Thurston Moore is one of the most famous names in rock. With Kim Gordon and Lee Ronaldo, he formed Sonic Youth, one of the definitive art rock bands... yes, ART rock. Sonic Youth album covers famously spotlighted artists, from Gerhard Richter's candle on the cover of 1988's Daydream Nation to Raymond Pettibon's cartoon couple on the cover of 1990's Goo to Mike Kelley's stuffed animal on the cover of 1992's Dirty to Marnie Weber's collage for 1998's A Thousand Leaves. Well, now Moore is back, putting out a new dreamy solo album titled Flow Critical Lucidity, and true to form, the cover is another literal work of art: a photo of a sculpture of what appears to be metal helmet, studded with tuning forks. This is a work called Samurai Walkman, by the artist Jamie Nares. Nares is a figure of major cachet herself. She only just had a film retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art here in New York in the summer. Back in 2020, her fantastic 2011 video Street was the first film to be projected on the exterior of the Metropolitan Museum of Art—Thurston Moore, in fact, did the soundtrack to that film. Nares and Moore have a fruitful history of collaboration together, having both come up in the chaotic, experimental No Wave scene of the 1970s, and this week they join Ben Davis on the podcast to discuss. We're also thrilled to announce the launch of Art Market Minute, our new micro-podcast, hosted by news editor Margaret Carrigan. It offers a weekly snapshot of essential art market news, expertly compiled by the Artnet PRO editorial team. You can find it wherever you get your podcasts every Monday.

Welcome to episode 182 of the Grow Your Law Firm podcast, hosted by Ken Hardison. In this episode, Ken sits down with Kaitlin Nares, Partner and Founder of Hagen Nares PLLC, to discuss what it means to be efficient during a time Kaitlin calls “The Great Resignation.” Kaitlin Nares is a partner and founder of Hagen Nares PLLC. Kaitlin is known for her compassion, professionalism, and clear communication. Kaitlin co-founded Hagen Nares PLLC as the culmination of her passion for the law and her desire to help families that have been severely injured at no fault of their own. Kaitlin empathizes with her clients because she identifies with her clients. As a mother, Kaitlin understands that countless people are waking up in the middle of the night worried about themselves or their injured spouses and children, mounting medical bills, missed calls from debt collectors, lost work, and the run-around from insurance companies. Kaitlin believes that these people deserve a caring and patient advocate. Kaitlin is experienced going toe to toe with the nation's largest insurance companies. These companies have chosen profit over safety resulting in catastrophic consequences for families. Kaitlin's area of expertise includes truck wreck litigation and traumatic brain injuries. These are some of the toughest civil cases. They require a mastery of the laws, regulations, science, and medical literature. Kaitlin is a trial lawyer and willing to hold these large companies accountable. Her goal is to change laws and policies to make our communities safer. Kaitlin prioritizes communication and understanding, and values honesty and trustworthiness. Kaitlin lays out for her clients the complicated process of collecting against insurance companies. She then educates her clients on their diagnosed injuries and paints a picture of their medically recommended long-term treatment needs. Along the way, Kaitlin takes over the frustrating, and many times, disheartening, phone calls with insurance adjusters. She communicates with her clients during each step of the process so they can make well-informed legal decisions. Kaitlin is trial tested and will advocate for your family. Kaitlin serves on the board of Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the American Academy of Justices Traumatic Brain Litigation section. Kaitlin resides in Denver, Colorado and enjoys exploring the Rocky Mountain region. Kaitlin loves spending time with her two babies- 23-month-old Brody Parker and 7-month-old Noah Kennedy. What you'll learn about in this episode: · How Kaitlin started with her Law Firm · Why it's important to have a specialized area of practice · Learn how to build a good culture with remote employees · The importance of tracking monthly KPI's · Becoming more efficient with less meetings Resources: www.HNTrialLaw.com https://www.instagram.com/coloradolawyermom https://www.facebook.com/hagennares https://www.linkedin.com/in/kaitlinnares/ Additional Resources: https://www.pilmma.org/aiworkshop https://www.pilmma.org/the-mastermind-effect https://www.pilmma.org/resources https://www.pilmma.org/mastermind

