The ForceCast is BACK!This week, Ryan and Brad discuss the series finale and final arc of Andor. The lead-in to Rogue One, Luthen's fate, Cassian's drive, and so much more! Tune in as we say goodbye to this wonderful show!
Phillip and Eric are exploiting the algorithm this week by talking Star Wars while it's still hot, but not the Star Wars anyone expected. They're going over the obscure comic Dark Empire by Tom Veitch and Cam Kennedy, set after Return of the Jedi featuring a resurrected Palpatine when it was still original. They talk about its trippy art and color scheme by Cam Kennedy, its lackluster writing and pacing by comparison, and their shared hatred of The Rise of Skywalker and toxic Star Wars fans who hate The Last Jedi.
Real Life Devon went full medieval this week with a trip to a Renaissance Fair—this one featuring permanent structures that actually looked “authentic” instead of slapped together by ye olde hot glue. There were swinging rides, wooden horses, and some legit jousting. Unfortunately, the real fantasy was thinking the kids would have fun. Big downer energy. Steven is gearing up for an Arizona trip but had to make a sudden detour into Best Buy territory after his TV gave up the ghost. On the plus side, Andor continues to be amazing and makes up for any consumer electronics woes. (It really is still that good.) Ben has seen Labyrinth (have you?), and he's here for the dream logic and David Bowie's entire vibe. Also thrown into the cinematic blender: The Island and Cliffhanger. We're now seeking out more films where geological or man-made features are basically the co-stars. Let us know if you have one. Oh, and Ben also saw the Slate all-electric pickup truck, which looked like something out of Black Mirror. Meanwhile, TVs just… work now? What a time to be alive. Future or Now Time for some spicy Star Wars takes. We got into it over which trilogy was better: the Prequels or the Sequels. Episode IX (The Rise of Skywalker) got roasted—Devon called it "the worst." Ben leaned sequel-side, arguing they're better than the prequels overall. The breakdown went something like: Prequels: bad films, good plots Sequels: good films, bad plots There were also complaints about Starkiller Base, which feels like someone said “What if Death Star, but more?” But then there's Andor, which everyone agrees is just pure excellence. So Star Wars can still be good when they let writers write. Our rankings for maximum judgment: Devon's list: The Phantom Menace, The Force Awakens, Rise of Skywalker, Attack of the Clones, The Last Jedi, Revenge of the Sith Ben's list: Rise of Skywalker, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi Your move, Internet.

Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast
ANDOR Season 2 is just around the corner! But where did we leave off with Cassian and friends in Season 1? After all, it was 3 years ago. What really happened between ISB agent Dedra Meero and Imperial wanna-be Syril Karn? How was Maarva Andor weaponized? If you don't remember, we are here to remind and prepare you for this new season that premieres on Disney+ on April 22nd. There is lots to go over especially how ANDOR crosses over with STAR WARS REBELS. We also look back at our roundtable interviews with Production Designer Luke Hull and Costume Designer Michael Wilkinson to see how their creations will add to the storytelling of ANDOR Season 2. Today in Star Wars History 4/15/1963 Happy 63rd Birthday to Tom Kane! Tom Kane voiced hundreds of animated characters in dozens of series. To Star Wars fans he is Yoda and Admiral Yularen in The Clone Wars and did the opening newsreel narration for each episode. He also voiced Admiral Ackbar in The Last Jedi and Star Tours. Unfortunately Tom Kane had to retire from voice acting in 2020 after a stroke. SPONSORS Small World Vacations is an official sponsor of Skywalking Through Neverland. The Last Jedi was 8 years ago, and the media is still calling Star Wars fans "racists" because of Kelly Marie Tran, John Boyega and The Acolyte (like, all of it.) The media and Lucasfilm are using Kelly Marie Tran and John Boyega as scapegoats to push a false narrative that Star Wars fans are racist, despite the vast majority being unfairly vilified. Hollywood and the media are weaponizing identities and blaming fans for their own stupidity and dumb choices, rather than taking responsibility for failures like those of Lucasfilm and Marvel. The entertainment industry's constant attacks on fans and their personal opinions are tanking movies and shows because people anticipate "one of those things" pushing an agenda. The media and entertainment industry are regressing to the 1950s by constantly shoving identity politics and agendas down people's throats, unfairly labeling Star Wars fans as racist. The industry's need to change characters and stories to reflect actors' personal identities is ruining movies and shows by prioritizing actors' lives over storytelling. Kelly Marie Tran's attempt to tie her new movie to the Star Wars controversy is deemed ridiculous and attention-seeking, as nobody cares about her new project. The entertainment industry's actions are making people mad at each other and hating unfairly when they didn't before, creating unnecessary division among fans. Diversity and inclusion are being used as tools to push agendas and vilify certain groups, symptomatic of a larger problem in Hollywood and the media.

