In February 1933, while the world was entering the age of radio and automobiles, individuals from the town of Soalhaes, Portugal burned a woman accused of witchcraft. The victim was Arminda de Jesus, a 32-year-old mother of two children, known locally for her kindness and for helping her troubled neighbor. That same neighbor would accuse her of witchcraft, leading to an exorcism ritual that spiraled tragically out of control and ended in Arminda's death. Through meticulous research in Portuguese archives, Dr. Inês Tadeu from the University of Madeira has reconstructed this forgotten case using trial records and newspaper accounts. She joins us to discuss how witchcraft beliefs persisted into the twentieth century, and why some communities still struggle to confront these dark aspects of our humanity. Together, we explore how a simple accusation of witchcraft could end in murder in 1930s Europe, and why Arminda's story remained buried for so long. One of the most profound spiritual trips that I have ever embarked on had to have been my trip through Transylvania. At the time, I was going through some spiritual changes, and the dark eerie atmosphere of Romanian spiritualism took hold, from the trek through the Carpathian Mountain sides exploring the very Castles where Vlad the Impaler was either imprisoned or lived, to the most haunted forest in the world there are many events that to this day stand out. Along the way – I met some very powerful witches who live on the outskirts of Bucharest and experienced a small ritual performed at the legendary witch's pond outside of Bucharest.Locals do not dare touch these waters because of the powers it is said to possess. This pond is small, more like an oversized puddle. It is said to be bottomless, in that anything thrown into the lake disappears – no matter how big the object isThe cursed water is said to bring curses upon anyone who dares touch the water or take it.The water level never changes, even through floods and droughts. And most importantly, it is said that Vlad Tepes met his end at this pond and was beheaded. His evil spirit is believed to have been poured out into the pond –One of the things I did during my journey through Romania was witness a gathering of witches at the Witches Pond for one of their ceremonies to appease the spirits. This witch's coven is small but claims to be the most powerful in the world. Witchcraft continues to be used around the world for the collective greater good, and not in fact for evil – as is commonly believed. Thus, it's no different than what prayer and good thoughts are supposed to accomplish.About the CovenMihaela Minca and her witch clan family live in the town of Mogoșoaia on the outskirts of Bucharest. Here they practice their magical rites through a long line of generational gypsy witchcraft, dabbling into the murky waters of black magic for the greater good of their clients who seek them out in the hope of curing their emotional, physical, or financial ailments. Joining me on this weeks show is one Stephen Barton of Modern Witchcraft! We talk about how the band came to be from the end of his old band, how weird it is to have Revolver talk about his marriage, the DARE Taurus and one members expected....umm...recovery... from some light hazing. Sound goofy? It's cause it is. But interspersed is also an excellent conversation about all things Modern Witchcraft. PUSH PLAY!

The past few years there's been a focus on individuals, being called to start to recognise and unpack our privilege, and look at behaviours or actions that might be harmful to others. The new age world has come under fire for things like cultural appropriation, toxic positivity and victim blaming. But is it all bad? Does that mean we need to walk away from these new age spiritual practices altogether? Or is there a way we can do them that is in integrity and causes no harm? Today, we are joined by the incredible Don Martin. Don is the host of the Head on Fire podcast, and author of the book The Dabblers Guide to Witchcraft - a book that I'm really loving right now. He's also published two collections of poetry - the first is called The Playground and the most recent is called while i wait to be a god again Don is here to do a big debunking of modern witchcraft and share with us how to create spiritual practices and rituals that work for us, and cause no harm.
