Stella and Sasha welcome author and podcaster, Phil Illy, to the show for a thought-provoking conversation on sexuality, identity, and self-understanding. They engage with Phil's concept of auto-heterosexuality, explore his interpretation of "erotic target identity inversion," and examine how these theories relate to broader discussions around sexuality and identity. As the discussion evolves, Stella and Sasha offer their critiques and challenge Phil's framework, pushing for a deeper understanding of these complex concepts.Phil Illy is the author of Autoheterosexual: Attracted to Being the Other Sex, a provocative exploration of sexuality, identity, and gender. In his book, Phil introduces the concept of auto-heterosexuality, describing an attraction to oneself as the opposite sex, and expands upon theories such as "erotic target identity inversion," originally coined by Dr. Ray Blanchard. With a focus on unconventional sexual interests and their psychological underpinnings, Phil's work challenges conventional frameworks and evokes critical examination into the complexities of desire, identity, and human behavior. In addition to his book, Phil is also the host of the Autohetero Files podcast, where he platforms personal stories and discussions that resonate with the ideas and concepts explored in his work.In this episode, listeners can expect to hear a dynamic and often intense conversation, with Stella and Sasha asking difficult questions and exploring the psychological and relational implications of the ideas Phil presents. They dig into both the intellectual and emotional dimensions of the topics at hand. Whether you agree or disagree with the perspectives shared, this episode will leave you with plenty to consider, exploring the deeper questions surrounding identity, desire, and the psychological aspects of sexual behavior. For links and resources relevant to this episode, access the full show notes at https://www.widerlenspod.com/p/episode-195 Buy Our Book – When Kids Say They're Trans: A Guide for Thoughtful Parents at https://whenkidssaytheyretrans.com/ Join Our Listener Community to Access Exclusive Content at https://www.widerlenspod.com/ Support the Show at https://www.widerlenspod.com/p/support-the-show Join the conversation on YouTube at www.youtube.com/@widerlenspod For more information about Sasha's & Stella's parent coaching membership groups, visit:Sasha Ayad: https://sashaayad.com/parenting-coaching Stella O'Malley: http://www.stellaomalley.com/parent-coaching To learn more about our sponsors, visit:Therapy First at https://www.therapyfirst.org/ Genspect at https://genspect.org/ This is a public episode. I wonder if you had any insights on the influence of animé on the transgender community. I previously told you about my lifelong gender dysphoria. I had it under control for many years, but after years in a toxic relationship with a psychopath, which destroyed my sense of self and a serendipitous recommendation from my daughter to watch the animé movie Kimi No Nawa (Your Name), which features body/gender swapping between the main characters Taki and Mitsuha, I had a serious mental breakdown which triggered my gender transition at age 64. The director. Makoto Shinkai was deeply influenced by the manga Inside Mari, which also featured a gender swapping plot. I happened to later listen to a podcast by Sasha Ayad, who specializes in treating gender dysphoria in teens. She mentions in the podcast that some of her patients were influenced by watching animé. I had never heard of that connection nor is my viewing of animé broad enough to know of any other instances of gender swapping/bending in the genre. Do you know of other such animé? What is your opinion about the influence of animé on the transgender community?" Well Mrs. Anonymous thanks for the donation and topic. That podcast you sent me I put in the description. It's between two female psychologists that discuss their clients that are transgendered and what made them that way. I also put a conversation with Jordan Peterson and Joe Rogan as the not so mystery link. In both interviews they discuss Dr. Ray Blanchard a doctor in Toronto that mapped out characteristics of trans people in the 80s and 90s. He pointed out that there were two types of transexuals. The ones that were homosexual and the other group that were autogynephilics. Peterson says that only after 30 to 40 years later did Blanchard's research become controversial. He was cancelled for his life work trying to understand trans people. As for the podcast you sent me the two women in it did say that many of their clients triggered gender dysphoria because they watched things like sissy hypno. Even the transmaxxing manifesto suggests that gender dysphoria can be induced by watching sissy hypno content on adult websites. If you have to ask what that is then it's not for you. So Mrs. Anonymous it looks like the film Kimi no Na wa, an 2016 Japanese animated film where a teenage boy and teenage girl in high school swap bodies finally set you off and you transitioned. It was a huge hit and made 380 million dollars worldwide. I think that to understand if certain types of anime can induce gender dysphoria we have to look at the different types of trans people and what gets each group to transition. The ones that are autogynopheliacs are probably the easiest to understand because they get turned on by putting on women's clothing. The second group 80% are gay and usually incredibly feminine and girlish as boys. They typically have high voices and female friends circle. 