Jacob Hopkins talks joining the "How To Train Your Dragon" universe, playing a vampire as a child, growing up on TV, and a few times casting told him to pack his bag....when he didn't need to!About Jacob:Jacob's big break came when he landed a role on the fifth season of the popular HBO series True Blood. In the critically acclaimed show, Jacob played Alexander Drew, the youngest (looking) member of the Vampire Authority. Having turned at the age of nine, his character was an impetuous vamp who liked to taunt those around him. Jacob shared the screen with fellow Authority chancellors Christopher Meloni, Peter Mensah, and Carolyn Hennesy as well as lead actors Alexander Skarsgard and his Priest co-star Stephen Moyer. At nineteen, he is making his mark in the voice over world. He voices the lead character, Fushi, an immortal being who takes on the form of deceased nameless boy in the anime series To Your Eternity. The show is based on the Japanese manga series of the same name and is airing now on Crunchyroll. He can also be heard on Netflix's Dragons: Rescue Riders as Axel Finke. The show is a spin-off of the fan favorite movie, How to Train Your Dragon. He also honed his comedic chops as the voice of Gumball Watterson in Cartoon Network's animated hit The Amazing World of Gumball, one of his favorite shows. The BAFTA Award-winning series chronicles the adventures of an amusing twelve-year-old cat with a fair for misadventure, and his extraordinary suburban family, who live in constant conflict with their ordinary town. The second highest-rated cartoon on the network, Gumball has been praised for its “first-rate silliness” and “really clever spin on domestic chaos” by Variety.Jacob is definitely no stranger to the small screen. Following his success on True Blood, he landed a recurring role on The Goldbergs. In this hilarious comedy, Jacob plays Chad Kremp, who is a cool and preppy kid on the surface, but a geek at heart. His character becomes instant friends with Adam Goldberg (Sean Giambrone) as they share a love for all things geeky. The series also stars Jeff Garlin and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Jacob was also seen in the Lifetime Movie Missing at 17, which tells the poignant tale of the struggles a family faces when their teenage daughter goes missing. As the younger brother Andrew, Jacob plays a pivotal role in helping his parents find his missing sister. Other notable television credits include guest roles on How I Met Your Mother as well as About A Boy and Animal Practice.Jacob has also ventured on to the big screen. His first feature film was Priest, where he had a small but memorable role opposite Paul Bettany and Stephen Moyer. Jacob also lent his talents to the short film The Boy Who Cried Fish, where he gave a moving performance as an autistic child. Jacob's performance was praised by fans and critics alike, earning him a "Best Male Performer" award at the Action on Film Festival. In Just a Little Heart Attack he played the very smart son of Elizabeth Banks, who also directed the project. He also starred as the supporting lead in CBS Films Middle School: Worst Years of My Life as Miller. Jacob further showcased his acting prowess in two web series. He was cast in RCVR, which was honored as Best Drama Web Series at the 2012 International Academy of Web Television Awards and Supermoms, where he co-starred opposite Joey Lauren Adams. Jacob will return to the world of film in Carolina's Calling, which stars Antonio Sabato Jr., Stacey Dash, and Savanah Moss. Kalmen Barkin is back for an update on Israeli politics. Naftali Bennett has just taken over as Israel's prime minister, following Benjamin Netanyahu's failure to successfully form a coalition government. Bennett, explains Barkin, is quite far on the right, yet he and Netanyahu are bitter rivals—indeed, Barkin says, this whole election was less about specific policy issues than it was about mutual desire to oust Netanyahu. And so the new ruling coalition has elements from both the left and the right, and, for the first time, Arabs. Mainstream Israeli political parties have traditionally refused to work with the Arabs, even when it would have given them a political edge. Whether the Arab party working with Bennett in the new government will be able to successfully advocate for Palestinians in Israel and the occupied territories remains to be seen. If the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it's that we all need to be prepared to navigate our business (and lives) through disruption and uncertainty so it's strong and secure enough to weather any storm and emerge stronger from it. The question is how do we do this? The simple answer is by building resilience into your business. The longer answer is what I'm going to be discussing with my