How often do you find yourself sharing intimate details with seemingly perfect strangers? Someone to Talk To by Mario Luis Small asks who we trust with our most personal information. Three reasons we may talk to strangers over those closest to us: 1. Closest relationships can be most complex 2. Seeking shared experience 3. We need to talk - now. Why trusting strangers feels comfortable when we may need to wait: 1. Shared physical space 2. Get lost in sharing stories 3. Similarities feels like connection. Episode quotes and links: “Sometimes the best conversations between strangers allow the stranger to remain a stranger.” ~Malcolm Gladwell “We can only expect real sympathy from real friends, not from mere acquaintances.” ~Adam Smith “We rely on “strong” ties (our inner circle) for support and weak ties (our acquaintances) for information.” Mark Granovetter “Friendship is the rainbow between two hearts, sharing seven colors, feeling love, sadness, happiness, truth, faith secrets, and respect.” ~unknown @NicoleHagman_Writes on Instagram https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/cutting-edge-leadership/201505/3-reasons-we-tell-strangers-more-we-should https://www.aol.com/news/harvard-sociologist-explains-why-confide-142101118.html

AFTER 2020 HARDSHIPS, I FEEL AS THOUGH IT WILL BEST FOR OUR CULTURE TO START HEALING, STARTING WITH ONE ANOTHER BY CHANGING THE WAY WE SEE, TALK TO, AND DEAL WITH ONE ANOTHER BY UNLEARNING ALL OF THE STEREOTYPES, CLICHE'S PUT ON US FROM TELEVISION, MOVIES, MAIN STREAM, AND SOCIAL MEDIA. Ben Lofrumento is a former standout tennis and basketball player whose senior season ended before it even began due to a knee injury sustained while training. Ben is currently a college student at the University of Maryland and decided to take a gap year due to COVD-19. Don’t get it twisted, this kid isn’t using this gap to chill out and collect Dorito dust in his Mom’s basement. He is using this time to gain professional experience, create YouTube content and inspire viewers with his expertise on mindset. I came across Ben’s road to recovery on my good friend George Muha’s Morris Sussex Sports (MSS) podcast (featured further down in this post). Off the bat I was extremely impressed with the maturity level of Ben’s approach to his recovery from his knee injury and more recently his shoulder surgery. After speaking with Ben on the phone after his interview on MSS, I learned about some creative and healthy outlets Ben immersed himself in while most would be sitting around feeling sorry for themselves. Specifically, Ben took up music writing and recording and ended up recording an album. He is most proud of the song “Talk To ‘Em,” which is featured below. I recommend listening to the SONG prior to listening to the interview, because we spend the majority of interview dissecting lines of the song. We also had an interesting realization that the process for transformation’s to life after sports often start with activities that start off as distractions, but quickly become fun due to gaining progress in the task at hand, and in Ben’s case, this was writing music. For me, it happened to be creating this podcast.
I recorded very short episode of the podcast specifically for people who need to be clear on Who They want to Talk To so as to optimize their attraction factor You Can Download a 5 part Video Course for FREE ($97 value) : MLM Masters Pack. A revealing interview with Mike Robbins having to do with authenticity, vulnerability, mental health, masculinity, baseball and serving others. Mike was drafted in baseball out of high school by the Yankees and again out of Stanford by Kansas City. Then, depression overtook Mike following his forced retirement from baseball at the age of 25 due to a career-ending injury. Mike never got his cup of coffee in the majors and was forced to learn how to deal with the death of a dream at a young age. Mike succeeded at a high level throughout adolescence and young adulthood in an attempt to run away from his own depression. As a man, growing up, Mike heard no other man discuss topics like depression and anxiety and concluded he was “crazy”. So how do you navigate your way through your own pain? You get out of your pain by sharing it with others. Other topics: “Growing up, if I won, then I felt worthy. If I lost, then I was unworthy.” John “Winning would please my mother and save the day, and I could be the man my dad wasn’t.” Mike 38:40 “It’s not always the most talented that are the most successful. And it’s not always the most successful people that are the most fulfilled.” Mike Four Pillars To A Great Team 1. Create psychological safety - an environment s safe enough where you can speak up and share ideas without fear of ridicule or sarcasm 2. Focus on inclusion and belonging - create a healthy environment where everyone feels as if and know they belong. Exclusion seems to be as hurtful as physical pain, according to research. 