Tatra 87 (1936) 4. Citroën DS (1955) 5. Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz (1959) 6. Chevrolet Corvair (1959) 7. Saab 96 (1960) 8. Plymouth Road Runner Superbird (1970) 21. De Tomaso Pantera (1971) 22. Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (1972) 23. AMC Pacer (1975) 24. Renault 5 Turbo (1980) 25. Alfa Romeo Giulietta (1981) 26.

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 9, 2024 14:50

Plymouth Superbird (1970).

Honda's Civic Type R was a forbidden fruit among Honda fans and collectors until it was formally added to the U.S. Honda lineup with the introduction of the 2017 Civic Type R. This 10th-generation Civic was a watershed moment for fans, but some didn't appreciate some styling decisions. Well, with the 11th-generation Civic, Honda brought back the Type R with the major styling change that came with the next-generation car. The latest Civic Type R carries over a lot of the major hardware from the previous car. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 that sends 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed manual transmission. This '23 Civic Type R also shares the interior updates that came with a new generation but adds red bucket seats for the driver and front passenger. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren puts the '23 Civic Type R through its paces. Wren takes you on a guided tour of the Civic Type R and highlights some of his favorite features on a guided tour. Wren also takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to the conversation, Wren chats with Autoweek's Emmet White about the new Civic Type R, the experience of driving it, and how it stacks up against its Acura Integra Type S counterpart. Putting 2023 Honda Civic Type R to Test in Maine

The Honda Civic Type R is the highest-performance version of one of the most popular cars in the United States. The all-new version continues a proud legacy as the most powerful model in the Type R's 30-year history. The car is based on the 11th generation Civic Hatchback, the 2023 Type R is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that whirs out 315 horsepower. Among its other claims to fame, it is the most powerful Honda-branded vehicle ever offered in the Unites States. The engine is matched to a six-speed manual transmission that Honda has upgraded for the new application. As co-host ChrisTeague found during his week-long test of the Type R near his Maine home, the manual is the perfect companion for the high-output engine. The big question is how will the Civic Type R accommodate Teague's lanky 6-foot tall frame? In the other road test this week, Host Jack Nerad bathed in the lap of luxury at the wheel of the 2023 Genesis GV80. The imposing luxury SUV has incredible driveway presence, and its exterior good looks are matched by one of the most luxurious interiors in its class. Under the hood, the GV80 features the choice of a 300-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a 375-horsepower 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Our test car was equipped with the more powerful of the two engine choices. A report in The Wall Street Journal says Tesla is in talks to build a production plant in, of all places, Saudi Arabia. But Elon Musk says the report is categorically false. Details coming up. The United States has passed the “tipping point” for electric vehicle adoption, but there's just one problem — American consumers don't seem to have gotten the message. We'll have more on that. And — Holy AI — Toyota says it is teaching its robots new tricks that are startlingly human. Should we be concerned? And if the UAW strike continues, could it be good for General Motors? We'll tell you why some think so in this episode. For those of you seeking lower car insurance rates, our special guest this week is Rory Joyce, the head of insurance at Credit Karma. Host Jack Nerad sat down with him to discuss the Karma Drive program that could save you money while making you a better driver. We have an unusual road test for you in this week's episode of America on the Road. Instead of testing a car provided to us by one of the car manufacturers, Co-Host Chris Teague will road test a car he recently purchased, a 2023 Volkswagen Golf R. Chris considered two other great performance cars before he decided on the Golf R — the Toyota GR Corolla and the Honda Civic Type R. He'll tell us why he settled on the Golf R and how it's been working out for him so far. In our other road test this week, Host Jack Nerad is going big and going home. His road test vehicle is the Ram 2500 heavy-duty pickup. Available with two terrific engines, including a Cummins turbodiesel with immense amounts of torque, the Ram 2500 is the perfect upscale toy hauler. It's not cheap, but it's fitted out like a luxury SUV. Among its many niceties is one of the best infotainment systems on the planet. Jack will tell you all about his time at home with it in his detailed report. It's Monterey Car Week, and we'll give you a report on some of the important news coming from that event. BMW is showing a very interesting vehicle that could have big ramifications aboutits future. Audi is saying goodbye to an old friend with laps at Laguna Seca, and we'll have news on Audi's entry into F1 racing. And Texas-based hypercar maker Hennessey  is showing off its new wares. The horsepower rating of its newest car will blow you away. What gets into your car can hurt both you and your car's engine. It's something to be very careful about. Our special guest this week is an expert on that. Daryl Benton is a vice president at Purolator, the 100-year-old auto filter brand. In this episode, we're going to talk with him about how auto filters can improve the life of your engine and improve your day-to-day life at the wheel. On this episode of the Carmudgeon Show, we discuss hot-hatches and daily drivers with automotive journalist Sam Smith. Discussion centers around the Toyota GR Hot-Hatch Twins: Jason has driven both the GR Corolla and Yaris, Sam has driven only the Corolla, and Derek only the Yaris. Which is best: Corolla or Yaris? And is either as good as the 2023 Honda Civic Type R? And is the CTR, in turn, anywhere near as good as the original Integra Type R? Sam used to own an ITR.  Unrelated, Jason used to own a W202 Mercedes C43 AMG, and Derek showed up to the studio in his new-to-him C43, which replaces his Mk7 VW GTI as his daily driver. Turns out that both Jason and Sam also have Mk7 Volkswagens (e-Golf and GTI, respectively), and so the boys discuss daily drivers.  In fact, Jason and Derek realize they've owned so many cars in common — W201 190E 2.3-16, R129 Mercedes SL, to name a few — that Jason almost accuses him of being a copycat. Meanwhile, Sam educates us on the Neue Klasse BMW (and its differences relative to the 1602 and 2002-series coupes).  Find Sam's podcast, "Driven to Fail" wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts. 2023 Acura Integra: The Integra is Back