Hey listeners! Jeff here. We're taking a little break so Dan can deal with some personal family matters. We'll be back soon—but in the meantime, we thought you might enjoy a flashback. This month's offering is a replay of our first episode from way back in November 2017. The Last Jedi topped the box office, Wonder by R.J. Palacio was the best-selling book of the year, and “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran dominated the Billboard Charts. It was a simpler time, listeners. Allow Dan and I to take you to the way-back-when, if only for an hour. It's time. Barter for a rock hammer, pin up your poster of Rita Hayworth, and prepare to inspire hope in your fellow inmates. This is a replay of The Hero's Journey of The Shawshank Redemption. The Hero's Journey℠ Podcast is a fun, insightful look at stories through the lens of Joseph Campbell's world-renowned mythological framework, hosted by writers/BFFs Jeff Garvin and Dan Zarzana. Hyperspace. Velocity. Infinity. Punch it Chewie! These are the dimensions that power the very heartbeat of Star Wars travel throughout the galaxy and even beyond its limits. From the ancient breakthrough credited to the Rakatans to the perilous routes charted by fearless explorers in the Tales of the Jedi, hyperspace isn't merely a method of travel—it's the lifeblood of adventure and the arena for danger. How did this cosmic pathway come to be, and what secrets lie in its swirling depths? Is it simply a technological marvel, or does it harbor the capacity to transform empires and shatter destinies in a single, breathtaking hyperspeed jump?In our discussion today on Unlock the Knowledge, Today, we dive into the origins and evolution of hyperspace: its creation by the enigmatic Rakatans, the treacherous journeys that forged legends, and the mind-blowing ways it's been weaponized—from hyperspace destruction that kills trillions of lives in the High Republic, From colossal hyperspeed missiles used in the Dark Empire series, and to the chaotic maneuvers that are extremely polarizing to bring up in The Last Jedi. And even some of the most horrifying dimensions that could trap you into an alternate dimension of Hyperspace that you'd never know existed if it wasn't for this podcast. By the end of this discussion, you'll decide: is hyperspace the ultimate tool of progress and peril, or just another carefully crafted myth that shouldn't be completely explained to fuel our love for the science fantasy we call Star Wars. Im ready for the knowledge fam are you? Hello! Today on the show Kieran, Paul and I have a focused chat on the Holdo maneuver sequence from Rian Johnson's 'The Last Jedi'. It's a scene we were all big fans of when the film came out and remain so today, and there was a lot to chew on with this (one) perfect scene. Expect talk on the career of Laura Dern too!
Thanks for tuning in, spacefarers!

The ForceCast is BACK!!This week, Ryan and Brad play catchup with all the Star Wars casting news and rumors. Ryan Gosling? Natalie Portman? Is Rey still happening? Plus, where is the Halcyon headed next and more!
