O prof. [IMAGE=https://revistatrip.uol.com.br/upload/2023/09/6517525d0e87a/eduardo-schenberg-neurocientista-tripfm-mh.jpg; CREDITS=; LEGEND=; ALT_TEXT=] Trip FM. Ele modifica nosso ritmo, a gente desconecta do nascer e do pôr do sol, desconecta do claro e do escuro.
Nick talks to Gül Dölen, MD, PhD, a neuroscientist at Johns Hopkins University whose lab studies social behavior, synaptic plasticity, psychedelics & evolution. They discuss: What drugs like LSD, psilocybin, ketamine, MDMA, and ibogaine have in common in terms of their molecular effects in the brain; why Dr. Gül Dölen believes all of these drugs can be described as "psychedelics"; the relationship between psychedelics and neuroplasticity vs. metaplasticity; how addictive drugs are similar to and different from psychedelics; social reward learning in rodents & critical periods of plasticity; the subjective effects of psychedelics; novel psychedelic drug development; human social behavior, mental health, and psychiatry; and more.Check out my previous discussion with Gül Dölen for important background information: https://mindandmatter.substack.com/p/gul-dolen-social-cognition-and-learning?utm_source=%2Fsearch%2Fgul%2520dolen&utm_medium=reader2#detailsSupport the showSign up for the free weekly Mind & Matter newsletter:[https://mindandmatter.substack.com/?sort=top]Learn how you can further support the podcast: [https://mindandmatter.substack.com/p/how-to-support-mind-and-matter]Become a Premium Subscriber to access full content library, including full premium episodes:[https://mindandmatter.substack.com/subscribe?utm_source=menu&simple=true&next=https%3A%2F%2Fmindandmatter.substack.com%2F]Try the Lumen device to optimize your metabolism for weight loss or athletic performance. Part 2 of our drugs episodes, this time Jason & Rod talk about how high they've been. The episode starts with Jason's classic anecdote about the pre workout supplement Craze and how it was found to contain methamphetamine. They discuss their own personal experiences of drugs and chat in more detail about the potential useful application of psychedelics including LSD & DMT. Mike Tyson asks "Do you know the toad?" Jason mentions the massive amounts of MDMA he's taken yet fails to mention the recent clinical application of the drug in helping those with PTSD. We never even got the chance to talk about weed. We don't encourage you to take anything, not even supplements or medication that hasn't been prescribed by a professional. This is just two guys discussing their personal experiences, both good and bad. In today's Solidarity Fridays episode, Joe and Kyle have, in Joe's words, "a wildly rambling show." They cover topics in the news, including MAPS' recent completion of their Capstone Campaign, a non-profit fundraising effort to fund the final research required to seek FDA approval of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy (through which they raised $30 million from several high-profile names), MindMed's new LSD-MDMA "candy flipping" phase 1 trial set to commence later this year, Representative Earl Blumenauer's (D-OR) fundraising efforts for legal psilocybin and Oregon's ballot initiative becoming a measure that people can vote on in November, and the Usona Institute resuming their previously COVID-halted psilocybin studies. They then talk about a lot of different things: how to achieve psychedelic states without plants or drugs, Grof's conclusions from 5000 sessions with clients, the dangers of Jim Jones-esque hero worship within communities, the seldom talked about global sacredness of tobacco, how big money coming into psychedelics both hurts and immensely helps the community, the Venus Project and the idea of restarting lives during the COVID life based on what really makes us happy, the impending doom of climate change and the changes we could all be making to help save ourselves, and the western tragedy of always working to become something and never just being. It's largely a conversation about lineage, and making sure to give thanks and respect to the people and history that led to where we are today- not just in the psychedelic sphere, but in all things. They also remind us that spots for September's Navigating Psychedelics class are going fast, and there's a new class available called Imagination as Revelation, developed by Kyle and Johanna Hilla-Maria Sopanen. Notable Quotes “My girlfriend, for some reason, had the Republican National Convention on TV last night, and Ivanka Trump was talking, and talked a lot about addiction and how big of a situation opioid addiction is, which is totally true, but like, with her saying that, to me, what that means is that there’s going to be an increase in funding to the DEA and the drug war, not an increase in funding for treatment. Because typically speaking, that party doesn’t necessarily want to fund treatment; they want to fund prevention, which they see as the drug war. They’ve not noticed yet that their drug war isn’t effective. I’d like to congratulate drugs for winning the war on drugs.” -Joe “Let’s just cut the shit with the drug war. It’s racist, it’s horrible, it’s killing a lot of people still, there’s tons of political prisoners, still, in jail for cannabis, which in many states is being sold and people are making a killing on. It’s just insane to me that people are going to jail for not hurting anybody.” -Joe “When we say the ‘psychedelic