20% of that second group are not gay and the two female psychologists just call them weird. They also identify a 4th category and say they are scared soft and gentle. Mrs. anonymous you're probably in group 3 or 4. They claim that those groups tend to have men that are bright and a little autistic. That's what Kat the Vat, the content creator with the main transmaxxing channel out there pointed out that incels which tend to be on the autistic side are more likely to question their sexuality. This week I'm speaking with Ray Blanchard, a psychologist, sexologist, who coined the term autogynephilia to describe those men that identify as women, often transitioning to live as women, who get a sexual excitement from imagining themselves as women. And of course, this has got him into trouble from trans extremists. When he praised a book The Man Who Would Be Queen by Michael Bailey he got into even more trouble.Ray is fascinating because he also has a lot to say about whether or not being same-sex attracted is immutable, and also about various paraphilias or kinks as they are often referred to.I visited Ray Blanchard at his home in Toronto, not that far away from Kenneth Zucker's home, who I had interviewed the week before. On this podcast we often explore the gender crisis affecting today's young and vulnerable people. Today we bring on a different perspective from Phil Illy, a man who self-identifies as autogynephilic, meaning that he experiences a sexual attraction to the idea of himself as a woman. Originally described by sexologist Ray Blanchard, autogynephilia is a common contributor to gender dysphoria in young men. Yet the sexual component of “gender identity” is rarely addressed in the process of diagnosing and reviewing “treatment options” for gender dysphoria. Why is this?Phil considers autogynephilia, as well as its counterpart in women, autoandrophilia, to belong to a broader category he calls autoheterosexuality. While many in the gender critical community consider these to be sexual fetishes, Phil refers to them instead as sexual orientations. Within that framework, he researched the issue extensively and wrote a book on the subject, Autoheterosexual: Attracted to Being the Other Sex.Phil makes several further assertions in this interview, while I play devil's advocate and push back, all in an attempt to bring understanding to listeners who are concerned for loved ones and expose both sides of the debate over this taboo topic. What does femininity mean to him? Is autoheterosexuality just another form of narcissism? What is its connection with autism? How influenced is it by fetish pornography and niche online microcultures? Would it occur in a cultural vacuum? Is it heritable? How can it be a sexual orientation if it doesn't involve another person; isn't it just a fetish? Are “autohet” people capable of sustaining meaningful romantic relationships with others? How are their platonic relationships and quality of life? Are self-aware autogynephilic men threats to women, and under what conditions can we peacefully coexist?UPDATE: this episode was recorded prior to Phil's appearance at the Genspect conference in Denver, which became the subject of much heated debate on X. I was not at the conference, but have weighed in online to some degree. Things got so heated around this issue I have temporarily locked my account. The best commentary I have found on the debacle comes from the ever-admirable Heather Heying on her blog, Natural Selections: The Public Fetish.Phil Illy is a self described autogynephile and the author of Autoheterosexual: Attracted to Being the Other Sex. Phil received degrees in physics and mechanical engineering before retiring to Portland, Oregon, where he became best known for his skill at handstand twerking and juggling hula hoops. Joseph Burgo is a psychoanalyst and author and a co-director of Genspect, an organization representing thousands of parents of children caught up in the ongoing transgender social contagion. The organizatioin now seeks to supplant the World Professional Association of Transgender Health as an authoritative source of guidance for how to deal with gender dysphoric youth. Burgo gave a talk at the Genspect: the Bigger Picture conference in April, held concurrently and in the same city as the annual gathering of the European branch of WPATH, titled Autogynephilia, and the Sexualization of Shame which I published at this Substack last month. We had a conversation presented here in podcast form, soon to be posted at the Year Zero YouTube channel, which I encourage everyone to follow, as I'll be posting videos there more regularly. As always, full transcripts of audio interviews are available to paid subscribers. Year Zero is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Some excerpts: Wesley YangLet's talk about the standard definition of what autogynephilia is. How did we come to know that this was a condition at all and what is it?Joseph BurgoIt's very simple, it's men's sexual arousal at the idea or image of themselves as a woman. They are what we used to think as fetishistic cross-dressers — men who dress up in women's clothes and get off on it sexually. We know this from