The Last Jedi, despite being a massive financial success, has been highly divisive since its release in December 2017. Sure, there are those who love and defend it, especially for its willingness to subvert expectations. Its detractors, though, often cite The Last Jedi's nonsensical plot and less than favorable depiction of beloved Star Wars hero Luke Skywalker for why they hate it. The pod tends to lean toward the latter. For all its exceptional visuals and some genuinely great Star Wars moments, The Last Jedi often feels like a muddled mess—less a sequel to a $2 billion movie, more a piece of odd fan fiction. Hence the divide between fans. As the middle part of a trilogy, The Last Jedi too often throws away or outright dismisses plot threads from The Force Awakens. When there was still a film to follow it, perhaps writing the characters into a narrative corner wasn't the best idea. By feeling more like optional homework than obligatory viewing, The Marvels falls into a familiar trap of the Phase 4 and 5 MCU films. And it fails to up the ante for its main heroine from her first solo outing. There is certainly more to juggle here—adding in both Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau—but The Marvels fails to find the right balance. The titular three are charming and have decent chemistry. The villain, however, is one of the most paper thin ever produced by the Marvel movie machine. As for the plot, what little there is, it just feels like a retread of better films. Another issue The Marvels shares with some its more recent MCU counterparts is an abundance of cheap looking effects. For a movie with a budget north of $250 million, it looks more like a hastily produced Disney+ show. None of this should've been enough for it to tank as badly as it did, earning just 20% of the first's gross; but it is indicative of the larger MCU issue: too much, too often, too little quality control. Now, sit back, swap places with a Juiced to Jupiter from Fat Head's Brewery, and warm up those pipes for Aladna! The Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Chumpzilla, Capt. I liked The Skeleton Crew. I feel it was a light hearted show that many kids would have enjoyed, and something George Lucas would have endorsed. It had some good lessons for the youth in regards to fighting for your family, inner strength, not trusting everyone, and dreaming big. I think a season 2 would be nice. It did not destroy anything like the Acolyte or The Last Jedi, and for that, it at least is a step in the right direction...many more steps to take from here. Learn more about your ad choices. In this week's episode of Born to Watch, Whitey and Damo tackle one of the most polarising blockbusters in cinematic history—Star Wars: The Last Jedi. You've heard it before: The Last Jedi either reignited the saga with bold creativity or sent it careening off a cliff into a galaxy far, far away from anything recognisable. For Whitey and Damo, it's the latter, and they aren't afraid to say it. If you're tuning in for a spirited debate, prepare for a critical breakdown of what went wrong in the eighth chapter of this iconic franchise in they're The Last Jedi Review.A Bold Direction, But At What Cost? There's no denying that director Rian Johnson set out to craft something new. From the opening moments, it's clear that The Last Jedi wants to subvert expectations. But sometimes, as Whitey and Damo point out, subversion isn't enough. It's one thing to challenge the audience and twist the familiar beats of a beloved saga, but The Last Jedi feels like it's actively rebelling against its own DNA.Despite its criticisms, The Force Awakens almost worked because it carefully balanced nostalgia with new storylines. It honoured the past while paving the way for new heroes; if honouring is completely copying the original movie, then it did an exceptional job. Johnson, however, appears to toss all of that aside in The Last Jedi. Characters you thought would be key players are sidelined. Moments that seem set up for major payoffs are ignored or reinterpreted in ways that feel detached from the series' core.Whitey and Damo's frustration comes down to one fundamental gripe: legacy. The Last Jedi isn't just telling a new story—it feels like it's actively undoing everything that came before it. The legacy characters—Luke, Leia, and even Han, by extension—are treated in ways that left fans scratching their heads. “Why bother bringing them back at all if you're just going to dismantle their arcs?” asks Whitey, echoing a sentiment that has been brewing since the film's release. The Luke Skywalker DilemmaOne of the biggest sore spots for fans (and for Whitey and Damo) is the treatment of Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill famously voiced his concerns over Johnson's interpretation of Luke, and many fans, including our podcast duo, couldn't agree more. Gone is the hopeful, idealistic Jedi we last saw in Return of the Jedi, replaced by a brooding hermit who has cut himself off from the Force.Character evolution is important, and no one expects Luke to remain static. But The Last Jedi doesn't show us how Luke got to this point—it simply drops us into a version of him that feels unfamiliar and alien. Whitey and Damo argue that there's a difference between developing a character and fundamentally altering them. The Luke in The Last Jedi is so far removed from the original trilogy's hero that it's hard to connect with him on an emotional level.Wasted PotentialAnother major issue that Whitey and Damo have with The Last Jedi is its handling of certain story arcs set up in The Force Awakens. Love or hate J.J. Abrams' mystery box approach established several intriguing threads: Who are Rey's parents? What's the deal with Supreme Leader Snoke? Will Finn's stormtrooper past play a bigger role? Instead of building on these mysteries, Johnson seems to sweep them aside entirely.Without diving too deeply into spoiler territory, let's