What is your Passion? What stirs you up? What gets you up after a sleepless night, and makes you give your all; Heart, Body, and Soul? Today Mr. Black wants to remind his listeners about the importance of May, as National Mental Health Awareness month. Have you noticed how bitter and broken people seem to be? Have you seen all the ‘rich and famous’ who become helpless and hopeless and end it all? Depression and suicide come down to helplessness and hopelessness. When we have a PASSION for a PURPOSE- HOPE becomes a byproduct. When we know our reason WHY, then HOW, or WHAT are easier questions to find solutions for. What is needed is Passion, which brings with her, Hope. Just like darkness hates the light, because when IT (light) comes, IT (darkness) must go away. The same is true for Passion and HOPE, they send Helpless and Hopeless, packing! Enjoy today’s Story Time with Mr. Black titled, ‘What sends your heart to heaven?”. Depression is a mathematical equation. My life is hard, tough, and unfair today…and tomorrow will be no different. Have you ever been there? Have you ever considered that the pain of life, is no longer worth the burden of life? Have you ever been at your ‘wits end’, and ready to walk away from everything? If you have been at that place, or are there today- there is hope that tomorrow can be better. Be sure to Like and Follow us on our facebook page. Check out our website www.LikeItMatters.Net. On Today's Podcast of Living Life Like It Matters, Mr. Black will dive deep into the reality of Suicide. In 30 years of working at the deep, structural level, Mr. Black has learned: Hurting people, hurt people. One of those people, hurting people hurt, is themselves. Suicide is in the Top 10 of ways people die in America. In the pandemic of disrespect and our wanton rebellion against authorities called Law Enforcement Officers, (LEO), more police officers are being killed in the line of duty than ever before. As high as that number is, more police die from suicide than from other perps. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in adolescence. Hopeless and helpless are killing us! The prescription is HOPE, and each of us can administer it in large, and small doses! In honor of National Mental Health Awareness month, Mr. Black is going to talk about a prescription for what is killing us. Have you considered, HOPE? Hope is the answer for the helpless and the hopeless. Enjoy today’s podcast of Living Life Like It Matters, as Mr. Black talks, and brings understanding about; It's killing me. Coming back from Passover break, we catch up on Matana's journey, and the internal changes seen over the past few weeks. May is crowned National Mental Health Awareness month, but is it enough to just have it marked in a calendar? Growth and appreciation are a constant and required focus to continue along the journey of recovery and noticing the little details are a critical tool to developing a healthy gratitude mindset. Awareness can be fickle if it isn't well defined and intended for long term internalization.Awareness is only successful if we make a commitment to take the required next steps to living a better and healthier life. Each person's journey to recovery is unique and is every therapist's session. No two people will chart the same course and we all must try different avenues that could lead to improvement since we don't know in advance which will be the best choice. We all, however, must put forth that effort to make it happen or there won't be any positive change. If you need more support in your mental health journey please reach out to us in our private Facebook group. Depression is a real illness. A treatable mental illness. It affects nearly 20% of the population. According to the Centers for Disease Control every American adult with suffer at least two bouts with depression in their life time. It can be triggered by traumatic life events, a death of a loved one(s), a chemical imbalance in the brain, or it can be hereditary. It is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed. Most often people suffering from depression become withdrawn, lethargic, uninterested in things and activities they once enjoyed. They often become filled with feelings of worthlessness or immense shame. Often it is no fault of their own. It is an illness that many people have endured. Statistics by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and NAMI states that 50% of all Americans will suffer from a mental health crisis and that on average every American adult will suffer from at least two bouts of depression in their life time. Anxiety is actually the most common mental illness affecting 40 million American adults 18 years or older. 18% of the American population. Major Depressive Disorder affects 14.8 million American adults, or 6.7% of the American population. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD affects 7.7 million American adults or 3.5% of the American population. (Source: Anxiety and Depression Association of America. ADAA.) 5.7 million or 2.6% Americans suffer from BiPolar Disorder. (Source: Depression and BiPolar Support Alliance. [DBSA].) