This week, we received our annual audit visit from corporate! That's right, The Chairman not only graced us with his presence, but he demanded we deliver to you this episode: “Grave Mistake: BÖC Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. One could argue that selling 24M albums would negate “Shoulda Been Huge” treatment. However, when most folks can only name 3 songs by this band, and one of them is due to an SNL skit, we think they fit the bill. This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category; however, there is a strong case to be made that they've been largely forgotten as innovators and architects of what we know as heavy metal. We think they should be remembered as titans of hard rock and metal! Hope ya dig!Songs this week include:Blue Öyster Cult - “Transmaniacon MC” from Blue Öyster Cult(1972)Blue Öyster Cult - “The Red & The Black” from Tyranny And Mutation (1973)Blue Öyster Cult - “Flaming Telepaths” from Secret Treaties (1974)Blue Öyster Cult - “Tenderloin” from Agents Of Fortune (1976)Blue Öyster Cult - “R.U. If you grew up in the 70s & 80s like we did, you knew Blue Oyster Cult for their radio hits Don't Fear (The Reaper), Burnin for You and Godzilla.  Or you might know them from Fast Times at Ridgemont High - "No I don't have any Blue Oyster Cult, I ate 34 pairs last time around - where were you?"  Of course children of the 90s will never forget the famous Cowbell Sketch with Christopher Walken. But Blue Oyster Cult are still touring after 50 years and we want to explore their legacy with the man who has literally written the book on BOC (several books, actually), Martin Popoff.  We ask Martin to recall how he found the band as a young man, saw them play live, got Eric Bloom's autograph on a $1 bill and interviews he conducted with band members over the years.  In addition to their string of successful gold & platinum releases over the years, we explore how success, MTV and outside influences led to their demise.  Plus The Wolf laments on the various missed opportunities he's had to see them live over the years.History in Five Songs with Martin Popoff Podcastwww.martinpopoff.comwww.martinpopoff.caUgly American Werewolf in London WebsiteTwitterInstagramYouTubeLInkTreewww.pantheonpodcasts.com

Albert Bouchard is best known as a founding member of Blue Öyster Cult. The original line-up sold millions of albums for Columbia Records, with such classic songs as “(Don't Fear) The Reaper” and the #1 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart “Burning For You”. Contributing to songwriting, drums, and lead vocals on some of their greatest songs, such as “Cites on Flame with Rock and Roll”. With the success of “Re Imaginos” last year, Albert Bouchard is now back with “Imaginos 2 – Bombs Over Germany (minus zero and counting)”, continuing the Trilogy of Imaginos, a concept album about an alien conspiracy that is brought to fruition during the late 19th and early 20th century through the actions of Imaginos, an agent of evil. The album weaves scripts and poems by the late Sandy Pearlman. It features guests Ross The Boss (Dictators), Joe Cerisano (Silver Condor, TSO), and reunites original Blue Öyster Cult members Eric Bloom, Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser and Joe Bouchard, as well current BOC member Richie Castellano, who all contribute to this latest installment. The album also features reworks of classics like “Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll”, “The Red and the Black”, and “Dominance and Submission”. The first single from the album is “OD'd On Life Itself” and Albert had this to say about it, “This version of OD'd On Life Itself is a very different take on the song that was recorded for BOC's second album, Tyranny and Mutation. The lyrics return to the original lyrics written by Sandy Pearlman, much less sarcastic and much more spooky. The track reflects that change with a simpler and more spacious arrangement with just acoustic guitar, mysterioso guitar, violin, drums and bass. The stand out lyrics are “Don't you fear this trade in lives” and “This wedding by heaven was made up in hell” which portend to the darker nature of this second act in the Imaginos saga.”

RockerMike and Rob interview the incredible Leather Leone!!!!! Real Name: Catherine Leone Profile: Leather Leone is an American metal vocalist best known for fronting the groups Rude Girl[1] and Chastain in the 1980s.[2] She released one solo album, Shock Waves, in 1989, before taking a twenty-year break from the music scene.[3] In 2011 she began performing again in The Sledge/Leather Project, which released a debut heavy metal album, Imagine Me Alive, in 2012.[4] Rude Girl Leather Leone started singing in the early 1980s. She joined with drummer Sandy Sledge to start the all-female metal band Rude Girl in San Francisco, California. Leone handled vocals.[1] The group began headlining metal shows in the San Francisco area, and were on stages with groups like Suicidal Tendencies and Megadeth. The band was asked to sign a seven-year record deal with Columbia Records, with producer Sandy Pearlman of Black Sabbath, but the band split before they recorded their first album.[5] Rude Girl would morph into Malibu Barbi. Leather Leone guest sang on a released highly collectible "Rude Girls" 2-song 12" EP in 1987. Chastain Leone soon became lead vocalist of the band Chastain. The group was put together in 1984 by Mike Varney, president of Shrapnel Records for a David T. Chastain solo album. Varney had noticed the shred guitar ability of Chastain, member of the Cincinnati-based band CJSS and, at the same time, he wanted to create an output for the talent of young singer Leather Leone, formerly with the San Francisco band Rude Girl.[6] She recorded five albums with him over six years, and the group at different points contained members from Alice Cooper, Cannibal Corpse, and King Diamond.[5] After a long hiatus Leather Leone has begun recording with Chastain again. They released "Surrender To No One" in 2013. An uncut version of "Surrender To No One" was released in 2014. Chastain, with Leather Leone, has not toured since 1990. However, Leather Leone has once again begun to play shows as the voice of Chastain. Solo album She released her solo album, "Shock Waves", in 1989 on Roadrunner Records. The album was first released in 1989 through David T. Chastain's own label Leviathan Records.[3] After a final tour in 1991, she disappeared from the music scene.[1] More Sites: Facebook, YouTube, Wikipedia, sailawaytomorrow.blogspot.com In Groups: Chastain, Leather, Sledge Leather Variations: Viewing All | Leather Leone L. Comment lancer une insurrection des consciences, quel sens donner à nos vies et comment agir ?

