Redmond police believe two defendants busted in a home burglary in Redmond in October are linked to an organized crime ring. The department believes the international group is responsible for multiple burglaries in Redmond and neighboring communities. "The suspects in this case specifically are tied to a larger transnational organized crime ring that a lot of agencies on the Eastside have been tracking for a while," said Redmond Police Detective Sgt. Jesse Bollerud, "So what they're looking is for easy targets. People that they believe would have large amounts of cash, large amounts of jewelry, someone that they believe would be an easy victim." King County Prosecutors recently charged those two suspects arrested in the October incident, 21-year-old Iustinian Iamandita and 32-year-old Florin Vaduva with residential burglary.

Earlier this fall, three Pacific Island States – Vanuatu, Fiji, and Samoa – formally proposed adding ecocide as a crime that can be heard and punished by the International Criminal Court, which can currently try individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and the crime of aggression.Any change to the ICC's Rome Statute, particularly adding a new international crime, would require a massive level of diplomatic coordination and negotiation. But the future crime might hold individuals criminally accountable for severe environmental damage, such as massive oil or chemical spills or the destruction of rainforests. In the meantime, what does the ecocide proposal mean in practice? How might it potentially impact our understanding of ongoing destruction of the environment and the role of international criminal law? Joining the show to unpack the ecocide proposal are Naima Fifita, Rebecca Hamilton, and Kate Mackintosh.  Naima is a lawyer from Tuvalu. She is the Executive Director of the Institute for Climate and Peace. Bec is an Executive Editor at Just Security and a Professor of Law at American University. De Beer says a possible collapse of the GNU “is going to have to be something that will have to be discussed and I'm telling you right now, the DA, the Freedom Front, the IFP and all partners are absolutely also talking daily, in my opinion, about that scenario, which is the worst case.” De Beer also gives his take on President Cyril Ramaphosa's opening address to Parliament; former Intelligence Minister Lindiwe Sisulu's statement that basically everybody was bugged; as well as the growing threat of international criminal cartels which are “the kind of people that put heads on stakes and bodies on top of your house”.

The drumbeat of intervention is rolling once again for Haiti. Since last year, plans have been laid for a US-sponsored intervention in Haiti nominally led by Kenya, ostensibly in the name of fighting "gang violence" in the Caribbean nation. While corporate media has breathlessly pushed the narrative of a lawless Haiti overrun by criminal organizations, such framing deliberately excludes the role of the US and its allies in the so-called Core Group in destabilizing Haiti over the past 20 years in particular—not to mention the past two centuries since Haiti's independence. Quebec-based activist Jafrik Ayiti joins The Real News to help set the record straight on Haiti's history, and how the social disorder splattered across the front pages of Western media outlets has been manufactured by the very governments now calling for intervention.Studio Production: Maximillian AlvarezPost-Production: Alina NehlichHelp us continue producing radically independent news and in-depth analysis by following us and becoming a monthly sustainer.Sign up for our newsletterLike us on FacebookFollow us on TwitterDonate to support this podcastBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-real-news-podcast--2952221/support.

Like many of its fans, I found this podcast by recommendation from the Morbid podcast, who like me, is a big fan. The true treasure of this pod is its host Valeira Drake who is also a St.Louis based actor and dancer! She is so funny and charming and I love her voice. Some don't care for her tangents but I think they are hilarious and make the show. She's just saying what we're all thinking. I even named my monstera plant after her. So there hasn't been an episode in a while since May of 2023 actually but Valeria has mentioned on the show before about depression. Let's just be hopeful and supportive and maybe another episode will bless our feeds soon. There are episodes to burn through though! 43 in fact and I binged all of them in a couple of days. Most are about crimes. There are few disappearances, the rare spooky episodes, and even rarer still a survival story. My favorites are Episode 33: Deadly Cruise Ships: The Disappearance of Tammy Grogan, and Episode 12: Guatemala: Rodrigo Rosenberg although there are too many to name. Usually each episode has a great instagram post with it. When the show was really active they came out once a week. True Crime Tuesday presents Chasing Shadows:  A True Story of Drugs, War, and International Crime with Journalist/Author Miles Johnson Jack Kelly, a veteran US Drug Enforcement Administration agent, tasked with following a trail of dirty money across continents from a top-secret investigative unit based in Virginia. Salvatore Pititto is an ambitious Mafia capo working on a vast cocaine shipment who becomes unexpectedly pulled into an arms-smuggling conspiracy. Mustafa Badreddine is a ghost-like master terrorist wanted by governments across the world who has been secretly dispatched to Syria for his final mission. Each man, born in radically different circumstances in the 1960s, is in his own way grappling with the powerful and unstoppable forces that shape the world around us; forces which topple governments, send refugees fleeing across borders, and put guns in the hands of mercenaries and militias. The culture war has shifted its attention to an old evil: Slavery. While we start by navigating some of the responses, the conversation quickly turns to what we think about terms like RELIGION and MORALITY. The accusation that The Sound of Freedom is a religious thriller tells more about the accuser than the film when we look at what that implies. But when a population raises its awareness to a horrible evil, it does not necessarily translate into an equivalent response, instead creating a whiplash effect from moral outrage to moral outrage, ultimately resulting in a state of demoralization. Those aware leave with only the tension between their awareness of evil, and a feeling of incapability. But we have a response to the global decentralized network that is Human Trafficking, and in this case, it is to pay attention to what you are responsible over. Support the REDACTED Culture Cast at redactedculture.locals.comSSP and boutique products at redactedllc.comFollow us on Instagram at @redactedllc

