Fintech has transformed the financial sector landscape rapidly and has blured the boundaries of both financial firms and the financial sector. This has created opportunities to build more inclusive and efficient financial services and promote economic development worldwide. Countries must embrace the opportunities that fintech firms provide and the potential for collaboration between fintechs and traditional banks. That said, there is still a need for new policies that encourage safe financial innovation and adoption. My guest on the Banking Transformed podcast is Jeremy Quainoo, Country Operations Director at JUMO. Jeremy discusses the opportunities and challenges facing fintech firms globally and how marketplaces must evolve in the future. This Episode of Banking Transformed is sponsored by FIS Discover Worldpay for Platforms, a payments platform that puts you in control and puts your software customers first. This all-in-one payment facilitation platform offers more than just embedded payments. With Worldpay for Platforms, take advantage of a full set of solutions including professional, managed, and advisory services to enhance your business. Recently, community pro Danielle Maveal joined Community Signal to discuss her experiences reporting into the product organization at Burb. In this episode, we're getting the opposite perspective from product leader Gitesh Gohel. Gitesh and Patrick worked together at CNN, where community reported into product. And while the product and community that they were building were short lived, they both speak highly of their time working together. Gitesh describes creating a team atmosphere where each individual's expertise was respected and given room to ladder into organizational goals, giving each person the opportunity to see the impact of their work. Patrick shares how this fostered trust in processes and created great experiences for the community and the brand. If you're debating a community role that reports into product, this conversation will give you insight into how that can be productive when the team has a strong foundation. Patrick and Gitesh also discuss: Gitesh's first experience managing community pros as a product leader Why community pros should be excited about reporting into product The successes and promise of CNN+'s Interview Club Big Quotes Making room for each individual's expertise within your org (11:35): “One thing which is really important, especially when it comes to collaboration, trusting each other, and being able to lean in on the skill set or experience that everyone brings to the table to accomplish a shared vision, is being able to create space and autonomy for folks to be able to do their jobs. One thing that we did at CNN, specifically working on Interview Club, was create goals which your team had by itself, but also having those goals be integrated into the success of the product itself.” –@giteshg The background of a product professional (12:54): “Most people don't train to be a product manager or to have an expertise in product development. … Most of my training came through experience. It was being part of a team who was building a product and being able to play a small role in it, being able to see what really good successful products look like, being able to see what do really healthy relationships look like across cross-functional teams.” –@giteshg Is product the right org for community? (25:42): “When you make community part of product, [you're saying] that your users are important, that the relationships that you develop with your users are important and positive, that you want to be able to not have a transactional relationship with your users, but actually one where you proactively engage, where you're proactively identifying ways in which you have your users connected.” –@giteshg Why should a community pro be excited about being part of the product org? (26:50): “[When community sits within product], in a way, you're closest to the decision maker, and I think that's important. What you are able to do is influence product strategy and how you think about what you build and who you're building for, and being able to bring the skills and expertise that you have directly into that conversation. [Product is] where you get to do the most fun stuff. It's where you get to say and explore different ideas that you want to try. It's a way in which you get the voice of the user closest to the way in which you think about what you end up doing.” –@giteshg About Gitesh Gohel Gitesh Gohel has 14 years of experience as a product leader solving user problems in the startup, consumer, media, political, and civic tech space for organizations like CNN, Tumblr, Giphy, Facebook, Jumo, and Obama 08. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/toyendescorche/message

Being remote-friendly and being remote-first are two very different ways of working. The latter requires a lot more intentional effort to be successful, and some teams are more experienced at working remotely than others. We got a (virtual) room of representatives from Jumo, Allan Gray, Equal Experts, Matchbox Solutions, Luno and Nomanini together to discuss how each was dealing with going fully remote in response to COVID-19. We spoke about our pains, solutions, and successes with remote work, and shared how teams around the country - and around the world - were making remote work work.Check out the episode on our blog here!

