Your hosts this episode: Patrique OptimalAudio After a needed break for a terrible year the LOBT pod is back to recap the year in music! In this episode they cover it all from the politically powerful products of Billy Woods, the similar attempts made by Denzel Curry, Drake going off the rails in terms of style, and just not being up to hating that much this year (though there's certainly still plenty to talk about in that regard). As well, the podcast leaves the realm of Rap to also discuss Animal Collective and Beach House's recent great output and Charli XCX slightly slipping this year. Dr. Monica Vermani was inspired to write this book during the Covid-19 Pandemic as she wanted to give people a low-cost option to help them when they were not in the counseling office, or for people who could not afford psychotherapy--this book is full of practical tools, applicable examples, and great knowledge distilled into easily consumable amounts. If you are looking for practical ways to increase your mental well being--then this episode is for you. Dr. Vermani is a positive force for anyone struggling. Dr. Vermani believes that good mental health doesn't just happen, that it deserves the same time, attention, understanding, and effort as our physical wellbeing. To that end, Dr. Vermani's latest book, A Deeper Wellness, and its companion online A Deeper Wellness Life Lessons mental health program provide the tools to create a deep, authentic sense of wellness and wellbeing. After the pandemic threw off touring plans for a few years, many big indie bands are making a 2022 comeback with double albums. Big Thief just delivered their 20-track LP and Kurt Vile recently announced a 90-minute magnum opus. But is Beach House's latest project Once Twice Melody effective as a double album? On this week's Indiecast, Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen talk Beach House's new album (40:57); reminisce on their most vivid festival memories (12:05); and decide it's not too early to argue about The 1975 (6:15).Along with diving into Beach House's Once Twice Melody, Indiecast walks listeners through recently announced weekend-long festival lineups, which thankfully still exist two years into the pandemic. Hangout Fest 2022 hit the mark with Tame Impala, Megan Thee Stallion, Jack Harlow, and Phoebe Bridgers. Beale Street Music Festival took a more eclectic approach by booking a mix bag of performers like Foo Fighters, Lil Wayne, Smashing Pumpkins, Three 6 Mafia, DaBaby, and Modest Mouse (20:30).In this week's Recommendation Corner (52:44), Ian shouts out Pittsburgh band String Machine, whose album Hallelujah Hell Yeah is set to release next week. Steven hypes up Philly four-piece Caracara, an emo band with '90s alt-rock influences who are opening for String Machine on tour later this year.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. "Beach House" are a dream-pop duo formed in 2004 by singer/keyboardist Victoria Legrand and guitarist/keyboardist Alex Scally. The duo came together over a mutual interest in similar musical tastes, with influences ranging from Neil Young to Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. At the time Victoria was already in a band and recruited Alex to play bass, but the project became frustrating for Victoria since it wasn't going anywhere. It wasn't long before Alex suggested that the pair split from the band and do their own thing. They started writing songs and despite not specifically trying to achieve a "dream-pop" sound, it was a genre that could easily be labelled on the music they were writing together. Their first self-titled 2006 release was the result of just 2 days of recording on a 4 track recorder in Alex's basement studio.Since those early days the duo have gone on to put out 7 studio albums and tour the world.Join Jay and Jesse as they explore the sonic world of "Beach House"."Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg

Beach House Once - "Twice Melody" from the 2022 album Once Twice Melody on Sub Pop. As longtime fans and champions of Baltimore-based band Beach House, the excitement over the dream pop duo's partially-released double LP Once Twice Melody is feverish, to say the least. With two of the four chapters already released, it's clear to see Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally have a masterpiece on their hands with their eighth studio record. Our Song of the Day is the album's title track and the lead single off the album. As also the opening track, “Once Twice Melody” sets the dreamy, cinematic mood that Beach House has made their signature over the past 18(?!) years. For the first time, a live string ensemble is brought in to back the sparkling synths and arpeggiated guitar strums, adding lush texture and drama. Legrand's lyrics are similarly illusory, telling the story of a girl who lives in her head - preferring romantic daydreams over the dull realities of life. The third chapter of Once Twice Melody is out this Wednesday, January 19th. The full release is Friday, February 18th with an option of a Limited “GOLD” Edition 2xLP in a gold-embossed, hinged box on gold and clear vinyl with full-color booklet and 2 exclusive posters if you want to go all in. Beach House is (hopefully, depending on Covid) heading out on tour this February, with a date in Seattle on Sunday, April 3rd at the Paramount.
