In this rather rushed, rambling and unedited (& unprofessional?;) episode, Jay discusses his unexpected return to the UK, the upcoming UK Premierie of his feature documentary [SEWOL: Sealed Eternally With Our Love] at Kingston Internation Film Festival, Korean music concerts caught in Bristol (artists seen include Say Sue Me and Park Jiha), witnessing Bong Joon-ho's latest film, meeting up with Philip Gowman of London Korean Links, getting together with occasional co-host Timothy Holm, attending another important Sewol UK memorial, unexpected Korean-related encounters and loads more... Too much really!.Amongst other topics, this jam-packed show provides a little further insight into the orighins of that 70-minute tribute film, SEWOL: Sealed Eternally With Our Love as well Jay's plans of heading back to Asia very soon![NOTE: As always, a version of this episode will also be available over on our fairly recently created @notsokoreanpodcast YouTube channel - please feel free to subscribe to that!]FURTHER INFODetails about subjects covered or touched on in this episode and recent ones can be found below.London Korean Links:http://www.LondonKoreanLinks.nethttps://www.facebook.com/groups/6799709425 Sewol:https://rememberingsewoluk.wordpress.comhttps://www.facebook.com/RememberingSewolUKhttps://www.instagram.com/sewol_uk/Love X Stereo:https://linktr.ee/lovexstereoMobygratis / Moby:https://mobygratis.comSay Sue Me:https://www.facebook.com/SaySueMe1http://www.Instagram.com/saysuemehttps://saysueme.bandcamp.comPark Jiha:http://www.ParkJiha.comhttps://www.Instagram.com/Jihasoundhttps://www.facebook.com/jihasoundhttp://www.Twitter.com/jihasoundhttps://parkjiha.bandcamp.com/album/all-living-thingsJason Verney's "Reparation":http://www.Instagram.com/Reparation_Film (@Reparation_Film)https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6732314/https://youtu.be/UHr9fpvr7M4 (TRAILER)https://youtu.be/QOEy-VMs7nsMBF Podcast:https://linktr.ee/microbudgetfilmmakers+ FLICKS:As well as these other podcast series, Jason Verney's "F.

In this episode, Heather Smith, PhD, RN, NNP visits the studio to discuss the Mercalis Nurse Network. For the past seven years, Mercalis has provided its clients and their patients with a growing suite of services focused on patient care and education. The need for our Nurse Network was realized when we observed that parents and caregivers were being asked to mix medications and inject their children or family members. Since then, Mercalis nurses have served as an important link in the education of caregivers, leading to better adherence and superior outcomes for countless patients.
Tracey Bell, DNP, APRN, NNP will discuss the impact of nursing care as it relates to global health.
In the first episode of season 3, Dr. U. Grant Baldwin, DBH, Director of the Doctor of Behavioral Health program at Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies, explores Neonatal Nursing with a focus on Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, and the critical need for integrated healthcare for infants and families. Panelists include: Tara Sundem, NNP, is a board-certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with more than 30 years of experience in neonatal intensive care. She was a frontline worker in the growing opiate epidemic, caring for the most innocent of its victims: Newborns suffering through opiate withdrawal-Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). Her passion to transform the healthcare experience for them and their families led her to found Hushabye Nursery, an Arizona non-profit dedicated to caring for opiate-exposed newborns in their first few weeks of life. The 12-bed inpatient nursery opened its doors and its arms to these babies and their mothers in November 2020. Under Tara's leadership as Executive Director, Hushabye Nursery has grown from an idea to ""save the babies"" in 2016, to a unique model of care for this underserved population that focuses on the family unit, both prenatal and postnatal. Recognized as an industry leader on NAS, Tara has presented several community events on the topic. She received the 2021 Phoenix Business Journal Health Care Hero Award for Nursing and 12 News Miracle Makers Award in 2021. She hold a Master of Science from Arizona State University and is a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses, the Academy of Neonatal Nurses, and the Neonatal Nurse Practitioners of AZ. Tara lives in Gilbert with her husband, two sons and their dog. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/disruptors-at-work/support

There are some amazing organizations that help to support and provide valuable resources for bereaved and NICU families. Many parents who have had a child in the NICU as well as parents who have endured a pregnancy loss or the loss of an infant have felt led to give back to other families enduring the same experience. Using their personal experience, they have created a platform or organization to pay it forward so they can help other families. After our son William was home from the NICU, I felt driven to help other NICU families and I have been blessed to be able to do that in a variety of ways. For this podcast episode, I spotlight some incredible organizations that provide support and/or resources for families enduring a NICU journey, have a child with complex medical needs, disabilities, or those who will benefit from bereavement support. This is not to say you will want to connect with and utilize all of the resources mentioned today, but find the resources that are in sync with the type of information and support that you are