Sigrun's health setback became a turning point, leading her to pivot into entrepreneurship and create a more balanced lifestyle. A key theme in Sigrun's work is accelerating gender equality by empowering women to achieve financial independence through entrepreneurship. She encourages women to pursue their business goals and create their own paths to success. Quotes: “We underestimate what we can do in ten years. We overestimate what we can do in a day or a week or a month.” - Sigrun Gudjonsdottir “If you are on that pivoting point, 3, 4, 500,000, if you've made it that far, you can double it. You can triple your revenue. But you've got to believe that you can do it.” - Sigrun Gudjonsdottir “It's amazing - You can really, truly take your passion and turn it into a profitable business. And I think we just have to get over that hump. When is that flipping point of when you realise that you actually have some money mindset issues? And for me, it was in the last month of the first year when I earned $25,000 in one month. And then I was like, oh, that's a lot of money. Do I deserve this? Was this a fluke? Will it ever happen again? And of course, the following month I made $1,700 because I self-sabotaged. And I see women do this.” - Sigrun Gudjonsdottir “There's a magical thing that starts to happen, isn't there, where you realise I can get to where I was before, but seriously, if I try, where could I get to? And it's like the whole world just suddenly opens up.” - Jessica Fearnley “I like manifesting as a concept. I think it's good to get our mindset in the right place, but for most people, it's not enough to sit and visualise it. We need to be taking that aligned action consistently, and we need to always be pushing forward and being like, seriously, what's the next big thing that's really going to move the needle?” - Jessica Fearnley Useful Links Sigrun: Free Quiz - Is Your Online Business Ready to Scale? If you own an online business and you don't think seven figures is realistic -- you are going to love this episode. Our guest, Sigrun, is Europe's number-one online business mentor. What I love about Sigrun is her honesty, her accessibility, and how much she's willing to share all the mistakes and all the internal mindset pieces. You know when you think, "I am too dumb to do this. I can't do this." She had them, too. Sigrun Gudjonsdottir is an award-winning business coach, bestselling author, international speaker, and host of the Sigrun Show podcast (I've been a guest!). Sigrun had what she thought was her dream job as CEO of an IT company, but changes with that board led to Sigrun taking leave and traveling. She found herself in Switzerland starting from scratch to build her reputation and career. Sigrun developed repetitive strain injury and took time off to heal. After seven months, she knew it was time to start her own business. "What the woman was doing, you know, not discrediting her in any way, but joining this course it was a wake-up call. Like, okay, I can do this," says Sigrun. "I realized that my problem, my alchemist journey of not figuring out what I want, was a very common problem." From there, she came up with the idea of a Passion-athon – a free boot camp where you find your true passion and the right business idea in seven days. She gave herself a week to promote it and built the modules based on the exercises she had done to find her passion. Looking back, Sigrun says it was silly to offer something for free with no next steps or offers. She did get amazing testimonials, though. "I was obviously not clear on what I was doing. I was all over the place and even and I need to say this to anyone who is having like doubts if they've got what it takes," says Sigrun. "I had ten years' experience as CEO and I had an MBA from top like we're talking about a top ten business school in the world, and I had no clue what I was doing." Sigrun had ambition to replace her previous income. She worked to double her business every year from $72,000 to $164,000 and then $340,000. She attributes her jump in year three to her husband losing his job. Suddenly, she was the family breadwinner. She set a goal to make a million dollars. By August, she'd only made a third. "I wrote down all my progress and everything I could sell, even next year, because I was running retreats at the time," says Sigrun. "I saw it was theoretically possible." Sigrun dove in. She launched her podcast in August 2018, did her first live event in September, sold out her Masterminds for the following year, and sold out her group coaching program. "I started to make a habit of writing down, okay, this is what I need to make still and can I still do it? And every time I convinced myself," says Sigrun. "It was all about convincing myself that it's still possible." One of the biggest challenges for many solopreneurs and online entrepreneurs is setting the prices for their products and services. It's during the pricing process that your lizard brain can really step things up a notch - telling you that you're not good enough to command the rates you want. It's when we begin to doubt ourselves, our skills, and the value of our experience. And because of this, we tend to err on the side of caution, giving in to fear and uncertainty by setting our prices low and undercharging for our services. Today, I discuss my mantra: Client for Every Price and why it's important for online entrepreneurs to remember that regardless of what you set as your price - there are always clients that are happy to pay it. I explain why female entrepreneurs often struggle with setting fair prices for their products and services and the importance of changing your mindset around your prices. I explain why it's crucial for female entrepreneurs to dive deep into who their ideal client is when determining the prices for their offers. I also share an example of why pricing is irrelevant when you identify and understand your ideal client. “There's a client for every price.” - Sigrun In This Episode of The Sigrun Show: Why many female entrepreneurs struggle to set their prices How your prices help you attract the right clients How Dyson built trust with the consumers interested in their ‘expensive' curling iron product Why you should set your prices based on the value you deliver Why female entrepreneurs need to understand who their ideal client is when setting their prices 12 Days of Masterclasses for FREE! It's going to be very hard for you to find a job. These were the words of my advisor when I went to the unemployment office after having been fired twice in a short period of time. I kept applying for positions I thought were a perfect fit but never got a reply. My hopes were down. I was also still feeling the pain from my chronic illness, and the thought of working a full-time job scared me. When I read that the unemployment office helps people start their own business, I saw it as my chance. I quickly created a business plan for selling Icelandic design online and did a three week start up course where I learned all the basics of setting up a business in Switzerland. But when I ended the course, I started doubting my own idea. Seven years have passed since then, and (spoiler!) I haven't gone on to build an Icelandic design trading empire. I have done something better: I found my passion, entered my zone of genius and become a top female business coach. In this episode of the Sigrun Show, I share how I finally found my calling and started scaling my business to multiple seven figures, and the roadblocks and successes I experienced along the way. This is my story of how I went from unemployed to a selfmade millionaire. With this episode, I want to inspire you to think bigger and take action. Make your dream come true. “The beginning years are the most important ones: that's where a business is born.”