3. Embrace sweaty palm conversations - encourage and model having uncomfortable conversations. Talk TO each other not ABOUT each other. This requires the ability to manage your own discomfort and anxiety. 4. The combination of caring about and challenging others - love ‘em hard so you can push ‘em hard. About Mike: Mike Robbins is the author of four books, including his latest, Bring Your Whole Self to Work. His fifth book, We’re All in This Together, comes out April 14th and can be found at https://mike-robbins.com/together/ along with some free bonuses! He’s a sought-after speaker and consultant who delivers keynotes and seminars for some of the top organizations in the world. Mike played baseball for the Kansas City Royals organization. Mike lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and his clients include Google, Wells Fargo, Microsoft, Kaiser, Genentech, eBay, Harvard University, Sutter Health, the Oakland A’s, and many others. He and his work have been featured in the New York Times and the Harvard Business Review, as well as on NPR and ABC News. The majority of the issues that I work on with my clients have something to do with the people in their lives. Sometimes the issue concerns someone we interact with now, and at other times it is about the limiting beliefs people have given us in the past. The struggle with issues that have to do with someone else is that we can't change another person and we can't take responsibility for their transformation. And even if someone else wanted us to take on their transformation and we were willing to do so, it can't be done. To that end I have created a tool called Talk About, Talk To, Talk As If. It is a framework for tapping that allows us to look at a relationship from three different vantage points, giving us the ability to tap on any issue from each of these points of view. Two important notes: First, I think this tool is so powerful and useful that it's the very first tool I teach people after I have taught them the basics of tapping. Second, this is also the tool I teach people when they ask about surrogate tapping. It is not surrogate tapping, but understanding this tool will help you to understand my approach to surrogate tapping. Support the podcast! Chocolate can transport you to your happy place, some other-worldly realm, better than maybe any other food. If just for a few minutes. A product with this kind of magnetic pull - this sway over our emotions, was bound to become ubiquitous from the moment the conquistadors secreted the first cacao beans back to the Spanish court hundreds of years ago. It’s no wonder that chocolate is a $100+ billion industry around the world. We Americans eat just under 10 pounds of chocolate each every year, which, by the way, is only half of what the Swiss eat. As we gift our way into the winter holiday season with boxes, and bags, and bars of the stuff, I got to wondering, where are the frontiers of chocolate? For one, craft chocolate is creating a new wave of chocolate products and aficionados, much in the way specialty coffee and craft beer have over the past couple of decades. For this episode of Talk To me About Food, I had a good chat with Nate Saal, CEO of CocoTerra, a company whose mission is to revolutionize the art and craft of chocolate-making by making it more accessible. He explains what's happening in the world of artisan chocolate, and how his appliance will allow you and I to make our own, personalized craft chocolate.Another frontier is the fruit that surrounds the cacao bean. Emanuel Gavert, an innovator at Mondelez, one the world's largest confectionary companies, talks about a "super food" snack they are testing which is made from the cacao fruit. Not only is it good for you, it also makes use of food that's been going to waste. What we think of when we think of chocolate is also being defined by the small chocolatier with a storefront. Blue Stripes is a new restaurant in New York with a menu that celebrates everything cacao, from unusual shakes and juices, to sweet/savory bowls, to breakfast oatmeal.Chocolate in more ways. All ways.

