Hi, everyone and welcome to my solo podcast today. It's almost the New Year and I thought it was a good time to take some questions and have a conversation around lifestyle; self-care, relationships, work, parenting, finding purpose and some of the points that touch us on a daily basis. I did take a few questions, but in an attempt to never tell anyone what to do (don't tell my children) I do my best to share how it's going for me but feel strongly that we all have our own best answer within ourselves. Who knows, maybe there is a takeaway that sparks your own investigation into what will be the best strategy for wherever you are at. Sending you wishes of health and love now, and in the New Year. Seems like a good time (regardless of our differences) to COME TOGETHER. Enjoy. The Gabby Reece Show talks to top experts with the goal of extracting the best information you will need to navigate the universe of health, fitness, relationships, parenting, and business. Gabby keeps it simple but gets to the heart of the conversation with the hopes of providing you with realistic takeaways. Gabrielle Reece is not only a volleyball legend, but an inspirational leader, New York Times bestselling author, wife, and mother. She is Nike’s first female spokeswoman and the Co-Founder of XPT and Executive Member of Laird Superfood. Gabby shares how volleyball saved her, what it was like growing up on an island with nothing to do, and the lessons she’s learned as a parent. Key Takeaways Gabby shares a bit about her story and what it was like growing up in the Virgin Islands. There was nothing for Gabby to do growing up on the island. It was a small town built on tourism. She was going nowhere really fast. Why is religion and spirituality so important for Gabby? How did Gabby get into volleyball? It was a very rough start for her at first. People can be good at something, but that doesn’t make you a champion. Where does Gabby’s humility and gratefulness come from? Is that an island mentality? We are built to be in nature. When we grow up in an urban environment, we substitute our natural instincts with materialism. We have to hunt for more stuff/stimulus to fill a space within us. Gabby’s daughter lives in a bubble, but to be fair, she put her in that bubble. Gabby doesn’t have the parenting thing quite figured out yet, but she knows it’s important to lead by example and to really listen to them even if you think their issues might be trivial. JR wants his daughter to grow up strong, but she can be a sensitive kid at times and he worries that the world won’t wait for her to be ready. Volleyball saved Gabby. She got the best mentors out of playing that support. It helped her develop self-care and discipline. Athletes put a lot of their identity on their accomplishments, but when their career is over, they don’t take the time to evolve themselves beyond that. So much of life is a formula. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and just do what you need to do, you’ll get there. Gabby talks about XPT and why most of us are breathing wrong. Gabby shares her diet and what her family prefers to eat. What advice would Gabby like to give her younger self? Episode 43: How to Live, Love and Lead with Gabby Reece “No matter how often you are defeated, you are born to victory.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson Welcome to Win the Day with James Whittaker! If this is your first time here, we sit down with some of the world’s true legends to help YOU take ownership of your financial, physical and mental health. And our guest today is the perfect intersection of those three areas. Gabby Reece is a fitness icon, entrepreneur, keynote speaker, mum, wife, host of The Gabby Reece Show, and a New York Times bestselling author. She’s been featured on Dr Oz, The Today Show, and the Joe Rogan podcast, and was the first female spokeswoman for Nike. In September 2020, Gabby and her husband — big wave surfer Laird Hamilton — listed their plant-based food company Laird Superfood on the New York Stock Exchange, just five years after they launched it. Gabby and Laird are also the founders of Extreme Performance Training (known as XPT), designed to stimulate growth in ALL aspects of human performance through exposure to a variety of natural elements and environments. Essentially, they kick your ass through breath optimization, functional movement, and recovery techniques like ice baths and hot saunas. Like all of us, Gabby’s journey has had its ups and downs, which we’ll get into — but what I love most about her is her hunger to gain new perspectives, while keeping it real at the same time. In this interview with Gabby, we’re going to talk about: Tips for peak performance in 2021 and beyond; Gabby’s advice for healthy relationships with your children and your spouse; How to unlock your motivation each day; and How you can find peace in an increasingly crazy world.