- Sigrun What you will get out of this episode: How I got sick in 2010 and lost my job (3:49) My wake up call (13:37) Picking a business idea (18:16) Finding the right direction (27:17) How webinars became my thing (33:28) My money mindset issue (39:06) From my first sale to 6 figures in 12 months (41:48) Taking the next step: scaling my business (42:18) How the idea of SOMBA was born (48:32) My first live event (52:04) Big decisions: Working with a female coach and planning my own conference (55:37) Hiring my team (58:45) The next normal (1:03:37) Do you want more inspiration for building your online business? Find out how I got from zero to six figures in 12 months and avoid making any mistakes by reading the top 10 reasons why most online businesses fail. How to Build an Online Business (and Scale It the Right Way) I was making a good living doing one on one coaching, but I always knew that if I wanted to take my online business to the next level, I had to start scaling it. From my times as a CEO, I remembered that the only way to grow a business was to hire more people. I swore to myself that if I ever started my own business, I wouldn't want its growth to be dependent on the number of employees. I wanted the business itself to be scalable. At the time, I had no idea that my own business would make multiple 7 figures one day. My goal had been to get to 6 figures and in March 2015, I reached that goal, exactly 12 months after my first sale. It was a huge milestone, but I knew that I had to take the next step. Constantly raising my prices or taking on more clients wasn't going to be sustainable. What I had to do is scale, and here is how I did it: Creating a Group Coaching Program I had been thinking about group coaching for a while and got this idea that I wanted to prove that I can sell in July, in the middle of the summer, when most coaches feel it's not a good time to sell. I came up with an idea for a coaching program, created a sales page, did some seeding in my free Facebook group and ended up selling 6 spots, two times. It opened my eyes: I was able to scale! Selling Multiple Group Coaching Programs I started selling multiple group coaching programs and made them longer, first 8 weeks and then 3 months, and called them masterminds. There was no need to create tons of content, because the groups were about helping people with whatever was going on in their business at the time. I focused on coaching in the moment. Make Groups Larger I realised that I could have more than 6 people in my groups and launched a 9 month mastermind group with 10 people. But I wanted to go further. I thought about how much time I really spend per person and decided that I could launch a new group with 18 people and still offer the same value to them. These same people went on to stay with me for years. At this point, my group programs were generating more revenue than my one on one coaching and I decided to only keep on a few selected people as my one on one clients. Introduce Levels I started gearing up for a massive launch of my group coaching programs. My idea was to do multiple groups of 18 people on different levels, depending on where they were at in their businesses. The further along people were, the less people would be in the group so I could assure them enough time with me. Create a Signature Program When I sold out 4 group coaching programs, I told my business coach very proudly that I just had my biggest launch ever. This is what he said to me: And you have nothing else to sell now? His words were a turning point for me, because they made me come up with the idea for SOMBA - Sigrun's Online MBA, a new one year program where I would teach women (and a few men) everything they need to know about online business. I've been running SOMBA for 3 years now, increased the price from $1000 to $3000 and my launches have grown from $50k to $575k. My coach's comment was crucial for me. I thought I was scaling my business with group programs, but to really reach the next level, you have to have an online course or program where you can have as many people as you want in it, without having to spend extra resources. In 2017, I finally created that course which is now my signature program, and it's a fantastic feeling. Are you inspired to grow and scale your own online business? Are you on the fence about starting your online business? Even if you know you need to? Online is here to stay - we all know it. Having an online business is more important than ever in times when everything is uncertain and another lockdown could happen at any moment. I hear many women who want to go online, yet they feel overwhelmed and come up with excuses. Starting and scaling an online business can seem scary. But if you have the right process and are willing to take action, you've already gone half the way. My business has grown over 30% compared to the same period last year, and in this episode of the Sigrun Show, I will break down how easy it is to get started and scale your online business without getting overwhelmed. If you know that online is the way to go but you're stuck, overthinking or are scared of taking the next step, this episode is for you. “People don't really take action on their own.”- Sigrun What you will get out of this episode: My frustration about people who don't take action (2:40) Only giving tiny bits of information (5:35) How I came up with a new challenge to help people get unstuck (7:13) Creating accountability and commitment (9:53) Eliminating doubts and trusting the process (13:21) Why it's important to celebrate success (14:05) Want to dive deeper? If you're just getting started, find out if you can start a business without a business idea or how to stop overthinking and start doing today. Start and Scale Your Online Business: Finding the Right Process We will not go back to the way things were before. Online is here to stay - and having an online business has become more important than ever before. Most business owners understand the importance of being able to go 100% online. What if a second wave hits us? What if there is another lockdown? But what is the easiest way to get started and scale your online business without getting stuck, procrastinating, overcoming perfectionism? Over the years I have come up with a process I apply in my 8 and 10 week challenges that helps my clients get out of their overwhelm and makes them take action. Here, I'm revealing the