Synthetic Research Explained, Understanding AI-Powered Audience Testing for MarketersWhat is synthetic research and how accurate is it really? In this episode of That's What I Call Marketing, Conor Byrne sits down with Dr. Ben Warner, former Chief Data Adviser to the UK Prime Minister and co-founder of Electric Twin, to unpack one of the most talked-about developments in modern market research: synthetic audiences. This is not ChatGPT pretending to be a consumer. Synthetic research uses real-world survey data, behavioural modelling and large language models to create AI-driven audience simulations that allow organisations to test messaging, product ideas and strategy at speed before committing real budgets. Send us a textMoney Majlis kicks off 2026 with my predictions for the 6 top trends in banking this year plus a candid, high-energy conversation with one of Europe's original fintech pioneers: Kim Fournais, founder and CEO of Saxo Bank. From starting with just a telephone, a fax machine and Euro 70,000 in capital in 1992, to building a global multi-asset trading and investment powerhouse serving nearly 1.5 million clients with over USD 140 billion in assets, Kim's journey is a masterclass in vision, grit and disciplined innovation. In this episode, Kim explains how a young engineer in Copenhagen spotted the inefficiencies of voice-based trading and decided to put “the whole capital markets business on the internet” years before online trading was mainstream. He recalls sketching his first trading screen on paper, launching Saxo's online platform in 1998, and convincing a sceptical industry that real-time, transparent pricing and digital execution would define the future of markets. We talk about Saxo's evolution from a niche Danish brokerage into a global facilitator of capital markets — a tech-first bank delivering multi-asset, multi-currency, multilingual platforms not only to direct clients, but also to more than a hundred financial institutions through a white-label “banking-as-a-service” model. Kim shares how partnerships, culture and an obsession with the “Saxo experience” have allowed the firm to stay agile even as it scaled, embedding technology into every team instead of isolating IT in a silo. He talks about using AI for years across the value chain, and why the real revolution is a new service model that combines human relationship managers with hyper-personalised, AI-driven insights and digital wealth solutions.  Kim reflects on responsible risk-taking, arguing that common sense, diversification and education must anchor a world where powerful tools are increasingly in everyone's hands. He warns against the “get rich fast” culture around trading and crypto, stressing that true financial democracy requires informed investors, robust guardrails and long-term, win–win relationships between platforms and clients.  Finally, Kim explains “honest capitalism” through his self-sustaining Danish island, powered by wind, solar, batteries and regenerative farming, which he sees as a microcosm of how capital can create beauty, biodiversity and independence rather than excess. He shares what true wealth means to him – meaningful relationships, health, and purposeful work – and how martial arts, flying turboprops and modern art all shape his mindset as a leader.  Produced by : PoddsterGiving partner : GoodworldSponsors : Aquanow, Emirates NBD, Intellect Design Arena, e& Etisalat and Network International Please visit www.moneymajlis.com to redeem your complimentary USD 50 GiveCard towards a charity of your choice.

