Mitsubishi sold its last car in India in January 2020. Four years later, a post about the Pajero got 4,000 likes and 80 comments in four hours. That is the Mitsubishi story in India — great products, massive goodwill, zero strategy.In this episode of the evo India Podcast, Sirish Chandran and Aninda Sardar go through the complete Mitsubishi India journey. The Lancer that arrived in 1998 with independent rear suspension on a rally-derived chassis and beat the Honda City in every handling test — just not in engine feel. The Mitsubishi Cedia that shared its platform with the Evo 6 and 7. And the chairs are actually from the rally car that Sirish drove. The Pajero whose two-tone red-and-white paint job was not a design choice — the paint booth at the Tiruvallur facility was too small to fit the whole car, so the doors were painted separately. The Pajero Sport, which had more power and more torque than the Toyota Fortuner, cost ₹5 lakh more and never had a chance. The Mitsubishi Outlander had column-mounted paddle shifters borrowed from rally cars, a Rockford Fosgate sound system, and a CVT gearbox that killed it. Mitsubishi Motors hat sich offensichtlich entschlossen, seine Stellung im Automobilmarkt auszubauen. Der neue SUV Outlander Plug-in Hybrid gehört zum D-Segment, er stellt die nächste Stufe seiner Produktoffensive vor. Er basiert auf dem Produktkonzept I-Fu-Do-Do. Falls japanisch weder Ihre Muttersprache, noch die weite erlernte Fremdsprache ist, hier die Übersetzung. Es steht für authentisch und majestätisch. Dem kann man durchaus zustimmen.  Darum geht es diesmal!Als Mitsubishi im vergangenen Jahr den neuen Outlander präsentierte, ging für viele Fans der Marke geradezu die Sonne auf. Und das lag nicht daran, dass Japan auch das „Land der aufgehenden Sonne“ genannt wird. Schon der bisherige Outlander hatte seine Fans, die nun ihre Leidenschaft mit dem neuen Modell weiter pflegen können. Mitsubishi bietet den Wagen als Outlander Plug-in Hybrid an. Das Outfit!Optisch erinnert der im D-SUV-Segment angesiedelte Outlander Plug-in Hybrid an den SUV-Klassiker Pajero und das sicherlich nicht zufällig, der Pajero war ein Kultfahrzeug. Die Vorderansicht ist wie die Seitenansicht dynamisch und unverwechselbar. Auch das macht den Reiz des Outlander aus.  Power und Drive!    Ich bin seit einiger Zeit bekanntlich ein Freund von Plug-in-Hybriden, man ist auf der sicheren Seite, wenn Orte, die man regelmäßig anfährt, plötzlich Verbrennerverbote erlassen. Man fährt dann halt rein elektrisch rein. Der Outlander Plug-in Hybrid hat eine Systemleistung von 225 kW (306 PS), die sich aus einem 2.4 Benziner mit 100 kW (136 PS) und zwei Elektromotoren mit 85 kW (116 PS) vorn sowie 100 kW (136 PS) hinten zusammensetzen. Die Reichweite im rein elektrischen Betrieb liegt bei ca. 85 km, die Aufladung auf 80 % an einer Schnelladesäule wird in 32 Minuten erledigt. Rein elektrisch ist der Outlander PHEV 135 km/h schnell, im Normalbetrieb schafft er ca. 170 km/h. Tempo 100 wird nach 7,9 Sekunden erreicht.  Seine drei Fahrmodi – rein elektrisch, serieller- und Parallel-Hybridmodus – machen den Wagen flexibel für unterschiedliche Gegebenheiten.  Die Kosten!Die Preisskala den neuen Outlander Plug-in Hybrid beginnt mit einem Einstiegspreis von 49.990 Euro für den Outlander Plug-in Hybrid BASIS. Über die Ausstattungslinien Plus, Intro Edition und Top geht es final zum Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Top mit Luxury-Paket zum Preis von 58.490,00 Euro. Da sollte nun wirklich für jeden etwas dabei sein. Und schon das Basismodell hat eine ausgesprochen reichhaltige Ausstattungsliste. For example, when equipped with the 2.6-liter 4-cylinder, buyers got 109-hp and 142-lb.ft. of torque. In 1989, a V6 with 143-hp and 168-lb.ft. was available as an option. Don't buy a project! $3000 to $5000 range - Some decent examples can be found in this range with time and patience, but below $3,000 I would expect to find issue such as dents, rust, missing and broken parts, etc. $5000 to $8000 – Good solid options in this range, including some great family hand-me-downs that are undervalued for the market, but act quickly as good examples sell fast if underpriced. $8,000 to $12,000 – Really nice, near-perfect examples can be found in this range. If I were looking for a Raider, I would assume the price I eventually pay would likely fall into this range. $12,000 to $15,000 – The best examples will be found in this range, but once prices rise to this level, you have other options, including the 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ. Not so in the ride/handling departmentwhere it tends to wallow in the front end on rough road surfaces and feelsunderdamped. Certainly, comfortable on smooth surfaces and easy to manoeuvrearound town but again the all-round package feels dated against newercompetition like the Ford Everest. Mercedes and Andy Lilienthal are back, two of our favorite guests and they give use preview of the Summer Alcan 5000 Rally they'll be running durning late August/September.  Andy Lilienthal (Driver) is a die-hard gearhead. He's written about cars professionally since 1999 and has worked in the automotive aftermarket for 16 years, mostly at Warn Industries, the leader in vehicle recovery winches. Andy is an advanced off-road driver, teaches vehicle recovery classes, and writes about outdoor, off-road, and automotive topics for outlets like TREAD Magazine, Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road, Gear Junkie, The Truth About Cars, and more. The Alcan 5000 Rally is in August/early Sept.  They have competed in the winter Alcan 5000 Rally in Feb./March of 2020 with our Mitsubishi Pajero right-hand-drive diesel, in temps to -43 and beyond. A wide array of other customized 4x4s also competed in winter 2020, with lots of challenges for all competitors. Andy and Mercedes have had a long-standing relationship with Subaru as well as Subaru Motorsports, covering the Oregon Trail Rally races (on the ground and once even via their helicopter photographing Travis Pastrana and David Higgins as they rallies the event), reviewing their vehicles for various publications, and owning a few Subarus ourselves (we actually picked up a 2022 Crosstrek w/ manual transmission).