key components of this process to you: Tiny bits of information When people see all the possibilities, when they start to worry about freebies, landing pages, email lists, websites, their social media presence, launches - they quickly give up because it overwhelms them. Of course these are things you need to do when creating and scaling your online business, but you don't necessarily have to do them today, or tomorrow, or even this week. For my challenge, I came up with 26 tiny steps to follow, and suddenly, everyone could do it, even the ones who were the most scared. The overwhelm was gone. Accountability I encourage my clients to fill out a form on a regular basis throughout the program. That's how I get them to commit to the process. It also creates a sense of responsibility. A lot of people buy courses and never finish them. By filling out forms, they are committing to do the work. And when someone has doubts, people in the community surround them with inspiration and motivation, and the positive group pressure keeps them going. Trust the process When you decide to start and scale your online business, you have to find a process and stick with it. When you start to doubt this process, you won't keep up and get stuck, and eventually give up. That's why everyday, I tell my clients to just trust the process. Celebrate success It's so important to celebrate success. After 10 weeks, I do a celebration call where I highlight all the wins of my clients, and they can share what went well for them and what they want to improve. Celebrating success makes them see their progress and inspires them to go even further. With this process, I've helped hundreds of women get unstuck. They stopped being overwhelmed, using excuses and got their work done. If you want to start your online business, I encourage you to find a way to be a part of such a process. Because even though I'm very self-motivated myself, I wish I had found a process like this to guide me when I was starting out in my business. This is a very special episode of The Sigrun Show. For the first time ever, I switched seats and instead of being the interviewer, I'm the one being interviewed. My dear friend Selena Soo agreed to help me tell my story from a different angle: By asking me questions you always wanted to know the answers to. My biggest struggles, setbacks and low points, but also my most powerful epiphanies, lessons and wins — we're going over a lot I've never shared publicly before. Not just to tell you an entertaining story, but to provide value and inspiration for everyone who finds themselves on the rocky road of entrepreneurship. Here's my path to 8 figures. Are you building your online business using launches to sell your programs? Then sooner or later, this will happen to you: A launch just doesn't go your way. You might have launched successfully before, or maybe you're just starting out. But that launch you carefully prepared and planned? It's just not taking off. I've been there, and in this episode, I share all my tips on what you can do to save your launch, and how you can improve your next launch. Whether you're in the middle of a launch right now, or preparing for the next one, or just had a failed launch — this episode is for you. In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: My first real launch – and what I did to turn it around (1:54) Creating a hot list and how to reach out to people (7:04) Shifting your messaging in the middle of a launch (13:28) Typical reasons for people not to buy and how to tackle them (16:12) Sharing success stories (18:59) Interview and tag people who already bought (23:20) Introduce bonuses (25:53) Offering discovery calls (31:40) The key points to saving your launch, and how to make it better next time (35:40) [Recording with image] [Link to transcript] [Link to Apple podcast / stitcher / Google Play] BLOG 5 Ways to Save Your Launch Are you in the middle of a launch and it's just not going as planned? Don't panic — there are ways you can save your launch. Trust me, I've done it. Having launched for several years, I've learned many valuable lessons, and here, I'm sharing 5 selected strategies on how you can turn around your launch (and improve your next one!). If you want to dive deeper and hear ALL my tips and strategies on saving your launch, listen to the podcast episode here. Talk to people This is something you ideally do before you go into a launch: Ask people what they want. Survey your audience. What is their biggest challenge? Once you know, you understand how to speak to them and which products to create. If you're in a launch and you don't know what's going on in your ideal client's head, figure it out as soon as possible. Reach out and talk to them — via email, Instagram, Messenger, whatever fits you and your audience. Your number one priority should be to understand what's holding them back. Let your bonuses answer objections Get clear on the objections of your ideal client and then introduce bonuses in the middle of your launch that address these objections. Objections are opportunities for you to create bonuses that offer your audience help with what keeps them from joining your program. Let past and current clients share their success stories Ideally, have a database ready with success stories of your clients you can share during the launch. Make sure to include stories of people with different backgrounds. They will resonate with a broader spectrum of people. You can also ask your existing clients to share their experience live in your launch Facebook group. Past or existing clients can be really helpful in your launch — when they share their experience, people who are interested in buying your program see what's possible for them, too. Ask people who just joined to share why they joined If a lot of people haven't made up their mind yet and they don't see any action in your group, they might assume no one is buying. Do live interviews with people who just joined your program and ask them why they joined. If you let people share why they bought and what made them sign up, it helps others make the decision. Celebrate new clients by tagging them on a welcome post. Showing that people are joining your program boosts conversion. Offer discovery calls Discovery calls aren't free breakthrough sessions. They're for people who are still on the fence and need confirmation that this is the right program for them. It's not about pressuring them, it's about assessing if they're a good fit. Introduce these calls towards the end of open cart to give people who are interested a chance to ask their questions and answer their doubts. There are many ways you can save a launch that isn't going your way. For more tips, listen to the episode below. 