Ray Blanchard, who came up with the two types of transsexuals, the homosexual transsexual and the autogynephilic transsexual. Mike Bailey wrote about it, and Anne Lawrence did an exhaustive study on autogynephilia. What I find really frustrating is that these histories are really accounts of a fetish. I think of what Anne Lawrence wrote as the account of a fetish. It's all about the fetish — the history of the fetish, when it appeared, how it affects their sex life and their relationships, with no sense that it means something. I mentioned in my paper that Anne Lawrence had collected all this data, and then deleted the lengthy family histories of these guys, as if it were peripheral to her study. I find it enormously frustrating. But I do think that's the way the mental health profession is these days. The idea that symptoms have meaning, that they might have an unconscious significance that can be sorted out; that it's a way of resolving internal conflict, or it represents some defensive compromise. People don't think that way anymore, I do feel kind of like a dinosaur these days.Wesley YangIn liberal enclaves like this, especially in ones that are surrounded by red hinterlands, they just accept the next new thing immediately. They don't question them. “Yeah, being born in the wrong body? That makes perfect sense to us.”Were you already in tension and crisis with peers and with the school administration as a result?Joseph BurgoWe didn't have much to do with the school administration. I was set back, and I didn't really know how to cope with this. I approached the people that I thought would help. I think I speak for parents all over America who are having exactly this experience: the mental health professionals will tell you that you need to affirm your child's identity, and you're a bigot. We consulted with the endocrinologist just to get an idea of what the reality was of these drugs. I said to her, just in passing, that it's kind of frustrating that I can't find anybody who's willing to look at the mental health aspects of this, what else might be going on. She looked at me with utter contempt, and said, “You're not going to find that.” Like, “What an outlandish idea that there's a meaning to these symptoms.” It was really humiliating and awful.Wesley YangIncredible. You're a credentialed medical professional within this field, a colleague, and you have standing within that community. The consensus had coalesced to the point where your reflexive belief that, “of course, no one is born in the wrong body,” had already made you a pariah.Joseph BurgoTotally. This has a chilling effect on the profession. A number of people at the conference talked about this, and I know lots of people who won't go anywhere near gender because it's just too fraught. Or they've jumped on the affirmative bandwagon and have built practices affirming children, which is unconscionable to me, but they do it.Wesley YangThere are many states that have bans, I guess North Carolina doesn't, on what they call conversion therapy. Meaning if you help a child be comfortable in their own body, you are converting them from this fleeting psychological sense that they might be a member of the opposite sex, which we're going to reify and entrench as if it's their true identity and any deviation from it is a crime.Joseph BurgoWhich is an absolutely insane position. It's actually the opposite of what's true. One of the things I'm very upset about is that a lot of these gender nonconforming kids who would grow up to be gay or lesbian are being converted to trans. That's the real conversion therapy. I used to sit on the board of directors and was an officer and friends with everybody at my LGBT center where I live. When I dove into this space, I gave them an article I'd written and I said, “Do you want me to step down?” These are my friends and they said, “Yes, please go away.” They'd all jumped on board with the trans thing. It's the LGBT Center but now everything is trans. This was my big question: what if they're gay and not trans. And I'm treated like, “Go away.”Wesley YangYou're still able to practice. They didn't cancel and destroy you, or they didn't try to, or they didn't succeed at it.Joseph BurgoThe fortunate thing is that I'm at a point in my career where I have enough money. I'm in private practice. They can't really cancel me. What are they going do to me?Joseph BurgoAnd it justifies any kind of violence on your behalf, coming from you. The book I want to write next is really an update of Lasch. He diagnosed America famously as suffering from a narcissistic disorder. I think what we've got now is a culture that suffers from borderline personality disorder. My most recent essay, Living In An As If World, looks at the way this kind of detachment from reality, this “as if” existence that we're living where you can just make it up as you go along, is leading to detachment from reality, but also, increasingly, borderline behavior where borderline rage, vicious assaults, attempts to destroy people, which is kind of what borderlines are like, is widespread. It dominates Twitter, for sure. Twitter is like nonstop borderline rage all the time. I do think there's a cultural pathology that's gotten much, much worse. Even though I say the tide has turned, I think, “Can we really pull out? Can we pull back when the society is this ill?” I don't