi-million dollar capital campaign that redefined the city's cultural narrative, establishing a venue that aspires to be the epitome of excitement and welcome within the region. One of the striking aspects of Prima's success is the demographics of its audience. With an average attendee age of 45, Prima has managed to attract a crowd that is about 20 years younger than the national average. This achievement speaks volumes about Mitch's forward-thinking approach, which embraces diversity and nurtures emerging talent. Prima has become a beacon of inclusivity, drawing in audiences with its dynamic programming that transcends generational boundaries. Mitch's strategic vision is further exemplified by Prima's impressive roster of performers. The organization has welcomed esteemed Broadway artists such as Stephen Schwartz, Billy Porter, Shoshana Bean, Adam Pascal, and Alice Ripley. These luminaries, under Mitch's guidance, have graced Lancaster with unforgettable performances, adding to the city's cultural richness. The excitement doesn't end there. Mitch Nugent is set to captivate audiences once again with Prima's upcoming act, "Off The Yellow Brick Road," premiering in February. This world-premiere theatrical experience invites the audience to step into Dorothy's world as she embarks on a thrilling new adventure. What sets this production apart is its modern pop concert makeover of the timeless Oz tale, featuring contemporary songs from the past few decades. Mitch's ability to blend tradition with innovation is evident in this ambitious project, promising an unforgettable experience for attendees. Mitch Nugent's transformative impact on Lancaster's cultural scene is undeniable. Through Prima, he has not only provided a home for the arts but has also created a space that transcends age and welcomes diversity. As Mitch joins us on The Spark today to discuss "Off The Yellow Brick Road," it's evident that his commitment to curating extraordinary experiences continues to shape the cultural landscape of Lancaster, leaving an indelible mark on the city's artistic legacy.Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Fifty Key Stage Musicals: The Podcast

RENT COMPOSER: Jonathan Larson LYRICIST: Jonathan Larson BOOK: Jonathan Larson SOURCE: La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini (1896) DIRECTOR: Michael Greif CHOREOGRAPHER: Marlies Yearby PRINCIPLE CAST: Adam Pascal (Roger), Anthony Rapp (Mark), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Mimi) OPENING DATE: Apr 29, 1996 CLOSING DATE: Sep 07, 2008 PERFORMANCES: 5,123 SYNOPSIS: Mark and Roger are two bohemian artists living in New York's lower East Side at the height of the AIDS epidemic. Mark is a documentary filmmaker and Roger is an HIV positive songwriter. When Roger meets Mimi, a drug addict, he falls madly in love but is unsure if he should tell her of his impending mortality.   Composer Jonathon Larson set out to bring musical theatre to a new generation with Rent, a rock opera based on Puccini's La Boheme and set in Lower Manhattan's East Village. The musical helped break taboos and stigma around queerness, trans liberation, and AIDs. Jordan Dragutsky chronicles Larson's quest for giving his generation a voice that sounded like the popular music of the time with the sophistication of musical theatre composition, the advocacy of Rent by New York Theatre Works, the unique casting and design process that was helmed by director Michael Greif, and how the unexpected death of Larson catapulted Rent, and its stars, to global popularity.  Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jordan Dragutsky grew up surrounded by the entertainment industry and relocated to New York in 2010 after graduating from UCIrvine (BA Drama/Minor Queer Studies). Jordan has assisted in press offices and production/merchandising for over 30 Broadway, Off-Broadway, dance, and touring productions including: Harry Potter & The Cursed Child, Hair, Wicked, and Book of Mormon. He joined the administrative staff at the New York Film Academy in 2012, and from 2015-2020 he served as Senior Dept. Coordinator for the Musical Theatre department. Jordan is a proud member of SAG/AFTRA with experience working on over 100 TV/Film sets. Here's a brief summary of the book courtesy of the author/publisher: "Set in New York City's gritty East Village, the revolutionary rock opera RENT tells the story of a group of bohemians struggling to live and pay their rent. 'Measuring their lives in love,' these starving artists strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness, and the AIDS epidemic. RENT is based on Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning musical, one of the longest-running shows on Broadway. The raw and riveting musical stars Rosario Dawson, Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, and Tracie Thoms and is directed by Chris Columbus." This week's "Musings of Tired Black Social Worker" segment topic is the activist to white spouse pipeline (thoughts on interracial dating). Get more at podsematary.com! Read our afterthoughts for this episode at https://twitter.com/PodSematary/status/1524976256625758208 It's Friday the 13th on Pod Sematary! Time for the fifth entry in both the Friday and Scream franchises! This week, Chris & Kelsey hallucinate famous killers and, by the end, become the killers themselves. The Classic Film: Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) "Still haunted by his past, Tommy Jarvis, who, as a child, killed Jason Voorhees, is sent to a secluded halfway house in the countryside, where the killing of a young man triggers a brutal series of murders in the area” (IMDb.com). The franchise has abandoned even Jason Voorhees in favor of a new killer and a plethora of f-bombs and tits, but we'll be damned if it's not still a little entertaining. The Modern Film: Scream (2022) "25 years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past” (IMDb.com). The self-referential style of Scream has now folded in on itself and even the meta is meta. The fifth installment hasn't brought the franchise to ruin without Wes Craven—in fact, there's a lot to like here—but the execution leaves much to be desired. We are back!!! Season Two, bitches! Here we go! We are starting season two with someone I have been a fan of since I was in 5th grade! The iconic Adam Pascal! We all know Adam for his Tony nominated performance as Roger in the original cast of RENT, and the fact that he reprised that roll in the blockbuster movie adaptation, but did you know that Adam Pascal made a guest appearance on the cult webseries "Submissions Only" singing a song called "We Should F*** Other People". We loved Adam in the movie School of Rock, and of course we know him for originating the roll of Radames in the Broadway smash AIDA, but did you know that Aida didn't even get a nomination for Best Musical??? Did you know that Adam Pascal could eat a bagel with tuna every day of his life and be totally happy doing so??? I bet you didn't know that he never even intended to become a musical theatre performer before landing the roll of Roger in Rent, or that he has a very special upcoming streamed concert event called ADAM PASCAL SO FAR... start August 17th, 2021! Well we discuss all of this and a whole lot more on this episode of Now We're Talking!