12 Days of Masterclasses for FREE! Ho ho ho! I have a gift for you! I am so excited to have Sigrun with me on my podcast in today's episode. She has been a great business mentor to me this year. Sigrun is on a mission to accelerate gender equality through female entrepreneurship. She is the leading business mentor for female online entrepreneurs in Europe, TEDx speaker, and host of the Sigrun Show podcast. Originally from Reykjavik, Iceland, she has spent more than half her life outside her home country; in Germany, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Since she was a young girl she's always been drawn to leadership roles, so despite having zero business background nor the education, she made a life-changing phone call and asked to become the CEO of a software company shortly after finishing her master's degree in architecture – and she got the job! Ten years, another three master's degrees, and several CEO roles later, Sigrun found herself in Switzerland with her newfound love but sick and unemployable. Her dream was to be location independent so she could split her time between Iceland and Switzerland, travel the world, and take care of her health. So in 2014, Sigrun started her online business and quickly built a multiple 7 figure coaching business. With a membership, coaching programs and masterminds she helps women from all over the world start, build, and scale their online businesses to 6 and 7 figures. Sigrun chats with me about her journey, how she helps entrepreneurs, as well as how she maintains her own version of life balance. What You'll Learn: - Who Sigrun is, and how she has been a mentor as I've built my online business - Sigrun's journey through 4 master's degrees and multiple CEO roles to business owner - What it takes to create an online business - How Sigrun creates balance in her life, while owning and running a 7-figure online coaching business Sigrun has a wonderful offer for you to watch 12 brand new, value-packed masterclasses for free at the link below! 81% of podcast listeners investigate the host's products or recommendations with intent to purchase. That's more influential than any other medium has ever been! On top of that, podcasting is still an untapped arena. There aren't as many people podcasting as there are on other channels. Which means there is less much competition. Right now, there are 2.5 million live podcasts worldwide. And, only around 800,000 of those are consistently contributed to and are of good quality. This in comparison with the 37 million YouTube channels is HUGE! In this episode of The Sigrun Show podcast queen Anna Parker-Naples and I talk about all things podcasting. Is being told “you're killing it” really a good thing? Should women carry on being celebrated for over-functioning and working themselves into a state of overwhelm? Success coach and business mentor Sarah Walton thinks not. In this episode of The Sigrun Show, Sarah and I talk about how it's up to women to do the internal work and recognize the value they're putting out into the world. And, how this value should not be defined by how much they are doing, or who they are doing it for. Sarah also talks about how women are the shock absorbers in society, when something goes wrong - they soak up the blow. She explains that in order for women to switch up this trajectory they need to start supporting each other by normalizing saying “no” more often. We also discuss how the Myers Briggs test can help you determine if you're more likely to be a people pleaser and put the needs of others before your own. Here is a link to the test. In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: Sarah's background as a corporate executive (2:52) How being the person that people went to for advice encouraged her to start her coaching business (4:00) Combining a woman's talent, experience, and expertise in a way that they can actually sell it (6:40) It's up to women to do the internal work and recognise the value they're putting out into the world (8:47) The physiological reason why women are more inclined to feel overwhelmed (9:19) The epidemic of over-functioning or high-functioning co-dependence among women Is being told “you're killing it” really a good thing? About: Sigrun is on a mission to accelerate gender equality through female entrepreneurship. In 2020, she founded a real estate company around two properties and also started her first fund. Looking for more support? Grab your free coaching call with our team completely FREE! As online entrepreneurs, we often sit in front of our computer all day and don't move a lot. I ended up gaining 10 kilos after starting my online business. It's important for our physical and mental health to stay active, especially when working from home. Trust me, I learned this the hard way. Yet still I had difficulties motivating myself to work out. That's why I hired Jeff McMahon. Jeff works with well-known online entrepreneurs all over the world and has been my virtual trainer for over two years. He's the reason I work out three times a week. Have you ever thought about starting your own podcast? Having a successful podcast can be amazing for your business, but producing it means hundreds of hours of work, unyielding consistency, and having a loyal listenership. Trust me, I know. Christine McAlister, my guest this week on The Sigrun Show, has a different approach. She helps high-achieving coaches create more impact and income and attract their next clients — not by starting their own podcast, but by being amazing podcast guests. She generated over 6 figures as a podcast guest, and has been recognized as the best in the world at podcast guesting by 7-figure founders like John Lee Dumas and Dana Wilde. She has been featured on over 100 podcasts, including twice on Entrepreneurs on Fire. In this episode of The Sigrun Show, we talk about why you should NOT start your own podcast, and Christine shares her best tips on how you can be an unforgettable podcast guest. In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: The tragedy that turned Christine's life upside down and how it affected her (3:37) How it really feels to step into your zone of genius and niche down (10:10) Why you should NOT start your own podcast (12:20) How to be an amazing, unforgettable podcast guest (20:40) How Christine set up her business and teaches her clients (32:12) Christine's free podcast guest check-list (34:27) How to Be an Amazing Podcast Guest Having your own podcast can be amazing for your business, but a lot of work and time goes into producing a successful show. In my recent chat with Christine McAlister, she pointed out that when you focus on being a guest on someone else's podcast, you have the privilege of speaking to an existing, warm audience instead of having to create that audience first yourself. Christine has been featured on over 100 podcasts, and has been recognized as the best in the world at podcast guesting by 7-figure founders like John Lee Dumas and Dana Wildeand. She regards a podcast interview as creating a relationship rather than a transaction, and I couldn't agree more. Christine ended up turning her passion for interviewing and being interviewed into a business, helping high-achieving coaches create more impact and income and attract their next clients by being amazing podcast guests. She shared her best tips with me, and here, I'm sharing them with you: Don't choose a podcast just because you want to get in front of the host's audience. Choose it because you actually want to be friends with the host and get to know him or her. The host should ideally be someone you would want to spend time with, who talks to the kind of people you would like to hang out with, and who has a similar energy and approach. Make sure you like them as a person. Check out the podcast and the host and do some research. Are they accepting guests? Are they still producing shows? Listen to at least one episode and get a feel for the vibe of the podcast and the host. Find things that you have in common. When you decide to pitch a show, don't just copy and paste your pitch, but personalise it. Be human and authentic, and most of all, let the host know how you can serve their audience. If you really put an effort into your pitch, the host will feel it and will be excited to talk to you. You get to have a real, engaging conversation, which will draw in the audience and make you more attractive to them. Keep in mind that the relationship you're creating could also open doors in the future. What is your experience as a podcast guest? