His impressive resume includes The Walking Dead (he showran season 3), and Damien which he also created. But even Glen is the first to admit that there is a certain amount of luck that comes with getting the coveted greenlight. Navigating producers, networks, and the studio can be a complicated game of chess, but today, Glen breaks it all down with a refreshing amount of candor.

Beacon 23 Season 2 Episode 6 "Luan Casca". Image by MGM+. Copyright 2024. This week on 3 Hosts in a Beacon, we delve into Beacon 23 Season 2, Episode 6, titled "Luan Casca." This intriguing episode serves as a flashback to the past of Season 1's main protagonist, Aster Calyx, offering viewers a deeper understanding of her complex character. In "Luan Casca," we witness a young Aster executing a deceitful yet daring plan. She convinces Jocko, the keeper of Beacon 90, that she is his rightful replacement. However, her true intentions are far from straightforward. Aster is actually a covert operative for a resistance group, tasked with a critical mission: to redirect food shipments to the colonies most in need. As the episode unfolds, Aster uncovers a shocking secret. Jocko has been hiding a "patient" whom he's been studying for the mysterious QTA. This discovery adds layers to the narrative, raising questions about Jocko's honesty and the far-reaching ethical implications of his research. But what do the hosts make of it, you ask? Throughout the podcast, we explore how this episode sheds light on Aster's motivations and her past actions. We discuss the significance of her discovery and what it might mean for her character development. The episode's cut-to-black ending leaves us speculating on the consequences of her actions and the potential fallout in future episodes. Join Paul, Inez, and Gabby as they unpack the dramatic twists and turns of "Luan Casca," offering insights and theories about the darker corners of Beacon 23. This episode not only enriches our understanding of Aster but also sets the stage for thrilling developments in the series. Back to the rewatch! This is the first ep with Glen Mazzara as showrunner, and I remember being worried whether the show would still be good after Darabont left, and then being relieved that it was great. The man in black fled across the desert, and the Losers followed. In 2019, MRC and executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara attempted a pivot to the small screen with a more faithful reimagining of King's work. By dialing back to the origins of the series (see: 1997's prequel novel Wizard and Glass), Mazzara envisioned a multi-season arc for Amazon and director Stephen Sommers shot the pilot in Croatia. Sadly, the streaming giant passed on the series in early 2020, leaving the 60-minute pilot in limbo. Fans were in turmoil. Recently, however, The Losers' Club was fortunate enough to screen the pilot, and gathered together to palaver over what they saw.Bonus: The Losers also spoke to Mazarra himself, who regaled them with insightful behind-the-scenes anecdotes and piles of notes for what could have been future episodes and seasons. Without spoiling anything, Mazarra truly remembered the face of his father, and the entire saga more or less amounts to a painful What If? in King's Dominion. While Black Panther is smashing the box office and previously held assumptions in Hollywood, there is still so much more to dismantle, including poor management throughout the entertainment industry. We talk about how a lack of proper management has held Hollywood back and the management changes, as proposed by showrunner Glen Mazzara, might improve the business. Finally… working through illness. Welcome to Punch Drunk TV. We're a podcast that drinks and yells about television. Do you remember us? It's been a while ... three weeks to be exact. And holy crap so much has happened in the 21 days we've been on hiatus! There was Comic-Con and the TCA Summer Tour but now Jack and Aaron are back, so let's just get into it, shall we? NEWS: Disney will pull all their movies from Netflix at the end of 2018. But hey, they’ll be creating their own stand-alone streaming service that will launch in 2019. After 21 years, Jon Stewart will be starring in his first stand-up special on HBO. YouTube has announced a Karate Kid sequel series, titled "Cobra Kai," starring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, reprising their roles in a new half hour comedy. It’ll follow Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence as they manage battling dojos. Former "Walking Dead" showrunner Glen Mazzara will be bringing "The Dark Tower" TV series to the small-screen. It’ll apparently follow the story of the books, which the movie did not do. Netflix has just acquired the rights to Mark Millar’s Millarworld, aka his entire line of comics which includes the likes of "Kick-Ass," "Wanted" and "Kingsman." And others Jack should