There's nothing Hollywood loves more than putting people in boxes. Comedy or drama. Actor or director. But with the fall of the old studio system and the rise of the indie, we're seeing more blurred lines than ever before. Everywhere you look today you can find genre blends and multi-hyphenates in every aspect of the industry, and our next guest is no exception. The oh so lovely Yvonne Strahovski garnered critical acclaim for her role as Serena Joy Waterford in Hulu's Emmy and Golden Globe winning original series, THE HANDMAID'S TALE, for which she has netted an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress,a Golden Globe nomination, and two Screen Actors Guild nominations.  The series is releasing its sixth and final season tonight, April 8. Yvonne recently starred/executive produced Peacock's horror series, TEACUP. She also made her directorial debut with VLOG, a short film for which she also wrote and stars in. Her husband, Tim Loden served as a producer and her two sons acted alongside her. The film was shot in their home and took place when she was pregnant with her third child, which made it an almost part-documentary, part-narrative film. Up next, Yvonne will star and produce an adaptation of the bestselling novel, A WOMEN OF INTELLIGENCE. During our chat, we talk about making art from scratch, the importance of being a good judge of character, and the very real fear that comes with turning down a job. xx Enjoy!

She also recently made her highly anticipated debut as ‘Julia Carpenter' (aka Spider Woman) in Sony's Marvel universe alongside Dakota Johnson with the release of MADAME WEB. Sweeney will next be seen starring in the psychological horror film IMMACULATE for Black Bear Pictures, which she developed alongside producer David Bernad, following their highly successful collaboration on WHITE LOTUS. Now streaming on MAX, Sweeney's film REALITY marked her international film debut at the 2023 Berlinale Film Festival with the film's world premiere, where she played former US Airforce Translator and whistleblower Reality Winner. She is currently in production filming an upcoming survival thriller ‘EDEN.' Directed by Ron Howard, Sweeney will star in this film alongside Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, and Jude Law. Sweeney recently started production on the Apple Original Films' thriller ECHO VALLEY where she will also star opposite Julianne Moore and Domhnall Gleeson. As the standout character ‘Cassie' in HBO's EUPHORIA, Sweeney's exceptional work in Season 2 captured the attention of viewers, earning her a 2022 Emmy nomination for her performance in the category of “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.” Prior to the second season of EUPHORIA, Sydney's name was on everyone's lips due to her turn as the seemingly woke millennial ‘Olivia' who dished out side-eye and microaggressions every chance she had in HBO's THE WHITE LOTUS. The inception of Sweeney's production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, came from the desire to reclaim professional autonomy by identifying and giving wind to projects she finds interesting, challenging, and relevant. Partnering with Jonathan Davino in 2019, Fifty-Fifty Films continues to remain focused on building impactful projects that are inclusive and purposeful. Currently in development as starring vehicles are THE PLAYER'S TABLE with Fifth Season, THE REGISTRATION for Sony Pictures, based on Madison Lawson's novel, with Fuller Media and THE CARETAKER for Universal Pictures, alongside Michael Bay and Brad Fuller for Platinum Dunes.

Hollywood Live: The most Blackish Emmys ever

In what is probably the most Blackish Emmys ever with host Anthony Anderson, a reunion of Martin Lawrence's "Martin," historic wins from many Black actors (and by the way, the show was produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment), the 75th Emmys was quite entertaining, quite diverse, and what a celebration. Quinta Brunson became the first Black actress in 40-plus years to take home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy. Of course, that's for her show, "Abbott Elementary." The last Black woman, by the way, to win the award was Isabel Sanford in "The Jeffersons" back in 1981. But it was Niecy Nash Betts who stole the show with her acceptance speech after winning the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie. Niecy took a minute to thank the person who's been there since the very beginning, herself. She came back to the press room and explained: "I'm the only one who knows what it cost me. I'm the only one who knows how many nights I cried because I couldn't be seen for a certain type of role. I'm the one who knows what it's like to go through divorce on camera and still have to pull up and show out and you still got to go home and you have children and a whole life. And so I'm proud of myself. I'm proud that I did something that people said I could not do because I believed in me and sometimes people don't believe in themselves. And I hope my speech was a delicious invitation for people to do just that: Believe in yourself and congratulate yourself. Sometimes you got to encourage, what? Yourself. And that's why it's not called mama-esteem, them-esteem, us-esteem, it's called self-esteem. Cause don't nobody got to believe it, but you." "Succession," one of my all-time favorite shows, won with six awards each. Of course, the Roy clan of "Succession" and the newfound family of "The Bear" were the Emmy's biggest winners. And what a show! Williams Jr., a highly decorated Marine Corps pilot who was killed while on active duty when she was two months old. Her mother, Lee (née McKnight) Williams (1925-2014), remarried, to Dr. Donald I. "Don" Purcell, a U.S. Navy doctor assigned to the Marine Corps. Lee Purcell has a younger sister, Paige Wooldridge. She graduated from Paragould High School in 1965 and briefly attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri as a dance and theatre student until she was expelled. After being expelled[why?] from Stephens College, Purcell[8] arrived in California in 1967 and studied acting. Casting off her southern accent was another goal she successfully worked on. Purcell supported herself by working in commercials[11] and selling clothes at a disco. In 1969, Purcell was personally chosen for her first feature film by Steve McQueen in his company's production of Adam at Six A.M., co-starring Michael Douglas. Asked to explain why he picked Purcell among nearly 500 other available actresses, McQueen said, "It wasn't easy. We kept narrowing down the field over a period of weeks until it came to giving screen tests to six of them. All of them were good, but Lee seemed to jump right out of the screen." Purcell at the 1994 Emmy Awards Her television work included roles as Billie Dove and Olivia de Havilland in two biopic TV movies: The Amazing Howard Hughes (1977) and My Wicked, Wicked Ways: The Legend of Errol Flynn (1985). Collider Ladies Night is all about revisiting lessons learned and discussing how they've influenced the current path a creator is on. In Christina Ricci's case, her decade's worth of experience has led her straight to an Emmy nomination for playing a character who seems to well reflect her greatest ambitions as an artist. Yes, an artist.Ricci is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work playing Misty Quigley in Showtime's Yellowjackets. If you're not caught up on the show, what are you waiting for? Yellowjackets is one of the most enthralling, enigmatic new series to hit screens in recent series, and it also features some of the best ensemble casting of all time.Just in case you need the basics, the title Yellowjackets refers to the name of a 1996 New Jersey high school soccer team gearing up to play in a national tournament. However, on the way there, their plane crashes in the middle of nowhere, forcing the girls to go to the extreme in order to survive. In addition to covering the events of 1996, the show also cuts to 2021 where we find the survivors of the incident trying to live normal lives. That includes Ricci's Misty, a former soccer team equipment manager turned care facility nurse. Misty is all about connection and caring for others, but she's certainly made a habit of going about achieving those things in all the wrong ways.During our Collider Ladies Night conversation, we went back to the beginning of Ricci's career and discussed how her goals as a child actor evolved with the rise of independent filmmaking and how all of her experience paved the way to her bringing one of the most enigmatic, darkly fascinating TV characters to screen -- Yellowjackets' Misty Quigley.