Pete Cline was racing at a semi-professional level in motorsports when an accident forced him to take a different turn. An event in the UK had inspired Pete to enlist some veterans to show some patriotic support with his team, and it put him on a ride which led to VETMotorosports. What is VETMotorsports about? VETMotorsports is an organization that honors and empowers disabled combat veterans through active participation in motorsports. At least, that’s their tagline. Thier events are not centered around veterans. Rather, veterans are participating and racing with civilians, and it’s about empowerment, building new connections, and having a great time. In fact, their four basic guidelines are: Have a great time Ask questions Be on time Be sober I found it amusing that Pete thought it was a good idea to invite disabled veterans to an event that is loud, noisy and unpredictable… especially when the pit crew has to be aware so not to jeopardize the life of the racer. But actually, the environment parallels experiences veterans had in the military - so not only do they excel, but they have fun while working together as a team with civilians. How do you engage with veterans? Never having served in the military, it took Pete some time to understand how to reach out and engage a skeptical community that saw him as a civilian outsider. But he explained it to me -- in the military, you have a very different culture. You don’t have to pay bills or worry about food or healthcare or where you’re going to sleep. You don’t have to figure out getting a job, transportation, your own house, building your job experience, and the social skills that you need in a very different social environment. Teamwork is part of your life. Flexibility and moving around is a part of your life. Responsibility at a young age, leading others is common -- much more so than in the corporate world. So for some, it can be a challenge translating the military culture into one that makes sense in the civilian world. For a veteran with some sort of disability, whether it is physical or mental, where you’re faced with an adversity on top of the cultural challenge, it can be disempowering adjusting to a life outside the military. How can you get involved? VETMotorsports has a variety ways to get involved - find out more about them: Website: vetmotorsports.org Twitter: @VETMotorsports Instagram: @VETMotorsports On another note - I attended a community panel hosted by VETMotorsports and the Columbus Foundation back in November. One thing that struck me from the panel was how significant the cultural challenges are for many veterans face when returning to civilian life. Translating who you are from your military experience to the civilian world isn't always clear-cut. One simple thing you can do is to learn how to speak with veterans more effectively. One of the panelists, Mrs. Ailabouni, sent me an article on How to Talk To a Veteran, which has an insightful perspective on what to ask and what not to ask. It’s worth read: https://warontherocks.com/2017/11/how-to-talk-to-a-veteran/

Shopping at Amazon For the Holidays? PLEASE visit www.logicalloss.com/support The holidays. How many of you just went "ugh!" or "sigh...." We have so much pressure, so much baggage, so many emotions and that's why we often head straight to the fridge for a fix of sugar. After all you HAVE To eat one of Aunt Jill's peanut butter sugar cookies covered in frosting, whip cream and chocolate! No you don't. But we need to step back from the emotions (easier said than done) and take a long hard look at the holidays. Most of the articles I looked at about "Surviving the holidays" gave out great advice like "have another cookie (glamour)" or basically get drunk. We stress out about the holidays because what the holidays are supposed to be if your "normal" is jammed down our faces. There are all sorts of normal things we are supposed to be doing. Jewelry commercials are the worst. Attractive happy people so in love. Ugh. "This is what everyone is doing," you think. I want to see the Jewlery couple a year later when they are arguing over what type of lights to put on the tree, and whose house they are going to first on their Christmas tour of inlaws. "The woman of your dreams is now treating you like a child as you carry the pumpkin pie, as she insists it goes into the trunk and NOT the backseat" the diamond from last year is almost paid off thanks to the 18% interest on the credit card you opened to purchase it. For example, ladies if you are not sitting in the living room sipping wine and giggling, you're not normal. Apparently, women can't do anything without wine. It is the equivalent of beer commercials with men. Men drink beer. Women drink wine (apparently when they are doing everything). Flip Your Thinking Have you ever decorated a tree alone? It is one of the most depressing things you can do. Why? Because on TV everyone decorates with their family. So when I decorate my tree alone last year, I felt horrible. I felt abnormal. I felt like an outsider looking in. The reality of tree decorating is there is usually a discussion on what ornaments go in the front (because your heartfelt ornament is considered ugly by others). Do we put icicles on the tree? Flashing lights, old style lights, LED, so many things to argue over. The flip side of this is you get to decorate YOUR tree with all the ornaments YOU want. Enjoy the power. You get to decorate HASSLE free. How many times do you do something and feel like "Let's just get it over with" when it comes to traditions? Hate gift exchanges with strangers at work? Don't participate. Why go