For the past five decades, the British-born, New York–based artist Jamie Nares has been capturing the passage of time, the physics of motion, and the essence of self through a wide variety of mediums, including film, painting, music, photography, and performance. Many of Nares's films, such as Pendulum (1976) and Street (2011), play with rhythm and speed as they distill the streets of New York City and the movements of its inhabitants. Nares's vast body of work shares a common theme: the recording of a specific moment in time that gives the viewer an intimate look into a human experience. Her famous brushstroke paintings are both powerful and delicate, capturing the mere seconds of a single, continuous bodily motion using a repeated swooping gesture. One of her recent projects, “Monuments,” pays homage to the workmen who, centuries ago, chiseled marks in the huge granite blocks of downtown Manhattan. As life speeds up following the pandemic lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, Nares's work serves as a beautiful reminder to slow down, and to more deeply explore the many movements around us.On this episode of Time Sensitive, Nares talks with Andrew about her decades of work exploring time, rhythm, and movement; her journey transitioning to womanhood at age 65; and why her daughters and the next generation give her hope for the future.Special thanks to our Season 6 sponsor, L'ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts.Show notes:Full transcriptJamie NaresKasmin Gallery[03:32] Street[15:43] Pendulum[25:26] Red-Handed[27:29] A New Vein[31:10] James Chance and the Contortions[38:18] Ramp[38:36] No Wave Cinema[39:21] Monuments[50:02] “Nares: Moves”
My friends Chrissy Hagen and Kaitlin Nares recently opened Hagen Nares in Denver, Colorado. Hagen Nares is a modern law firm that sprouted out of The Great Resignation. Chrissy and Kaitlin both worked for a large law firm in Colorado, where they struggled to strike a good work-life balance. They also looked 10 years into the future and realized that the legal profession was going to look entirely different than it does now. Together they launched Hagen Nares, a women owned law firm focusing on personal injury and civil rights. This is a great interview with two dynamic humans. Enjoy. Over the course of a five-decade career, Nares has investigated, challenged, and expanded the boundaries of her multi-media practice that encompasses film, music, painting, photography, and performance. She continues to employ various media to explore physicality, motion, and the unfolding of time. Nares has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and a career-spanning retrospective at the Milwaukee Art Museum in 2019. Her work is included in several prominent public collections, including the Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo, NY; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. A career-spanning survey of her film and video works were presented in 2008 at Anthology Film Archives, New York; and in 2011 at IFC Center, New York. In 2014, Rizzoli published a comprehensive monograph on Nares's career to date. Nares has lived and worked in New York since 1974. She has been represented by Kasmin since 1991. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wake-island/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wake-island/support
Did you know that the oral cavity has the second largest and most diverse microbiota after the gut, harboring over 700 species of bacteria? The progression of health or regression toward disease is critically influenced by the microbiota. In addition to being the initiation point of digestion, the oral microbiome is crucial in maintaining both oral and systemic health. The oral microbiome rests within biofilms throughout the oral cavity and forms an ecosystem that maintains health in a state of homeostasis. However, particular imbalances in this state of equilibrium allow pathogens to develop and cause disease. This disruption of the oral microbiome leads to dysbiosis, which is an imbalance in the microbial community that is associated with a myriad of diseases -- most of which show up in various organs and systems throughout our entire body!In this episode, you will be learning about the multitude of negative downstream health effects of a dysbiotic oral cavity and why more of your health and wellness begins in your mouth than you may have previously thought. We will also go through the photobiomodulation research on oral health, where you will see that there are countless ways that red light therapy can help optimize your oral hygiene and oral "vigor." Lastly, you will hear about the newest piece of red light therapy technology that was developed specifically for the mouth and oral health. - Dr. Mike Belkowski talks about the following: An innovative way to use red light therapy for oral health How the oral biome impacts a multitude of health systems How connected your oral health is to gut health 70% or more of the immune system is located in the gut; however, immunity begins in the mouth Cardiovascular health A link between bacteria that causes both gum disease and Alzheimer's in the brain The direct correlation between poor dental health, tooth pain, bleeding gums, and anxiety/ depression The endocrine system Obesity and its link to the oral microbiome Nitric oxide production, how it supports the body's natural repair processes, and how red light therapy helps with it Diets that support the gut microbiome More electrons = less inflammation; ways to get free electrons Factors that affect the oral microbiome such as how you were born Photobiomodulation research as it relates to oral health (see works cited below) How the power of light reduces pain, improves quality of life, and improves functionality Low level laser therapy (LLLT) and how it is an effective treatment for canker sores, oral health, and more The Guardian - BioLight's newest red light therapy product that improves oral health - The Guardian is the first red light therapy oral care device of its kind, with patent-pending technology that implements dual LEDs, giving you the healing power from both red and near-infrared (NIR) light! - To learn even more about how you can improve your health via your oral microbiome, check out The Dental Diet, by Dr. Steven Lin or Heal Your Oral Microbiome, by Cass Nelson-Dooley. - Pre-order The Guardian here! - Listen to the Dr. Kelly Blodgett episode on oral health here - Works Cited Cronshaw, Mark et al. “Photobiomodulation and Oral Mucositis: A Systematic Review.” Dentistry journal vol. Background: Patients with nonallergic rhinitis with eosinophilia syndrome (NARES) show typical symptoms of persistent allergic rhinitis (PAR). The aim of the present study was to compare nasal cytokine patterns between NARES and PAR. Methods: Nasal secretions of 31 patients suffering from NARES, 20 patients with PAR to house dust mite and 21 healthy controls were collected using the cotton wool method and analyzed for interleukin (IL)-1 beta, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-7, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, IL-13, IL-17, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and macrophage inflammatory protein-1 beta (MIP-1 beta) by Bio-Plex Cytokine Assay as well as eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) and tryptase by UniCAP-FEIA. Results: NARES and PAR presented elevated levels of tryptase, while ECP was markedly increased solely in NARES compared to both the controls and PAR. Elevated levels of IL-1 beta, IL-17, IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha and MCP-1 were found in NARES compared to the controls as well as PAR. MIP-1 beta was elevated in NARES and PAR, while IL-4, IL-6 and G-CSF showed increased levels in NARES, and IL-5 was elevated in PAR only. Conclusions: In patients with NARES and PAR, eosinophils and mast cells appear to be the pivotal cells of inflammation, reflected by high levels of tryptase and ECP as well as IL-5 and GM-CSF as factors for eosinophil migration and survival. The elevated levels of proinflammatory cytokines in NARES may indicate the chronic, self-perpetuating process of inflammation in NARES which seems to be more pronounced than in PAR. IL-17 might be a factor for neutrophilic infiltration or be responsible for remodeling processes in NARES. Copyright (C) 2012 S. Karger AG, Basel

Laryngektomie (5 ppb; p
