Introducing Scott Davies. He's the founder of Hilltop Honey, the 2nd largest honey brand in the UK with a turnover of £44mn selling over 13,000 tonnes of honey a year, the equivalent of 1000 double-decker buses. And while honey sales have been relatively stagnant for the last few years, Hilltop Honey has bucked the trend growing at an outstanding 22% a year. It's impressive. Scott grew up in a pretty low income family in the middle of Wales, got pretty average GCSEs, didn't go to university and only started the businesses because he slipped a disk down the coal yard. Aged 23 with a 5k overdraft, Scott was faced with a choice: start a dog walking business, sell sports equipment on Amazon or start his own honey brand. Lucky for us he did the latter, starting Hilltop Honey back in 2011 living with mum and dad, who now lend a hand in the factory. Look up ‘grit' means in the dictionary you'll find a picture of Scott there. He didn't pay himself for the first 3 years. They were on their last £400 when Holland & Barrett took a chance on the brand. And they've never taken on any investment. Now 13 years on, he has a market share of 12%, is expanding to the states and pays 130 people's mortgages every month. In this episode we talk about what resilience means, the power of being no.2 and the highs and lows along the road. Enjoy

Imagine shopping in two years from now for anything from your favourite nut milk to face cleanser and struggling to see products on the shelves housed in plastic packaging. Futuristic perhaps, but it may arrive in a store near you sooner than you think if pioneering entrepreneur Jo Chidley, the founder of sustainable, natural personal care brand Beauty Kitchen, has her way. Jo's latest venture ReRe, an amibitious return, refill, repeat scheme, is tackling the seemingly impossible by championing a far-reaching reuse revolution. Jo and co-founder Stuart Chidley set up ReRe not only to implement cradle-to-cradle design into Beauty Kitchen's own products, but also as the world's first closed-loop solution for packaging through its ground-breaking Re programme and refill stations. Already counting some of the UK's biggest retailers like Asda, Marks & Spencer and Holland & Barrett as participating partners, ReRe is on a mission to change the way brands create packaging and bottle goods, how retailers sell almost anything, and how consumers shop. Join Formula Botanica CEO and podcast host Lorraine Dallmeier as she interviews Jo Chidley, a circular economy expert, chemist, herbal botanist, and co-founder of Beauty Kitchen, the highest scoring B Corp in the UK beauty industry. This episode shows just how the power of the collective – manufacturers, retailers and consumers – can drive a truly circular economy in packaging.

A conversation with journalist and author Gabrielle Jackson about her new book Pain and Prejudice: A Call To Arms for Women and their Bodies Having suffered from the chronic pain condition, endometriosis for 14 years, Gabrielle started to wonder why we – and her doctors – still knew so little about it. This lead her into an in-depth investigation into the topic which concluded that medicine systematically ignores or sidelines women – who are by far the most common sufferers of chronic pain conditions, and the worrying realisation that “almost everything we know about human biology comes from the study of men”. On the podcast, Gabrielle talks about her own experience and discoveries – and why she is calling women to arms. How to survive Christmas without getting a divorce (AND how to get a good divorce if you don’t) The first Monday in January when we’re back to work after Christmas is famously known as ‘Divorce Day’ because it traditionally sees us make a record number of enquires with divorce lawyers. This episode looks at how to Christmas-proof your relationship. Seasonal stresses can lead to more arguments with your partner than usual, so how can we try to avoid that this year? If things do regrettably get to a point where you’re considering a divorce, how can this be done with kindness? And if you’re facing your first Christmas alone post-divorce, how can you ‘paint this brighter’? Our guest, The Divorce Coach Sara Davison, is the best-selling author of two self-help books including Uncoupling: How to survive and thrive after break-up and divorce. She shares her many years of experience with Ellie, offering advice on how to deal with Christmas arguments and pressure, what to think about if you’re thinking about divorce, and how to enjoy Christmas if you’re newly single. You can find out more about Sara at saradavison.com And find out more about having a positive Christmas in the latest copy of Healthy magazine from your local Holland & Barrett or at selected supermarkets and newsstands across the UK, or at healthy-magazine.co.uk.

The ketogenic diet has increasingly become a popular choice for athletes and weight loss, Keto is a very low carbohydrate and high-fat diet which changes the metabolism in the body from burning glucose for energy to burning fat for energy. It’s currently a recognised treatment for intractable (drug-resistant) epilepsy, Glut 1 Deficiency and Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Deficiency. Increasingly the diet is being looked at in other neuro-metabolic conditions as well as Brain Cancer. We speak to Emma Williams MBE – Founder/Trustee and CEO of Matthews Friends, a charity specialising in growing the awareness and growth of a medical ketogenic diet. Emma’s son Matthew started having seizures at the age of 9 months. When Matthew was just 2 years old Emma found out about the Ketogenic Diet but when she asked Matthew’s neurologist to try the diet she was told that it didn’t work, it was disgusting and medication was the best option. Only when Matthew was 7 years old did she finally get the chance to get Matthew onto the diet thanks to the trial that Professor Helen Cross was carrying out at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Within 2 weeks of starting the diet Matthew’s seizures had reduced by 90% and within 8 months he was off all medication. Emma founded the charity Matthew’s Friends in 2004 to share her experiences with others, provide support and promote the use of the ketogenic diet for those suffering from intractable epilepsy. 2013 saw her awarded an MBE from Her Majesty the Queen for her services to Children with Epilepsy. Duncan Goose speaks to Tabi Jayne about creating a water brand that gives away all its profits to water projects. Duncan shares the motivation behind creating a brand that gives away its profits to fund projects to help people gain access to clean water, the challenges he has faced making a bottled water company environmentally friendly and the biggest challenges in creating The One Brand. Duncan also discusses the challenges humanity is currently facing in terms of access to clean water. Duncan Goose is Founder and CEO of Global Ethics Limited, The One Foundation and One Drinks – the UK’s leading ethical drinks brand that donates it profit to clean water projects. In 1998 Duncan lived through Hurricane Mitch, which killed 20,000 people and caused billions of dollars' worth of damage. Clean water became a hugely valuable commodity and at one point he had to smuggle a bottle of water – given to him by an American military relief flight – out of a compound. When he came home he went back into the marketing industry, but always wondered what he could do to help people less fortunate. A few years later that idea became One Water; a bottled water brand that gives away its profit to help people gain access to clean water. Driven by his passion for helping those without clean drinking water and committed to making changes to the WASH sector, Duncan is now building on the expertise acquired over the past decade to venture into new areas of international development - in addition to overseeing the daily running of One. This includes launching the Global Investment Fund for Water, a global partnership with the bottled water sector to end water poverty by using a one cent per litre contribution to create a catalytic investment fund for water and sanitation. Duncan has celebrated numerous milestones during One’s twelve-year history, including a Great Briton Award, European Entrepreneur of the Year Award, UK Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Beacon Fellowship award and an International ‘Hero’ Award in recognition of his role and continuing efforts to bring clean water to the 663 million people without access to it. But his proudest remains celebrating raising over £15 million for water projects, changing the lives of over 3.2 million people. One’s aim is to raise £20 million for water projects by 2020 and you can help by picking up a bottle of One Water, Juiced Water, Origins or Gin at Starbucks, Holland & Barrett, UK airports at World Duty Free and Amazon.co.uk – because when you drink One, the world drinks too.