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder affects about 5 million American adults or about 2 to 3 percent. (Source: Psych Central). About 1 in 20 individuals live with Borderline Personality Disorder. (Source: NAMI.) These statistics are from those that seeks help, and obtain a diagnosis. Imagine what the numbers might be with those who don't seek help. Mental illness is now being called the “silent epidemic.” The good news is that these mental illnesses can be treated and recovery for many mental illnesses is not only possible, it occurs. Unfortunately there is still a stigma associated with depression and other mental illnesses and often people don't seek help. Often because of fear of being out-casted to even shunned due to the stigmatization associated with mental illness. This stigma needs to stop. Stigma is caused because of the lack of education, knowledge, wisdom and empathy about mental illness. If you are someone who is suffering from depression, anxiety, or activities or lack thereof, interfering with normal activities or know someone who is; ask for help, or if someone you know is suffering or showing long periods of sadness extending more than a week, help them get help. Don't wait. Talk to them and by all means listen to them. Often an empathetic and caring ear can go a very long way. There are many resources of help. And in America, it is now affordable to seek help for mental illness. And there is no dollar amount that is too much to help someone with depression and even possibly save a life. No matter how hopeless you or someone you know may feel or think their situation is, there is hope, and there is treatment. People often don't get the mental health services they need because they don't know where to start. Talk to your primary care doctor or another health professional about mental health problems. Ask them to connect you with the right mental health services. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/purposeprinciplespassion/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/purposeprinciplespassion/support

Thanks for listening to another episode of the Women's Maximum Fitness Podcast! In this episode #79 I get to hear the incredible story of NPC figure competitor Amanda Almodover as we wrap up National Mental Health Awareness week. Christmas eve 2014 Amanda was released from the hospital. A moment she will never forget and a stay that finally got her the help she needed to live, after revealing her cutting addiction coupled with anorexia to her mother. Amanda's story is amazing and emotional as she so articulately shares not just the insight from her experience, but her daily continuous growth being mindful and while teaching kindergartners. There are so many golden nuggets of a wisdom and truth in this episode. My favorite is that “actions have consequences” can we say it louder for those in the back! Amanda shares how she knows she's not enough without God, how she's healing through healthy coping mechanisms, how her rock bottom has revealed the importance of incorporating mental health outlets for the children she teaches, and how bodybuilding is not at all about your body but about helping her be a better person. This interview touched my soul and if it helps even one more it will be worth the words. So SO glad I didn't lose this episode as my computer died 20 minutes before we were done. This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. May is National Mental Health Awareness month. Businesses in the US lose between 80 and 100 billion dollars annually due to absenteeism and loss of productivity associated with mental health issue. That doesn't even begin to touch on the human suffering associated with that loss. James Hadlock, co-founder of Blunovus, is here to tell us how his company is making a difference. JAMES HADLOCK At Blunovus, we know 1 out of 4 individuals are living with mental illness, and 80% of those struggling will never reach out for help due to stigma and job concern. We're on a mission to change that. We're so much more than a traditional Employee Assistance Program. We're a human connection company that puts people first, and we live this out by providing employees—and their loved ones—with 24/7 mental health support and the resources they need in order to heal. We also help organizations level-up their culture and support their people through manager certifications, executive coaching, and ongoing well-being analytics. Our goal is to move upstream and help organizations proactively address mental health in the workplace well before a crisis ever occurs. We believe that people need people, and together, we can break down mental health stigma to create happier and healthier workforces. ‘The missing link in caring is mentoring for carers so they know what to expect and how to cope' In this highly emotive episode, Rob is in conversation with his Mum. They are raising awareness of Bi-polar and the vital role of the carer during National Mental Health Awareness week. They talk candidly and with personal experience about what it's like to live with Rob's Dad who is Bi-polar. This episode highlights the challenges that carers face and also the love and humour that binds families together. KEY TAKEAWAYS Living with Bi-polar is very challenging but when the individual is experiencing an episode it is the carer who has to cope with living with a completely different person. The missing link in caring is mentoring for carers so they know what to expect and how to cope. If the mental health profession directed resources to train