Doug Reynolds thought he was bulletproof until his running career collapsed under mysterious weight gain and joint pain. Three weeks studying ketones changed everything—launching Low Carb USA and the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners. What emerged wasn't just conferences but sanctuary for practitioners facing hostility from colleagues who resist dietary intervention. Reynolds breaks conventional barriers: speakers scatter among attendees, forging relationships that span the country. After a three-year battle, the Society now offers ACCME-accredited continuing education credits, legitimizing metabolic medicine. January 23-25, 2026 conference at lowcarbusa.org. Doug Reynolds and Pam Devine When Pam Devine turned 47 she was super excited that she had found something that helped her to lose the weight that she had put on since turning 40. Up until that point no matter what she did she couldn't lose it. Pam felt she worked out more than many of the people she encountered during her workday and was getting super frustrated with her failure to keep her weight under control. Once she and her partner Doug Reynolds found keto and changed their way of eating the weight dropped away and she found peace of mind, feeling totally satiated and more focused than she has ever been. Best yet, the ups and downs of blood sugar roller coaster have calmed and she feels like she found food freedom, lowering her growing anxiety of not knowing what to eat for health. Now with Doug, Pam hosts the Low Carb USA events that bring together medical professionals and experts in the low carb / keto / carnivore world to share their knowledge and the latest research with other health professionals and non-healthcare people. They are working towards halting the catastrophic rise in obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic diseases that we’ve seen since 1977. Pam is also one of the key Founding Members and Volunteers of The Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners. Doug Reynolds is the Founder and CEO of LowCarbUSA® and President of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners. LowCarbUSA (now called Symposium of Metabolic Health) provides a platform for internationally renowned scientists and medical practitioners to present the ever-increasing body of evidence on the benefits of reducing carbohydrates in the diet and adding in healthy fats. It has now evolved into one of the primary resources for the low carb community. This includes a huge library of educational videos, a growing database of practitioners and dietitians and sports trainers who are open to the carb restriction conversation as well as a searchable database for papers and articles covering the research into the evidence supporting this lifestyle. The SMHP is a non-profit for practitioners focused on metabolic health and they have a panel of advisors to oversee the creation and maintenance of a set of ‘Clinical Guidelines for Therapeutic Carbohydrate Restriction’ which was first published in May, 2019. The SMHP also defines numerous pathways for accreditation and the forums encourage open discussion which helps to establish Standard of Care around carbohydrate restriction. Ever been puzzled at the sight of a distance runner struggling with weight issues? Doug Reynolds, a former runner turned metabolic health expert, shares his personal tale of weight gain in his late 40s, and the transformative journey he embarked on as a result of a low-carb diet. His dedication to raising awareness of the benefits of a low-carb lifestyle gave birth to Low Carb USA.His goal was to let more people learn and understand low carb, so armed with his skill of conducting conferences, he put up the first Low Carb USA conference. From a crowd of 350 people, they now continue to gather thousands and provide an opportunity to learn from experts, share experiences, and become a part of an ever-growing community devoted to metabolic health. Even with a critical piece of information that could revolutionize the health of millions, challenge and resistance persist, yet they continue to push for greater recognition and understanding of metabolic health, even establishing a professional organization, the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners. The message is clear - when it comes to advocating for metabolic health, it's a team effort, and every voice, every effort counts. And with the right guidance and support, the transition to a low-carb diet can be a game-changer. Get to know our guestDour Reynolds is a pioneer of the low-carb continue. As the founder of Low Carb USA, his work has helped millions of people achieve better health and well-being."Because of this resistance from the majority of practitioners, what people need is support and a place to be to feel like they're safe. And after a while, I started to become aware of the fact that it was even more important for the practitioners to have something like that. So, for the doctors and the dieticians and other people in this medical space that are trying to do this, they are in the wilderness. [...] They just find it very lonely to practice like that. So now if we find a place to bring everybody together where no one is judging them and everyone is actually totally on board with what they're trying to do with their patients that's something that they really needed." - Doug ReynoldsConnect with himLow Carb USA: http://lowcarbusa.org/Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners: http://thesmhp.org/ Chances are, you wouldn't be listening to this podcast if you didn't need to change your life and get healthier. Malcolm Gladwell speaks of people like Doug Reynolds in his book "The Tipping Point". People who are connectors; ‘messengers' in essence. They see things about to happen that they believe are potentially life-changing. So they reach out to people of influence and let them know the significance of the social change as they perceives it. Pam Devine When Pam Devine turned 47 she was super excited that she had found something that helped her to lose the weight that she had put on since turning 40. Up until that point no matter what she did she couldn't lose it. Pam felt she worked out more than many of the people she encountered