Experts discuss how the latest 3D recording technology has supported their research by revealing near-invisible markings from originals held at Oxford University Institutions The very latest in 3D recording technology has revealed near-invisible markings from originals held at Oxford University institutions. Imagery captured with this technology shows what has never before been possible to record. These recordings have assisted researchers in making exciting discoveries which will be shared at this event. In this presentation, a panel of experts will discuss how recordings have supported their research. Incised text from second century wax tablets, newly discovered designs found on the reverse of copper printing plates and examples of preparatory stylus markings from High Renaissance drawings will all be explored through these incredible new images. Recordings of specimens from the Oxford University Museum of Natural History will demonstrate how this new method for 3D acquisition could have the potential to assist in the classification of species. The technology used to create these recordings will be described and explained by their designer, and the Bodleian's imaging specialist. Members of Bodleian Digital Library Systems and Services will demonstrate online viewers to disseminate these 3D recordings, and newly developed tools which allow users to interact with them. Simon Townsley is an acclaimed international photojournalist and twice recipient of the British Press Photographer of the Year Award. Simon is known for his ability to connect with people and convey their story with dignity, even in extreme contexts.“Trust is an essential value in being able capture a powerful image, but trust isn't just between subject and photographer. It criss-crosses all threads, from NGO, publisher and authorities to photographer and subject. It is a privilege to be able to bear witness, and it is one I seek to honour. By creating compelling images of distressing situations I can break down the barriers that stop people engaging, to open their eyes without fear and broaden their perspective. – Simon TownsleyArriving in London in 1987 from New Zealand, he was appointed Senior Photographer at the Sunday Times where he remained for 14 years. He covered conflicts around the world, including the Balkans, West Africa, the Middle East and Asia. He was assigned to photograph in depth numerous major news events such as Tiananmen Square, the Gulf war, fall of the Berlin Wall, siege of Sarajevo and the election of Nelson Mandela. In 2002 he felt a need to explore photography in a deeper sense, to understand photography in its purest aesthetic, Using the power of the image to convey a message through its beauty alone. He embarked on a personal project- OILMAN.Industrial landscapes from over 20 countries explore mankind's relationship with the natural world in the desperate and dramatic pursuit of oil across the planet. Using his love of the simple aesthetic, the images were shot in large-format and displayed as grand-scale prints, exploring the sense of scale that the oil and gas industry operate on and the issues it creates. For the last four years Simon has been working with the Telegraph Media Group Global Health Security Team. With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Global Health Security project seeks to bring awareness of vitally important issues to wider audience and focuses on key pillars of health and security around the world. To find out more about Guy Bloom and his award winning work in Team Coaching, Leadership Development and Executive Coaching click below. The link to everything CLICK HEREUK: 07827 953814Email: guybloom@livingbrave.com Web: www.livingbrave.com

This is a Bombhole special as we have officially recorded our 100th episode and because it's such a big milestone for us, we decided that who better to have as a guest than our co-host Ethan “E-Stone” Fortier. Long before he was Stoney Budz, Ethan was a pro snowboarder, ripping through Summit County in the mid-90s with legends like J2, Tarquin Robbins, Ali Goulet, MFM and many more. It was then that he co-founded one of the most revolutionary snowboard brands of all-time, TECHNINE. Launching with bindings and eventually putting out boards and outerwear, Budz relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah and started shooting photos for the brand. It was in the photography space that Stoney started his second career in snowboarding as he quickly became one of the best lensmen in the business. He was so successful that Snowboarder Magazine picked him up as a Senior Photographer in the early 2000's, a position he remained in until 2020. At SNOWBOARDER, E-Stone became one of the most published photogs in the game and while balancing the ins and outs of the Technine brand, he was widely-regarded as one of the hardest-working people in the industry. In 2020, Stoney teamed up with Grendiesel to start The Bombhole, and through this channel, his third career in the snowboard industry has officially kicked off, so kick back, relax, and watch Stoney do his thing as he tells his entire story start-to-finish. But he ain't finished yet.Special ThanksThe Patreon Members, We would not do this without you!!