Peter Watts in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.spygenius.co.uk/ SPYGENIUS frontman and songwriter Peter Watts got his start in the 80s as the lead singer with the Murrumbidgee Whalers, whose jangle-pop classic "Giving Way to Trains" has recently been re-released on the Cherry Red C88 compilation. The 21st century saw the Watts moving on to create Spygenius, a classic British four piece pop-combo based in Canterbury and South London, who have built upon and extended that musical legacy. Ruth Rogers (bass), Matt Byrne (keys) and Alan Cannings (drums) complete the line-up - and everybody sings. Their music has echoes of all those classic 60s ‘B' bands – Beatles, Byrds, Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, Bonzos. But it equally resonates with college-radio darlings of later generations like XTC, The Smiths, Robyn Hitchcock, R.E.M. There's a lot of musical bric-a-brac in there too – souvenirs from surf and psych, folk and exotica, lounge and blues, rock and roll. The songs are carefully crafted: memorable melodies, heavenly harmonies, gorgeous guitars, perfect percussion, bitchin' bass and kinky keyboards abound.

What is the level of worry for Christie Sides' job?  46:22-1:17:44 – Bob Kravitz covers all things Indianapolis sports, and he joins KB and Marc to talk first about the Indiana Fever and Kravitz' latest piece on how Caitlin Clark is being ‘treated like a piñata'. For the last episode of the podcast, Stacey discusses Anna's trial with her real life defense attorney, Todd Spodek. She also meets with Matt Byrne, who wrote the series finale, and who attended Anna's trial as a representative from Shondaland and Netflix.  Anna's defense attorney, Todd Spodek weighs in on the portrayal of his complex and ever evolving relationship with Anna, and on what the case meant to him personally. Anna was a difficult client at times, but she could also be profoundly charming and sweet. Todd reflects on the side of Anna he saw that he says no one else did. No one else except perhaps his good friend Jessica Pressler (Vivian's character is based on Jessica). He talks about their friendship, his thought process behind Anna's defense, what he thinks of his portrayal by Arian Moayed, and more.  Later in the episode, Matt Byrnes takes us inside the courtroom from his perspective, and reveals how the trial impacted the show's ending. The trial was still ongoing as he and the rest of the writers were scripting the series. He gets into why they chose to make it a true story, “except for all the parts that are entirely made up,” and explains what his and Shonda's intentions were behind the most crucial moments in the series and the finale. What is the "American Dream" these days? The band Hatebreed tackled that subject in their song "A.D." off of their latest album "Concrete Confessional". A univocal message that raises the anxiety of now-a-days. There's a certain aspect that has you even scared to go out of the house at times. Drummer Matt Byrne joins the DOMKcast on episode 79. In town not too long ago with GWAR at the Cain's Ballroom. Matt has enjoyed his time with them on the road. Matt was the fill-in drummer for Late Night with Seth Myers. What was it like being apart of a structured talkshow and how does it differ from performing onstage with Hatebreed? Matt admitted it was an adjustment watching for his cues. What are some Do's and Don'ts to follow if you want to be a successful band? Matt highlighted some of things that he tries to abide by. One for anybody to follow would be to keep your partying in check. Obviously that's something that can not only destroy your career but your life as well. What does Matt do in his downtime? He enjoys time at his house in upstate New York. Hiking and seclusion are on the list of musts during this time. The exact opposite of life on the road. The band has a reputation for touring relentlessly over the years. It's great to get a break but nothing replaces the feeling of performing live in-front of a crowd. The latest album from Hatebreed is "Concrete Confessional" released back in 2016. Worth the listen. Hear the full conversation with Matt Byrne of Hatebreed on episode 79 of the DOMKcast. #DOMKRocks
