Cʹest certainement le plus grand thriller des années 90. Un polar dépressif, sombre, entêtant, des crimes atrocement mis en scène, une esthétique particulière, noyée de pluie, un vieux flic à 7 jours de la retraite et un jeune détective aux dents longues. Voilà pour Seven, de David Fincher sorti en 1995, deuxième film de ce jeune réalisateur américain après Alien 3. David Fincher vient du clip et de la publicité. A sa sortie, le film est unanimement considéré comme un grand film avec une esthétique propre, aussi macabre que sinistre, une œuvre qui nʹa rien à voir avec le polar hollywoodien. Lʹhistoire expose le mode opératoire dʹun tueur en série retors, qui base ses crimes sur les 7 péchés capitaux. 7 jours, 7 péchés, 7 meurtres tous plus vicieux les uns que les autres. Dans les rôles principaux on trouve Brad Pitt et Morgan Freeman. On y croise aussi Gwyneth Paltrow, R. Lee Ermey et Kevin Spacey. Kevin Spacey nʹest pas mentionné au générique, on vous expliquera pourquoi. Ce qui frappe dans Seven, cʹest son esthétique on vous lʹa dit qui, littéralement, révolutionne le genre. Il y aura un avant et un après Seven. De même, on peut souligner un générique extraordinaire signé Kyle Cooper sur une musique remixée de Nine Inch Nails. Là aussi, il y aura un avant et un après Seven. Malgré son parti pris violent, le film séduit à la fois la critique et le public. Les crimes à fort relent de morale chrétienne, cette chappe de plomb qui semble assommer toute la ville et les personnages, le fait que lʹespoir nʹest jamais permis font de ce thriller bien ficelé un classique du cinéma. Pourquoi le tube de Rachid Taha raconte l'histoire de France "Viens danser, c'est ta chanson !" : c'est ce qu'entendent Hassen et Mehdi à chaque fois que résonne en soirée l'intro de "Ya Rayah", le tube de Rachid Taha.C'est le point de départ d'une enquête documentaire et décontractée sur cette chanson qui fut deux fois un succès. Créée par le chanteur algérien Dahmane El Harrachi en 1971, “Ya Rayah” raconte la douleur de l'exil en France et le regret du pays natal. Sa reprise par Rachid Taha en 1998 triomphe sur les dancefloors du monde entier et unit la France lors du concert "1, 2, 3 Soleil" à Bercy.Dans les deux cas, ce tube chanté en arabe est aussi une chanson française, car produite et enregistrée en France. Elle appartient désormais à notre patrimoine commun. C'est l'une des mille histoires racontées à deux grands documentaristes, Hassen Ferhani (143, rue du Désert) et Mehdi Ahoudig (Poudreuse dans la Meuse). S'ensuivent Le vol du 140 (2008, Fémis d'été), Afric Hotel (2010, coréalisation) et Tarzan, Don Quichotte et nous (2013). Il forge ainsi sa démarche – un travail sur le réel imprégné de fiction – dont il donne la pleine mesure avec ses deux longs-métrages multi-primés. Dans ma tête un rond-point (2015) est, entre autres, lauréat du Grand Prix FID et du McMillan-Stewart Fellowship (Harvard) et devient le premier film à recevoir deux Tanit d'Or au Festival de Carthage. Parmi une vingtaine de distinctions (Alger, Nantes, Séoul, Toronto, Turin, Valdivia…), 143 rue du Désert (2019) lui vaut le Léopard du meilleur réalisateur émergent au Festival de Locarno.   Mehdi AhoudigMehdi Ahoudig est un réalisateur sonore et audiovisuel multi-primé, né à Pantin en 1967. Il réalise des bandes-son pour le spectacle vivant de 1995 à 2015. Depuis 2004, il réalise des podcasts documentaires pour ARTE Radio dont « Wilfried », « Poudreuse dans la Meuse » (Prix Europa 2015, Prix grandes ondes 2016), « Qui a connu Lolita ? » (Prix Europa 2010), ainsi que pour France Culture. Il réalise aussi des documentaires pour le web, dont « A l'abri de rien » (Prix Europa 2011). Il a réalisé plusieurs films documentaires dont  « Une caravane en hiver » produit par Squawk (prix de la diffusion Raï au Primed en 2020). Le film « La parade » co-réalisé avec Samuel Bollendorff, reçoit une étoile de la SCAM en 2018. Rafik Farouk began his illustrious career in hospitality in Egypt, right out of culinary school.  Some 30 years later, he's done it all.  From tending bar to International Operations and Franchise Development.  Rafik's depth of experience has seen it all too, from both the franchisee and franchisor side of the equation.  Today, he directs International Global Business Development for P.F. Changs and he is here to tell us all about it.  

Taymour Soomro's debut novel “Other Names for Love” is as open as a world without villains, but not so open that forgiveness can simply fall out by itself. Before he is sent away to London at the age of sixteen, Fahad spends a pivotal summer in Abad, his family's near-feudal estate in rural Pakistan. Despite being more interested in ‘other' ways of life, Fahad's father, Rafik, wants to make ‘a man' of his son, to teach him the responsibilities of power while largely ignoring the responsibilities of fatherhood. Decades later, Fahad has lived in London longer than he ever lived in Pakistan, but the memories of Abad, the boy he fell in love with, and the knot of his family ties continues to course through his mind like one of the farm's canals where buffalo wallow and the water is “bronze with silt”. Cʹest certainement le plus grand thriller des années 90. Un polar dépressif, sombre, entêtant, des crimes atrocement mis en scène, une esthétique particulière, noyée de pluie, un vieux flic à 7 jours de la retraite et un jeune détective aux dents longues. Voilà pour Seven, de David Fincher sorti en 1995, deuxième film de ce jeune réalisateur américain après Alien 3. David Fincher vient du clip et de la publicité. A sa sortie, le film est unanimement considéré comme un grand film avec une esthétique propre, aussi macabre que sinistre, une œuvre qui nʹa rien à voir avec le polar hollywoodien. Lʹhistoire expose le mode opératoire dʹun tueur en série retors, qui base ses crimes sur les 7 péchés capitaux. 7 jours, 7 péchés, 7 meurtres tous plus vicieux les uns que les autres. Dans les rôles principaux on trouve Brad Pitt et Morgan Freeman. On y croise aussi Gwyneth Paltrow, R. Lee Ermey et Kevin Spacey. Kevin Spacey nʹest pas mentionné au générique, on vous expliquera pourquoi. Ce qui frappe dans Seven, cʹest son esthétique on vous lʹa dit qui, littéralement, révolutionne le genre. Il y aura un avant et un après Seven. De même, on peut souligner un générique extraordinaire signé Kyle Cooper sur une musique remixée de Nine Inch Nails. Là aussi, il y aura un avant et un après Seven. Malgré son parti pris violent, le film séduit à la fois la critique et le public. Les crimes à fort relent de morale chrétienne, cette chappe de plomb qui semble assommer toute la ville et les personnages, le fait que lʹespoir nʹest jamais permis font de ce thriller bien ficelé un classique du cinéma.