The hotly anticipated Acura Integra is finally back on Acura's roster. Despite carrying a Honda badge in Japan, and a different name at launch, the Acura Integra made its way to the United States in 1986. Helping launch Acura in the United States, the Integra became a staple in the company's portfolio and was loved by fans that wanted a little more than the pedestrian Civic. The Integra also was one of the only ways Americans could get something similar to the Honda Civic Type R. The Integra Type R has become wildly collectible since it went away, and helped anchor Acura as an enthusiast brand. The reborn Integra doesn't have a Type R variant yet, but the Type S is expected. Instead, the '23 Integra uses the same 1.5-liter turbocharged I4 from the Civic Si. Similarly, this upscale compact makes a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT available, depending on how you want the power to get to the front wheels. On this episode of Quick Spin, associate editor Emmet White hops behind the wheel of the '23 Acura Integra and puts it through its paces. White takes you on a guided tour of the Integra and highlights its styling, features and more. Later, White takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to the show, White chats with host Wesley Wren about the Integra, what separates it from the Civic Si, and if it lives up to the hype. Closing the show, the pair breakdown what makes this new Integra special.

It's hatchback mania at the Unnamed Automotive Podcast—but these practical five-doors are more than a bit unusual. First Sami talks about the 2023 Honda Civic Type R, which has gotten a fairly substantial overhaul this year. Thanks to raised expectations from the more premium base Civic, the Type R feels more mature, yet Sami says this hasn't impacted the rowdiness of the hot hatch. After a few prodding and overly-personal questions, Benjamin and Sami decide whether the new Civic Type R is worth the $44k price tag it commands. Then Benjamin chimes in about his experience in the all-electric 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4Matic, which features a roof-hinged rear cargo area, making it a hatchback, or sportback, or notchback, or something other than a sedan. With 350 miles of range, and plenty of power, this green flagshipalso happens to look almost completely anonymous. Still, it features a ride worthy of the 'S' letter, and Benjamin goes on to note several highlights and lowlights about the many features and gadgets in this six-figure ride.