guest today, Founder of Results Trained Tony Guarnaccia, who is here to share with you a new approach to growing your business, by focusing on taking the small steps necessary to grow your profits in any economy, and build a business that lasts. As you'll hear, Tony HAD to have resilience. From being homeless (twice) to working with some of the greatest companies in the world like Google, Ford and ADP, he's lived through both the peaks and valleys of life. On this episode: Why Tony and I aren't just a couple of idiots standing on the side of a river... What is business resilience? The first thing to focus on when things go wrong. The 6 growth factors that work for every business. Resilience lessons you can learn from failure. If you can clearly explain this... Your company WILL grow. The formula for Exponential growth. For many people, networking events are one of the main (if not the primary) source of clients for their business. So what happens when all of a sudden the world goes into lockdown and social distancing restrictions take this source of clients (and revenue) away? Well a lot of people freaked out. No surprise there. But it's even more scary if you're the one putting these events together!! However, the savvy ones took a step back and looked at the situation, assessed it for what it was and made a fast shift. They took what makes these events successful in the real world, and went virtual. That's what my guest today Martin Knapp has done, and he's here to talk about the benefits of virtual networking, how it differs from face to face, and share his story about the importance of being open to making fast changes to your offer in the face of massive disruption. Martin is founder of Bookable.Online, an automated CRM system where you can manage and market your business from one spot, as well as the creator of Business Breakout Virtual Networking which is a part mastermind, part networking group giving members an opportunity to meet other business owners, collaborate, and learn from business leaders. On this episode: The importance of being flexible in the face of massive disruption. The difference between virtual and in person networking. Misconceptions about networking and how to make it work for you. How Hollywood movies can help you to make the perfect 30 second introduction. Tips on how to pitch your business with confidence. Business lessons from war, wall street and poker... How to run your own effective virtual networking event to build an audience. Big business, and the people that run them, THINK differently. So as we're all capable of thinking, this would suggest that every small business has the potential to become big by adopting how big business thinks. Makes sense right? But unless you have worked in big business, or have access to those that do, then this could be easier said than done. Which is why you're going to gain a huge amount of value from my guest today, Isar Meitis. He was an F-16 air force pilot in the Israel Air Force, has an executive MBA, founded a startup, and then became the president of E-commerce for Tourico Holidays, the largest travel wholesale company in the US, essentially running a B2C startup within this large B2B corporate. On this episode: The most dangerous period in any company's growth... Are you mowing all the grass in your business? The key responsibilities of a CEO that every small business owner has to embrace. What being an F16 pilot can teach you about business. Success lessons from failure. When you can't outspend your competition, do this... Touch down in Karratha, it's January 8, 1989 and my teenage dream of having a career in radio is about to get underway. It’s my first week of a new job and a brand new life, I'm 19 years old and I’m about to find out my first shift on air starts IN JUST 3 DAYS and I've never been on air before (aside from reading scripts as part of the 15 week Vaughan Harvey Radio Course I attended in Adelaide in 1988, and a fully scripted hour of radio at the end of the course from a tiny radio station in Port Augusta called 5AU that I'll then use as my audition tape to secure this job). I’ve also gotta navigate a share house with all the other announcers, and this is the first time I’ve lived out of my parents home. Will I shit myself before my first shift? Can a mummy's boy make it on his lonesome? Also why would anyone in their right mind allow a teenager access to an open microphone and leave them ALONE in a radio station? What was radio like before the internet, mobile phones and social media, and how did I adjust to all of the things? We've got almost 365 days worth of diary entries to work our way through, find out how the first 7 days went as I read a weeks worth of entries, for the very first time in 30 plus years to my parents Anne and Graham.