through another pointless activity to get a gift card from someone? Gift cards, the gift that says "I don't know you, and didn't feel like asking the person who sits next to you what you might enjoy. Happy Shopping. I hope you like Kohls." You have to weigh the lesser of two evils. Are you going to be seen as the Grinch, or have to put on a fake smile for 90 minutes. Holiday Parties with Families Let's face it, we are glad we only see some of these people once a year. Apparently, bathing is optional for some people. Who knew? I can't wait for someone to asking me about my dating life. If I'm lucky, they will rub my shoulder and give me the pity look. "Hang in there, you'll find someone" they say. Have an answer ready for, "So are you dating anyone?" This could be, "Im so glad you asked Aunt Mildred, I'm sleeping with five different people" just to see the reaction. You could also state that you've been having too many adventures to squeeze someone in (then tell them what you've been up to). You may avoid the pity face. Get them talking about themselves (if they are parents, ask about their kids) when they are done, go for more punch before they ask about your dating life. Offer to help out with whatever is going on in the kitchen. Speaking of families, my cousin (who has never married) once told me he would rather want what he doesn't have, then to have something he didn't want. That one made me think. What Is Up With All the Kissing? Put scissors in your pocket and cut down all the mistletoe Realize that New Years Eve is alot like prom: highly overrated. I remember one year I didn't even stay up to watch the ball drop. When I woke up, the new year was here anyway. Ever notice that cold and flu season coincides with the holidays? It's all the kissing. Seriously Snoopy Just Made Me Cry Why do we get depressed? Because its the most wonderful time of the year. Andy Williams said so. The bottom line is when you expect something to happen, and it doesn't, you feel lousy. Start a new tradition. There is a lot of pressure to smile, look good, and be happy. Eliminate some of the pressure by saying No. The holidays are about being thankful and giving. Be thankful for who you are and give yourself a break. You don't need to be scrooge, but you don't have to say yes to everything. Then there are those people who remind you about the true meaning of Christmas, and the baby Jesus. When you are lonely, there are times the story of a baby getting perfume don't cheer you up. There may be times when you're just blue. If you feel like crying, do it. It's an orgasm for your soul in some cases. Quit fighting it and let it out. If you find yourself in a "real dark place" there is nothing wrong with going and getting some help. Another way to let your feelings out is to start a journal. The idea here is to let it out. Sometimes writing our feelings allows us to step outside of ourselves, and look at them differently. I use penzu. Here are Some Tips to Make You Feel Better Downsize and donate. Go through the closet and all those things you only wear when everything else is dirty? Give it to a charity. It will make you feel better (and make room in your closet) Go the the gym. Instead of arguing over the holidays with someone , go to the gym and get a jump on those new years resolution. I've never felt bad about going to the gym. I've felt sore, but not filled with regret. Plus in a month it is going to be packed at the gym, you might as well go there now while it's empty. Forgive someone . Some of the stress in our lives is based on grudges and stuff that happened in the past. Take advantage of this time when people think of family and friends and reach out and maybe patch things up with someone. In the event you don't want to get back to a place where this person is in your life, see if there is a way to get some closure on a situation. Start the new year with less regrets. Focus on what you DO have instead of what you don't. So much of the holidays are spent remembering the past. Maybe its time to start a new tradition. So many people put down other people to feel good about themselves, go a different route. Quit talking about working in a soup kitchen, and go do it. I guarantee you will walk out of their feeling thankful for everything you have. To Sum It Up Acknowledge your feelings. If you recently lost someone, it's OK to cry and miss them as you try to adjust to the new normal. Reach out to organizations if you need help. Realize the holidays don't have to be perfect. Trying to make them perfect will only bring pressure. Accept your family or who they are. Don't binge on food, shopping, or alcohol. Don't throw away any good habits you have. If you can plan ahead, it might help eliminate last minute scrambling. Try to plan some "down time" even if its 15 minutes to just sit and be quiet. Most people who care about you will understand if you just say,"I'd love to, but I've got too much going on already." In the end, the holidays are a mental game. With pressure from the media of what we are "supposed" to do, throw in relatives and we may be outnumbered. So with this I say, if you feel a little blue it's OK. Take solace in knowing you're not the only one, and thus is it normal to feel this way. Realize then that you are normal. The holidays are three days (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years) 72 hours. You can make it. If you need to hear a voice, I found this place Samaritans Crisis Response Hotline When You Need Someone to Talk To (212) 673-3000 As always, if you need emergency help, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), or call 911.
