Part illustrator, part model maker, part engineer and full time Handsome Frank royalty, paper artist Helen Musselwhite visited our studio for our 20th episode. We catch up with perhaps our most analogue artist to discuss her childhood fascination with model villages, thinking in 3D, and how she uses her photography skills to bring her paper worlds to life. If you haven't seen it yet, you can watch our 'Little Film About...Helen Musselwhite' in full, here. Visit Helen's portfolio page at www.handsomefrank.com
Show notes are available at QueenofPeaches.com. I'm delighted to be in conversation with visual artist and graphic designer Sadie Teper. Sadie is the founder and owner of Twentysome Design. Twentysome is a lady-powered feminist stationery and gift brand. Sadie's design background enables her to create bright and colorful hand-lettered designs that empower and inspire others to spread the message of positive change while still encompassing cheeky wit and feminist fun. We talk about the origin of her brand name; how the text on her first greeting cards was really just an extension of her own inner monologue; how her art classes in college taught her how to not take personal criticism too seriously; the reason why the stationery industry isn't particularly cutthroat; and the big difference between someone suggesting a topic for a card and someone suggesting the exact wording for a card.
Gwyn and Ode talk about paper and all the different ways it can be adapted for use in magic.

Typically when you mention "Ruby" and "template" in the same breath, people will think of ERB. Perhaps even Haml. But did you know that the Ruby ecosystem offers a wide variety of template engines, and quite a few are built upon pure Ruby? In this episode, I break down the main conceptual difference between "string-based templates" such as ERB and "DSLs" such as Papercraft, the various options within each category, and some of the reasons you might want to choose one approach or another depending on your use case. Ever since being awarded the coveted Creative Shield in Year 6 of middle school, Laura Reed was considered the ‘arty' one in the family, and was lucky enough to have a good arts experience at secondary school too. Next came her art foundation course, which took her creative explorations in a different direction than she had originally envisaged. The ebb and flow of going where life takes you continued, as Laura took a job after uni that led to bigger and brighter things in the world of visual merchandising and window designs. As we have seen with other guests, a successful design career often means that your role at work becomes less and less creative, so Laura filled the creative void with her own crafting projects at home.Fast forward to making plans for her wedding, and, out of desire and financial preferences, Laura hand made decorations for the big day, including crafting flowers from paper. Little did she know that this personal project would take her in a different direction again, and that in a few years she would be making paper flowers for other couples' weddings and window displays, publishing a book teaching others all about the craft, and even creating acrylic templates for students of her paper crafting workshops. Life is a funny thing. A collection of stressors and celebrations. I have learned to appreciate them all - in their own little ways. Appreciating everything not only makes it a little easier to manage the times that used to send me into a downward spiral, but it allows me to appreciate the peaceful times even more deeply. It is often darkest before the dawn. When we so badly desire new results, we attract the challenges that make us worthy of reaping the rewards we have asked for. For whatever reason, these challenges rarely show up how we expect. We often reject them and think they keep us from getting what we want. I wonder if we would treat them differently if we knew what was on the other side... that the challenges were the first part of the success we've been asking for...? What if we took the approach that every time something bad happened, that something good was about to happen right after? Would that make the challenges easier to deal with? Would we be able to recover from the 'unexpected' more quickly? What if our pain was part of our pleasure? Coach Nick and I are excited to share this week's conversation with our guest, Janna Willoughby-Lohr. Janna has used the trauma she experienced in her 20's to create a business whose purpose is built into the very fabric of its existence. Her company, Papercraft Miracles, specializes in handcrafted paper art and gifts that bring meaning to people's lives. Janna founded Papercraft Miracles while still in college in 2003 and has been building the brand ever since. She was awarded a $25,000 Ignite Buffalo Small Business Grant in 2018 and was named 40 Under 40 for Stationery & Gifts from Stationery Trends Magazine in 2019. Papercraft Miracles thrived in 2020, despite the pandemic and they have done custom projects for major brands such as Twitter and Capital One. In 2021, the comany landed a contract to create half a million seed bombs to be included in Lowe's Spring Garden Giveaway event across the country. Janna is also very involved in the entrepreneurial space. She is a board member and chairs the membership committee of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Buffalo/Niagara Chapter and is a founding member of the chapter's Diversity & Inclusion Task Force, working to promote equity and representation for all women business owners. She is also the host of Reach the Stars Podcast-- a collection of conversations with cool people who do cool things. Each week, she brings inspiring stories of persistence, passion and purpose. Be sure to check her out! And we hope you enjoy our #truthseekers conversation this week. Enjoy! ~ Coach Josh --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nick-davies7/support

Every crafter has story about a time when a project hasn't quite gone to plan. Maybe you miscalculated the amount of yarn you needed, sewed an arm on the wrong side or tried a crafty make from Pinterest that didn't quite end up looking like the picture! In the first episode of We've Made It, Zoe Williams and Sarah Orme talk about their own personal crafting disasters and share stories sent in by the Gathered community.
