Was dran ist? Retirement Revealed
Behavior-Proof Your Retirement Planning with Ethan Lohr

Retirement Revealed

Author Ethan Lohr shares how the four buckets retirement income strategy helps retirees behavior-proof their retirement. Many retirees face one similar problem that they struggle to name: the emotional shift from saving money to spending it. Retirement typically means going from “decades of saving to decades of retirement where you're spending,” and that transition creates real anxiety for people who want their money to last. Ethan Lohr's answer is not just a better spreadsheet. It's a “behavior-proof approach to reliable retirement income,” designed to help retirees make sound decisions even when fear, uncertainty, or market volatility show up.  Retirement isn't just a financial transition. It's a psychological one.  That mindset shift—from accumulation to distribution—creates anxiety for many retirees. So while the biggest risk retirees often fear is a market drop, oftentimes the greater risk is a struggle to change your behavior. The Real Risk in Retirement Markets fall. Headlines scream. Fear creeps in. Suddenly people make decisions they wouldn't normally make—selling investments, abandoning a plan, or withdrawing too little money because they're afraid to spend. That's why Ethan calls his framework a “behavior-proof approach to reliable retirement income.” The goal isn't just building a portfolio that works mathematically. The goal is building a system that still works when emotions show up. Because they always do. The Four Buckets of Retirement Income To help retirees think through their income strategy, Ethan uses a four-bucket framework. Most people are familiar with the idea of dividing money by time horizon. But Ethan's approach focuses more on the source of income rather than just the timing. The four buckets include: 1. Cash ReservesShort-term funds designed to cover near-term spending and provide stability during market fluctuations. 2. Earned IncomeSome retirees continue to work part-time, consult, or pursue a business venture. This income can reduce pressure on investment withdrawals. 3. Secure IncomeReliable income streams such as Social Security, pensions, or annuity payments. Ethan makes an interesting observation about this category. Many people say they dislike annuities, yet they happily accept Social Security each month. “Virtually every American has an annuity right now called Social Security,” he noted. 4. Growth and Legacy InvestmentsLong-term investments designed for growth, flexibility, and potentially leaving assets to heirs. The goal isn't to split assets evenly among these buckets. Instead, the framework helps retirees understand where their income will come from and whether their plan aligns with their comfort level. Why Frameworks Matter One of the most helpful parts of Ethan's approach is that it provides structure. Without structure, retirement decisions can feel overwhelming. Every market move, every headline, every conversation with a friend can trigger doubt. A framework helps retirees answer a simple question: Where is my income coming from? Once that question is clear, the rest of the planning process becomes easier. The Spending Gap Another interesting challenge Ethan discussed is what advisors often call the retirement spending gap. When retirees are surveyed, most say they want their money to help them live the life they want. But when you look at their actual withdrawals, many spend far less than they could comfortably afford. They say they want to enjoy retirement. But their behavior suggests they're afraid to. Ethan describes the solution as helping retirees “live fully.” In other words, the goal of retirement planning isn't just preserving wealth. It's helping people feel confident enough to actually use it. Retirement Is About More Than Math Retirement planning often focuses on investment returns, withdrawal rates, and tax strategies. Those are important. But they aren't the whole story. Retirement also involves psychology, identity, and the emotional shift from saving to spending. A plan that only works on paper isn't enough. The best retirement plans are designed to work with human behavior—not against it. That's what makes them truly durable. And that's what makes them behavior-proof.

„Is‘ scho‘ wieder Silvester? Dr. Christian von Lähr, a gifted clairvoyant, metaphysical researcher, and expert in Nature People lore, delves deep into the enchanting question: Are Leprechauns real? Drawing on decades of intuitive investigation, ancient Celtic tradition, and firsthand accounts of elemental encounters, Dr. von Lähr explores the possibility that Leprechauns are not merely whimsical legends, but manifestations of an older, hidden realm intertwined with our own. His work examines how these elusive beings—keepers of earth energies, protectors of natural portals, and masters of subtle dimensional shifts—may interact with humanity more often than we realize. With his signature blend of scholarship, psychic insight, and spiritual sensitivity, Dr. von Lähr brings clarity, credibility, and intrigue to one of folklore's most enduring mysteries, inviting listeners to reconsider what is myth, what is metaphor, and what may, in fact, be real.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. Margo sits down with artist, writer, and creative director Amy Lohr to talk about the nonlinear, magical, and sometimes messy journey of reclaiming your creative voice. Amy shares how a personal "creative awakening" helped her move through body dysmorphia and social anxiety, and how painting, writing, and photography became tools for healing and deeper self-understanding. They explore the spiritual and practical sides of creativity—from living off-grid in Hawaii, to writing her book Like the Sun at Midday, to embracing curiosity in all its unexpected forms (yes, including papier-mâché and xylophones). Amy also dives into the power of branding and storytelling, and how she helps entrepreneurs and visionaries express the heart of their work with clarity and soul. Margo and Amy Discuss: Amy's personal creative awakening and how it reshaped her life Moving through body dysmorphia and social anxiety via self-expression Following odd, intuitive creative pulls (like new mediums and playful experiments) Her time living off-grid in Hawaii and the spiritual experiences that shaped her artistry The influence of mentors—including a counterculture elder with childhood ties to Bobo the gorilla Writing Like the Sun at Midday and what it taught her about listening, presence, and surrender The real "soft skills" behind creative confidence: courage, slowness, vulnerability, being seen How branding and storytelling help creatives express their essence and connect with their audience Why your art matters not just for you, but for the world Connect with Amy:  Website: www.amyinfullcolor.comBook: www.likethesunatmidday.com Instagram: @amyinfullcolor Connect with Margo: www.windowsillchats.comwww.instagram.com/windowsillchats www.patreon.com/inthewindowsill https://www.yourtantaustudio.com/thefoundry

