Big SUVs don't have to drive like buses. We put the 2025 Ford Expedition King Ranch through a real week of miles and came away surprised by the steering precision, quiet ride, and how easily the cabin tech fades into the background so you can actually enjoy the drive. From the panoramic roof and bronze 22-inch wheels to a 24-inch driver display and 13.2-inch touchscreen, this full-size three-row blends comfort with capability, towing up to 9,600 pounds while returning honest, real-world fuel economy. We break down what matters for buyers: how BlueCruise and Co-Pilot360 2.0 help on long stints, how the B&O Unleashed 22-speaker audio fills the cabin, and why the second-row captain's chairs and power-folding third row make life easier for families. Then we talk money and matchups. The Expedition's pricing strategy ranges from a value-forward Active trim to the fully loaded King Ranch tested here, so cross-shopping the Chevy Tahoe, Nissan Armada, and Toyota Sequoia is essential. We explain who wins on base price, where hybrids shift the math, and why the Expedition's driving dynamics could be the tiebreaker.Durability fans get a deep dive into longevity. We outline why Toyota and Lexus dominate 250,000-mile lists, how Honda's practical engineering earns consistent high-mile results, and where Chevrolet proves its mettle with Suburban and Silverado. We also call out the pain points that keep RAM and Jeep from climbing the charts and explore why Tesla's older models struggle in used reliability rankings even as newer ones improve. To round out the enthusiast calendar, we map five standout concours events—from The Amelia and Greenwich to Cincinnati, Pebble Beach, and Ironstone—so you can plan your year around the cars that made history. Finally we look at the 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross, one of those SUVs that just makes sense. It's compact enough for tight parking spots but roomy enough for groceries, road trips, or the daily commute. The hybrid option boosts fuel economy, the ride is smooth and quiet, and the tech is easy to use. It's practical, affordable, and ready for everyday life without drama. If you love smart car shopping, long-haul ownership tips, and a little dream-garage inspiration, you're in the right place. TechCentral's electric car show Watts & Wheels is back for episode 3 of season 1, and while EVs remain the focus, the conversation takes a detour into something far less planet-friendly – and far more jaw-dropping. Duncan McLeod and co-host William Kelly kick off by drooling over a wild new Toyota performance machine they say is real, street legal and due in 2027. It's a 4l hybrid V8, rear-wheel drive “hypercar” with supercar proportions and serious numbers: 478kW and a quoted top speed of 320km/h or more. It's the sort of car that feels entirely out of character for Toyota – and that's exactly why they can't stop talking about it. From there, the conversation swings hard in the other direction: the all-electric Porsche Cayenne, which is shaping up as a huge statement from Stuttgart. The hosts discuss its performance claims – including a 0-100km/h sprint in the mid-2s range – and a range figure north of 600km. They also debate the realities of EV depreciation and whether buyer anxiety around battery longevity is starting to fade as real-world data shows high-mileage EVs retaining strong battery health. The episode then turns to Ford CEO Jim Farley's candid admission that big, expensive EV trucks haven't delivered as hoped – and why legacy car makers may need to refocus on smaller, more affordable models. The discussion touches on Ford's partnership with Renault on EVs, and what that could mean for markets like South Africa. But the meatiest local segment is BYD's push into South Africa with an aggressive product and charging strategy. William and Duncan unpack their impressions of the BYD Sealion 5 plug-in hybrid – positioned as a direct rival to the Toyota Corolla Cross – and criticise the lack of technical detail shared at its launch. They also discuss BYD's planned roll-out of a major charging network, including megawatt-scale sites, and what that could mean for shrinking range anxiety. The episode closes with the show's “Hot or Not” segment – and one clear takeaway: 2026 is shaping up as a pivotal year for electrification, even as petrolhead fantasies refuse to die. Watch S1E3 of Watts & Wheels now – and don't forget to subscribe. TechCentral
In this episode of Beyond Rockets, Clark sits down with David Fernandes, Senior Vice President at Mazda Toyota Manufacturing and Group Vice President for Toyota, to go inside one of North Alabama's most transformative projects. David shares his journey from growing up near the Indy 500 and working at GM and Rolls-Royce to leading multiple Toyota plants across the U.S., South Africa, and now the joint Mazda Toyota facility in Huntsville. He explains how the $2.3B plant was built during the pandemic, how it now produces Corolla Cross and Mazda CX-50 models at incredible volume, and why they've grown to a 4,000-person workforce pulled from a 60-mile radius. David also talks about culture, career paths that don't require a four-year degree, local partnerships with schools and nonprofits, and why he believes “nothing's impossible” when a team is aligned. If you've ever driven past the massive facility near Greenbriar and wondered what happens inside, this conversation pulls back the curtain.https://mazdatoyota.comhttps://www.instagram.com/mazdatoyotamanufacturing/

Das Zauberwort, dass Autos up to date halten soll, heißt „Modellpflege“.