during her workday and was getting super frustrated with her failure to keep her weight under control. Once she and her partner Doug Reynolds found keto and change their way of eating the weight dropped away and she found peace of mind, feeling totally satiated and more focused than she has ever been. Best yet, the ups and downs of blood sugar roller coaster have calmed, and she feels like she found food freedom, lowering her growing anxiety of not knowing what to eat for health. Now with Doug, Pam hosts the Low Carb USA events that bring together medical professionals and experts in the low carb / keto / carnivore world to share their knowledge and the latest research with other health professionals and non healthcare people. They are working towards halting the catastrophic rise in obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic diseases that we've seen since 1977. Doug Reynolds Doug Reynolds is the Founder and CEO of LowCarbUSA® and President of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners. LowCarbUSA provides a platform for internationally renowned scientists and medical practitioners to present the ever-increasing body of evidence on the benefits of reducing carbohydrates in the diet and adding in healthy fats. The SMHP is a non-profit for practitioners focused on metabolic health and they have a panel of advisors to oversee the creation and maintenance of a set of 'Clinical Guidelines for Therapeutic Carbohydrate Restriction' which was first published in May, 2019. The SMHP also defines numerous pathways for accreditation and the forums encourage open discussion which helps to establish Standard of Care around carbohydrate restriction. Doug Reynolds is the Founder and CEO of LowCarbUSA® and President of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners. He was an endurance athlete and used to carb load for his races following the advice of Prof Tim Noakes and the standard advice. He was running 50 miles / 80Km a week and his weight was still increasing, then he found out about ketosis. Not only did the ketogenic diet transform his weight and health it also transformed the trajectory of his work. Doug's Top Tips Don't be afraid to try it. Community - find your tribe. Don't ever let peer pressure talk you out of it. Resources Mentioned Lore of Running - Tim Noakes MD https://amzn.to/3BtjDYm Please note: Dr Tim Noakes is re-writing this book and he no longer subscribes to carb loading. Quotes by Doug Reynolds “I used to feel like I was exquisitely fit.” “...that was Tim Noakes fault. As you know, Tim talked about how important carbohydrates were and this whole concept of carb loading before the race.” “I was literally poisoning myself with excessive carbohydrates.” “I remember we moved to a new place and I looked in the mirror and I thought ‘this mirror is bent because I don't look like that'. You know, I was in denial, I literally couldn't believe that I had actually started to fill out and become like a barrel almost.“ “I still remember the very first meal I ever cooked a couple of ribeye steaks. I went outside and cooked it on the fire and came back in and not only was there all this fat among the meat, which was absolutely unknown for me, but all this fat sloshing around on the bottom of the plate. I started giggling and was like ‘am I going to seriously eat this thing?” “I got like three quarters of the way through it. And I was like, wow, this actually tastes really good. Because now the minute the fats back in, you know, in the equation, suddenly everything tastes so much better. ” “How is it possible? I was 52 years old. And I didn't even know what a ketone was like six months ago. It's it's

A low carb diet with plenty of meat is important. We evolved because we ate meat. He and Vinnie met at Low Carb USA! High fiber is important to feed beef livestock - better for them, makes it better for us, too. WE NEED COWS Cows are not causing climate change. It's not even their farts that would. The UN put out a report that claimed livestock produced more emission than all transportation. What they DON'T acknowledge is that study is recognized as being flawed and its authors even retracted and corrected it. The reality is they make up about 2% of emissions. We DO need to get better at controlling how we raise our food. 1/32nd of an apple represents arable land on the world. 1/4th represents land that is good for grazing. MEAT MYTHS There are so many myths propagated by vegans about meat growth and consumption. "Raising cattle is a waste of water." Truth: Cows are not 'destroying' water - they recycle it. "Cows are ruining the land." Truth: Ruminant animals are incredibly important for our soil. They have evolved with the grasses. There wouldn't BE society like there is now without raising cows. "Red meat is bad for you." .Truth: Meat is GOOD for you Saturated fats and cholesterol are not bad for you! FAT DOC 2 IS AVAILABLE ON iTUNES and AMAZON Please also share it with family and friends! People conflate US and world states as well as various statistics. Ruminants are important for environmental health. HUNTING AND CONSERVATION These two can go hand in hand. High fiber is important to feed beef livestock - better for them, makes it better for us, too LIVESTOCK AND CLIMATE CHANGE Cows are not causing climate change It's not even their farts that would The UN put out a report that claimed livestock produced more emission than all transportation What they DON'T acknowledge is that study is recognized as being flawed and its authors even retracted and corrected it The reality is they make up about 2% of emissions We DO need to get better at controlling how we raise our food 1/32nd of an apple represents arable land on the world 1/4th represents land that is good for grazing MEAT MYTHS There are so many myths propagated by vegans about meat growth and consumption "Raising cattle is a waste of water" Truth: Cows are not 'destroying' water - they recycle it "Cows are ruining the land" Truth: Ruminant animals are incredibly important for our soil They have evolved with the grasses There wouldn't BE society like there is now without raising cows "Red meat is bad for you" Truth: Meat is GOOD for you Saturated fats and cholesterol is not bad for you!