Nic Cage has to team-up with his partner "Dead Meat" and a 16 year old bullied teenager to take down a team of bank-robbing mercenaries that have a combined IQ of DUUUUMMMMBBBB. Here comes the idiot plot. Yes its a DTV Nic Cage movie. You probably know what you're getting into with this. Is it his worst? No. Is it fun? Well.....If you like the idiot plot (all drivers of the plot must be total morons or the movie doesn't happen) then yes. You'll like this. Is it the movie we wanted to see out of this premise? Nope. The thing is that the heisting aspect and subsequent danger our protagonists are put into is so incredibly trite and somewhat uninteresting that 3/4 of the movie is checkout time. We've seen it all before. Guys go into building, take hostages, unprepared police find a way to take them down. What is different is that the villains are absolute idiots. Their entire plan appears to have hinged on illegal parking.  "Oh no, we've lost our parking space. What do we do?!?!" "Only thing we can do. Kill the hostages and then walk out the front door into a hail of bullets." "Good thing we put you in charge because my plan was to try to use leverage to get a chopper or even just go out the back of the building. Man, am I stupid." Its really hard to root for the good guys here because the bad guys are so completely worthless. Which completely takes you out of the movie and leaves you wishing you'd just watched Kenny go on a ride-along and find a new father figure who takes care of that bully problem. This is a don't bother.

Stephen King called international crime writer Michael Robotham an “absolute master” so it's no surprise that he's sold millions of books all around the world. His first thriller, The Suspect, was snapped up in more than twenty countries in just three hours and the superlatives have kept on rolling in ever since. Hi there, I'm your host Jenny Wheeler, and today Michael talks about his latest book, When She Was Good, and expands on that remarkable career, first as a journalist, then as a ghost writer, and now as an award-winning bestselling novelist. Six things you'll learn from this Joys of Binge Reading episode: Michael's remarkable beginning in journalismTen years of ghost writing in preparationBidding war on debut novel The SuspectThe Secrets She Keeps - the story behind the TV seriesHow Sept 11 changed everythingWhy he's still a 'newbie after 15 novels Where to find Michael Robotham:  Website: https://www.michaelrobotham.com/ Facebook: @MichaelRobothamAU  Twitter: @michaelrobotham What follows is a "near as" transcript of our conversation, not word for word but pretty close to it, with links to important mentions. But now, here's Michael. Jenny Wheeler: Hello Michael, and welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Michael Robotham: Thanks Jenny. Introducing Michael Robotham Jenny Wheeler: You grew up in rural Australia, in country towns, and I've read online a funny little quip where you said there were more dogs than people and more flies than dogs in the places you grew up in. Then you went straight into talking your way into a cadetship on a Sydney daily. When you went there for that job interview, had you ever been to Sydney before? Michael Robotham - international best seller Michael Robotham: No. I had to come down to Sydney six times and catch what was then the North Coast mail train, which was an overnight train that took twelve hours to get from my hometown to Sydney. I was seventeen when I first caught that train overnight and went for my first job interview. I had never been in a building over three stories high and I had never been in a lift before by myself. I don't think I'd been in a lift with anyone else either. When I got to the Fairfax building, who were the publishers of the Sydney Morning Herald and the Sun, I stood outside the lift and I didn't go inside the lift because I wasn't sure how to work it and I wanted someone else to get in and I'd follow them. I didn't know whether you had to shut the doors yourself, it terrified me. These security guards, I could see them laughing, wondering when this hay seed is going to get into the lift. But I did. I waited for someone else to get in, and that was my very first job interview. Getting started in Sydney There were 6,000 applicants for 12, I can't remember if it was 12 or 18 positions. Journalism had become a very sexy profession ever since Woodward and Bernstein broke Watergate. I was very lucky to get one of those cadetships and one of my fellow cadets was Geraldine Brooks who went on to be a Pulitzer Prize winning author and a very famous journalist as well. Jenny Wheeler: How did you manage to walk your way in there? What did you have on your side? Michael Robotham: I don't know. You had to go through a whole series of interviews which involved doing a current affairs test and general knowledge tests and writing essays and that narrowed the field down. But when I went for my final interview with the editor, I'd pretty much been told I hadn't got the job because there had been people who had been applying for years and narrowly missed out, and it was their turn. Before I went into the final interview, the guy who was coordinator said listen, you've done incredibly well to get this far. Don't be disheartened, try again next year, but you're not going to be one of my recommendations. So I went into the interview not nervous at all because I thought, well,

South African Airways (SAA) says it believes that it had in the past been infiltrated by an international crime syndicate which looted hundreds of millions of rands through corrupt tenders in the procurement of aircraft parts. SAA says some of this dates as far back as 2015/ 2016 . The airline says it has launched an investigation to look into whether it had been supplied with dodgy parts that failed to meet industry standards. We spoke to Aviation Expert and SA Flyer Magazine Managing Editor Guy Leitch. We also spoke to Numsa's National Spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi- Majola regarding SAA managing to interdict the planned strike by Air Chefs staff members.