Jumo and the JED Foundation are teaming up to create more mental health resources for teens and young adults. We spoke with JED Foundation's executive director, John MacPhee, and psychiatrist, Dr. Victor Schwartz about what they are doing to expand the conversation, and about the resources available to help young people with mental health issues.
Our hosts, David M. Brear, Sam Maule and Simon Taylor are joined by two great guests: Ahmed Zaidi CTO at Catalyst AI and Kathryn Harris Innovation Lead at Lloyds Banking Group, to talk about all the latest news in fintech. Including: Starling closes their community. Citing several factors for the move, such as lack of use by most customers, the forum being a distraction for the company from core focus and a vocal minority misunderstanding its purpose. Starling’s post also made reference to banking being a highly regulated environment and forum interaction being restricted by that due to ‘tipping off’ rules. Starling says they remain committed to open conversation with customers and the wider fintech community through other channels such as social media, blog and monthly newsletter. We have a couple of great interviews with Sophie Guibaud, Managing Director for Europe at Fidor and Richard Cook, Online Community Manager from Monzo to get an insight into what communities have provided there. Digitised sexism. It turns out that women entrepreneurs who seek to finance their ventures using bank financing are increasingly forced to find solutions elsewhere. And compared to men, women entrepreneurs are pushed into desperate and extreme types of financing. State of concern. New York state’s top banking regulator on Friday sued the federal government to void its decision to award national bank charters to online lenders and payment companies. Maria Vullo, superintendent of New York’s Department of Financial Services, called the decision by the OCC to let financial technology companies, or fintech firms, obtain charters “lawless, ill-conceived, and destabilizing of financial markets.” The fintech hub to watch. Alipay and China UMS to set up EU hub in Luxembourg. At the end of a week-long mission led by Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna to Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai, China’s Ant Financial confirmed the decision of its payment arm – Alipay - to set up its EU hub in Luxembourg. The announcement comes after China UMS, another major Chinese Fintech company, also announced its choice of Luxembourg. During the visit, several cooperation agreements have been signed. Arizona hits London on a mission to woo UK fintechs. Doug Ducey, the Governor of Arizona, hopes Britain’s best Fintechs can be persuaded to look beyond Silicon Valley when expanding into the US for the first time. Arizona is pitching to British fintechs in the UK this week, offering regulation-free access to the US market and promises of help with office space and talent. South African fintech JUMO to expand in Asia with Goldman Sachs backing. South Africa-based financial technology firm JUMO plans to expand in high-growth Asian markets after securing the backing of Goldman Sachs. Since 2014, JUMO, which provides credit and savings products to customers and SMBs through mobile, has mainly focused on Africa where the adoption of mobile money has transformed the banking landscape. We have a great interview with 11:FS' own Lesley-Ann Vaughan to get some deeper insight. Abu Dhabi opens digital sandbox. Abu Dhabi Global Markets (ADGM), the emirate's international financial centre, has further underlined its fintech ambitions with the launch of a digital sandbox. The sandbox is designed to offer banks, fintechs and regulators an open digital marketplace in which to collaborate on the creation, testing and adoption of new products. Mary Meeker, the legendary internet analyst is leaving Kleiner. Meeker’s by far the most senior woman in VC. The departure is rooted in different visions for the types of deals they would like to do. But like so many disputes in recent years at Kleiner Perkins, according to those familiar with the situation, there was also persistent friction between the two sides in ways that had little to do with the firm’s core business — over mundane things such as whether to host a holiday party in San Francisco or closer to Sand Hill Road in Silicon Valley. And finally, the 'first' pub in the UK has gone cashless...and it's near Ipswich. All this and so much more on today's episode of Fintech Insider!

The FW 190D-9 on display surrendered to the Royal Air Force at Flensburg, Germany, up near the Danish border. It served with JG3 during the war. The American technical intelligence troops acquired it from the British and loaded it on board the H.M.S. Reaper for the trip back to the United States. As FE-120, the aircraft participated in six hours of flight testing here at Wright Field, before being stored at Freeman Field and later in Maryland. The D-9 was 20 inches longer than a standard Focke-Wulf, due to the large Jumo 213 bomber engine placed in it for greater performance. It could fly 426 miles per hour, putting on par with the P-51 and it featured a wooden propeller.