know.Wesley YangWhat is borderline personality disorder and how do you see it manifesting in the culture?Joseph BurgoThe personality disorders, particularly borderline personality disorder, are characterized by an unstable sense of self that vacillates back and forth between feeling like you're superior and feeling like you're trash. It's unstable emotional states, frequent outbursts of rage, when you are challenged or when you aren't validated. These people are prone to various kinds of addictions. They have a hard time forming realistic and lasting relationships. They tend to blow up their friendships and family relationships. These features sound, to me, a lot like the way trans rights activists behave. They really are the embodiment of a cluster B personality disorder, particularly borderline personality disorder. If you take it just on the way people respond to one another in space, the way people will be enraged about nothing and take other people down. They will feel slighted and go off in an explosive way. I think social media really is characterized by borderline kinds of communication. This is a public episode. Psychologist Ray Blanchard has spent his life studying transgenderism and other paraphilias. His knowledge and expertise have made him a major target for woke activists, but he has not been silenced or intimidated. Dr. Blanchard and Charlie have a deep hour-long conversation on how there are two types of transgenders, the proper way to treat children with gender dysphoria, and why transgenderism seems to have become so much more pervasive in the past few years.Support the show: http://www.charliekirk.com/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ray and Yana are up to amazing things. They aren't scared to tackle the seemingly impossible. Both have incredible stories and on this episode of The Your Life! Your Terms! Show we dive into Ray's idea to turn a beat-down commercial property in Windsor into a modern residential multi-unit. And he didn't stop there ... he's using the solar power from the roof to run some Bitcoin miners in the utility room which then heat the water for the building! Unbelievable! Enjoy the episode!
Dr. Blanchard is widely known for his typology of transexuals and as the originator of the term Autogynephilia, a controversial paraphilia which describes a heterosexual male's propensity to be sexually aroused by the idea of themselves as women. Dr. Blanchard was the psychologist in the Adult Gender Identity Clinic at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry—now part of the CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health)—from 1980–1995. Much of his research in those 15 years concerned transsexualism and milder forms of gender identity disorders. In 1995, he was appointed Head of the newly created Clinical Sexology Services at the CAMH. This unit comprised the Adult Gender Identity Clinic. Since his retirement, he has continued to be active in research on human sexuality.

Dr. Ray Blanchard is Back & Sandra Currie has something to say!! Dr. Ray Blanchard was Head of Clinical Sexology Services in the Law and Mental Health Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Ontario from 1995 to 2010. He is currently an adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada. He received his A.B. in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967 and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1973. He then took up a Killam Postdoctoral Fellowship awarded by Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he remained until 1976, investigating learning processes in animals. In 1976 he accepted a position as a clinical psychologist at the Ontario Correctional Institute in Brampton, Ontario. While there, he made the acquaintance of the prominent sex researcher Kurt Freund, M.D., D.Sc., who introduced him to research on paraphilias, gender identity disorders, and sexual orientation. Blanchard joined the Gender Identity Clinic at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry (now part of the CAMH) in 1980. Much of his research in the next 15 years concerned transsexualism and milder forms of gender identity disorders. In 1995, he was appointed Head of the newly created Clinical Sexology Services at the CAMH. This unit comprised the Gender Identity Clinic and the Kurt Freund Laboratory. This laboratory is the oldest in North America for the psychophysiological assessment of erotic interests in sexual offenders and other men with problematic sexual behavior. This type of assessment (variously called phallometric testing or penile plethysmography) is one of the few available procedures for diagnosing paraphilias in sexual offenders who verbally deny anomalous erotic interests. He retired from the CAMH in 2010. In 2004, he served as President of the International Academy of Sex Research. From 2008–2012 he was a member of the Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Work Group for the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. He was an Associate Editor of Sexual Abuse: A Journal of Research and Treatment from 2003–2010, and he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Archives of Sexual Behavior since 1990. In 2010, he received a Significant Achievement Award from the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, and in 2017, he received the Richard