His first car—a 1988 RX-7 GXL with an engine rebuilt by his brother—established rotary power as his mechanical baseline, making conventional piston engines feel foreign when he later switched to a BMW 525i and then Volvo C30 R-Design.Despite pursuing architecture in college and beginning his professional career in that field, Jon couldn't shake his automotive enthusiasm. The pivotal moment came when architectural colleagues expressed surprise that cars were designed at all, revealing the disconnect between his passion and profession. This realization prompted a bold move—leaving his architecture career to start at a Mazda dealership, positioning himself for an industry transition. This strategic career pivot paid off quickly. Within eight months, Jon landed a position at Mazda North America, beginning a seven-plus year journey through four different roles culminating in his current position as Launch Strategy Manager. Now orchestrating vehicle launches for the brand that first sparked his passion, Jon particularly treasures working on the MX-5 projects, including recent updates and the 35th anniversary edition - https://www.mazdausa.com/vehicles/mx-5-miata/heritageJon's story highlights how childhood influences can shape professional trajectories in unexpected ways, and how stepping back temporarily can sometimes propel you forward toward your true calling. His experience demonstrates that when it comes to career paths, sometimes the most rewarding journeys don't follow a straight line.#carsloved #everycartellsastory #automobile #automotive #podcast #carcast #everycarhasaculture #everycartellsastory #toallthecarsivelovedbefore #mazda #rx7 #zoomzoom #rotary #wankel #mazdausa #dreamjob #fc #bmw #5series #e39 #volvo #volvoC30 #C30New episodes drop every other Tuesday. In Episode 101 of the BaT Podcast, Alex sits down with multidsiciplinary racing legend Tommy Kendall to discuss the dangers of the BaT Daily Mail; an argument for the '74 Carrera as the first Southern California SUV; a fortuitous version of the classic "someone else's race car/boat/RV" story; his particularly well-timed upbringing by an enthusiastic new racer; coming up in karting and Formula Mazda; meeting compatriot Max Jones; the eye-watering costs of going racing in the early '80s; the value of a Showroom Stock education; his stewardship of the winningest IMSA car in history (with many of said wins coming with him at the wheel); a two-hour peripheral-port rotary rebuild under duress; water-cooled brake calipers; an untimely realization concerning NASCAR brakes at Willow Springs; nascent Chili Bowl plans; his move into commentatorship through no effort of his own; sage advice for anyone pushing the boundaries; a predilection for giant American land yachts, including but not limited to those masquerading as chickens; and their mutual affection for gold-flake Sanger powerboats. Ford Mustang, Ford Mustang… ¿A qué me refiero?

In episode 95 of the BaT Podcast, Alex and Zac welcome podcast newcomer and BaT stalwart, the one and only Patrick Trautfield, to join them for the latest round of The One-Year Garage. This time, it's 1984—a more difficult field on which to play than any of the trio imagined, but fertile ground nonetheless. Topics include a heretofore unknown first BaT Podcast attempt in 2017; the first-gen Toyota Camry Solara, that relatively agreeable precursor to one of the worst-looking cars ever made; much-delayed impressions from Luft 10; the shocking and completely unexpected realities of Ferrari ownership; overly generous definitions of "family hauler"; #vanagonlife; a Toyota trifecta; and a rowdy theme for the wild cards of the era. In this episo… ah, screw it. Cut to the chase: Do you know what a Mazda R26B rotary sounds like? Four rotors of fury! The littlest beer keg that could! The 700-horse shrieker from the first Japanese car to win Le Mans! BEEOWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP! Except… louder. Nastier. You hear that noise even once, it makes a bee-line for the whoopy monkey core of the human brain and lives there forever. So we got ourselves here yep a story about that. This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. This episode is our monthly deep dive into an epic moment from racing history. In this case, the time an underfunded Japanese carmaker and a strange little engine design went to France and slayed 200-mph giants. Related Trivia: Sam once track-tested a real live Mazda 787. Ross used to own Mazda RX-7. And in 2014 and 2015, Jeff was competition director for the factory-backed Mazda SpeedSource diesel prototypes in IMSA.
Calvin Wan is one of the earliest drifters in the USA, drifting his red Mazda RX-7 (FD3S) in the Bay Area of California. He is a 6 year Formula Drift veteran, driving from 2003 to 2009. Forget about the Rotary Club, this week we're all about- wait. Wait hold up. What IS the Rotary Club? I genuinely have never known. Let's google this. ...Huh... I guess it's just a community support and goodwill group? Ok. I mean that's fair. I suppose I'm in favor of that. I say this with all of the same enthusiasm that I say I suppose I'm in favor of rotary car engines. Which is why we're here today. We're talking to Greg Crick on this week's episode of the V8 Sleuth Podcast. In the first part of a three-part chat, Cricky talks about growing up just over a mile from the Longford road circuit in Tasmania, watching the F1 heroes of the day and deciding to go racing himself. He also talks about some of the wild machines he raced early in his career, from his first FJ Holden and a turbocharged XU-1 Torana, through to a speedway-inspired Mazda RX-7 sports sedan and his iconic Australian title-winning Honda Prelude. He also shares some hilarious stories (including the time he was ‘arrested' by Victoria Police's Armed Robbery Squad during Sandown 500 practice!) and his first time racing in the Bathurst 1000. He also explains his decision to turn his attention to touring car racing, plus becoming teammates with Sir Jack Brabham in winning the inaugural Targa Tasmania.

