What is your "one thing?" Ideally, when people think of you, one or two things should come to mind. If you are spread too thin and doing too many different things, nothing will really stand out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ngobroldigitalmarketing/support

If we want to see the best results in all areas of our lives, we have to start prioritizing our day effectively. Is there a simple way to decide what matters most - and how should we be prioritizing our time to ensure we make the most of every moment? Why is it so important to build the right habits now? On this episode, bestselling author and Vice President of KellerINK, Jay Papasan shares his steps to prioritize successfully. Takeaways + Tactics Keep it simple. We’re all attracted to sophisticated, intricate systems, but in reality these don’t last long. Find an uncomplicated and effective way to manage time, and stay consistent. Prioritize the most important activity, not the easiest one. When people start with the most important task, they often find themselves completing or combining numerous items. Be consistent. Creating effective habits is the key to success - even if we’re only making one focused call a day, we’ll be more likely to see consistent long-term results than someone sporadically making 100 calls. Guest Bio- Jay Papasan is a bestselling author, an executive at Keller Williams Realty Inc., and a co-owner of KellerINK, Keller Capital, and Papasan Properties Group. His most recent work with Gary Keller, The One Thing, has sold more than 1.5 million copies, been translated into 35 languages and appeared on more than 500 national bestseller lists including #1 on the The Wall Street Journal’s hardcover business list. Do you usually start your year with a financial goal? Most people do, whether that’s saving more money, getting on a budget, or increasing their net worth. Whatever it is, though, you have to do certain things in order to be successful. In this episode, Anthony ONeal shares the story of how he did everything he was told to do to pursue the American Dream — working hard in school to get into a good college so that he could get a good job — but then life happened. He got kicked out of school and ended up homeless, wondering if he was better off dead or alive. Today, you may know Anthony as one of the Dave Ramsey personalities or as the author of the Wall Street Journal #1 bestselling book Debt-Free Degree. Have you ever worked hard day in and day out, week after week, only to find yourself wondering why you’re even doing what you’re doing? Sometimes we are so focused on climbing the ladder that we don’t notice it’s leaning against the wrong wall — and this is because there are unintended consequences to setting your goals by looking forward. When you set goals looking forward, you miss the most important part of goal setting: where you’re going and why you’re going. If you don’t have that purpose and priority before you set your goals and start working away at them, you can’t be productive. So, in this episode, Clay Clark, Founder of ThriveTime Show and co-host of Business School Without the BS, is going to share when he realized he was living a life by default and how he started living a life by design. If you want this same experience facilitated for you, consider joining us at our Goal-Setting Retreat. In this episode, you will learn... No one succeeds alone — yet, most people try to. One of the biggest mistakes we see people making is that they set goals by themselves, and then they struggle throughout the year because the people who are in their life — the people who have to buy into their goals if they want to accomplish them — aren’t on the same page. That’s why we created The ONE Thing Couple’s Goal-Setting Retreat, modeling an exercise that Jay and Wendy Papasan have been doing for the past decade. The point isn’t to negotiate for whose goals are right, but for each person to understand what the other person’s goals are and how they can support the other person in achieving those goals. In this episode, we’re going to look at what happens when a couple, for the first time, sets their goals together. The results are pretty amazing, but here’s the best part: you can do it too. If you want to put the ideas discussed in this episode into action, consider joining us at our Goal-Setting Retreat. And if you can’t make it to Austin this year, we’ll help you host your own retreat with the Kick Ass Guide® to Your Couples Goal Setting Retreat and the Goal Setting Retreat Master Course. In this episode, you will learn... [13:20] How you know when you aren’t on the same page with the people close to you. [17:50] What has surprised Jake & Alyx since their goal-setting retreat. [25:40] Why you should set goals with not just your significant other, but also your business partner and/or team. [29:10] What you should avoid when you’re setting goals. What were you taught about setting goals as a kid? If we’re taught anything, we’re usually taught to set goals around New Year’s. But now, as we head into the last quarter of the year, is actually the perfect time to start considering our goals for the upcoming year. Gary Keller and Jay Papasan show us that, if you want to have great success, you have to have a bigger view of time — and you have to understand that the actions you take today may not have results until days or months down the road. So, in this episode, Jay and Wendy Papasan are going to share how they’ve been setting goals for years and how you can apply these simple practices into your own relationship and/or business, even if the other people in your world aren’t goal setters. As a working mother you are probably juggling more balls up in the air than most circus clowns. If you've ever done a Google Search on how to multi task you probably discovered over 6 million hits offering to help you figure out how to get everything on your to-do list done. If only there was a way to focus on one thing at a time that would actually shrink your to-do list. It would be great to have a way to know exactly what to do in each moment that would create a domino effect and help alleviate overwhelm and stress while increasing productivity. The NY Times and Wall Street Journal best-selling book “The One Thing” by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan teaches just that. It teaches you that when everything feels urgent and important, everything seems equally necessary. The authors explain that multitasking is a lie that has become a strange badge of honor and is actually a quality that employers mistakenly target. Of course humans are capable of doing two things at the same time like walking and talking, but you actually aren't capable of focusing on two things at the same time which is costing you more than you realize. This week I'm going to discuss how to decrease your to-do list by asking a powerful focusing question and how to apply it to any area of your life.

Jay's curiosity about why some people get extraordinary outcomes and others do not helped fuel his work with Gary Keller to write The ONE Thing, which has sold over 1.3 million copies worldwide, has garnered more than 400 appearances on national bestseller lists (including #1 on The Wall Street Journal's hardcover business list), and has been translated into 30 different languages. Whether working with his wife Wendy to raise funds for Heroes for Children, inspiring others to take action toward their goals, or aiming to be the best husband and father he can be, Jay strives to remain awake and aware - with clarity and focus on his values and goals. It was almost called the “success habit.” Instead, Jay Papasan and Gary Keller released their popular book on purpose driven productivity as The ONE Thing, which went on to sell over 1.3 million copies worldwide, made 400 appearances on national bestseller lists (including # 1 on The Wall Street Journal’s hardcover business list), and was translated into 30 different languages. The reason for the book’s success is clear: learning to ask the all-important “focusing question,” and figuring out your own “one thing,” can be a true game changer. While application of the books’ principles of highly leveraged action may be focused onto a different priority for each of us, the common starting point in everyone’s journey is a determination of purpose. In this episode, Jay goes into detail on how purpose driven priority helps reveal the road map for a productive life of fulfillment and meaning. As Jay explains, it’s not as hard as you might think to get started in the right direction. In today’s podcast, Jay introduces us to the concepts in the book, and offers examples and insightful explanations that have no doubt been informed by the hundreds of hours he has spent speaking and teaching on these principles to scores of audiences worldwide. In this episode, we discuss: The importance of taking failure out of the equation through practice of fundamentals, developing positive habits, and getting the basics right How travel helps shape our perspectives Application of the economics and quality management theory known as the Pareto Principle (also called the “80/20 rule”) to everyday life What is the focusing question, and how does that reveal your own “ONE Thing”? Why it’s more important to set a direction, rather than picking a destination, when determining purpose The myth of a balanced life Happiness - no, it’s really not about money Building purpose driven culture as a leader Daily techniques for protecting time and priority Common thieves of productivity I hope you enjoy this show as we talk to Jay about the purpose in the process of figuring out your own “ONE Thing”!