looking for. Some of these companies only offer local support whereas others are available virtually on a national or international level. Many of the organizations have been around for many years whereas others are fairly new in the Neonatal and bereavement niche. My ultimate goal as a former NICU parent, NNP and someone who has endured loss, is for my listeners to find the appropriate support throughout your personal experience and I hope this podcast helps you do just that! So sit back and get ready to become empowered as we review some fantastic NICU and bereavement-based organizations! Recorded on 7th January 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.SERIES DESCRIPTION:"F. L. I. C. K. S." is a podcast by filmmaker and journalist Jason Verney, in collaboration with his production company, NativeNomadPictures.com (NNP) and his movies & music website, MiniMiniMovie.com (MMM), and stands for:FilmsLifeInterviewsCameraKoreaSoundsSelf-quoted as: "An Odd Plod, Nod & Pod to 'NO-MADe-land'..."This podcast can be seen as an apology perhaps, to those who may be awaiting the yet to be completed South Korean documentary by Mr Verney. Jason talks about various aspects of Korea, the Korean culture, movies (both Korean and international), music, life, travelling & more. Like the #KDOC14 documentary project itself, this too is a work in progress. Over time it will evolve... be this in format or from an audio to a visual podcast.Note: "F. L. I. C. K. S." is the new name for what was known as "Jason Verney's PLODCAST". Previous potential comic titles for this podcast were Prodcast*, Probcast** and Oddcast*** but the original name of "Plodcast" was used. * To represent 'still in Production'** For either 'Problematic' or 'Probably'*** Simply because it's all kind of 'Odd'PLODCAST, although probably in existent by other broadcasters, was thought most apt... Not so much due to the fact that the podcast itself is slow, plodding or boring (well, you can be the judge of that!) but indicating that the Korean documentary, and other filmic projects are slowly, but surely on their way!"F. The company itself is not completely new, Casa de Sueños was formed by a group of cigar enthusiasts based in California called the LG Cigar Club. They hooked up with the De Los Reyes factory in the Dominican Republic to produce their brands. The name "Casa de Sueños" translates to House of Dreams which is appropriate for this group that fulfilled a dream of launching a cigar company. For this podcast episode, I was very honored to be joined by Ms. Mary Coughlin. Mary is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, but also a published author of several pieces of work. She is well-known in the neonatal world for her development of the core measures for developmentally supportive care, but most recently with her published work and creation of the trauma-informed professional certification program as well as additional programs, workshops and masterclasses through Caring Essentials Collaborative. I was so honored to be able to sit down and discuss Mary's work experience that led her to the transformational work she is doing today. Just listening to Mary is transformational! As NICU clinicians, Mary reminds us of the importance of our role and why it is so crucial for us to embrace our vulnerability, take our armor down and truly connect with each other on a human level. Trauma-informed care is not about doing more as a clinician, it is about being more of your loving, compassionate self so you can make a difference by fully showing up for your patient and their family. We also discussed the trauma that is so common for NICU parents throughout their NICU journey and in the years to follow. So many NICU parents feel alone and isolated in the process, yet it is common to so many. We discussed the word trauma and why it is often downplayed or not spoken openly about it NICUs like it should be. And most importantly, we share the importance of working through and moving through your trauma, which will be difficult but is essential for the well-being of the entire family unit.Trauma-informed care is a concept that has been applied to several areas of medicine and patient care, but its application to the NICU is still emerging. Mary learned about trauma-informed care and knew that she had to introduce it into the NICU world. Not only does trauma-informed care in the NICU directly affect the baby, but it also addresses the family as well as the clinicians who are caring for the infant and family. Mary explains why the personal journeys we all go through and each of our stories play into an intricate web that involves each and every one of us. It is through this that we can all more intimately connect and heal one other. Have you ever heard the term infant mental health? On this podcast episode, we discuss how you, as a parent or caregiver of an infant, can positively shape and support a baby's early social and emotional skills so they are able to build long-lasting connections in the future! You will not want to miss this episode if you are a NICU parent or member of the NICU care team - it is one of my favorite episodes we've done so far!On today's podcast, I am joined by Katie Ross, a Certified Neonatal Occupational Therapist. She is very passionate about positively fostering the development of our specialized NICU population from the earliest stage of life. We discuss infant mental health, what it actually means, and how it applies to our high risk NICU population. We as NICU caregivers in close collaboration with the parents have the ability to positively change the