"The future won't belong to humans or machines, but to those who master the hybrid skill set combining AI literacy and human literacy."The future of work is not about humans versus machines. Instead, it belongs to those who master a unique hybrid skill set. This blend combines AI literacy with essential human capabilities. Literacy in today's world lies in the ability to learn, unlearn and relearn - this has never been more true as it is in today's partnership with Agentic AI. Andréa and I delve into the what these combined forces could look like, and how to build the framework for operational implementation. Digital transformation requires a hybrid skill set that fulfils the three different facets of transformation (cognitive, behavioural and emotional), which in turn align with the aspects of workplace culture (how we think, act and interact). We discuss how to build a culture of trust in AI, essential for successful collaboration and highlight a critical distinction : humans interpret data semantically, giving it meaning and purpose, while AI processes it syntactically, based on patterns and probabilities. This difference impacts decision-making and ethical considerations. Leaders of the future must be honest about and clearly see what tasks should be augmented using AI and how the time saved should be spent, i.e. what does AI do best now and, consequently, what should humans do better? How are you ensuring that you, your teams & your organisation are developing the skills necessary to complement AI's analytical power and drive results together. The main insights you'll get from this episode are : - Democratising access to a hybrid skill set means defining how to navigate the ‘fear vs. opportunity' narrative of human potential in a world of AI, harking back to ‘man vs. machine' as opposed to embracing a ‘man with machine' approach.- Digital transformation requires a hybrid skill set that fulfils the three different facets of transformation (cognitive, behavioural and emotional), which in turn align with the aspects of workplace culture (how we think, act and interact).- The cognitive transformation element, i.e. decision-making, is the most problematic for leaders as humans still believe in the old way of making decisions; leaders are most exposed to this risk due to their past successes.- In the words of Rasmus Hougaard, “ego is the worst enemy of leadership” and hampers effective decision-making - AI makes new things possible and humans are taken aback by the exponential rate at which we must learn and unlearn.- Prompting, data sense-making and re-perception mean that we need to craft better input for AI but also ask humans better questions - unexpected questions open our minds to novelty and creativity.- Our inherited educational model rewards good answers, not good questions, yet this stifles creativity and re-perception; the latter goes against the human (and educational) grain, but AI tools represent a good sparring partner.- Rather than a product-centric approach, we are now called upon to make sense of data, but AI and humans interpret data differently: humans interpret it semantically (adding their own perspective); AI interprets it syntactically (as tokens without understanding meaning).- The problem inherent to AI is that it does not understand or give meaning to its decisions and has no conscience about the action taken - humans must have responsibility for giving data meaning and not outsource this to AI.- AI learns on a binary basis without context; tasks that are too demanding...

Eight Billionaires possess as much wealth as half the world's population. Dr. Shann Turnbull, who was selected by Garry Davis as his World Economics Commissioner, has a plan to cure the world's gross inequality. Shann has proved how tax incentives can radically reduce inequality, so all voters obtain locally controlled eternal well-being dividends. Twice he has used tax incentives to raise millions of dollars from hundreds of investors in 15-year leases that funded publicly traded corporations. Twice he has also created corporations with locally elected boards to introduce “Polycentric” self-governance described by Elinor Ostrom in her 2009 Nobel Prize acceptance speech. Both innovations could win voter support from both sides of politics. In 1976, the ultra-right stockbrokers' journal in Australia published a review by Socialist Deputy Prime Minister of Australia of Shann's 1975 book Democratising the Wealth of Nations. The United Nations published a summary of his book. This led to Shann being invited to explain stakeholder privatization in Prague in 1991/2 and Beijing in 1992. He authored Australian Parliamentary reports on Aboriginal self-determination in 1977/8. His 2001 PhD from Macquarie University created a methodology to establish the science of governance of any specie and introduced to social scientists the self-governing concept of Tensegrity. He is a prolific author on using the self-governing practices of biota to purify, share and sustain localized capitalism. In conversation with Tendai Shepherd Mbanje   In this  episode of the Africa Rights Talk podcast, Mr. Tendai Mbanje engaged in a thought-provoking conversation addressing critical issues related to South Africa's political landscape and democratic processes.  