Green Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Academy of Sex Research.. The theory of Autogynephilia is one of the more controversial and much neglected aspects of the trans* conversation. Some people say it doesn't exist, while others say that most natal male trans* persons have Autogynephilia. Autogynephilia “is defined as a male's propensity to be sexually aroused by the thought of himself as a female.” Several scholars have done a lot of research into this phenomenon: Ray Blanchard, J. Michael Bailey, Anne Lawerance (who is a self identified autogynephilic trans* medical researcher), and several others. My conversation today is with my friend Danny, who says he experiences a kind of autogynephilia and has learn to walk in faithfulness to Jesus in the midst of it all. –––––– PROMOS Save 10% on courses with Kairos Classroom using code TITR at kairosclassroom.com! –––––– Sign up with Faithful Counseling today to save 10% off of your first month at the link: faithfulcounseling.com/titr or use code TITR at faithfulcounseling.com –––––– Save 30% at SeminaryNow.com by using code TITR –––––– Support Preston Support Preston by going to patreon.com Venmo: @Preston-Sprinkle-1 Connect with Preston Twitter | @PrestonSprinkle Instagram | @preston.sprinkle Youtube | Preston Sprinkle Check out Dr. Sprinkle's website prestonsprinkle.com Stay Up to Date with the Podcast Twitter | @RawTheology Instagram | @TheologyintheRaw If you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave a review. www.theologyintheraw.com

What you believe is what you'll see… Often, the narrative is that we are being held up by limiting beliefs when it comes to achieving the life we envision. Early experiences in life build those beliefs and thoughts, those beliefs and thoughts affect our feelings; feelings become our actions, and actions form our habits. Our habits cement our thoughts. The cycle becomes a pattern. Then, we fall into the egocentric trap that holds us back from achieving our full potential. In this episode, our guest, Dr. Ray Blanchard describes the process by which he helps people spiral back into the source of their fundamental worldviews that dominate their life, make distinctions, create new beliefs, shift into an ecocentric worldview, and realize the life they envision in a whole new positive perspective. Here's what we've learned from Dr. Ray Blanchard:01:24 How to achieve a breakthrough by shifting one's worldview06:29 Helping people transform their worldview to accomplish what they want in life09:03 How making distinctions help people see deeper through themselves10:29 Describing vs. experiencing14:04 The guiding principles of training that transcends cultures20:46 Transforming from the egocentric to the ecocentric relationship24:10 The overmind that cares about how one's actions affect the world as a whole28:34 How egocentricity sets us up to self-hate, hurt, and self-destruction31:08 The Great Spirit that binds us all together as one35:08 The practice of creating a deep connection with others39:19 How we achieve safety and transformation from within ourselves42:35 What mindful noticing without judgment is 3 Ways People Can Become Stronger and Resilient From WithinIncreasing Endorphins in the Body(42:35 - 45:06) Practice the ability of mindful noticing without judgmentStart to notice your environment, start to notice your own emotions, your own thoughts, your own feelings. Dr. Anne Lawrence is a physician, sex researcher, and academic writer. She is also a postoperative male-to-female transsexual who underwent gender transition in 1996. Since early childhood, she had experienced an intense desire to have a female body, but she had been unable to find any scientific or popular descriptions of transsexualism that spoke to her experience. This changed in the early 1990s when she discovered Dr. Ray Blanchard's writings about the concept of autogynephilia, which he defined as “a male's propensity to be sexually aroused by the thought or image of himself as a female.” Blanchard's revolutionary concept gave Dr. Lawrence an essential insight into the meaning of her desire for sex reassignment, and it helped her find the courage to undergo gender transition. Dr. Lawrence subsequently began to research and write extensively about transsexualism and associated issues, both in academic journals and on her website, “Transsexual Women's Resources.” She is best known for her controversial book, Men Trapped in Men's Bodies: Narratives of Autogynephilic Transsexualism, published in 2013. The book provides a detailed summary and analysis of existing research about autogynephilia and related phenomena. It also contains excerpts from narratives submitted by over 200 male informants, describing their personal experiences of autogynephilic transsexualism and gender dysphoria. Anne tells us about her early experiences with AGP in childhood, how she tried various ways to sometimes navigate, alleviate or avoid this propensity. She ultimately transitioned in her 40s. Anne is now 71 and reflects on the long game. We spend time talking about her finding Dr. Blanchard's work and her own research, her book, and her academic interest in understanding this AGP experience. The end of the conversation took an unexpected turn when she described mindset, the intensity, and the desperate measures that seem so reasonable when you're tortured with severe autogynephilia. For