In Australia, the two most famous racehorses are Fine Cotton and Phar Lap but for opposite reasons.  When a handful of colourful racing types attempted to swap the poor horse Fine Cotton, for the much faster Dashing Solitaire, it all seemed so easy. What followed was an inept, sometimes tragic, sometimes hilarious slow-moving disaster, with a mystery still at the heart of it. We had the pleasure of interviewing Between You & Me over Zoom video!Fresh from the frenzy of their sold-out intimate headline tour, Australia's Between You & Me (BYAM) have today shared their brand new single and music video, “YEAH!” Opening with sunny acoustic chords reminiscent of early 2000s radio hits, “YEAH!” bursts into a feel-good verse carried by the distinct vocals of frontman Jake Wilson before moving into what is perhaps the band's most pronounced singalong chorus yet. In line with its bright and upbeat sound.Jake says the song is about “living your best life and not caring what anyone else thinks. I imagine this song playing in the montage scene of an early 2000s bratty comedy film. Stylistically it's a big shift for BYAM, but we wanted to bring beachy summer vibes to a fun and carefree song.”The band teamed up once again with Canadian producer Sam Guaiana (Armageddon - 2021), who flew to Australia earlier this year to record with the band at Beveridge Road Recording Studios in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges.“YEAH!” is the band's second independent release, and follows their addictive February single “Nevermind” which, on their recent run of intimate headline shows, proved to be a new fan favorite. Sonically “Nevermind” earmarked a new era for BYAM, and according to the band perfectly captured “the spirit of our band and our live show.” The single was swiftly added to rotation on triple j, and arrived ahead of a massive stint in the USA supporting Knuckle Puck and Real Friends, followed by an Australian tour joining Slowly Slowly on the road upon their return. BYAM also joined You Me At Six and Set It Off on their recent Australian run.In 2021, Between You & Me's acclaimed record Armageddon (Hopeless Records) took the band to new heights, featuring hit singles “Deadbeat”, “Butterflies”, “Change” and “Go To Hell” ft. Mikaila Delgado of Yours Truly. The electrifying 10-track record landed as triple j's Spotlight Album on release, alongside an interview on the station's Breakfast program, and has since clocked up over 13.5million global streams in addition to support from BBC Radio 1 (UK), Spotify, and more. To celebrate the album, Between You & Me stepped out on their biggest headline Australian tour in 2022, finishing with a milestone sold-out hometown show at Melbourne's The Corner Hotel. As the year drew to a close, the band took to the USA, joining American pop punk outfit State Champs on an extensive month-long run. With new singles “YEAH!” and “Nevermind” minting BYAM's newly independent era, the band are more motivated than ever to continue their global takeover. Fans both at home and abroad can expect more new music and touring news to come.We want to hear from you! In 1983, synthpop bands were big business on the Australian music scene, with Kids In The Kitchen snapped up by Mushroom Records imprint White Label Records. The band's singer, Scott Carne, and drummer, Bruce Curnow, discuss how weekend jam sessions quickly led to gigs and that record company interest. Hits followed, with "Change In Mood" and "Bitter Desire" both reaching the top 20, but a dispute over the music video for the latter led to two original members being asked to leave. With replacement members in position, more hits (including "Something That You Said" and "Current Stand") and platinum-selling debut album Shine made KITK one of the hottest bands in the country. But then the wheels started to come off, with under-performing singles ("Out Of Control", "Say It" and "Revolution Love") from second album Terrain, which was released after a disastrous trip to the US. Following the demise of the band, Scott was involved in two very different musical projects, but now, he and Bruce reunite with other KITK members for occasional concerts (including an upcoming show at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne).Bonus material at chartbeats.com.au/aussieTwitter: @ChartBeatsAU, @TurnAroundOnJoyInstagram: @chartbeatsau, @joyturnbeataroundEmail: chartbeats.au@gmail.com

Melbourne rock outfit Dead City Ruins are preparing for "the biggest, most ambitious shows on home soil to date" this weekend, when they finally get to hold the official launch parties for last years album Shockwave.Another typically hard rocking slab of goodness from Dead City Ruins, Shockwave also marked the debut album for vocalist Steve Welsh. Although Welsh had been performing live with the band for a number of years, Shockwave marks the first time he has contributed vocals to an album, making this weekend's launch shows even more important. With shows at Sydney's Factory Floor on November 11 and the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on November 12, Welsh stopped by for a chat with HEAVY to let us in on what to expect."These shows are album launch shows," Welsh affirmed, "so Shockwave, the album, will be launching this weekend which is very exciting."We press Welsh on the claim that these are the most ambitious shows on home soil to date, which he stood by emphatically."Yes, I would say so," he nodded quickly. "As we always do we've put a lot of effort into our shows, but with this one we've gone through everything and figured out what's going to be the best experience, tried to add in a few things that we haven't done before which will be a bit of a surprise when you are at the show. I would say they're definitely going to be the best shows we've done on home soil to this date."In the full interview, Steve talks more about the shows and what to expect, the reception to Shockwave, which songs from the album go down best live, mixing his songs with the back catalogue and how easy it is to transition, settling in to the role as frontman, their recent support with KISS, what tips DCR picked up from working with them, new music and more.