He noted that South Africa has witnessed declining voter registration and turnout due to disillusionment with politicians. Issues like corruption, poor service delivery, and unemployment have eroded public trust. He noted that to restore faith in the electoral process and governance, political parties must be transparent about their actions, decisions, and financial dealings, hold leaders accountable for their promises and actions, prioritise efficient service delivery to address citizens' needs, implement robust anti-corruption measures and engage with citizens.    Mr Mbanje emphasised the importance of attracting and mobilising  young voters. He iterated that the youth demographic plays a pivotal role in shaping South Africa's future and that political parties should Educate young voters about their rights, the electoral process, and the impact of their vote, and develop policies that resonate with youth concerns (e.g., education, employment, climate change) and most importantly, include young leaders in decision-making bodies. On the note of balancing ambitious promises and realism of political campaigns, parties should make specific commitments rather than vague promises, back promises with evidence and feasible plans and communicate limitations and challenges honestly. Mr Mbanje noted that the 2024 elections coincide with South Africa's 30th anniversary of democracy, therefore making it a unique election. And that the outcome will determine if it is a maturing democracy or a regressing democracy and may influence democratic norms in other African nations. Furthermore,  he commended the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and other various governmental and non-governmental institutions in combating disinformation and ensuring credible elections and highlighted  that South Africa's elections serves as a model due to its implementation of robust fact-checking mechanisms, education of citizens about discerning reliable information, transparent communication about electoral processes and her willingness tp collaborate globally to combat disinformation. In summary, Mr. Tendai Mbanje's insights underscore the importance of transparent, accountable, and youth-inclusive political processes in shaping South Africa's future and influencing democratic practices across the African continent.   Mr. Tendai Shepherd Mbanje is an accomplished scholar and advocate, and currently a Project Officer, at the Expression, Information and Digital Rights Unit (EIDR), Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria. He has made significant contributions to African governance and electoral processes. His research focuses on the critical role of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) within the African Union. Mr. Mbanje's work sheds light on credible and legitimate electoral practices, emphasising transparency, accountability, and youth engagement. His insights resonate beyond South Africa, influencing democratic norms and practices in neighbouring African nations, and exploring strategies to combat disinformation and ensure credible electoral outcomes.     This conversation was recorded on 19 March 2024.   Youtube: https://youtu.be/MpQFogU6lns Music and news extracts: Inner Peace by Mike Chino https://soundcloud.com/mike-chinoCreative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b...Music promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/0nI6qJeqFcc  limitless https://stock.adobe.com/za/search/audio?k=452592386

They saw how inefficient it is to navigate between multiple data platforms and that data is often too fragmented and spread between too many sources to ensure quality conclusions due to there being too many points of failure. Big tech has a huge data advantage over mid-market competitors due to the fact that leveraging data is super expensive. SingleStore is on a mission to democratize data utilization in smaller companies, which also reflects in their client base - SaaS companies between $10-300 million ARR see the most benefit from implementing SingleStore, and their best performing segment are go-to-market tools, which is a motion that historically doesn't rely on data as much as other parts of the business.Generative AI is changing the way companies utilize data. Raj mentions that in the digital age, generative AI has been in the making for decades. He sees AI being discussed in 3 buckets - first one being that it will help automate easy work, second being that hard tasks will become easy, and third being that the impossible will become possible. He predicts that 50% of software jobs will become automated. Raj is fascinated by what it means for the impossible to become possible. For the 95% of publishers who haven't yet adopted AI, identifying a use case they can start with is usually the biggest roadblock. But the tools also need to be available for publishers to be able to support their unique revenue streams. In this episode, Peter speaks with Maanas Mediratta, CEO at Bridged Media, about how and why making AI tools more accessible to publishers will help the whole ecosystem. Much of the AI innovation is being driven by big tech companies and industries like eCommerce, fashion and finance. But publishers have such a diversity of business models, even tools designed for media companies often won't satisfy individual companies' goals and needs. The full transcript of this episode is available here. You've probably heard of Groww. It is a financial services platform, last valued at $3 billion. This year, the Groww team travelled to a bunch of tier-2 and tier-3 cities in South India to talk to users of its products. In fact, so far, they've been to 100 such cities. In this conversation with Rohin, Lalit—the co-founder and CEO of Groww—describes what typically happens during these visits.Take a city like Indore, for example. Hundreds