I didn't join Bill Graham until 1968 in New York. Prior getting into the scene my exposure to music was "Cousin Brucie" and AM radio. The first contemporary rock show I worked at the time was at The Anderson Yiddish Theatre. One of the acts on the bill was Moby Grape. I turned to someone and said, "what the fuck is a Moby Grape?" I was friends with a guy in the West Village named Tony Lecht. His cousin, Neal Anderson, was a partner with Sandy Pearlman who ran 415 records. They were students at Stony Brook. Stony Brook University was the first place that started bringing acts (California/England) in and doing shows. There had been some shows in "The Village" but it had all been fly by night stuff. I was working at Tony's bar from midnight till four in the morning. Neal came and approached Tony about bank rolling this little theater they had on 2nd Ave and 4th Street (The Anderson Yiddish Theatre). It was Theatre and music but all in Yiddish. All Jewish Theatre....from what I hear Michael Tilson Thomas' Family was involved with the Theatre. They needed like 15 grand and Tony went for it, he brought me over there. I was an usher but the place was totally chaotic so I started organizing it. I get a call one day from Tony. He thought of me as his muscle, I never thought of my myself that way. He said, "this promoter from California wants to talk with me." They set a meeting at the Tin Angel on Bleecker Street, right above and "The Bitter End." We order some food and we're waiting for this promoter to show up. Tony thought of himself as a semi-wise guy. He grew up in Brooklyn and went to school with two of the nephews of Carmine Lombardozzi who was one of the Mafia Dons in Brooklyn. He thought he was "connected," but he really wasn't. This guy walks in with a big shoulder bag and introduces himself as "Bill Graham." I had never heard of Bill, he seemed like a pleasant enough guy. He opens up his bag and takes out all these yellow legal pads and starts talking about how he's been doing shows out on the West Coast for several years now and he has a great relationship with the acts and managers and their agents. He had been to The Anderson Theatre and was very impressed by the way it was run, the technical aspect of the whole thing. He thought, together, we could really do something in New York. At this point Tony stops slurping his soup and goes totally off the charts. It was like a bad Jimmy Cagney impression....."who the fuck are you coming into my town and tell me you're going to be my partner. Bill is taken aback but doesn't say a word. Finally Tony stops and Bill says, "well, thank you for your time, I'm sorry you're not interested." He shakes my hand and Tony totally ignores him. I said, "you know Tony, there's something here and I think you just made a really big mistake." The Fillmore East opened just about a month after that. Bill must have had the whole thing in the process and he wasn't asking Tony to let him in to his operation. He was inviting Tony to become part of his, which Tony never realized. A month later The Fillmore East opens up and Tony is totally out of business. His whole tech staff jumped, I didn't because I was his friend so I stayed with him. I stayed with him until the opening night of The Fillmore East with Big Brother and Ten Years After and Albert King. Tony told me that day that he had printed up 2,000 counterfeit tickets to Bill's show. He was trying to disrupt the whole thing, which for me, crossed a line. I walked on him. Graham had it under control and it was a great show, it was the opening of a whole new era in New York for Rock & Roll music. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jake-feinberg/support

Yeah, yeah, we know, I got a fever, yadda yadda. At this point, Blue Öyster Cult are probably best known for the 2000 Saturday Night Live sketch “More Cowbell,” where Christopher Walken repeatedly demands that the band play up the faint cowbell in their 1975 hit single “(Don't Fear) The Reaper,” and we all had a good laugh. But the sketch barely scratches the surface of the fascinating, strange depths of BÖC's music. The band started off as basically a vessel for the vision of rock critic Sandy Pearlman, who filled their lyrics with convoluted mythology and gave the band rock music's very first decorative umlaut. And despite their goal of being “the American Black Sabbath,” BÖC didn't really sound like any rock music of the time, to the point where Eric Bloom could call his rhythm guitar “stun guitar” and nobody would think to ask why. In this episode, Phil leads Dan, Mike, and Rich through Secret Treaties, the pinnacle of the band as a cohesive vision, featuring a lyrical cameo by Patti Smith and the story of a U.S. Supreme Court justice who steals people's eyeballs.