"For one it's turning ten so we obviously wanna celebrate that, but it's a really good opportunity for us," beamed Craig Mabbitt, vocalist for Escape the Fate on the eve of their Australian tour where they will be playing This War is Ours in its entirety plus a selection of their greatest hits. "Funnily enough my very first tour with Escape the Fate was Australia so for us to come full circle ten years later and for us to have the opportunity to come out there and play this album front to back to celebrate where we've been, where we've come from; the past, the present and the future is a really cool opportunity that we're all looking forward to."It would be fair to say no band ever plans on playing any of their albums in their entirety at any stage of their career when they are working on it, and Mabbitt laughs when asked if that was the case with This War is Ours."When you're in the studio writing an album you're not really thinking about the longevity of it," he smiled. "It's more like man, I hope this ends up being the biggest album with the biggest songs in the world and ends up taking over the whole world, that's kind of all you're thinking (laughs) but at the end of the day to have the album and more so the songs on an album that can touch fans for a decade but has also gained new fans is really cool."In the attached audio listen to Mabbitt go more in-depth on This War is Ours and if he thinks the messages pointed out on that album have resonated over the last decade, the troubles he went through as the new vocalist on that album plus the way he dealt with criticism, as well as the correlations between that album and their latest, I Am Human.May 28 - Amplifier Bar, PerthMay 29 - Fowlers Bar, AdelaideMay 30 - Corner Hotel, RichmondMay 31 - Max Watts, MelbourneJune 1 - Manning Bar, CamperdownJune 2 - Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle WestJune 3 - The Triffid, NewsteadKris Peters1AQ

"We definitely work on it," agreed Circa Survive guitarist Colin Frangicetto on their live performance. "I think throughout the years - we've been a band now for fourteen years, believe it or not -and I think over the course of that time we've gotten more efficient as players, as creators, as friends, as performers and essentially our live show just gets better and better. I think we are more connected to each other and the people that support us and enjoy our music have kind of set us free in that we don't have any of these weird head trips that a lot of other people so thoughts like Am I relevant? Do people care about what I'm doing? Just all those weird things that people who make music go through."Throughout their career, Circa Survive have always advocated the little man. They are a band who are genuinely there for their fans, with Frangicetto saying to this day each member still remembers where they came from."We created this band from nothing," he said with pride. "One day it was a dream and now it's reality. When you take that feeling of doing that; which is truly one of the most amazing, powerful feelings you can feel as a human being, and kind of spread that around to everybody and say hey, whatever it is you want to do, whatever it is you want to be in this world, you can do that. Especially if we can do it. If we can do it, you can do it. That's the way we see it."To hear Frangicetto discuss the tour, the way the band approach the writing process for new albums, their early vision and how they grew into what they are today and an in-depth discussion on the depths and complexities of the band plus more, tune in to the attached audio.Circa Survive tour dates:May 24 - The Gov, AdelaideMay 25 - Corner Hotel, MelbourneMay 26 - Factory Theatre, SydneyMay 28 - The Zoo, BrisbaneMay 30 - Rosemount Hotel, Perth

They have just completed a national tour in support of Violent Soho, playing some of their biggest shows to date; and this week saw them release their second studio album, Introverted Extroverts. But how did these two Novocastrian weirdos make it onto a national stage with little more than a floor tom, a snare drum and a guitar? Some of the first music I ever loved in my life was that of Peter Combe. My parents purchased Toffee Apple on vinyl before I was in school. I still love many songs on that record today. In the last three days I’ve both seen Peter live in concert and now spoken with him, face to face, on the virtues of happiness. It’s a brief chat, but it’s insightful. Peter’s most well known songs are targeted towards children. Over time these children grow up, and I was one of many who was able to have a couple of beers whilst dancing and singing away with songs such as Spaghetti Bolognese and Newspaper Mama.I was fascinated to hear his thoughts on happiness and how that of kids differs to that of adults. We talk songwriting, war and a whole lot more. Join us!Recorded in the foyer of the bustling Hawthorn Town Hall, I hope you perceive the cafe background ambience as pleasant! I noticed that for the second time in three episodes I’ve mentioned Andrew Bolt…….I can’t promise that it won’t happen again but it has been noted!!!The folk singers of the sixties such as Peter Paul & Mary, Simon & Garfunkel form the core of Peter’s musical influences and you’ll catch their works in the updated Ever-growing Playlist of Joy, which you can follow on Spotify.
