Our first premiere of the day comes from LA-based techno producer David Castellani as he returns to his Noetic imprint. We premiere the title track ‘Balloonatic', a track that is tailored towards the LA warehouse rave scene as Castellani showcases growling trip through metallic grooves and snarling 303 lines. The LA-based artist David Castellani has been a driving force in the development of his hometown's techno scene in recent years, pushing the limits of his creativity and ultimately inspiring those around him. A producer and live act running his own imprint Noetic since 2021, he channels a love for modular synthesis into creating his own sequencer module the ‘Precision Disrupter'. Meanwhile, his background in graphic design and passion for rave culture sees him handle the designs for fledgling clothing company After Infinite. David Castellani features on Noetic for his second EP of the year following his ‘Hyperstop' EP which featured the legendary Ken Ishii on remix duties. David now looks to craft a new sound using a fresh batch of gear including the Perkons HD-01 by Erica Synths for percussion and the UDO Super 6 for pads, alongside his trusty Roland TB 303, honing in on the warmth of the analog sound. The title track is a galloping synapse searer, as metallic drum lines and industrial rhythms build energy throughout. Tough drum hits and slinky percussion textures give ‘Balloonatic' a particularly unique groove, while trusted 303 synths and thunderous sci-fi-inspired sounds make this a dynamic look into the LA-based artist's studio experiments. “For this release, I wanted to push the sound into a bigger, more driven space. Most of my music ends to lean into a headier, technical side, and though I wouldn't call these tracks simple, I approached them with a more direct vibe in mind. My focus was on delivering a high-energy ride and pushing the listener to move on the floor.” – David Castellani David Castellani --------------- SC: https://soundcloud.com/davidcastellani IG: https://www.instagram.com/davidcastellanimusic/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/davidcastellanimusic Four Four Magazine --------------------------- FB: www.facebook.com/FOURFOURDANCE/ IG: www.instagram.com/fourfourmagazine/ Web: www.fourfourmag.com/

Readipop founder, Gavin Lombos introduces XOX Project - a new Readipop project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund in conversation with Richard Bentley, Matt Foster and Readipop's Abbie Hill. XOX Project:The sound of modern music can be defined by a few numbers: 303, 808 and 909. The numbers refer to the instruments that created the signature sounds of hip hop, house, techno, garage, acid and dance music culture. Once they were only known by creators but now they are celebrated in culture eg 'Kanye West's 808s and Heartbreaks'. Whilst the sounds and influence are ubiquitous within modern music, the actual instruments are rare, collectible and increasingly inaccessible to young and emerging musicians and the public. XOX project will explore, archive, share and celebrate the instruments that spawned many of the musical subcultures from the last 40+ years of electronic music and DJ/club culture. Readipop is creating a publicly accessible music heritage space where people can access, use and learn about a selection of influential, rare, vintage, heritage drum machines and synths and explore how these instruments contributed to the birth of many underground musical sub-genres that have subsequently become the sound of mainstream dance/pop music. Readipop host, Yusef Sacoor leads us through a discussion at the start of this exciting project...00.00 - intro03.20 - intro to the idea06.30 - rarity from unpopularity09.00 - iconic nature and tactility10.20 - synth memories and inspiration 13.50 - frame of reference14.50 - access to the means of production15.30 - intended usage of the 303 & 60617.30 - real instruments v emulation19.10 - limitations and creativity21.30 - 303s, retro23.00 - the Roland TB-30325.00 - happy accidents and determinism27.00 - favourite synths32.00 - what is a synth or a drum machine?36.25 - sonic signatures of genres40.00 - historical significance and ubiquity41.00 -  value to education45.00 - emotional connection and imperfection47.10 - what are we doing?51.30 - beyond XOX boxes 54.00 - favourite tracks, sounds, bands57.00 - playing out on the 303…

Avenue Red Podcast 029 is an exclusive mix by Jori Hulkkonen, recorded live at a recent event called "My House Is Your House" at a venue called Portti, playing a vinyl-only set at a rare appearance in his hometown of Turku in Finland. Originally hailing from the rather remote Northern town of Kemi in the Lapland region (a place from which The Northern Lights can be seen on 100 days per year), Jori has consistently been a truly inspired innovator throughout a productive music career spanning over two decades, rendering a rich and eclectic discography of releases including a dozen full studio albums, dozens of singles and remix projects counting into the 200's. A mainstay artist on Eric Morand & Laurent Garnier's (sadly now defunct) F Communications label, Jori's musical output has bled into many different genres and styles, mostly ranging from House to Techno and Electro to Ambient. He has done some conceptual artistic work too, having assembled the Acid Symphony Orchestra in 2007 - an experimental, avant-garde, 11-man techno ensemble featuring ten Roland TB-303's - performing a raw score all written, conducted and mixed by Jori. As a DJ, Jori has played all over the world and played at hundreds of clubs and festivals throughout the years since the early 90's. His luscious style of high quality, melodic, groovin' House music was brilliantly captured on his famed Radio One Essential Mix from 2002 (https://soundcloud.com/blanche/jori-hulkkonen-essential-mix-2002-02-03) and this mix for our series has distinct echoes of that brilliant session and that era of House music in general. Hope you're ready to hear some classic and obscure House gems woven in true style by a master of the business... Enjoy the mix everyone! "The fact that it was a party rather than something recorded at home makes it feel like a bit of hit-compilation vibe. But the crowd who were there were so young, I'd guess they'd never heard any of this classic stuff before so my idea was to show them the best of what true Deep House has to offer rather than play curiosities for the connoisseurs. Deep House in 2014 has a very different ring than it did say 15 years ago and I used this session to show them how it used to be. The tracklist is included in full - I have no secrets on this one." And the beat goes on...! Треклист 1. Zyon - Raindrops (Red Rain Mix) 2. Earthbound - Mission Dreams (Dance Mix) 3. Earthbound - Phuturistic Journey (D&A Remix) 4. Bass Driver - Another World 5. In 2008, my lovely wife, Linda, was diagnosed with advanced, Stage 3 breast cancer. A committed over-achiever - don’t get me started - Linda fought the disease with her usual determination and impatience. In one instance, when doctors wheeled her out of surgery, her first anesthesia-impaired words to me were, "can I go home now?" Adorable. "Soon enough," I encouraged, and hospital staff joined me in spirited laughter. This song is for Linda and for anyone battling such a horrible disease. When first diagnosed, you might've thought to yourself, "I don’t have time for this." But you do. Nothing in this world is more important than your recovery. Let go of your obligations. Rely on your caregivers. Reserve your energy for yourself. In the end, you might just come to discover that your commitments weren’t so important after all. For survivors, life often takes on new clarity. For some drama - I thought it justified - this track employs a sampled cello section in place of the traditional Roland TB-303 (or whatever bass you'd expect in a rock/electronic arrangement). Likewise, violas are sprinkled about, lending the track a nice cinematic effect. I hope you like it.