say that the answers (or lack thereof) are underwhelming at best. Rey's parentage? A twist that feels less like a revelation and more like a dismissal of everything The Force Awakens set up. Snoke? Well, let's just say his story ends abruptly, leaving many wondering why he was even introduced in the first place. Finn? Regrettably reduced to a side plot that feels more like filler than a meaningful continuation of his arc.Whitey and Damo can't help but feel that The Last Jedi wastes its potential. It introduces interesting ideas—new Force powers, morally grey dilemmas—but fails to develop them satisfactorily. Instead, we're left with a film that feels disjointed, unsure of whether it wants to be a part of the larger Star Wars saga or stand apart as something entirely different. The Bright Spots - The VisualsIt's not all doom and gloom, though. Even Whitey and Damo admit that The Last Jedi excels in some areas. Visually, the film is stunning. Johnson and his cinematographer, Steve Yedlin, deliver breathtaking set pieces from the salt plains of Crait to the lush greenery of Ahch-To. The film's colour palette is rich and vibrant, and the space battles are as thrilling as ever.A Divided FanbasePerhaps the most lasting impact of The Last Jedi is the rift it created within the Star Wars community. Fans are still arguing about it to this day, and while some appreciate Johnson's bold approach, others—like Whitey and Damo—see it as a betrayal of what made Star Wars special in the first place. The guys make an interesting point: The Last Jedi isn't a bad movie in a vacuum. It's well-directed, well-acted, and technically impressive. But as a chapter in the Star Wars saga, it falls short. It disconnects from the past in ways that feel disrespectful rather than innovative. And that's where the disappointment lies.Final ThoughtsIn the end, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a film that tries to do something different. For some, that boldness was refreshing. For Whitey and Damo, it was a misstep—a film that lost sight of what makes Star Wars timeless. As always, they bring their trademark humour and honesty to the discussion, making for an entertaining listen whether you agree with them or not.So, if you're a fan of heated debates and unapologetic opinions, don't miss this week's episode of Born to Watch. Whether you loved or loathed The Last Jedi, one thing's for sure: Whitey and Damo aren't afraid to tell it like it is.Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcasthttps://www.borntowatch.com.au/#BornToWatch #TheLastJedi #StarWarsDebate #WhiteyAndDamoUnfiltered #LegacyMatters #SubversionGoneWrong #LetThePastDie #BornToCritique #PodcastLife #SciFiFrustration

It's the seventh anniversary of the release of The Last Jedi, and with a little distance from the discourse, the evidence is clear - by box office dollars, ticket sales, DVD sales, critics ratings, and audience surveys, TLJ is one of the most successful Star Wars movies of all time. And that's even when you consider the kind of storytelling corner Rian Johnson was backed into by J.J. Abrams and The Force Awakens. We'll talk about those measures, the movie itself, and the moment it got caught up in that has tainted honest discussion of the movie. We'll also touch on the current United HealthCare situation, the Iraq War, the Howard Stern autobiography, Battlestar Galactica, and more. Punch it! Enjoy the show? Host Doug Stuart sits down with renowned film critic and author Abby Olcese to explore the intricate intersections of film, faith, and the liturgical calendar. Abby's new book, Film for All Seasons: Experiencing the Church Year at the Movies, forms the crux of this stimulating discussion, inviting listeners to see movies as more than mere entertainment but as avenues for spiritual and cultural introspection. The conversation begins with a delightful nod to the upcoming Paddington 3, encouraging listeners to revisit the first two charming installments. Abby then introduces Joyeux Noel, bringing a poignant cinematic portrayal of the World War I Christmas truce into the fold. This sets the stage for a deeper dive into the themes of Lent, where Abby explains her thoughtful selection of films like "Annihilation" and "Groundhog Day" to navigate through themes of mortality, repentance, and self-awareness.As Doug shares his fascination with liturgical rhythms and their underappreciation in American low church traditions, Abby enriches the dialogue with insights from her church background, reflecting influences from her time as an Episcopal ministry intern. They bond over the transformative power of films such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Fast and Furious 6 in embodying ecclesiastical themes of diversity and unity, particularly resonating with the spirit of Pentecost.Exploring the evolving landscape of film criticism, Abby passionately argues for the importance of historical context in understanding movies. A robust discussion unfolds around how classic films like Top Gun and Night of the Hunter reflect societal attitudes of their times, paralleling her views on the lasting influence of well-crafted narratives. The show takes an intriguing turn as Doug and Abby delve into contemporary television's shift towards streaming, critiquing the impact of immediate performance metrics on long-form storytelling. They appreciate the quality and richness of limited series on platforms like Apple TV, using Blackbird and Bad Monkey as exemplary cases.Abby's narratives come full circle as she illustrates how films can serve as spiritual reflections for themes churches might miss, inspiring hope, love, and inclusivity. This episode is a treasure trove for listeners, whether cinephiles, faith-seekers, or both, offering unique perspectives on how movies like Paddington, The Last Jedi, and The Bishop's Wife can enrich one's spiritual journey.Audio Production by Podsworth Media - https://podsworth.com ★ Support this podcast ★