From poet to paper artist and conscious entrepreneur, Janna Willoughby-Lohr shares how she built a purpose-driven company that proves creativity and sustainability can spark community, connection, and real economic change.Janna is the founder and lead artist of Papercraft Miracles, an eco-friendly handmade paper art studio in Buffalo, New York, creating everything from plantable seed paper to realistic paper flowers for clients like Lionel Richie, Lowe's, Pinterest, and Capital One. Named a Top 10 NAWBO Woman Business Owner of the Year and featured on discovery+'s Meet Your Makers Showdown, Janna has carved out a powerful space in the art and business world by choosing impact over unchecked growth. Her journey began with financial limitations that led her to Warren Wilson College, where she unexpectedly discovered the book arts department and experienced a spiritual awakening through papermaking. When traditional programs failed to support her vision, she built her own major, combining business, creative arts, and social work, at just nineteen years old. That innovative mindset taught her early on that artists don't just need technical skill, they need communication, confidence, and courage to own their voice. In our conversation, Janna dismantles the myth that artists can't thrive financially and challenges the toxic “fempreneur” culture selling unrealistic success. Instead, she offers a framework of conscious entrepreneurship grounded in sustainability, community, and stakeholder-focused models like B Corps. She shares practical insights on scaling with intention, overcoming imposter syndrome, and designing businesses that honor both people and the planet. We also dive into authenticity in leadership, the evolution of women's roles in business, and the rising demand for connection in a digital age. Janna's work proves that handmade, meaningful experiences can combat isolation and rebuild community, and that women entrepreneurs are uniquely positioned to lead this shift. This episode is an inspiring reminder that your creativity, your voice, and your vision matter more than perfection.Tune in to hear how Janna is redefining success and lighting the path for purpose-driven founders everywhere.Chapters

They then talked about The Indianapolis 500 which Dave will attend for the twenty-eighth straight time in May of 2025. This started Paul and Dave on the main theme of the podcast which was talking about sports and the many amazing sporting events that Dave has attended with family and friends. They did talk about him growing up in western Maryland, going to parochial school, playing baseball and basketball and having a great group of friends. His love of sports almost started him down a different career path, but after attending VaTech, he worked at DuPont where he would meet his wife Diane. Dave finished by talking about his family including he and Diane's two kids, their spouses and their three grandsons. Paul finished by saying that he thinks Dave is the biggest sports fan he has ever talked to!

The DTC Wine Symposium Podcast Extravaganza – Part 2: The Wines and the People of Monterey County Okay, we admit it—we're Sonoma homers. Occasionally, we branch out and interview someone from Napa (gasp!). But despite our regional prejudices, the growers and winemakers of Monterey County welcomed the podcast crew—not to mention 700+ DTC Wine Symposium attendees—with open arms! Jokes aside, the Monterey County wine community were fantastic hosts all week long. We were lucky enough to sit down with friend of the pod, Adam Lee—a longtime proponent of Monterey fruit—and let him guide us through a fascinating conversation with some luminaries of the Monterey wine scene. Adam introduced us to legendary grower Gary Franscioni, owner of ROAR Wines, who helped develop and farm the vineyards that put the Santa Lucia Highlands on the winemaking map. We also met Sabrine Rodems, winemaker at the acclaimed Wrath Wines and owner/winemaker of Scratch Wines—an awesome lineup of wines that scratched an itch for the acid-driven, racy wine lovers among us. And we spoke with Rhonda Motil, VP of Marketing at J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, a family-owned winery with deep roots in the region. Jerry Lohr was one of the first to believe in Monterey's potential back in the early ‘70s, and today, J. Lohr continues to produce intricate, terroir-driven wines from over 4,000 planted acres. Of course, this was just a fraction of Monterey County's wine story. Steeped in agricultural history, the Salinas River Valley and surrounding hillsides make up one of the most important farming regions in the country—possibly the world. We learned about the power of the Monterey Canyon, the vast and deep submarine trench off the coast that plays a defining role in the region's climate. We also explored the rapid shifts in temperature, soil composition, and terroir that unfold as you travel north-south and east-west across this fertile wonderland. All in all, we hope we didn't make total fools of ourselves—because the wines were beautiful, the vineyards were stunning, and the people were fantastic. Here's hoping they invite us back! Leaving the high-stakes world of government defense contracting isn't something many do on a whim, but that's exactly what Brick Lohr did after a life-changing trek along the Appalachian Trail. What was meant to be a brief stop in Asheville turned into a winding adventure through the local music scene, sparking new friendships and opportunities. Brick's candid account of this journey sheds light on the courage it takes to walk away from a steady paycheck and embrace a world fueled by passion for live music—a world that feels more like home than any corporate office ever did. Brick's vision for the Ramble Festival is more than just a lineup of bands; it's a carefully crafted community space where authenticity thrives. From the vibrant art installations and second line parades to a one-of-a-kind busking competition for up-and-coming musicians, the festival is designed to be a holistic celebration of music and human connection. This conversation unpacks the thoughtful decisions—like selecting bands only after witnessing their live energy—that make this event a true reflection of shared musical experiences and genuine connection. But it isn't all easygoing vibes and musical harmony; challenges like limited budgets and slow ticket sales test the festival's resilience. Yet, through these hurdles, Brick's dream persists, held up by the festival's community-first ethos and the return of participants who cherish the festival's atmosphere over any headliner. Our discussion also touches on how the festival's inclusive nature, accommodating families and children, fosters a timeless sense of wonder that transcends generations.