Ah the Mazda RX-7. Too strange to live, too rare to die. Adam owned an RX-7 when he was way too young to appreciate it, too dumb to fix it, and too poor to keep it for long. Ignoring that he bought one, are they any good at all? Is there a single model in the three generations that won't leave you stranded on the side of the road? All that and more on today's Best in Class.

My guest today and I met in the main restaurant of Club Med Playa Blanca during the 1996/1997 winter season. I was a Landsports G.O and he was a G.M. His first season was as an au pair in Club Med Playa Blanca in May of 1992 as a Landsports G.O. From Orange County, California, please help me welcome to My First Season, Stan Bruckheim!! Before Club Med, proud Army brat Stan actually lived in France the first six years of his life and then spent three years in Berlin. His teenage years were spent in Philadelphia and he went to college at Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and obtained a Political Science degree. After graduation he went to work in Washington, D.C., but his employer sent him West to open their California office. Stan's first experience with Club Med was as a G.M. in Martinique in 1988. While Stan was a G.M. at Playa in '92, the CDV Gregg Snyder made an offer to Stan to come back as an au pair. Stan, who was a Media Director for an Ad agency, then went to his employer to ask for a one-year leave of absence. Not only did his employer grant his request, but they also told him his job would be held for him that entire year. After Playa, Stan then drove his red, Mazda RX-7 from California to Florida (in just four days) and went to Club Med Sandpiper during the Fall of 1992 as Landsports. He then went to Club Med Cancun in the Spring of 1993 as Public Relations and finished his Club Med career in Turks & Caicos in October of 1995. If you were a G.O. in the 1990's, then you will remember the group “Carnage” that used to come to Club Med. Stan founded this group, but surprisingly, Carnage was not started at Club Med, as you will hear in this interview. When the conversation turns to Stan's season in Cancun in ‘93, we cover what the picnic sign-up was like, the night he had dinner with Steven Seagal and Kelly LeBrock and when Playboy came for the week. Stan's regular job is Advertising in Latin America & Latino Media Services, but he is also the proprietor of “Kids Rule Sports”, a quality sports cards and memorabilia store (see link below) that is his passion. **My First Season podcast has always been free to listen to and is available on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes.

What this could mean for the future of the company and environmentally friendly rotary enginesDue to a lockdown-induced lack of fresh metal we revisit some of their most memorable driving experiences, featuring: two beautiful but different locations for two different but powerful vehicles: the Ford Ranger and Hyundai i30 N, and a Jaguar that might just be the most beautiful car ever built. You can get in touch with us on Facebook, Twitter (#CGPodcast) and Instagram, and tell us what you think the most beautiful car built in the last five years is by emailing comments@carsguide.com.au
Darin: Der Wankelmotor, Mercedes-Benz C 111, NSU Ro 80, Mazda RX-7, VW K 70Auch gut hörbar: Werkstattgespräche über ein Experimentalflugzeug - Alte Schule mit Wolfgang Kalbhenn See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Si además no puedes o no quieres gastarte mucho dinero. ¿Qué viene a continuación? Bueno, ¡aún no hemos empezado! 9. Porsche Boxster 986 (1996). Y pude comprobarlo.

When is weird too weird? When is weird not enough? That's what Sami attempts to discover when comparing the 2018 Kia Soul crossover to the 2018 Toyota CH-R. Benjamin jumps in with his strangely authoritative opinions on why, exactly, a whole bunch of other strange-looking SUVs failed where the Soul has succeeded. He then talks about his time driving the twin-turbo rotary-powered FD Mazda RX-7 from the Mazda classic collection, while Sami quietly seethes with jealousy.