trajectory of the developmental outcomes for our NICU babies. Katie and I are both very passionate about parental involvement and engagement. Together, we discuss tips and offer words of encouragement for parents and NICU care team members on ways we can support, educate, and empower NICU parents to become actively engaged in their infant's daily cares including skin-to-skin care! The theme we focus on is simplicity! Plain and simple, parents of a NICU baby need to be involved, they are the therapy for their infant! Tune in to learn ways we can all work together to foster and encourage parental support and involvement! Studies have shown that parental engagement actually influences the neurobiology of the infant's brain and promotes physiological changes in the parents as well - meaning, with parental contact during skin-to-skin care, levels of oxytocin increase which reduces stress and facilitates increased feelings of comfort and attachment, and leads to positive physiological stability in both the baby and the parents! So please, do not underestimate your role as parents, even if your baby is in the NICU! Continue listening as we educate, guide and empower you to work through your grief, trauma, and fear so you can simply love on your baby. If you are a current or former NICU parent, you will want to listen to this episode. There are so many pieces of information you receive as a NICU parent while your baby is in the NICU and it continues once you bring your baby home. Tune in to hear great recommendations on how to best advocate and help your child while they are in the NICU and especially once they are home to optimize their neurodevelopmental outcomes! For our 17th podcast episode, I continued my discussion with Tracey Kondrasuk-Branker a certified Neonatal Occupational Therapist who has over 22 years of experience with children from birth to 3 years. In this episode, Tracey explains why she started her early developmental online consulting company. We discuss the importance of providing parents with resources and trying to bridge the common gap for NICU families between their time in the NICU and their transition to home. For NICU patients, their follow-up appointments are vital to their long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes. Appropriate follow-ups also help NICU infants achieve all of their developmental milestones. We also discuss the importance of finding appropriate support groups as well as other local, state and national programs that will ensure children receive the best care possible and that all parents feel supported. We provide names of some of the trustworthy NICU support groups currently available that will help parents with the common parental feelings of fear, anxiety, and loneliness that occur once they bring their NICU infants home. We also review how imperative it is that if a parent feels that there is an issues that is not being addressed properly, to never stop advocating for them as well as steps you can take to get the help they need! In our episode, we continue our discussion on kangaroo care by addressing some of the common barriers to kangaroo care and why it may not always be encouraged sooner. We review ways to minimize some of the common obstacles NICUs encounter that may prevent daily kangaroo care for parents. We discuss the assessment for readiness of the infant, parents, and unit for daily skin-to-skin care followed by a review of common limiting factors that may prevent an infant from being able to do kangaroo care due their clinical condition and/or lines and equipment. Finally, I review step-by-step guides for kangaroo care including how to prepare each time and the different transfer methods commonly used. Finally, I offer my top tip on how to pump while doing kangaroo care so it does not inhibit your time to hold your baby skin-to-skin. Tune in to hear a continuation of my conversation with Anese Barnett, a perinatal mental health therapist. You will benefit from listening if you are a NICU mother who has experienced or is currently experiencing the stress and associated trauma of having a baby in the NICU. Or if you are a NICU dad, grandparent, or friend to a NICU Mom and need some tangible advice to help her pause and address her own self care. Members of the NICU care team specifically nurses, NNPs, Neonatologists, and social workers will also hear concrete suggestions on how to support your NICU Moms. Anese and I continued our discussion of maternal ritualistic behaviors and how their loved ones can address their concerns to them in an empathetic and understanding way so they are willing to open up and accept further help. We reviewed the mental and physical ailments associated with trauma if it is not addressed in a healthy and timely manner. Did you know that we as mothers can actually pass our trauma and negativity down to our children if we do not deal with the birth trauma and/or NICU trauma that we endured. Anese offered some great resources for NICU parents or anyone who wants to understand more about NICU trauma and how our body as a whole can be affected for years if it is not dealt with as well as ways to find the therapist that is right for you! Maternal Mental Health is incredibly important and we as Moms tend to not make it a priority. But, I strongly encourage you to listen because I promise you will gain some new insight. Ashley Darcy-Mahoney, PhD, NNP, FAAN, a neonatal nurse practitioner and researcher, has worked throughout her career to advance nursing research, education and practice, with a focus on neonatology, infant health and developmental pediatrics. Her