This audio is brought to you by Endress and Hauser, a leading supplier of products, solutions and services for industrial process measurement and automation. Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has added the Hilux double-cab and Fortuner 48 V mild hybrids to its local production line-up at its Durban plant in KwaZulu-Natal. The addition of the new models brings Toyota's local hybrid production tally to three, adding to the existing Corolla Cross hybrid assembly. TSAM says the launch of the models "introduces electrification to the pick-up and sports-utility vehicle (SUV) range for the first time". The Hilux is South Africa's best-selling vehicle, while the Fortuner still commands the largest slice of the medium SUV segment in South Africa, with average sales of more 800 units a month and a market share of 40%. "By adding a hybrid 48 V system to the Hilux and Fortuner, Toyota strengthens its inclusive multi-technology pathway approach to carbon neutrality," notes the local arm of the Japanese manufacturer. "Toyota believes all customers need a variety of affordable and practical options, including for commercial and off-road vehicles." The hybrid system uses Toyota's 2.8 l diesel engine. This engine drives a compact motor generator using a belt system, which, in turn, charges the new 48 V, 7.6 kg lithium battery, which is small enough to be installed under the rear seats to minimise impact on cabin space. This battery also supplies the vehicle's 12 V system. Like Toyota's full hybrid electric systems, the battery is charged during deceleration, regenerating braking energy that would otherwise be lost, while also adding additional braking performance. Once charged, the battery sends up to 12 kW of power and 65 Nm of torque through the motor generator to the engine to enhance acceleration, power and efficiency. Toyota says the motor generator is compact and has been designed to withstand the harsher working environments of commercial vehicles, while the engine has been modified to adapt to the hybrid system. "A new two-arm belt tensioner and stronger belt material contribute to the improved drivability and a quieter ride, whilst retaining the vehicle's famous durability." Toyota also notes that the hybrid system, as well as an enhanced stop-start system that allows the engine to remain off for longer periods, both serve to improve fuel efficiency by up to 5% compared with the conventional non-electrified diesel powertrain. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota and Ford are all currently producing some form of hybrid in South Africa, or will soon do so.

The era of the crossover is here. Once the sedan was king, then the wagon became the family hauler, and then the minivan. Now, it's time for crossovers. Naturally, that means automakers will keep finding spaces to throw new models and leverage existing names. When it comes to Toyota, it's hard to find a name that resonates more than Corolla or Camry, which makes one of them a perfect addition to the crossover lineup. Toyota's Corolla Cross leverages the existing love for the Corolla's legacy, but gives shoppers, well, a crossover. Mazda approached its crossover and SUV naming conventions from a different angle. The company stuck with its alphanumeric system that its customers have grown to learn. Of course, the CX-5 is no spring chicken when it comes to the crossover sales sheet and has been in Mazda's lineup for over a decade. On this bonus episode of Quick Spin Talking Cars with the Boss, host Wesley Wren chats with Autoweek's boss: Natalie Neff. The pair chat about Neff's time with these two crossovers, and give context to the two models. Neff and Wren chat about the evolving crossover space, the hybrid powertrain in the Corolla Cross, and the consistent styling of Mazda's crossovers.

The Corolla Cross is a low-priced, high-value crossover SUV, a vehicle type American consumers just can't seem to get enough of. In little more than a year on the market, it has already become a giant hit. The addition of a hybrid-powered version tops the model line with a model that isn't just efficient — it's engaging. More horsepower and a sport-tuned suspension will do that. The 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid delivers better acceleration than the conventional Corolla Cross, and Toyota emphasizes that added sportiness in the way it decks it out. The Corolla Cross Hybrid is available as an S, SE, or XSE, the brand's sport-oriented grades. In addition to its taut suspension, even the base S features LED headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and smart key access. The SE adds privacy glass, roof rails, paddle shifters, blind spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert. The XSE is the sportiest and most luxurious Corolla Cross Hybrid with 18-inch alloy wheels, premium LED lighting front and rear, leatherette seat coverings, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Host Jack Nerad had the chance to drive several Corolla Cross Hybrid variants at a recent driving event in Southern California, and he'll have a full report. Also in the road test segment, guest host Matt DeLorenzo was behind the wheel of the battery-electric Volkswagen ID.4. The ID.4 brings European driving dynamics to the BEV crossover segment, and Matt DeLorenzo, author of How to Buy an Affordable Electric Car, will share his thoughts. In the news, Tesla has cut the prices on some of its models for the sixth time this year. We'll tell you what's behind these unusual price changes and give you our comments coming up later in this segment. Also in the news this week, the other shoe dropped on federal electric-vehicle tax credits, and there are big winners and big losers. A number of well-known brands are crying this week. We'll give you the details plus our commentary on the multi-billion dollar decision a little later. On new-car front, Buick revealed the 2024 Envista, a vehicle it claims, offers the cargo space and utility of an SUV, packaged in the sleek proportions typically found in a sedan. Not only that, but it's darn good-looking. We'll give you the details and our reactions coming up. We have a terrific guest for you this week. Ted West is a veteran auto journalist and author of one of the best motor racing novels ever, a book called Closing Speed. He is also one of the reasons Host Jack Nerad got into the business of reviewing cars in the first place. We will bring you their conversation and much more in this episode of America on the Road.

This week on the Unnamed Automotive Podcast, witness something that's as rare as a double-rainbow: the double-Toyota subcompact crossover conversation. Sami and Benjamin discuss their experiences in Toyota's TWO small crossovers: the 2022 Corolla Cross and the C-HR. Is is a problem for Toyota and its customers? Which one of these two vehicles is better positioned for success? The pair also dive into the origin stories of the two cars and where they find the most love around the world. Benjamin and Sami then celebrate the retirement of our longtime listener and fan, the Honda ASIMO, who will now go to a cushy robo retirement facility in Florida to live out the rest of its years. Additionally, our hosts dissect the new Hurricane engine from Stellantis, which signals that the era of awesome ICE propulsion isn't over yet. Do like the posters on the wall say: Live, Laugh, Love, or in our case, Listen, Laugh, Like." Note:_ A previous version of this episode went out a full day early with a few minutes of pre-podcast banter (disguised as CH-R/Corolla Cross research) somehow appended to the beginning. We apologize for the lack of professionalism on that premature launch, which can be blamed entirely on Benjamin, whose cognitive skills are rapidly deteroriating with age._ Thanks so much to the listener who brought the problem to our attention!