- https://www.patreon.com/thebombholeIkon Pass- https://www.ikonpass.comOakley- https://www.oakley.com/en-usMountain Dew- https://www.mountaindew.comVolcom- https://www.volcom.com post a good bail on instagram and #volcombombproof @thebombhole https://www.instagram.com/thebombhole/ @volcomsnow https://www.instagram.com/volcomsnow/ A Volcom rider will pick the best one each week and the winner will get a prize pack!!Ten Barrel Pub BeerInstagramEthan “E-Stone” Fortier's Instagram: @E_stone : https://www.instagram.com/e_stone/ Budz Print Shop- www.e-stonephoto.com https://307o96449135872.3dcartstores.com@thebombhole: https://www.instagram.com/thebombhole/@Grendiesel : https://www.instagram.com/grendiesel/@tbirdly : https://www.instagram.com/tbirdley/Hit Subscribe! These last few years of the pandemic have been an interesting time. While I would definitely hope to not do it again any time soon, there are a few things that have come out of the pandemic that have been amazing. One of those are the various virtual photographer hangouts I have been invited to, and the amazing people I have met through them. In one of these Zoom hangouts I met William Snyder, who was on the show with his Stevie Ray Vaughn album cover image, and in the same hangout I was also introduced to legendary Reuters photographer Gary Hershorn. When talking about Gary's career as a photojournalist you can get lost in the story alone, and then once you add his images to the story you are seemingly transported to amazing historical moments in time. Gary is a Canadian photographer and picture editor based in New York City, and his 43 year career began in 1979 at United Press International, in Toronto. By 1985 he was working at Reuters, as Chief Photographer, Canada, before moving to Washington, DC. in 1990. In his time at Reuters, Gary filled the roles of Senior Photographer, Picture Editor-Americas, and Global Sports Pictures Editor. He led major event coverage of the 9/11 attacks on the WTC, Hurricane Katrina, the Haiti Earthquake, along with covering numerous news, sporting championships and entertainment events around the world. Since leaving Reuters in 2014, he has worked as a photo editor for Flipboard, was the photo editor at FOXnews.com for 3 years and presently works in news curation for Facebook. In addition he is a contributing photographer for Getty Images. For those 43 years Gary has been photographing history, he has been taking us there with him in the process. In the summer of 2011, as the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center approached, he began a photography project documenting New York City, the ever-changing skyline of the city as it entered a construction boom and began pairing the skyline of the city with various celestial events that happened in the skies over New York City. This work continues and led to the publication of the book “New York Celestial” in 2019. If you follow Gary on Instagram you will find one of the most inspirational feeds there is. I show Gary's current work to someone almost daily, and could study his photojournalistic work just as frequently. Today, I am excited to share one of his most historic images with you. Join legendary photojournalist, and all around great photographer, Gary Hershorn and me as we discuss what it was like to photograph the 2008 Obama Election Night Rally for Reuters, on this Behind the Shot. As a young man in my early 20's in Puerto Rico (1990's), before the advent of social media and the internet, I was a passionate and fever-laden longboarder. My only access to longboarding content were VHS videos at my local surf shop and the arrival of Longboard Magazine every three months. That magazine was a bible to me.My excitement in setting up and conducting an interview with the man that had such strong involvement with the mag that influenced the course of my life was...... indescribable. I am confident to say that many of you, especially of my generation and older individuals of our community, were fans of LM.Jim Russi was born and raised in Southern California. He learned to surf at a young age (1960's) in the Manhattan Beach area of Los Angeles County. He became interested in photography in middle school and that interest became a passion/profession that took him around the world. He graduated from The Brooks Institute of Photography. In 1978 he took a one week vacation, post graduation, to Oahu, Hawaii. He arrived from that vacation forty years later. A proud resident of Hawaii for forty years, his contributions to surfing photography and his local surf community have brought him countless blessings and strong friendships in the surf world. His surf photography has been published in most if not all of the top surfing magazines in the world. Cover shots, two page spreads, single full page, you name it! His work has been printed and seen!In the early 90's he was approached by Longboard Magazine founder Guy Motil and was offered the job of Senior Photographer. He was instrumental in that capacity and contributed to the growth and fan base of the magazine. He traveled around the world with some of the top longboarding talents of the time, bringing to the longboard community the photos and stories of those adventures. In the late 90's Jim teamed up with Roxy and created a series of highly successful advertising campaigns that may have impacted the popularity of women's surfing especially with longboarding. Some of those ads included the surfing talents of Kassia Meador, Daize Shayne, Kelia Moniz and many others.Jim is a family man, that now lives in Ventura, CA. He is semi retired, raising his two teenage sons, surfing and attending another one of his passions, horses.I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did.nos vemos en el agua,Tupi CabreraTopics:His BeginingsLongboard MagazineTyler Hatzikian Logs Massive TavaruaWorking with Teenage Joel Tudor in Puerto EscondidoLocalismSurf CultureThe Roxy CampaignHow to Surf MalibuListeners QuestionsThe Ten Rapid Fire SegmentShoutouts and more!THIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY-MANHANDLERSCBD Infused Beard and Skin OilMinimal Effort, Maximum Effect!Great for that after shave soothing sensation and treatment.-No more razor burns-Reduce Inflammation -Speed Up Healing of Nicks and Cuts- Alleviate Acnewww.manhandlersgrooming.comInstagram- manhandlersgroomingUSE CODE TUPI10For $10 discount on your order!Support The Longboardarian Podcast and productions via-www.ko-fi.com/longboardarianYour support will help me produce more longboardlecious content!