and support carers of those with Bi-polar more families would be able to stay together. When did you first notice changes? The initial changes were very small, it was as if a magpie had come along and stolen a little part of his personality and replaced it with someone else's. Every time the magpie took a small piece it was as if it replaced it with the opposite until eventually, he was the opposite of who he was, he was everything he had previously abhorred. As a carer, you have to understand that your loved one has disappeared for a holiday, but they will return. You have to accept you will be living with a stranger for a period of time. What do you think caused it? It can happen to anyone, a really hard life over a period of 28 years coupled with bottling up everything emotional has resulted in this mental illness. Mental illness is like any other illness that you might suffer from and you do get better. Being proud and strong and not asking for help were key factors. What help do carers need? It is vital that a carer learns that a Bi-polar person needs some money to waste, they also need to know how to effectively protect and safeguard all other money from a person with Bipolar or risk losing it all. Bi-polar people are relentless they will look for other ways to access money during an episode. There can be long periods where the person is well but triggers such as poor sleep patterns or not taking medicine can trigger an episode and there is no help until the illness affects the person's physical health. Getting help is very challenging and it is important that carers know that currently help is based on whether the individual is a danger to themselves or others. When an individual is admitted to hospital it is vital to organise family and friends as often people don't know how to respond and help. It all gradually stops when they are in hospital and in an environment of peace. When they return home recovery can begin. My quest in life is to try and get people who are carers access to better and more useful help, you need the training to be able to cope with someone who is Bi-polar. BEST MOMENTS ‘I was looking at someone I had to explicitly trust and didn't initially realise he wasn't there at that point' ‘People go through sh#t' ‘If you don't reach out things will go wrong' ‘The Bi-polar mind is a very strong and determined mind' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Disruptive Entrepreneur Podcast ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is the host of the UK's no. 1 business podcast “The Disruptive Entrepreneur,” as well as an entrepreneur, property investor, property educator, and holder of 3 world records for public speaking. We all know about the mental health concerns within the veterinary workplace mental health and, in particular, the darker side of this where suicide seems like a perfectly normal option for someone suffering. It's a dark place to end up. So as part of the UK National mental health week... (and frankly wherever you are on the planet, it doesn't hurt to hear about it again), I hope you can take something from the following three resources. The first is an episode of Blunt Dissection Podcast where I interview a suicide survivor and a psychologist about the topic. I know from feedback that this episode has helped, even saved people who listened. https://soundcloud.com/bluntdissection/blunt-dissection-ep-7-lets-talk-about-veterinary-suicide The second is a super impactful blog/resource guide from one of my own role models, Mr Tim Ferriss. (Thanks Tim, you are a legend.) https://tim.blog/2015/05/06/how-to-commit-suicide/ And finally, if you are a team leader, then Dr Sheliah Robertson (Callsign Dr Awesome), put me onto the QPR courses for mental health first aid. https://qprinstitute.com/ Submit your question for Dr Dave on twitter, facebook or Instagram. Submit to @drdavenicol on each and tag the question #askdrdave. Everyone who has their question answered will win a signed copy of Dr Dave's latest book, So You're A Vet...Now What?
Serious Topic: May is National Mental Health Awareness month, and I have been excited to talk about the topic of mental health on this podcast. I will discuss my own battles with depression, stress, binge drinking, and other issues that stemmed from my time at Bank of America (More of the serious stories will appear in my book) I will tell you how banks make employees feel like you are obliged to accept their abuse of power and incessant nitpicking. Plus I will also discuss the impact on customers, where working in the branch became a petri dish of crazy human emotion that was spurred by the policies and decisions that banks made to their clients. You will also hear me discuss how I witnessed threats of domestic violence while sitting in my office helping that was brought on by the unhelpful attitudes of Bank of America, and most certainly copied every other bank. (Some Adult Language in that discussion) Really Hard Podcast to do, but it needs to be done. Plus I announce how I am going to give back to charity for every part of my project. Plus one fun, if not sad, topic. Bank of America used to have a bunch of locations on the way to Vegas in Arizona. Learn about two more closures happening soon that impact how people just outside of Phoenix and Vegas will bank. It's snake eyes for BofA in Bullhead City, AZ.