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Have you ever looked at the achievements of others and thought: If only I could do that, too? Here's a simple truth: Successful people aren't naturally excellent at what they do — they work to be that way. Excellence is a way of life. This week, I had a very interesting chat with Juliet Ehimuan about excellence. Juliet leads Google's business strategy in West Africa, is an Executive Leadership Coach and member of the Forbes Coaches Council. Forbes named her one of the top 20 power women in Africa, and London Business School “one of 30 people changing the world”. She has received numerous awards for her outstanding contribution to the digital landscape in Africa. In short, Juliet truly knows how to reach for excellence, and in this episode of The Sigrun Show, she's going to tell you how you can become the best version of yourself and reach for excellence, too. In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: Juliet's journey after she graduated from London Business School (2:52) How becoming a director at Google had an impact on gender equality and diversity (4:37) What Juliet is most proud of after 10 years at Google (6:40) How her passion project started (9:14) How Juliet manages her time (11:31) Juliet's book 30 Days of Excellence and her tips on how you can become the best version of yourself (13:02) Why your vision changes as you grow (20:01) Juliet's prediction on the future of online business (20:58) Excellence in the digital space (24:02) How to Reach for Excellence Have you ever wished that you could earn more money, make more friends, have better health, reach a higher level of success? Achieve excellence at whatever you do? Here's a simple truth: Successful people aren't naturally excellent at what they do — they work to be that way. In a very inspiring chat with Juliet Ehimuan, we spoke about how to reach for excellence. Juliet leads Google's business strategy in West Africa, is a member of the Forbes Coaches Council, and has received numerous awards for her outstanding contribution to the digital landscape in Africa. Forbes named her one of the top 20 power women in Africa, and London Business School “one of 30 people changing the world”. In other words, Juliet knows how to reach for excellence. According to her, excellence is a way of being. You decide to make it your north star. She shared her top 5 tips on how you can become the best version of yourself with me: #1 Clarity of purpose Juliet says that the best way to influence the future is to create it. Life isn't a series of random events. It's important to be deliberate and to know where you're going. If you're not clear on what your destination is, you're not going to go very far. Being clear on your purpose energises and fuels you. #2 Clarity of vision There's more to life than your job, and your purpose might go beyond your work. Think of the areas in your life that matter the most. Create a picture of what is most important to you. What are your aspirations, your desires? Juliet says to never let yourself be limited by the HOW, because it stops you from dreaming. Focus on the WHAT. What is the thing that calls and inspires you? #3 Robust plan of execution A vision without a plan is wishful thinking. Think about what is strategic and tangible. Create a concrete plan and structure that moves you from where you are to where you want to be. #4 Mobilisation The key to mobilise yourself lies in your belief-system. Limiting beliefs keep you back, while empowering beliefs lift you up. Be aware that there are facts, and there are the stories around the facts that you tell yourself. That's where your beliefs come from. If a limiting belief holds you back, question the story you created around it, and create a new, empowering belief. #5 Time Everyone's day is 24 hours long. You can't change that. But you can prioritise. Spend your time on things that move you closer to your vision. When you're very clear about your vision, it makes it easier for you to decide what's important and what isn't. Start spending your energy in a way that serves you. Did these tips inspire you to reach for excellence? I'd love to hear your thoughts! You can connect with me on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn. If you're running an online business, putting yourself out there is necessary to get the visibility, credibility and clients that will make your business grow. A big vision and a small vision take exactly the same amount of time, effort and energy — so why not think big? Don Hobbs, my guest this week on The Sigrun Show, really inspired me with these words. Don began a successful sales and leadership career when he was just 18 years old, working with personal development legend Jim Rohn. He built and owned several companies and is a speaker, influencer, and president of Success magazine. His ultimate vision is to inspire people to change their lives and businesses and in this episode, we talk about how you can think bigger, act bigger, and really show up — because the world has never been changed by anyone who's played small. In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: How Don grew up in the personal development world (2:45) What women can do to show up bigger (11:40) How you can overcome your fear of showing up (14:15) What commitment means and why it's so powerful (18:32) Why opportunity comes with responsibility (21:30) Don's most inspirational thoughts from this episode A big vision and a small vision take exactly the same amount of time, effort and energy. But if you think small, no one wants to join or follow you. If you think big, everyone wants to join you and be inspired. The only difference between these two results is how big you think, the vision you have. Quoting Cherie Carter-Scott. Commitment is what turns dreams into reality. Your choice is what you want, and your commitment is what allows you to have it. It doesn't matter what you commit to, what matters is the relationship you develop with yourself by committing to what you want. When you commit, you know you