From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Today is Wednesday, October 23rd, and I'm Keith Ippolito. Principal: Student Brought Loaded Handgun to Marietta Sixth Grade Academy A student at Marietta Sixth Grade Academy brought a loaded handgun to school, as reported by Principal Keynun Campbell. The student displayed the gun on a school bus and in a bathroom before classes started, showing it to peers. A student who saw the gun informed their parent, leading to a report to the district. Surveillance footage and interviews revealed the gun was kept in the student's locker all day and not taken into classrooms. The gun was confiscated by the Marietta Police Department, and the student faces the district's highest disciplinary action and legal charges. The student was barred from campus the following day. Principal Campbell acknowledged concerns about security and mentioned ongoing discussions with Superintendent Grant Rivera and the police for potential security enhancements. Campbell urged parents to remind their children to report suspicious activities, echoing the advice, "If you see something, say something." For more news about our community, visit mdjonline.com.