Monday 5th March 2018. Coming up on the show today, Europe is flush with ultra fast chargers and Nissan win with range extenders, but first: ELECTRIC HYPERCARS THE FINAL FRONTIER On the podcast recently we were talking about supercar maker Koenigsegg and how the founder of the company was thinking about how to electrify their cars, following his experience of how impressive the instant torque of an electric motor is. And now, maker of the exotic cars like Zonda, supercar maker Pagani is getting involved, or perhaps I should say hypercar maker, as that’s what we seem to be up to now. They have a separate team of EV specialists working in their first electric car, however don’t start saving just yet, it’s due 2025. This was revealed in an interview with Argentinian TV channel El Tres, when Horacio Pagani talked about their forthcoming electric car. Of course their competitors like Rimac and McLaren are well ahead if Pagani are 7 years away. He also gave his opinion of autonomous driving and said it will never be part of a Pagani as his cars were built to be driven. With makers like Pagani moving electric there’s really no other segment left standing, or hanging onto combustion engines, everyone is investing in the electrified transport. https://carbuzz.com/news/pagani-planning-to-launch-fully-electric-hypercar-by-2025 KEEP ON RUNNING The Global Times is reporting that China's First solar-powered super highway is expected to have EVs running on it within the next 4 years. It's a six-lane motorway or highway which will be made from solar panels that charge electric vehicles as they pass over it. Immediate thoughts turn to autonomous driving and ride sharing, both sectors getting huge investment in China, as it would rule out having to plug in a car which doesn't have a driver. The road will be a smart expressway which they say will use an adaptive road environment for automatic driving which should reduce damage from traffic accidents. China's first solar motorway was opened for testing in December 2017, however at only 1km long it's only being used as a test case. One of the early teething issues with the solar road was vandalism as people stole bits of it just days after it opened. https://sputniknews.com/amp/science/201803031062199376-china-solar-highway-2022/ MAZDAS WANKEL FUTURE For the purposes of this podcast let's call Mazda's legendary high revving engine the rotary engine, although if we're being historically correct, it's the Wankel Rotary engine. Last seen in a Mazda RX-8 in 2012, it's coming back thanks to electric cars. Mazda’s Vice President of Sales and Customer Service for Europe, Martijn ten Brink, confirmed the rotary’s return but said that it would be a single-disc engine that will be tasked with being a generator, or range extender. It is said to be “as big as a shoe box” and, just like the batteries in EVs, will be down low. One of the benefits of the rotary engine is the lack of vibrations so it will suit an EV. Mazda's new electric car and rotary generator are all part of Mazda’s new Zoom-Zoom 2030 plan. The rotary engine will be optional as a range extender and is being offered only to ease customer concern over range. Brink says the range extender isn’t necessary “because the average buyer travels an average of 37 miles (60 kilometres) per day from home to work and back again.” So just like Toyota who have committed to a combustion engine future, fellow Japanese Mazda see a long future for burning fossil fuels. https://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/mazda-confirms-the-rotary-engine-s-return-but-it-doesn-t-mean-what-you-think-ar180154.html NISSAN’S E-POWER SOLUTION And coincidentally on the subject of range-extender systems Nissan have their e-Power system, introduced last week in their people carriers for the Japanese market, after first being seen in the Note in 2016. Nissan's global chief planning officer, Philippe Klein, told Automotive News that e-Power will be coming to the USA as an optional extra. The Infiniti premium cars will also have e-Power soon. The e-Power combines engine, inverter and electric motor all together. Nissan's e-Power is similar to the Chevrolet Volt. It's a small combustion engine which works as a generator that charges a lithium ion battery. The battery then powers an electric motor, which directly turns the wheels. Unlike the Volt, however, the Nissan e-Power systems at the moment can't be plugged in. The Serena can travel 1.7 miles in Electric mode only, and although you're still burning fossil fuels, it means the engine can operate at it's most efficient range. The 1.7kWh battery is not a patch on the LEAF 40-kWh power pack and 110-kilowatt motor, but it's also far cheaper. 65 percent of all Note buyers are opting for the e-Power package according to Nissan. http://www.autonews.com/article/20180304/OEM06/180309763/nissan-epower-van-hybrid BYD BATTERY PLANS One of China's leading EV makers BYD has plans not only for the cars, but also for batteries and the associated energy storage solutions. At the Battery Japan 2018, BYD Battery Group’s managing director of Overseas Sales Division, Tom Zhao, said: “We are pouring billions into creating the cleanest possible product because it’s essential for us to live and breathe better,” Last year in BYD sold around 130,000 units of new energy vehicles, ranking number one in global new energy vehicle sales for the third consecutive year. Their battery plans include second life applications in storage, but BYD also want to take a lead in decommissioning used EV batteries in automated factories and using the parts. https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/auto-components/byd-releases-plans-for-rechargeable-batteries/63144814 Thank you for listening today, I hope you've enjoyed it. Mom and Mac cleared the air and their relationship was back on track. Mac got back to Walla Walla and got a warm welcome from his friends. Phillip's 12th birthday happened and Mom got the report from Spokane that she's been waiting on and found out the counselor accepted Mac. We got a “new-to-us” car, a Mazda RX-2 Mom named “Roxy.” Mom rented an apartment in Spokane so we moved, again. A Supreme Court case decision was made around this time that had a possible impact on Mac's release and Mom was hoping to find out what Mac's release date might be at his next parole hearing. Enjoy!