can be counted on to do what you say you will do. For people who have a strong investment in not getting what they want, commitment is extremely uncomfortable and sometimes painful. The painful part is letting go of the attachment to not getting what you want. Commitment means getting out there and making it happen. When you have committed to someone or something, there is no more confusion or doubt. You have direction, focus and purpose. Commitment gives you freedom and great power. Commitment means that you back yourself and that you stand behind your choices. Commitment means giving yourself all the power in your life. It means being committed to you. Quoting Marianne Williamson. Our deepest fear is not that we're inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It's our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fears, our presence automatically liberates others. Playing small doesn't serve anybody. The world has never been changed by somebody who played small. The world has been changed by people who said: It's not ok that it's like this. People deserve more. If you're inspired and have a vision for doing something, make it a big vision. Let's not live as an example of what not to do, but what to do. Knowing that you are enough is the core of it. Are you ready to think big? Showing up, thinking big and putting yourself out there starts with one simple thing: Taking action. I invite you to take action this summer. Why are some people successful in online business and some aren't? Nada Lena, my guest this week on The Sigrun Show, says it's all about confidence. Building an online business isn't rocket science – all the information, tools and strategies are out there. According to Nada, there's another reason why most people aren't running million dollar online businesses: Something stands between them and taking action in a way that's going to make a difference in their business. In this episode, she talks about the difference between micro- and macro-confidence, where her own confidence came from and how you can build yours. “It's OK to let fear get in the car, but don't let that sucker take the wheel.” - Nada Lena In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: Nada's journey from performer to entrepreneur (2:50) Where Nada's confidence came from (7:04) How to build your confidence when you grow your business (9:42) Micro-confidence vs. macro-confidence (18:34) What Nada's book is about (20:59) How to shift your confidence (23:27) How to Build Your Confidence when Growing Your Business Having confidence as an online entrepreneur can be crucial to your success. Confidence can make you more motivated and ambitious, but more importantly, it can help you overcome fear and anxiety so you can take action. This week, I spoke to Nada Lena, founder and CEO of Rise Up For You, about how you can build your confidence so it doesn't stand in the way of you growing your business. Nada proposed three steps that can help you boost your confidence. Self-Awareness Understand your own resistance. Are you taking the actions needed to reach your goal, and if not, why? Many online entrepreneurs spend lots of time coming up with strategies and ideas, but never implement them. Whether you're not using video, not investing in yourself, or aren't following up with your sales – get to the core of why you're not taking action. Nada says that our thoughts and feelings drive our behaviour. Understanding them is the first step in order to change our behaviour from being passive to taking action. Self-Compassion When online entrepreneurs start putting themselves out there, fear of failure is often right around the corner. Many of us struggle with perfectionist mindsets – we are scared of making a mistake. This fear can be paralysing and lead us to simply stop doing things. The reality is: Everyone fails at some point. It's part of being successful and building a business. What you should be doing is recognise and remember that you're a human being, not a robot. Jump in, and if you make a mistake, it doesn't matter. You're human. You'll learn from it. And then you can get up and try again. Self-Management Every person on the planet has negative thoughts at some point. The key is how you decide to manage these thoughts. As Nada puts it: It's ok to let fear into the car, but don't let that sucker take the wheel. Because the second it does, it will drive you into a wall or go off in a direction you don't want. Take control over what you know is right, and the action you should be taking. Nada says that most of the beliefs and thoughts in our mind don't actually belong to us. They belong to other people who have projected them onto us. As human beings, we accept them, and can end up behaving according to these beliefs that aren't even ours. That's why when you want to be successful, it's so important to be aware of what is stopping you, be compassionate with yourself when you make a mistake, and understand how to manage negative thoughts. Produce content. Be consistent. Post every day. Marketing experts have told us over and over again that this is the only way to market our business successfully. Yes, consistency is key. But Ellen Yin, my guest this week on The Sigrun Show, believes that adopting strategies without stopping to think whether they apply to your business and the way you want to grow isn't actually beneficial. Ellen is fascinated by the idea of being intentional with what you choose to do in your business from a marketing standpoint. In this episode, she shares what minimalist marketing is and how you can apply it in your business. We also talk about what to look out for when you create evergreen content, and why everything comes down to really understanding the objections of your ideal client. “Consistent connection is more important than consistent content.” - Ellen Yin If you're more of a reader, scroll down to read about Ellen's minimalist marketing tips you can apply for your own business. In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: How Ellen accidentally stumbled into entrepreneurship (2:19) Why Ellen started focusing on courses and memberships (5:40) How you can apply minimalist marketing (11:40) What to look out for when you create evergreen content (18:15) Really understanding your ideal clients' objections (21:25) Minimalist Marketing and How to Use It in Your Business Marketing experts have been telling us over and over again that consistency is key – that creating consistent content is the only way to get out there and be successful. However, Ellen Yin, entrepreneur and host of the Cubicle to CEO podcast, thinks we are applying consistency to the wrong area. She is fascinated by minimalist marketing, or in other words: Being intentional with what you choose to do in your business from a marketing point of view. Here are her top three tips on applying a minimalist marketing strategy for your business: Picking the right strategy A lot of people try to adapt strategies from blogs, podcasts, and different courses without stopping to think: Does the strategy apply to the business model that I am scaling, and has