of Groww users travel really long distances just to talk to the Groww team. They want to know things like how to use the app for something as simple as investing in an SIP that has actually changed their lives.Lalit tells Rohin how the same people have told so many of their friends and family members about Groww. They're excited, grateful and most importantly, emotional, says Lalit. And then he says there's just one word that can describe what's happening between Groww and its users…and it is love.Love for customers, love for the product, and love for good financial services…You'll see how this is a recurring theme in this conversation. Customers are at the centre of Groww. Customer obsession, Lalit says, with no uncertainty, is the thing that will make an employee succeed at Groww.Lalit is a man who is sure of many things—like he's good at hiring or how to build an effective direct-to-consumer product. He knows the first principles for solving complex problems like the back of his hand. And what he's unsure of, he's not too worried about. He tells Rohin how he was raised in a way that makes him a bit different from other founders.Everything will pass, he says. Every problem will be solved. And he explains how this keeps him going, keeps Groww going. In his stoic, cool manner, he goes on to talk about:Why financial services is a basic necessityHow to create delight with your productUnderstanding the difference between what your customer wants and what they will useWhy "discipline is overrated"A simple process that Lalit uses to hire the right people_____________Chapters: 03:01 - What we talk about when we talk about financial services07:19 - Democratising financial services09:41 - Supply and demand of financial services10:51  - How Groww grew 16:33 - How to find future customers today?20:09 - The one metric Groww watches22:21 - What customers say is not what customers do30:37 - What makes people love a financial services brand?35:16 - Lalit's career ladder40:08 - The seeds for Groww46:31 - “Not old & wise enough to give advice, but if there was one thing…”53:14 - Cracking delayed monetisation55:28 - The only thing that guides Groww1:02:31 - “Discipline is overrated”1:05:38 - A simple process to hire the right people1:08:23 - What does Lalit read?1:14:36 - A weekday in Lalit's life1:16:25 - What kind of people succeed at Groww?_____________Also, tune in to the latest episode of Daybreak—The Ken's podcast which breaks down one significant business story thrice a week—to learn about the talent exodus at Niti Aayog on Spotify, Apple or wherever you get your podcasts! The Ken is India's first subscriber-only business journalism platform. In this conversation we discuss both the changing nature of demand for alternative assets as well as their supply. Matt explains how CAIS is creating the bridge between the alternative investment firms and the wealth management community, whose portfolio allocations to these investments are a fraction of their institutional counterparts. Matt discusses the size of the market opportunity, how technology is enabling this rapid transition, and helping solve the problem of unequal access to alternatives. He talks about branding within this space, competition, regulation and how Mercers are providing core due diligence to introduce independence to the arena. The discussion then moves to how investors are re-appraising the traditional 60/40 allocation to bonds and stocks, to incorporate a wider portfolio including alternative investments. In today's episode, I sit down with Sipho Simela, the innovative Founder and CEO of Matrix Rental Solutions, a company revolutionizing the tenant-screening process using AI. With 34% of the U.S population living in rental housing, Sipho's mission to streamline the rental application process couldn't be more timely. Matrix Rental Solutions is leading the charge in tackling biases found in conventional applicant algorithms that often obstruct renters. With an AI that provides a holistic view of an applicant's financial stability, Matrix ensures deserving renters get a fair chance, showing that 89% of conditionally accepted applicants were able to make at least three consecutive on-time rental payments. Sipho shares insightful discussions on the measures Matrix has taken to mitigate fraud in the rental market, which has seen a significant increase during the pandemic. We delve into the importance of empowering consumers with control over their data and how Matrix's advanced tools detect fraudulent documents and identity theft. Our conversation also uncovers the limitations of the traditional tenant evaluation system, such as cumbersome paper-based applications and slow processing times. Sipho envisions a future with faster, more accurate tenant evaluations through the power of AI and other emerging technologies. We also discuss the necessity of industry-wide standardization through a Universal Rental Application, and how technology can shield tenants, realtors, and brokerages from housing discrimination cases. In a particularly heartening segment, Sipho shares his humbling personal journey that led to the birth of Matrix Rental Solutions. Despite the complexity of the tech world he navigates, Sipho's humility shines through, adding a layer of personal connection to our conversation. Join us as we explore the intersection of AI, real estate, and equity with Sipho Simela. Learn how Matrix Rental Solutions is forging a path for a fairer rental process, democratizing access to quality housing, and shaping the future of tenant screening processes.
