Nav te neviena, kas to novērtētu. Uzsaukt: Bom Caminho! Un ja nu man apniks? Sauksim to par Tezē, jo tur es to piedzīvoju pirmoreiz.

In today's episode, Nicole Ryf (President of KABA); shares her passion for inspiring economic growth in her community. Nicole has over twenty years of experience with economic growth. She is from Wisconsin (GO PACK GO!) but worked in Texas & Virginia, all on economic growth. She was recruited back to WI in 2022. She has been leading KABA since July 2023. Inspiring economic growth is a team sport. Everyone has to come together and support the vision of a local leadership group like KABA. It takes many people, each with a unique talent, to help a community be successful. Nicole shares what she learned in those positions early in her career and the importance of mentorship. She is extremely vulnerable when sharing where she has made mistakes but has had great leadership support her in learning from them. Leadership is a lot of things, but one thing it is not cute!

The Hidden Economics of Remarkable Women is back for a very special seventh season. If you're a longtime listener, you'll know our show generally focuses on women from the global majority, or the global south. But this time, we wanted to cover the banks and institutions shaping global funding—particularly as the world faces an unprecedented amount of governmental debt. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), global public debt is expected to top $100 trillion by the end of this year, its highest level ever. Many countries are facing painful choices about how to spend fewer resources, including on programs critical to women and girls. We recorded most of our interviews at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in late October, right before the U.S. presidential election. Here, financial leaders decide how to spend billions of dollars on top development priorities, such as poverty reduction, climate change, and gender equality. We'll try to answer some big questions this season: How are countries and multilateral institutions grappling with so much government debt? What are they doing to prepare for the new U.S. administration? And how is all this impacting the fight for gender equality? For the season premiere, we wanted to start by looking at what has worked in the past. We talk to two incredible women who have both been finance ministers and leaders at multilateral institutions about how they have advanced women and girls economically. Guests and organizations: Christine Lagarde, the president of the European Central Bank and the former head of the IMF Malado Kaba, the former head of gender at the African Development Bank and current managing director of Falémé Conseil First, host Reena Ninan speaks with Christine Lagarde, the president of the European Central Bank, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, and former finance minister of France. She is the first woman ever to hold any of these roles. Lagarde was also named by Forbes as the No. 2 most powerful woman in the world last year. Special thanks to our media partner for this season, the Atlantic Council. They hosted Lagarde at an event during the IMF and World Bank meetings right before our interview. Then, Reena interviews Malado Kaba, the former director of the Gender, Women, and Civil Society Department of the African Development Bank. She was also the first ever female finance and economy minister for the Republic of Guinea. Kaba is currently the managing director of Falémé Conseil, a consultancy firm focused on African economic growth. The Hidden Economics of Remarkable Women is a podcast from Foreign Policy, supported in part this season by the Gates Foundation, Northwestern University's Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, and the Atlantic Council. This week, a jury found Sergeant Martyn Blake, a Metropolitan police armed officer, not guilty of the murder of Chris Kaba. Kaba had been shot after police pulled over the car he was driving, which had been linked to a shooting incident. After the verdict, information has been released about Kaba's criminal record and suspected involvement in a gun crime in Hackney. The fallout has asked severe questions of our legal system. Do police officers require more legal protection to do their jobs properly? Are juries too quick to protect emergency services workers? Why was Kaba's criminal record not submitted as evidence? And are the tabloids over-reacting to this week's disclosures? Nicholas Mostyn and Charlie Falconer look the case over before Helena Kennedy joins to give the criminal lawyer's perspective. ➡️JOIN THE STRUGGLE + BECOME A MEMBER OF THE HARAMBEE ORGANISATION OF BLACK UNITY (HOBU): https://www.blackunity.org.uk/membership In this week's Black Political Rant, Kehinde (@Kehinde_Andrews) discusses how we understand Monday's not-guilty verdict of Sgt. Martyn Blake's trial, a White MET police marksman who killed an unarmed Black man, Chris Kaba in 2022. Kehinde links this to other cases of Black men killed by the police, to-date UK stats on police killings of Black people; and the relevance of Malcolm's concept of "The Negro" that's still with us today. He makes plain that the racism of the police is the racism of the society. The police are as racist as the society allows them to be. We have the police force that society wants. The police, police with the consent of the racist society. The fears, prejudices, negative criminal stereotypical assessments, hallucinations, and "perceptual distortions" of the police are all features of the psychosis of Whiteness, a global phenomenon, that leads to our deaths. In this week's Interview Kehinde talks with award-winning Sylvia Arthur (LOATAD founder) and Seth Avusuglo (LOATAD manager) from the Library Of Africa and The African Diaspora Archive. They discuss the origin, mission, and development of LOATAD, the difficulty of getting Black books on the continent, the writing residencies + more. The Library Of Africa and The African Diaspora (LOATAD) is a decolonizing private library, archive, writing residency, research institute, and museum dedicated to the work of Afrikan and Diaspora writers from the late 19th century to the present day. Based in Accra, Ghana, it was founded by Sylvia Arthur in 2017 using 1300 of her own books. LOATAD's current collection contains around 4000 books by writers from 41 of Africa's 54 countries and Black authors from the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, and around the world. LOATAD's mission: to celebrate and champion Africa's rarely acknowledged contribution to the global literary canon.