the person who is teaching the strategy scaled their business the way I want to grow my business? For example, a strategy that is designed to grow your course doesn't necessarily help you when you're working one-on-one. Before you try out a new marketing strategy, make sure it is the right one to grow your business. Driving traffic to your content Don't post on your social media every day just to tick off a box. Ellen likes to imagine Instagram as a road, and followers as cars driving by. Everytime you post, it's like putting up a billboard on the side of the road. If three cars drive by every day, it doesn't matter whether you have 1000 or five billboards. The effect will be the same. Ellen says people get caught up on the content hamster wheel, but forget that creating content is just the first step. It's about driving the right traffic to the content. If you only post two quality posts and focus the rest of your effort on driving your ideal client to your content, you can get 1000 cars to drive down your road, with only two billboards. It will have more impact on your business instead of putting one post after the other out there for the sake of quantity. Evergreen content and connecting with your audience When creating content, Ellen advises to focus on evergreen content that educates your audience, crushes their objections, and has the power to pre-sell them. Consistently connecting with your audience is more important than consistently putting out content. If you connect with people every day, they will see your quality evergreen content, and it's this kind of content that will prompt them to eventually turn into a lead. A clear message can be the difference between attracting and confusing a potential client. That's why it's so important to clarify your message early on. But this is easier said than done. Where do you start when it comes to clarifying your message and making a lasting impression? How do you know if your message resonates with your ideal client? Dolores Hirschmann, my guest this week on The Sigrun Show, is an expert in helping others clarify their message and design communication strategies to take their messages to a larger audience. I met Dolores at Ali Brown's Iconic and I'm delighted for her to share her expertise so you can spring right into action and get clear on the message that will move your business forward! “The best copy is the one that comes from the mouth of your ideal client.” - Dolores Hirschmann If you're more of a reader, scroll down to read about how you can clarify your message. In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: How Dolores found her business idea (3:18) How to clarify your message (11:09) What you want vs. what you need (19:08) Making a lasting first impression (21:26) How you know if your message works (23:25) Examples of clear messages (25:54) Why clarifying your message is a fluid process (28:57) How to Clarify Your Message People don't necessarily buy the best products, but the products they understand. That's why businesses with a clear message thrive. If you feel your message could be clearer or resonate more with your ideal client, here are Dolores' three steps on how to clarify your message: Imagine what it's like to be your ideal client and you haven't found the solution to your problem yet. What conversation would go on in your head? What vocabulary would you use? Understand how your ideal client feels right now, and not when they're successful after they worked with you. What is it they want? Pay attention to how they say what they want, and not how you imagine it. In the content you release, lead with the outcome. Your ideal client will pay attention to any piece of information that starts with the outcome they're after. Until they get to know and trust you, they don't care about your methodology or process, but whether you can give them the outcome they're looking for. Don't overthink your language. There's a balance between the clarity and crispness of a message. Go into FB groups of your ideal clients, ask questions and listen to their answers. The best copy is the one we don't write, but that comes directly from the mouth of our clients. When you clarify your message, keep in mind: Sexy is good, but clarity is better. There's a lot of noise online and people are looking for clear, simple, straight-forward solutions. Keep it focused and to the point. A clear message isn't only a bridge between your offer and your ideal client – it also gives you clarity on where your business is headed. Did these steps help you clarify your message? Nobody is born with limitless self-confidence. It's something you have to work on and build up over years. As entrepreneurs, self-confidence is key to achieving our goals and objectives, yet there are many challenges that can deflate our self-confidence – a negative review, a request for a refund, rejection of any kind. Alda Karen, this week's guest on The Sigrun Show, has achieved more at 28 than many people dream of achieving in their life. At 19, she became VP of sales of Iceland's biggest film production company. By 23, she had started and sold her first company. Now, she is an international speaker, runs two businesses and has published her first book. How come she had the self-confidence to achieve so much at such a young age? In our interview, Alda and I speak about her journey, what pushed her to become an entrepreneur, and how she developed her self-confidence (and you can, too!). Ready to be inspired and learn from a truly amazing young entrepreneur? Then tune right in! “Every wall is a door. You just need to find the right key.” - Alda Karen If you're more of a reader, scroll down to read about Alda's life keys and how they can help you with your self-confidence. In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: How Alda became the VP of sales and marketing of Iceland's biggest production company at 19 years old (3:32) How Alda used autobiographies of women to educate herself (7:18) What pushed Alda to become an entrepreneur (13:21) What happened after Alda sold her first business (15:07) How Alda deals with push-backs (16:12) Alda's inspiration to start a second company (19:55) Alda's life keys (22:18) Alda's Life Keys to Help You Boost Your Self-Confidence Whenever you think you can't do something or hit a wall, it's really just a door that will open if you find the right key – this is the thought on which Alda based her book, The Life Bible (currently available in Icelandic). Alda had many doors she had to open during her journey as a young entrepreneur. She believed she wasn't smart enough, cute enough, and couldn't speak well enough in public. Finding the keys to open her doors and overcome fears and limiting beliefs made her what she is today: An international speaker, head of two companies, and author of a book – all at the age of 28. Opening her doors was all about knowing they were there and developing the self-confidence to walk through them. Here are two of Alda's most popular life keys to open doors that might be holding you back: You are not your thoughts or your emotions When you hit a wall, it's usually