talk about. Netflix is partnering with Joel and Ethan Coen for an original Western anthology series called "The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs." Told in the Coens’ signature sardonic style, each episode of the series will focus on a different tale of the American West. The Coens will write and direct all six episodes, which will star "O Brother, Where Art Thou’s" Tim Blake Nelson as the eponymous Buster Scruggs, along with “many others.” David Letterman is teaming up with Netflix for a six-episode series of “in-depth conversations with extraordinary people, and in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humor.” About the show, Letterman says, “I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix. Here’s what I have learned: if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely.” Lifetime has renewed "UnREAL" for a fourth season, keeping the show on the network through to 2019 Fox has a live musical version of "A Christmas Story" coming in December. It’ll star Maya Rudolph as Mrs. Parker, Ralphie and Randy’s mother. ABC asked Sean Spicer to join the cast of "Dancing with the Stars." Sean Spicer said no. Vin Diesel is out to reboot "Miami Vice" for NBC. According to AV Club, the reboot “will reflect today’s sexy police officers, as well as the many changes the past 27 years have seen in cocaine” MTV is rebooting TRL, aka "Total Request Live," and will premiere on October 2. It’ll be shot at the network’s iconic Times Square studio, which has been expanded to 8,700 square feet to allow for bigger audiences and simultaneous productions that will cater to its new accompanying digital segments. Jack’s favorite show, "The Middle," will end after its upcoming ninth season Hulu is adding the classic TGIF lineup to its service. That’s every single episode of "Full House," "Family Matters," "Step By Step," "Perfect Strangers" and "Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper." Amazon has announced that Prime subscribers can now enjoy their own batch of old ‘80s and ‘90s sitcoms. "Roseanne," "3rd Rock From The Sun," "A Different World," "Grace Under Fire," "Cybill" and "Grounded For Life" will hit the service in August. BBC is working with former "British Baking Show" host, Mary Berry, on a new food competition series. It’ll tentatively be titled "Britain’s Best Cook" and have Berry branching out from the baking realm into the “wider world of food.” AARON’S LOSERS "Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later," "The Lowe Files" and "Friends from College"JACK’S LOSERS: "The Lowe Files" and "Hooten and the Lady" AARON’S FENCERS: "The Strain" and "Mr. Mercedes"JACK’S FENCERS: "Comrade Detective," "The Last Shot" and "Game of Thrones" AARON’S WINNERS: "World of Dance," "Icarus," "What Would Diplo Do," "Room 104," "Get Shorty," "Rick and Morty," "Insecure," "Twin Peaks" and "Ozark"JACK’S WINNERS "Funny How?," "Ozark," "Room 104," "Voltron" and "Get Shorty" Be sure to subscribe on iTunes and comment! We knew this. But now Jennifer Connelly has joined the cast and there’s nothing else we need to know. “Cowboy Bebop” is coming to TV in the form of an American live action series. It’s from Tomorrow Studios, the same production company behind developing “Snowpiercer” and “Let the Right One In” for TV ABC Freeform is making an American version of “Misfits” FOX may have canceled Pitch, but it’s still into Mark Paul Gosselaar. The network has greenlit a new vampire series titled “The Passage” and Gosselaar will play a vampire-hunting FBI agent. FOX has canceled “24: Legacy” but is developing more stories in the “24” universe Glen Mazzara is developing a “Sin City” TV series for TV, with former “Sleepy Hollow”  director Len Wiseman on board. Apparently it’ll be an entirely new story with new characters Mazarra is writing. No network attached yet but interest is “high.” Cue Frank Miller rage… now! Brendan Fraser will play an eccentric private investigator named James Fletcher Chace in Danny Boyle’s FX series “Trust,” which will tell the tale of the kidnapping and ransom of J. Paul Getty. Brendan Fraser isn’t going anywhere. Rick Moranis is coming out of acting retirement… kindof. He’ll reunite with his SCTV cast in Second City Toronto for a charity benefit called “Take Off, Eh!” According to a press release, performances will include Moranis and Thomas’ reprisal of their iconic SCTV characters Bob and Doug McKenzie, whose “Great White North” sketches and subsequent film, Strange Brew became cult favorites in the 1980s. It's the season 2 wrap up show! Jim, Jordan, and Russ talk about the season as a whole, Glen Mazzara taking over for Frank Darabont, Greg Nicotero's well deserved elevation, read some emails, and even throw in a little talk about AMC's Comic Book Men. Also tease a pretty big announcement for a future show (that'll show Brad and John to leave the inmates in charge of the asylum).