What if you could discover new clients and leads in places you have never thought to look? What if you were sitting on a literal goldmine of potential clients and revenue, but just couldn't see it? As Founder of Benson Design, an agency that specializes in message-driven marketing and design, over the last 35 years Roland has helped thousands of businesses increase their success by attracting new leads & turning them into clients. In fact, his strategies helped one of his clients grow from $0 to $89 million in just 8 years! On this episode: Do you have an Einstein or Frankenstein brain? The 3 critical things you absolutely must know to grow a business. Why it's easier to keep a client for 25 years, than it is to find new ones. Why not every client is created equally... How one idea can change your business forever. The true value of mentorship. How opening up about being dyslexic opened the lid to massive business growth. Today we're going to be talking about a prime example of why the “wisdom of crowds” isn't always the most reliable source of facts and why it's important to sometimes ignore the dogma and TEST things for yourself! Because today we're talking about LinkedIn Advertising. “LinkedIn ads are too expensive. They don't work. Facebook is the only place to pay for ads.” I could go on, but these are just some of the things I hear when it comes to advertising on LinkedIn. The truth is, while they do require a different approach, LinkedIn ads can help your business reach a professional audience that have twice the buying power compared to other channels. In fact as many as 65% of B2B marketers have acquired clients by using ads on LinkedIn. But LinkedIn ads are their own category and require their own approach. So today you'll learn how to make them work from my guest Anthony Blatner, who is a leading expert on generating a positive ROI from LinkedIn advertising. He is the founder of Modern Media, an Advertising agency that helps B2B companies reach high-level decision makers at scale using LinkedIn Ads and technology. And as there aren't many out there sailing on the blue ocean of linkedIn Ads, and even fewer that have proven results, it's safe to say that Anthony is one of the top LinkedIn ads experts in the industry, having managed millions in ad spend and generating over 100,000 new sales opportunities. On this episode: Why you should be looking at LinkedIn Ads if you sell B2B The types of LinkedIn Ads Why LinkedIn Ads aren't as expensive as you think The step by step process to generate leads with LinkedIn Ads A seriously clever way to use LinkedIn Ads you'll probably never have heard of And much more! After a bit of a hiatus during the Covid lockdown, I'm back with a solo episode today! During all the disruption, I've realised how important it has become to reassess and go back to basics. And one of those basics is that it's easy to forget how powerful someone else's words can be for your own business. As the saying goes “Nobody sells you better than someone else.” But I'm not just talking about your standard “testimonials” here. I'm talking about something FAR more powerful... On this episode: How the Covid lockdown has impacted my business The Single Most Powerful Marketing Asset Available To Any Business The Simple Process To Extract Powerful “Storymonials” That Has Your Clients Selling YOU. Today's guest is Bill Bice, a serial entrepreneur who started his first company at age 14. Since then Bill has founded and invested in 27 companies, always seeing the same correlation: the better you are at marketing, the more significant your success. But as you know, that's easier said than done! In fact he got so frustrated in trying to get great marketing help for his own companies, that he decided to tackle the problem himself. So as a programmer at heart, Bill began tackling marketing as a technology problem, by following the data to understand what really works. A couple of days ago, Travis Ketchum, CEO of Campaign Refinery and Contest Domination, Chris Bruno, CEO of SocialINK, and myself, decided to run an open Zoom Collaboration Call to help businesses and entrepreneurs with their marketing during these difficult times. The idea was to try to help as many people as we could during this COVID situation. We are all experiencing the same things and it's hard to figure out what to do next when no one knows what's coming next. While we did EVENTUALLY manage to have a great conversation and share some solid ideas on what we can all be doing right now, unfortunately it got off to a bit of a rocky start... Basically we experienced first hand what #ZoomBombing was the hard way. We also learned a valuable lesson… Don't put an open link to a Zoom call out into the world! We didn't want to ask people to register as didn't want to put anyone off thinking it was some kind of “data gathering” exercise. But unfortunately a few people who have clearly been stuck inside for too long showed up and thought it would be hilarious to start throwing insults, profanities and showing screens of lewd acts…! There's a few villages missing more than one idiot by the look of things! You can read what Chris wrote about this by reading the blog post he wrote about it here But as everything that is going on right now requires quick thinking, resourcefulness and flexibility, we did manage to quickly pivot and host the call on a different platform (Thanks Travis!!!) So tune in to hear us share our thoughts about the "new normal" and discuss creative ways to sustain (and grow) your business during this challenging period and beyond. If you suffer from the dreaded “feast / famine” in your business, then the chances are it's because your marketing is not being done consistently. Because without a systematic process powering your marketing, you end up skipping key activities when you're busy with