research has led to the creation of programs that improve health and developmental outcomes for at-risk and preterm infants. As an associate professor of nursing and the director of infant research at George Washington University's Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Institute, Dr. Darcy-Mahoney advances the body of research in infant health and developmental outcomes in high-risk infants with a focus on understanding the early brain and development trajectories in this population. In addition to her work with the institute, she conducts interdisciplinary research through “Talk With Me Baby” a multi-agency initiative using the nursing workforce to educate parents in the importance of talking and engaging with their babies in early infancy. Dr. Darcy-Mahoney is a Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Nurse Faculty Scholar and with her most recent grant from the RWJ Foundation, she is pursuing outcomes research in preterm infants by comparing developmental trajectories of children raised in a bilingual environment against those raised in a monolingual environment. She was named among the Top 25 Pediatric Nursing Professors by nursepractitionerschools.com and has earned numerous awards. In this episode, we cover:Ashley's beginnings in nursing and in pre-medWhy she ultimately chose nursing with neonates as a specialtyWhat can you do as a nurse? Our highlights for today include 2 extensive, powerful interviews. One with a young lady from the parish of St. Andrew as she speaks on how her eyes are now open to the lies and gimmickry of the NNP. She displays a very clear understanding of the many issues we face and the clear ineptitude and recklessness of the NNP. She ends by issuing an urgent call to other youths to stand up and fight for Grenada. The second interview is with our Spokesman on Education, Bro. Joseph Andall. He speaks on the current impasse between government and the unions and shares some of NDC's plans and programs for the education sector, and teachers in particular. We also bring you a short statement by former Prime Minister, Tilman Thomas on the situation at the MBIA. Finally, Bro. Tevin Andrews, Caretaker for Carriacou and PM, makes a brief statement on the recent diplomatic blunder by the Minister for Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs and issues an apology to the British High Commissioner on behalf of the people of Grenada. A very exciting program today!

There are so many questions and concerns that come up for NICU parents, but in my experience, once your infant is stabilized, THE most common question on a parent's mind is, when will my baby be able to come home?In this episode, we break it down and answer that question with some common diagnoses of infants in the NICU including extremely preterm infants, very preterm infants, moderately preterm infants, late preterm infants, as well as common conditions for term infants admitted to the NICU including hypoglycemia, respiratory distress, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), and post-surgical cases. We are here to help you during your baby's NICU journey, but each baby and their circumstances are unique, so always stay involved with your baby's care team and continue to ask questions about their plan of care.
If you've suddenly found yourself in the NICU after your baby was born, multiple staff members have probably introduced themselves to you - but who are they? More importantly, what is their role and how will they help my baby or our family? In this episode, we will break down many of the NICU cast members that are on your baby's care team including the Neonatologist, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Dietician, Respiratory Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Social Worker, Chaplain, Lactation Specialist, Palliative Care Team, and the Discharge Planner. After listening, you will have a better understanding of all of the leading and supporting NICU care team members plus what their roles are and and how they will help and guide you and your baby during the NICU journey.
This season on Nonprofit Nuggets, we will focus on recent stories about various nonprofits' missteps and how to avoid some of these mistakes. In this episode of NNP, we discuss severance misappropriation from the Maryland Environmental Service. A severe miscommunication between a former MES CEO, board members, and the Governor of Maryland has left all parties in a lurch, as they debate over who knew what regarding the severance payout arrangement that was (supposedly) in place. We highlight the importance of documentation in everything that you do in order to create a paper trail to hold all involved parties accountable and have enough proof to cover yourself in case there are questions. Thanks for tuning in to this episode of the Nonprofit Nuggets Podcast! If you liked what you heard, please leave a review and share this episode! You've discovered a new podcast for NICU parents that you think may be exactly what you've been searching for, but who is this host? How does she know what I'm going through? What are her credentials? In this episode, Nicole quickly addresses the elephant in the room, who is she? She explains why she became a nurse, her perseverance to work in the NICU, and why she ultimately went onto graduate school to become an NNP. But most importantly, she describes what lead her to start the podcast. She had a complicated pregnancy, followed by an emergent delivery at 23 weeks due to a placental abruption. Listen to how she thought she knew and understood the NICU, but really had no idea.