community,’ what is that? There’s so many different subsets and so many different people with different agendas. You have the folks who might classify themselves as being part of the psychedelic community that go to festivals and raves and they’re really submerged in that art scene, you have the psychedelic community of therapists and psychiatrists and people in the medical model wanting to do that thing, you have the Decrim Nature folks, you have the shamanic lineages. You have all these different little subcategories within a larger generalization of an interest, and everybody’s approaching it differently. People want to see different things happen. How can we come together? ...How do we try to appreciate all different use cases and really respect where people are coming from and that we don’t need to fit it within these ‘this is the only way, this is the only model, and my way is better’ [paradigms]?” -Kyle “Whenever I think about the archetype of America and the west, I usually think of the hero. Can we stop playing the hero role and could we start to look back at other archetypes and really appreciate other archetypes? Like, why does everybody have to go out and slay the dragon?” -Kyle “Are you just getting really expansive and manic and you want that same yacht Usher has? Or do you want a garden and a small home and some sort of a community around you? Both have a certain kind of appeal, but what’s more sustainable? What helps you connect with your family more and the planet more? It’s probably the garden.” -Joe Links James "Kiwi" Oroc Fundraiser Psychedelic Research Fundraising Campaign Attracts $30 Million in Donations in 6 Months, Prepares MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy for FDA Approval Landmark clinical trial exploring LSD-MDMA combo to begin late 2020 Congressman Raising Money To Legalize Psychedelic Mushroom Therapy Madison nonprofit furthers research on psychedelic drug and depression Elon Musk's Neuralink update: How to watch, start time, 'working' device demo Support the show Patreon Leave us a review on Facebook or iTunes Share us with your friends Join our Facebook group - Psychedelics Today group – Find the others and create community. A number of drugs that are used recreationally are now being studied for their use in psychopharmacology. But while the ways in which these drugs are similar or different has been described anecdotally by recreational users, they haven’t been studied in comparison to one another. Dr. Matthias Liechti and his team of researchers recently published a study in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology, in which 28 healthy subjects, men and women, take doses of LSD, MDMA, amphetamines, and a placebo over four different sessions. Dr. Liechti says this blinding is important; in other studies, participants either have taken a drug or a placebo and can tell when they’re taking the drug. But in this case they don’t know which drug they’re taking, which allows the effects of the drugs to be compared against each other. Take a listen to find out more! This episode of the podcast narrows in on the manner in which early childhood experiences inform, often unconsciously, our adult perceptions, behavior, and self-identity. Our guest, author and former Christian minister Bruce Sanguin, takes us into and through a (common) legacy of early childhood wounds, the relational context through which they are inflicted and later reiterated, as well as the role psychedelic therapy plays in healing those childhood wounds. Bruce is not an armchair advocate for this work, but a man that has learned from his own healing with psychedelic medicines. Along with a structural discussion on his model for healing childhood wounds and the potential of psychedelic therapy to help the process along, he shares his personal story of how his childhood wounds led him to the Church, how healing them required leaving that church behind, and how psychedelics help him learn to love again. **Full episode breakdown below** --LINKS-- For links to Bruce's work, full show notes, and to watch this episode in video, head to Https://bit.ly/ATTMind98 --- SUPPORT THIS PODCAST — Patreon: https://patreon.com/jameswjesso Donations: https://www.paypal.me/JWJesso Merchandise: https://www.jameswjesso.com/shop/ More options: https://www.jameswjesso.com/support/ --- BOOKS — Decomposing The Shadow: https://www.jameswjesso.com/decomposing-the-shadow/ The True Light Of Darkness: https://www.jameswjesso.com/true-light-darkness/ _______________________ EPISODE BREAKDOWN How our early life explains set us up for our perceptions of reality and self in adulthood Core Unconscious Beliefs (CUBs) how they form our personality Personality vs Authentic Self What is happening when we become “triggered” the traumatic origins of existentialism How our CUBs and CABs guide us into toxic relationships We are wounded in relationships; we heal in relationship Enter psychedelic therapy Healing with Ayahuasca Healing with LSD/MDMA (candy flip) psychotherapy What psychedelics do in the therapy The (attachment) role of the therapist in psychedelic therapy Getting trapped in the spiritual ego Sanguin’s journey into and out of the Church How the church helps reaffirm childhood trauma What is God, both before and after psychedelics. --- OTHER LINKS — Website: https://www.jameswjesso.com/ **Speaking Tour**: https://www.jameswjesso.com/events/ Podcast: https://www.jameswjesso.com/podcast/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jameswjesso Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/attmindpodcast/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jameswjesso --- PRODUCTS — Art: https://www.jameswjesso.com/product-category/art/ Teeshirts: https://www.jameswjesso.com/product-category/clothing/ Lectures: https://www.jameswjesso.com/product/psychedelics-ritualistic-suffering-and-the-meaning-of-life-lecture/