clients, and then rushing trying to fill the pipeline when you're not. And although it doesn't sound as sexy as the latest “shiny object marketing tactic” or “secret hack”, a systematic process for marketing that ensures all your key activities are done consistently is the closest thing there is out there to a “secret hack”, and is the foundation of all sustainable business growth. The good news is that this doesn't have to be complicated, and exactly what my guest and I are going to be talking about today. Adam Franklin is a professional speaker and the author of Amazon #1 bestseller Web Marketing That Works. His work has been featured in Forbes, Huffington Post, Entrepreneur and today is CEO of Bluewire Media where he teaches 1000s of clients how to win high value clients using LinkedIn via his online courses and coaching programs. He also has an awesome name… ;-) On this episode: Adam's 3 Part LinkedIn Lead Generation Methodology Why automation on LinkedIn is not a good idea How to find your ideal clients on LinkedIn The best way to start conversations on LinkedIn Using content to take advantage of LinkedIn's HUGE organic reach How Adam would save his business if he had to, in 30 days And much more! Pretty obvious, but without leads and sales opportunities no business can survive. The problem is that too many businesses just aren't equipped to generate enough quality sales opportunities to grow. Probably because many are using outdated tactics that just aren't going to work in today's social selling environment. For decades, marketing and sales teams have used high-volume outreach tactics to drive revenue OR they've sat around waiting for inbound leads and referrals. But things are changing. The old way of doing business doesn't cut it these days. Buyers have changed. They are more sophisticated. They are more discerning. And with so many offers being presented to them from so many sources, trust (for many) has become harder to win. So what do you do? Well my guest today Tobin Slaven from SalesMap.me is going to tell you! (and probably blow your mind in the process) On this episode: Confessions of a reformed digital marketer. What are Conversations at Scale? Why "Funnels" don't work the way they're sold to you. Tobin's 4 Gears of Marketing. How to fill your pipeline with interested and qualified prospects using LinkedIn. Because we don't know when the next crisis is around the corner do we? A huge bill lands on the doormat... Tax bill that's larger than expected... Your main sales "rainmaker" leaves taking half your clients with them... What would you do to get 3 clients in 30 days to get back in balance? Today's episode focuses on something slightly different... We're going to be talking about SLEEP. Why you might be thinking? Isn't this a podcast about growing a business? Well, according to RAND Europe's research and cross-country analysis in 2016, lack of sleep among UK workers is costing the economy around £40 billion and 200,000 working days lost each year, and that's not even mentioning worldwide figures! So it's clear that a lack of good quality sleep can have serious impacts on your business. Both from the negative impact on your own performance, and that of your staff. Which is why in this episode I'm talking to Beatrix Schmidt. Beatrix is a sleep coach professional speaker, author of The Sleep Deep Method®, and founder of The Sleep Deep Practice. Having struggled with insomnia and burning herself out in her mid-twenties, she spent the last 10 years researching sleep and learning that in order for us to sleep well at night, we need to look much deeper than just how tired we are and the number of hours we sleep. And for me, as a parent to 2 daughters under 4, this is a subject I'm constantly thinking about! On this episode: The problems caused by a lack of sleep. How sleep deprivation shows up in your everyday life. How the culture of a business can contribute to poor sleep. The ROI of consistently getting enough quality sleep. A good night's sleep doesn't just happen in the bedroom… Finally… a practical answer to the question: “how much sleep do I need?” How Beatrix has applied simplicity to grow her practice. What Beatrix would do if she had 30 days to save her business. And much more! I must admit, when I started The Client Catching Podcast, I wasn't sure whether it would be a success, or another "shiny object" that got me all excited at the start, only to fizzle out into the "podfade graveyard"... Starting a podcast was actually pretty easy. Keeping a podcast going is another thing! Apparently around 75% of published podcasts are no longer in production. So you'll have to forgive me for indulging in a little celebration! Not only reaching this milestone of 50 episodes, but for being (mostly) consistent with it! I've been able to share some amazing stories, strategies and conversations with some truly remarkable guests. Each and everyone has shared amazing insights and value around how they've achieved their success. But there's one thing that has stood out above all else. Once success factor that seems almost universal across all of their success. So perhaps I've "cracked the success code"... I share this insight, as well as reveal the top 5 most listened to episodes from the first 50 episodes of The Client Catching Podcast, with a short summary of each. *DICLAIMER* There were some technical difficulties with the audio in this episode. I do apologize for the quality of the recording. *DISCLAIMER*Brittany Blanton is one of those people who always seems to have something on the go. She has the poise and presence of an industry veteran, but hasn’t been involved in film for as long as she gives off, which is, to me, very impressive. Brittany really embodies what Women in Horror Month is all about in terms of work ethic, passion, and seizing the opportunity