This is an encore episode, originally published in 2018, before the death of basketball player, Kobe Bryant. Today we welcome two of professional basketball’s best photographers, and that’s not just me talking. Nat Butler is Senior Photographer for NBA Entertainment and has worked the last thirty-three NBA Finals. He is also the official photographer for the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets. Andrew Bernstein is the longest-tenured official NBA photographer, the photographer for the L.A. Lakers and L.A. Clippers, a recent inductee to the NBA Hall of Fame, and the photographer of the new book, The Mamba Mentality, by Kobe Bryant. So, enough of the bona fides, these two photographers are also great friends, and they bring their easy-going banter and the ultimate insider’s perspective to the B&H Photography Podcast. Our conversation covers a wide range of topics, from the gear they use (and what they don’t), the lighting systems they’ve developed, the intimacy of basketball photography compared to other sports, and how fashion and social media has affected their day-to-day work. We also dig into the shooting strategies they employ for each game and how their images are used by NBA Photos. Butler noted that in the past, a cover photo on Sports Illustrated would have been seen by approximately 3 million subscribers and, now, with tethering and instant feeds, a game photo can be seen by up to 30 million subscribers to the NBA Instagram feed within five minutes of the photo having been taken. Whether you are into sports photography, event and production photography, or NBA history, this episode is for you. This week, host Nikki Closser sits down with Mackenzie Fugett, a highly sought after senior portrait photographer from a small Midwest town. Mackenzie started her career as a teacher before becoming an accomplished senior portrait photographer. After 4 years of solely photographing seniors, Mackenzie’s business was skyrocketing and had an average portrait sale of over $2,000 but she wasn’t able to spend the time she wanted to with her family. With Sue Bryce Education, Mackenzie was able to realize there are no right answers in life and it isn’t a straight line to success, that we need to do what makes us happy. With this advice in mind, Mackenzie was able to make the changes she needed to in her business to find a better balance and has since gone back to teaching and loving it now more than ever! If you want to break the stigma that you have to have it all or nothing, then you can’t miss this life-changing episode!

This week's episode is a master's class with photojournalism legend Phil Greer. He is currently the Photojournalist in Residence and Senior Lecturer for Southern Illinois University's School of Journalism. Phil tells great story after great story while preaching the gospel of photojournalism. From his assignments in Central America; to his friendly competition with Sun-Times legend John White; to the Iran/Iraq war; and his emotional meeting with Emmett Till's mother - every story teaches a valuable lesson. During his illustrious career Greer worked for the Champaign/Urbana News Gazette (Ill.), Dayton (Ohio) Daily News, The Courier (Champaign/Urbana, Ill.) and the Chicago Tribune. During his 24 years at the Tribune he served as a staff photographer, Chief Photographer, Director of Photography and Senior Photographer. "He was nominated several times for the Pulitzer Prize in Journalism, and was a member of the Tribune team that won the prize for ‘Gateway to Gridlock’ in 2001." - SIU bio.
Lucas Jackson is an award-winning Senior Photographer at Reuters. For over a decade he’s worked as a staff photographer covering every aspect of the news and feature stories in New York as well as the red carpet, concerts, natural disasters, politics and wars. As a staff photographer he has to be ready to photograph any scene at any time under any circumstance. In this episode we talk about the work ethic he learned growing up on a cattle ranch and being a commercial fisherman in Alaska to pay for a photography education. Lucas describes his career path to becoming a staff photographer at Reuters and what that role actually looks like, from photographing the courthouse steps one day to filming a 4-mile long glacier calving in Greenland the next. This is We Are Photographers with Lucas Jackson and this is his story.