your brain telling you all kinds of reasons why to not do something. The brain is programmed to survive. It doesn't want to get out of its comfort zone. If your goal is to live to the fullest, to be happy and grow, but your brain wants to play it safe, you and your brain clash and you hit a wall. To pass through it, Alda thinks of her brain as her room-mate. Whenever she feels scared or unable to do something, she establishes that these thoughts come from her brain, not herself. Then she maps out the best and worst case scenarios. She journals or does visualizations to create a practical approach, and to reason with the fears her brain creates. You are enough For nine years, Alda has been telling herself she's enough. Every single day. Reminding herself constantly that she can show up as herself and do her best, but that she's enough as she is has given her the strong foundation on which she builds her self-confidence. Alda sees life as a gift, and knowing that she's enough makes everything she does during the day become a bonus in her life, because she chooses to do it. If you feel blocked or lack confidence, remember this: You can't open doors you don't know about. If you hit a wall, sit down, identify what holds you back, have a conversation with your brain, and find the key that gets you through the door. Many entrepreneurs want to write a book – I know I do. It's been on my to-do list for some time. Yet it can feel overwhelming. Where do you start, what do you write about, and how do you get people to read your book? Laura Gale, my guest this week on The Sigrun Show, helps entrepreneurs write, publish and market books that transform their businesses and leave a legacy they're proud of. She says that a legacy book is one of the most effective ways to build a long-lasting connection with your audience. We spoke about the purpose of a legacy book, how you can get started, and why marketing a book is just as important as writing it. If you plan on writing your book, don't miss out on Laura's different approach on how you can leave a legacy with your book. “So many amazing books have gone completely unnoticed because the author didn't know that it's not just going to sell itself.” - Laura Gale Are you more of a reader? Scroll down to read about how you can get started on writing your legacy book. In this Episode of The Sigrun Show: How Laura became a (ghost-) writer (2:45) Why you don't have to wait until the end of your life to leave a legacy (3:57) The purpose of a legacy book (5:39) How you attract people to buy your legacy book (8:00) When to write your legacy book (and when not) (12:39) Building Momentum before launching your book (15:21) How to get started on your legacy book (22:33) Writing yourself vs hiring a ghostwriter (24:06) How to Get Started with Your Legacy Book If you're an entrepreneur, publishing a book helps you establish credibility and connect with your audience. People get a sense of who you are and what you're about, and when they decide to get involved with you, you've already established a certain level of trust. What sets Laura's approach apart is that the books she helps her clients write aren't just about their subject matter. She includes their how and why, their worldview and perspectives. Laura says the aim is to show the reader the personality of the author, and why the reader is better off with them instead of someone else. It's how an entrepreneur's book can transform their businesses and leave a legacy. Whether you plan on writing your book yourself or hire a ghostwriter to write it for you, the steps to get started are the same: Understand the intent of your book What is the strategic purpose of your book? How will it fit into your already existing marketing? Get clear on your ideal reader Be clear on who your ideal reader is and create a detailed avatar. Establish what you want your readers to take away from your book and where you want to lead them. Work backwards If you're clear on what the outcome for your readers should be, think about what information and which stories you need to include in your book that lead towards this outcome. Create an outline of the material so that when you start writing, you're not staring at a blank page. Setting up your book is similar to planning a marketing campaign. If you're clear on who you're trying to reach, what you want to leave them with, and have a sense of the content you want to share, you're off to a great start to getting your legacy book written. Messaging is the foundation of your business – it influences your positioning, your client journey and marketing. If you don't attract your ideal clients, it often comes down to the wrong messaging. Michelle Mazur is my guest this week on The Sigrun Show and she is passionate about messaging. She came up with the 3 Word Rebellion, a concept that not only helps entrepreneurs capture their powerful, intriguing message, but also become thought leaders. We spoke about what messaging is, how you can find and define your message, and Michelle's 3 Word Rebellion and how it can work for your business. Are you wondering how you can make your message more captivating and intriguing? Then dive right in! “Anybody can have red or blue hair – but when you have your own three word rebellion, that is your unique mark on the world.” - Michelle Mazur Are you more of a reader? Scroll down to read about the 3 Word Rebellion and how it can make your messaging more powerful! It's where your copy, your marketing and PR efforts, and ultimately your sales come from. Figuring out how you communicate your offer is key to reaching people and get them into your orbit. But what is the key to powerful messaging? Michelle says it starts with your audience. Understand who they are, what their challenges are, and why they're hesitant about going all in on the change you could create for them with your business. Truly emphasize with their needs, fears and objections. Client journey Audience growth comes from people who are still unaware of you. If you're not speaking to them and reaching where they are, think how you can capture their attention, make an offer that's compelling, figur eout what your lead magnet should be to get them into your community. The 3 Word Rebellion With the 3 Word Rebellion, Michelle came up with a concept to position entrepreneurs as thought leaders, create a message that is spreadable because it's not about you, it creates intrigue and captures attention. It's job is to capture people's attention, garner curiosity and make them think. Get people's attention, make them lean forward and wonder what it means. The next step is to make them think about what it means for themselves and their business. Once you have their attention, how do you keep it with the content and conversations you're providing? It's gabbing that first attention that doesn't mean you have to have a crazy haircolour or do funny dances on tick-tock. It's a powerful way to own your space in your industry. It's powerful. The challenge is how do you make what you do your own and then offer that up in your industry? That's how you create a category of one.