Download Caution!! A few important notes. This is an episode of an individual experimenting with powerful drugs to see if he can get any sort of relief from autism. In this case, it appears to have been successful. That said, this came with a substantial amount of risks, and people need to be aware. Please read the below bullets so you understand. Autism is not what is treated. The thing being treated would be a symptom like social anxiety. "The field of autism science includes a long and shameful history of quack treatments and parents taking desperate and harmful measures to “fix” their children. Autism is a spectrum of congenital and neurocognitive variants, and there are no published research data in support of any compound that can influence its course." Alicia Danforth, PhD Please do not administer these drugs to children with autism. There are only two researchers investigating where MDMA and autism meet - Alicia Danforth PhD and Dr. Charlie Grob. A scientific paper will likely be available on this in the next few months. Expect to see more here. These drugs have not been shown to cure or treat autism, but in some cases, just like with neuro-typical individuals, some have seen meaningful changes. Even if changes are noticed the person is still autistic no matter how many high doses of psychedelics they take. Obtaining pure drugs is very difficult if not impossible in black markets. Verifying purity will require the resources of mass spectrometry from organizations offering these services like Energy Control or Ecstasy Data Providing unsafe, dirty or compromised drugs to people can cause serious harm or death. If you are planning to use MDMA to alleviate some suffering on your own, please wait or don't. Do substantial research and have skilled people available to help. Thanks to Alicia Danforth for helping us understand the nuance's in this area. ..autism is a genetically determined cognitive variant. It's pervasive, and it affects the whole person, not just the brain. No chemical compound has been shown to treat, cure, or alter the course of autism. However, for some people, substances like MDMA can help them manage symptoms such as anxiety, social anxiety, and trauma effects. - Alicia Danforth, Ph.D Introduction Joe Moore and Kyle Buller interview Jon and Dre of the Voices in the Dark podcast out of England. The discussion addresses treating autism with MDMA and LSD, what types of doses you should take, and how to in part do it safely. Note there are always risks with any kind of drug. Learn the basics over at our Navigating Psychedelics course. 3 Key Points: A lot of autism is sensory overload. As far as emotions are concerned, we see potentially too many things in other people’s faces. A good range for MDMA dosages is between 100mg and not going over 200mg. 125 micrograms per drop of liquid LSD, and not going above 250 micrograms is recommended. Show Notes Jon’s first psychedelic experience shifted his academic career path and helped him to deal with depression. Dre first tried MDMA as a first step and it unlocked emotional empathy. Sensory overload is a lot of Autism according to Dre. Jon’s experiences with MDMA made him feel like himself without the fear and the worry. MDMA and LSD at the same time didn’t feel as emotional when combined to Jon. 125 micrograms per drop of liquid LSD, and not going above 250 micrograms is recommended. Democratising psychedelic therapy is where Joe would like to see the industry go. Jon is against the fetishizing of any particular concept of belief system in its totality. Jon is excited that he is starting to see more types of research on LSD/MDMA and autism. Dre’s experiences have shifted his autism by feeling that he has a foot in both worlds to know how living without it feels in his mind. The works of Robert Greene shone a light on the otherwise deeply confusing world of other people’s psyches, transforming the world around him into something which finally made sense. JON After spending far too many years in educational institutions, Jon got a PhD in History but is now finally learning something about the real world and the people in it. He always felt that science and scholarship needed more dick jokes and is on a mission to redress that balance. He writes, talks, travels, sings, and has a problematic relationship with cake and coffee.

Andrew has worked as a psychiatrist for many decades. In the 1960's he apprenticed with renowned Scottish psychiatrist R.D. Laing where they used LSD in therapy settings. Andrew has continued his work in therapy, with and without psychedelic substances. In recent years he worked with MAPS Canada in a Vancouver study using MDMA in conjunction with psychotherapy to treat patients with severe PTSD. We talk about how these substances are useful in therapy situations, and much more. Andrew is a goldmine of information for those interested in these topics, and a great storyteller to boot.