when it comes. In Just five short years, Brittany has appeared in, or will appear in 24 different projects, with many of them filming later this year. If that doesn’t scream work ethic, I don’t know what does. With just a few more interviews left in this series, I believe Brittany was one of the first - and even now our chat stays with me. She leaves an impression with people, and that is so important in the film industry. With that said though, I’m excited to see what her future brings. An upcoming film called Parallels looks to be a huge stepping stone in her career, not to mention all the many projects that are yet to come. Beyond acting, Brittany has stepped behind the camera a handful of times as well to show off her creative mind. Hopefully there’s more to come from her on that end as well. You can find some of her work, such as her biggest role to-date, Don’t Fuck In The Woods on Google Play Movies, and other streaming services. You can also find out more about future productions from the company she’s apart of at https://conceptmediallc.com/home See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
I turn 40 this week (14th Feb 2020 for those seeing this in the future...). Not quite sure how that happened! After I mentioned this to a guest before an interview a few weeks ago, they asked me... "What did you learn in your 30's that has prepared you for your 40's?" I must admit, I couldn't answer this right there and then! But it did get me thinking about the lessons I've learned, and I considered how they contribute to successful marketing. And I decided to share what I came up with to (hopefully) help you! Some of these are quite personal, and still hard to talk about. But as I believe business development is as much personal development as anything else, I didn't hold back. On this episode: The 4 Big Business (& Life) Lessons I've Learned Turning 40 What a diagnosis of ADHD in my 30's taught me about the importance of putting your personality in your marketing. Why you can only blame yourself if you're not where you want to be. How trauma in life can impact your success in business. Why integrity matters more than anything in your marketing (and your life). It’s Episode 80, or as we are calling this one, Episode LXXX, in honor of the Super Bowl, played today between the Chiefs and 49ers. The preseason is underway, and as such, we recap the closed-to-everyone friendly victory over NYCFC, 3-1. The match had plenty of history for being a preseason friendly, as Brian Rodriguez finally put one in the back of the net for the Black and Gold. 2020 SuperDraft pick Jorge Gonzalez also got on the board, a goal you could have seen LIVE on Defenders of the Banc’s Instagram @defendersofthebanc! Kenneth Vermeer got the start before eventually giving way to Pablo Sisniega. In Just 16 days, LAFC takes on Leon in Guanajuato in the first leg of the first round of the CCL. Will you be joining Scarf in Leon? The boys close the episode with their thoughts on Super Bowl LIV and, of course, the tragic passing of Kobe, Gianna, and 7 others a week ago. In this edition the Rock N Roll Archaeologist digs very deep into the events of the Altamont Music festival held on December 6th, 1969. Our special guest is author Saul Austerlitz whose latest book is “Just a Shot Away: Peace, Love and Tragedy with the Rolling Stones at Altamont”. Saul is a long time music journalist who has had work published in the LA Times, NY Times, Boston Globe, Slate, the Village Voice, The New Republic, the SF Chronicle, Spin, Rolling Stone, and Paste. He is the author of several previous books, including Money for Nothing: A History of the Music Video from the Beatles to the White Stripes. In Just a Shot Away, writer and critic Saul Austerlitz tells the story of “Woodstock West,” where the Rolling Stones hoped to end their 1969 American tour triumphantly with the help of the Grateful Dead, the Jefferson Airplane, and 300,000 fans. Instead the concert featured a harrowing series of disasters, starting with the concert’s haphazard planning. The bad acid kicked in early. The Hells Angels, hired to handle security, began to prey on the concertgoers. And not long after the Rolling Stones went on, an 18-year-old African-American named Meredith Hunter was stabbed by the Angels in front of the stage. The show, and the Woodstock high, were over. Austerlitz shows how Hunter’s death came to symbolize the end of an era while the trial of his accused murderer epitomized the racial tensions that still underlie America. He also finds a silver lining in the concert in how Rolling Stone’s coverage of it helped create a new form of music journalism, while the making of the movie about Altamont, Gimme Shelter, birthed new forms of documentary. Using scores of new interviews with Paul Kantner, Jann Wenner, journalist John Burks, filmmaker Joan Churchill, and many members of the Rolling Stones' inner circle, as well as Meredith Hunter's family, Austerlitz shows that you can’t understand the ‘60s or rock and roll if you don’t come to grips with Altamont. Join Christian and Saul as they discuss the book in great detail. Get the book here: https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781250083197

My story today is about morals...sort of. In Just, which is a morality tale for the 21st century, the listener gets to choose the fate of the main couple. But be forewarned before you listen: Just is full of betrayal — for everyone involved. (Also, there is a bit of office talk.) Each of them will toil away in an office, where they feel productive and small at the same time, where they trade office gossip and find structure to the unwieldy hours of the day. The type of jobs they do does not matter. They are just jobs. Listen to the story and leave your choice in the comments? Did you get the "right" answer? That’s my story.