the record, Anne has not been involved in the field for many years and her reflections do not encompass the ROGD phenomenon. Stella and I feel it's important to listen to people's experiences so we can understand all the manifestations of GD. However, we believe in the power of therapeutic intervention and we don't think a nihilistic approach is helpful to deeply distressed individuals. She also talks about studies that describe children having autogynephilia. Anne shares her personal history with autogynephilia starting when she was just a child. When Anne told her parents she wanted to be a girl, she was sent for psychotherapy and thought it wasn't going to be helpful. What did Anne's therapist do to break empathy and connection? Anne experimented with estrogens at age eighteen. She shares her realizations after her attempt at self-castration. How did she come to the idea of how she used estrogens back then? Where did she get it from? Anne made several attempts to not express her autogynephilic feelings. She shares what those attempts were. How did Ray Blanchard's work shift Anne's thinking or experience of her propensities? Anne graphically describes how she despaired really liking her male body. After transitioning in her forties, does she think it was the right time or should she have done it earlier? Anne shares how she de-emphasized her feelings of autogynephilia to therapists before transitioning. She explains why. Why did Anne shift her studies from mathematics to medicine? Anne explains why transition...
Ray Blanchard was the psychologist in the Adult Gender Identity Clinic at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry 1980–1995. Much of his research in those 15 years concerned transsexualism and milder forms of gender identity disorders. In 1995, he was appointed Head of the newly created Clinical Sexology Services at the CAMH. This unit comprised the Adult Gender Identity Clinic and the Kurt Freund Laboratory, the latter being the oldest laboratory in North America for the psychophysiological assessment of erotic interests in sexual offenders and other men with problematic sexual behavior. Blanchard retired from the CAMH in 2010. Since his retirement, he has continued to be active in research on human sexuality, often in collaboration with former students, colleagues, and their students. Today, Ray tells us how he got into the field, as he was primarily interested in conducting sex research. And then he found himself in a gender identity clinic. He got interested in boiling down the cumbersome and sprawling categorizations of gender dysphoria and deemphasizing women's clothing. He wanted to uncover the wider framework that explains a variety of behaviors for dysphoric males. The term autogynephilia was born. Ray describes common misunderstandings about the term and addresses some myths about AGP, clusters of behavior, and what he calls “erotic mislearnings.” Links: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Ray-Blanchard (Dr. Blanchard's Publications) https://www.amazon.com/Trapped-Mens-Bodies-Autogynephilic-Transsexualism/dp/1461451817 (Men Trapped in Men's Bodies: Narratives of Autogynephilic Transsexualism, by Anne Lawrence) https://www.amazon.com/Man-Would-Queen-Gender-Bending-Transsexualism/dp/0309084180 (The Man Who Would Be Queen: The Science of Gender-Bending and Transsexualism, by J. Michael Bailey) Extended Notes A little bit about Ray and why he decided to work in sexology. What kind of classifications were there at the time for “transsexualism”? From 1980 to 1995, the females who wanted to transition in Ray's clinic, all of them were attracted to other females. Ray talks about his observations with his patients that had autogynephilia and some common themes he saw within this group. Ray suggests listeners watch the difference in manners between Blaire White and Caitlyn Jenner. Ray shares his experiences in this field and how it's changed throughout the years. Did Ray ever receive backlash for his work? Ray doesn't believe there's a connection between sexual abuse and gender dysphoria. Are male-to-female transexuals more likely to be pedophiles? Ray says no. Can autogynephilia be passed down to children? Is this genetic? Sasha wonders if it was easier to get the truth out of the patient back then vs. now; a time where people have an agenda to prove they're trans. Having one erotic paraphilia tends to predispose you to other paraphilia. It's not just an “autogynephilia” thing. Ray shares his thoughts on why pedophiles become pedophiles. What are some of the misconceptions of autogynephilia? Out of Ray's clinical practice, only two women stood out as different from a gynophile. How come so many males transitioned in their late 40s? Ray shares his thoughts on trans widows and how they must be feeling when their partner comes out as trans. This podcast is sponsored by ReIME and Genspect. Dr. Michael Bailey is an American https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychologist (psychologist), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavioural_genetics (behavioral geneticist), and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professor (professor) at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwestern_University (Northwestern University) best known for his work on the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etiology (etiology), or origins, of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_orientation (sexual orientation). He maintains that sexual orientation is heavily influenced by biology and male https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality (homosexuality) is most likely inborn. Dr. Bailey's 2003 book, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Would_Be_Queen (The Man Who Would Be Queen), gave an accessible, intimate, and compassionate account of male sexuality, with a focus on gender-nonconforming boys, gay men, and male-to-female transsexuals. The book was nominated for an award, which was later retracted, from the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambda_Literary_Foundation (Lambda Literary Foundation), an organization that promotes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_literature (gay literature). Aside from legitimate critiques of the book and Dr. Bailey's theories, attacks spilled into the realm of the egregious as a small group of radical transwomen viciously went after Mike, his reputation, and his family. All of this was documented thoroughly in Alice Dreger's book, Galileo's Middle finger, which ultimately exonerated Dr. Bailey of the accusations against him. Today, Mike explains how he got interested in working with sexuality during a time when it was quite taboo in academia. After publishing research on male sexuality, Mike began encountering transexual women who wanted to talk about their experiences. He came to recognize that some MtF transsexuals were nothing like what he'd expected. He went on to study this further, write his book, and soon after, all hell broke loose. While Mike is certainly no contrarian, he unapologetically tells the truth and has committed himself to do his job well as a psychological researcher. Extended Notes A little bit about Michael and how he got into this field of work. Back then, there was stigma that if you were researching about gay or queer topics, you were also gay/queer. Gender non-conforming children tend to be correlated to having same-sex sexual orientation later on in life. However, where do transgender people fall in between all of this? 575 e ss. cod. pen.) e contro l'incolumità personale (art. A chi?

Many presume that ROGD only impacts girls, but there is a significant number of boys who appear to show the hallmark traits of Rapid-Onset Gender Dysphoria. Not quite fitting in with Ray Blanchard's classification of homosexual transsexualism or autogynephilia, these boys tend to be softly spoken Mommy's boys, highly intelligent and hyper-ruminative. Many prefer to remain safe at home in their bedrooms and become fixated on medical transition. In this first of two episodes, Stella and Sasha introduce some of the different ways that gender dysphoria can manifest in boys. Cartoon porn is terrifying because it distorts reality and it can influence a young person's sexuality very deeply. Wallflower children think it might be better to adopt a female persona. They think they'd get noticed more. For males who are interested in female identity, they have more of a “performance” practice to their persona. When an identity crisis occurs after a... In this episode, psychologist and researcher Ray Blanchard discusses the historical changes in gender dysphoria (formerly “gender identity disorder”) diagnoses and the politicisation of a pathology that used to affect so few but which today has grown into a social contagion. Discussing his research in autogynephilia, the paraphilic tendency in some males to be sexually aroused by the thought or image of themselves as female, Blanchard elaborates why many transgender-identified subjects today largely reject the psychological disorder framed by the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) while necessarily needing such a diagnosis in order for the subject to access medical treatment. After Katie tells the story of her 12-hour banishment from Twitter for a biting piece of political commentary, the hosts discus "TFW No GF," a controversial documentary about losers who post too much online, some of whom are so-called incels, or involuntary celibates. When should we have empathy for people who disgust us (like podcasters)? Then they turn their attention to the controversy over J.K. Rowling's newest mystery novel, which, depending on who you ask, is either horrifically transphobic or not transphobic at all. As usual, the only two moral arbiters with enough integrity to cut through the online noise are on the case, telling you exactly what to think. Ray Blanchard is the only teacher I remember from 9th grade. That was almost sixty years ago and yet I still can see him, short and squat with a shock of straight blond hair wearing his usual rumpled gray suit.

Dr. Ray Blanchard (@BlanchardPhD) is a titan among researchers into sexuality, and spent a large portion of his clinical career studying homosexuality, transsexuality, and other paraphilias. He worked at The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto beginning in 1980 and became the Head of Clinical Sexology Services at the Centre until 2010. His typology of transsexualism, and the concept of "autogynephilia" greatly influenced the research of previous guest Michael Bailey. In this discussion we speak about his research and the need for biological data in the understanding of human sexuality.
