On this week's show: For the past 13 years, DJ Ramzi has been sharing his deep knowledge and passion for Arabic music with listeners all over the world through his radio show and podcast, “Arabology.” But Ramzi Salti is not just a deejay, he's also an advanced lecturer in the Arabic program at Stanford University. His goal is to expose people to the wide variety of Arabic music, and along the way, push back against the stereotypes and demonization of Arabs and Arab-Americans. KQED's culture reporter Ariana Proehl visited him at Stanford and brings us this story. And we meet musician Hana Vu. She just released her second album and started a North American tour that will end in her hometown of Los Angeles in August. Critics have called her an “an indie-pop prodigy” who's “old beyond her years.” That's because the prolific musician, who started recording and playing shows in her teens, is just 24. Guest host Bianca Taylor talked with Hana Vu about her new album “Romanticism,” and why she chose touring over music school. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
L.A.-based indie artist Hana Vu's sophomore record 'Romanticism' explores the inner workings of her mind at age 22. Working with producer Jackson Phillips (Day Wave), Hana Vu layered synths and beats under her strong vocals and alt-grunge rock leanings on this follow-up to her acclaimed debut LP 'Public Storage.' Her tour stops in Nashville July 30.

As broadcast January 5, 2022 with plenty of mispronounced words for your pod laughs. Tonight we take our first Round Trip with Lizz Kalo to Vietnam because we're basically feeling neither the cold up here in Korea nor speaking languages with any remote sense of self-assuredness. All kidding aside, a great country of music and culture, Vietnam is a great place to go to hear good stuff old & new, which is exactly how we formatted it. First up we spotlighted German boutique label Saigon Supersound and the old funk & soul greats of 1960's & 70's Saigon, then we got to the new generation of young up-and-coming indie musicians to finish off the show for our 2nd hour of programming.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Al Green – You Say ItHung Curong feat Mai La Huyen – Sống Cho NhauChampagne – Funky DoSaigon Soul Revival – Nào Ta Cùng Hát (Patchworks Ashby remix)Carol Kim – Tình Ta Như Lửa Đơm HoaConnie Kim – Lý Luận Tình Yêu Part II (31:55)Thanh Tuyen – Con Gái Của MẹElvis Phuong - Loan Mắt NhungKhanh Ly – Diễm XưaTruc Mai – Sai Gon (1972)Thanh Thúy - Trăng Mờ Bên SuốiHana Vu feat Satchy – Coolmess. feat Ronniboi – before it's gone away Part III (66:25)Ngọt - Cho Tôi Đi TheoPixel Neko - GPS Empty Spaces - Một Cuộc Sống KhácVu Thanh Van - ToriCOcc x Trung Ngon - Xem Như Anh Chẳng MayMeow Lac – Thanh Pho Dung Dua Part IV (99:04)Ba Mươi Phạm - Toàn ThắngChu Tich Kim – Anh Se Yeu Em Den Het Mua Hoa RoiMademoiselle - Loanh QuanhTrinh – Mua thu cho emSISTER'S BARBERSHOP - People who stay aloneLang Lee – The Generation of Tribulation

As broadcast July 20, 2021 with extra underground tunnels for the podcast diggers. We welcome Prince Paolo once again to show off only the freshest & hardest to find gems unearthed over the past week for our Under The Radar Tuesdays once again, and paid tribute to South Africa's legendary Hugh Masekela, who went to #1 on this date in 1968 with "Grazin' In The Grass." Full two hours after that barring the usual fiddle faddle from Danno & Prince Paolo on the air breaks, we have great new joints out from Durand Jones, Unusual Demont, BADBADNOTGOOD, and Korea's very own ADOY to bump amongst others. #feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Ojah feat Hugh Masekela – Afro Beat BluesADOY – BabyInner Wave – Take 3Monogem – Dame La FuerzaBADBADNOTGOOD – Signal from the Noise Part II (35:29)Courrier Sud - Fool Moon Manin - Babyee (feat. somecallmewale)Glassio - Queen Of The Silver CityW H Lung - ShowstopperMakèz feat Allysha Joy - Looking Up Bnny - Sure Part III (64:16)Fortitude Valley - Baby I'm AfraidLindsay Munroe - Weekend LoveRed Telephone - Happy ManHana Vu - MakerThe Lazy Eyes - The IslandUnusual Demont - VANTA Part IV (94:19)Durand Jones & The Indications - The Way That I DoNatalie Bergman - You've Got a WomanSpeelburg - Ttwo HhandsZORILA - PromenadeSam Himself - What Its WorthSea Glass - Pinecone Alley
