On this episode of the Everyday Legends podcast, I share my personal journey of redefining what it means to be a man. Growing up, I followed many of the traditional ideas of masculinity like being tough, not showing emotion, and seeking validation through achievements and women. However, over time I realized this wasn't truly serving me. I felt lost without a strong sense of my own identity. I pulled on threads of self-awareness and individuality, which led me down a path of confronting fears, embracing discomfort, and finding security in my own skin rather than living for others' approval. Now, through my coaching and mentoring work, I support other men in building self-worth and breaking free from limiting beliefs. On this podcast, I hope to encourage listeners to define masculinity on their own terms and step into the courage and self-trust needed to live authentically. My goal is to champion everyday men as we support each other in personal growth and becoming our best selves. Maybe, you're too nice. You fawn. You'll do anything to keep the peace...or, at least, sidestep potential rage if you can. Peace at any price, you may say. Maybe, you find yourself fawning. (Hear more about that in the episode, too!) Emotional abusers appreciate fawning. It's easier for them and they don't care about you. ESSENTIAL to see these dynamics clearly if they are playing out in any relationship in your life. When you do, you can take steps to change the patterns. There's nothing wrong with being nice, but TOO NICE can set you up for emotional abuse. Listen to the 10 Whys. Emotional abusers--Hijackals--are emotionally lazy, so they prefer people-pleasers who are already trained and groomed to defer to them and their views, wants, and demands. Growing up, children are told that for people to like them or to get what they want, they have to be nice. That's why when someone goes into the sales profession or becomes a real estate agent, they think that in order to close the deals, they would need to be the nicest, most-liked person the client has ever dealt with. Yet oftentimes, nice people tend to be more focused on gaining the approval of the person they're talking to, over helping or providing value. So that if their prospect says they're busy, nice people offer to email instead just so they wouldn't bother them. This is just one of the reasons why most “nice” agents get out-sold. However, it doesn't mean that you have to be rude or obnoxious to become great at selling. There are ways to sell real estate while still being your nice, authentic self. Brian Charlesworth joins Barry Jenkins, CMO of Better Homes and Gardens NAGR and Head Realtor in Residence at Ylopo, as he shares how his book, Too Nice For Sales, addresses this issue, how adapting to the “teamerage” model allowed his team to thrive in these changing times, and his take on what's happening in the industry right now. Top Takeaways: (03:18) How Barry's business evolved from a brokerage to a “teamerage” (04:44) Why teams should not overvalue a lead (07:59) The problem that a lot of team owners get caught up in (11:19) How Barry ended up working for Ylopo (12:42) The systems that Barry had to put in place so he could step out of the business (14:57) Where the future of real estate is headed (15:37) Why most people don't work on automation often enough (18:51) How Barry's book “Too Nice for Sales” came about? (24:05) How nice people tricked themselves into no longer being helpful (27:22) The best advice for someone planning to write a book (28:25) Barry's take on what's happening in the industry now (32:41) How one's ability to adapt is vital in these difficult times (33:51) What success is made of Connect with Barry Jenkins Email: barry@tooniceforsales.com Website: https://www.tooniceforsales.com/ About the guest: Barry Jenkins was 18 when he started his career in real estate which has spanned for almost twenty years. He currently runs a team in Virginia Beach, VA & he's also The CMO of Better Homes and Gardens NAGR. His real estate team at this firm sold just under 900 units last year and is ranked #9 on the Real Trends to 1,000 teams in America. Barry is also an author, speaker, coach, trainer, and a full-time Executive at Ylopo with the title of “Head Realtor in Residence” where he trains their customers, and assists with product development & platform evangelism for them. If you or your partner is nice, nice, nice, almost toooo nice… and then periodically explodes with out-of-the-blue anger, this episode is for you. Or if the person doesn't ever explode, but there's a way their nice-nice-niceness doesn't feel quite authentic, or seems forced… We're going to talk about that, too.The dynamics we're discussing today … I get it. You're not alone! AND today's episode will help, because I'm breakin' it all down:How leadership was the first place I saw and named this dynamic, and what I've learned about its roots since that time more than 15 years agoWhat drives this seesaw between being over-accommodating in one extreme and being harsh, critical, or aggressive in the otherHow trauma reactions relate to the doormat stance and the bulldog position alikeHow - in the next episode - I'll share how to root out these patterns in yourself and ask for your partner to excavate them if you see them in your relationshipJoin the conversation by listening, share your story or response on our voicemail at 206-659-9865 or inside our free Conscious Couples' Circle on Mighty Networks.Full shownotes are at http://lisenbury.com/episode/025.
Prompted by Keri asking about his "Too Nice" sign in the background, Carter opens with a rant about the dangers of avoiding conflict and being overly agreeable with errant philosophers and academics whose ideas are responsible for the destruction of Western Civilization. Next, they laugh about the outrage from duped union members ("low information voters") over Joe Biden's cancelling of the Keystone Pipeline project. After playing a clip from Kmele Foster's appearance on Bill Maher in which he argues against the "anti-racist" practice of turning everything into a discussion about race, Keri highlights the blatantly racist responses from sanctimonious (and often white) SJWs online. [The Kmele clip has been removed from the YouTube version of this episode due to copyright claims.] Keri proposes a non-profit dedicated to encouraging people NOT to vote, and Carter loves the idea. They discuss problems with universal suffrage and Carter reiterates his assertion that people who get paychecks from the government have a conflict of interest and therefore should not vote. Then they turn their attention to Jeff Bezos, whose Washington Post argued incessantly about the fairness, safety, and integrity of mail-in voting when it came to the Presidential election. It turns out that when it comes to the voting process for Amazon workers seeking to unionize, however, Bezos is very concerned about mail-in ballots and has filed a request with the National Labor Relations Board to delay the vote and to "adopt a workable standard that promotes manual elections" as opposed to mail-in ballots. After celebrating the lifting of California's COVID lockdowns thanks to the election of The "Joe-ssiah," Carter reviews the 81 presidential election lawsuits and notes that none of them have ever reached the stage of even being allowed to argue evidence. Finally, they end with some intermittent frivolity by watching a video of the Biden family being locked out of the Whitehouse as a direct result of their ideological purge. Fix CPTSD Podcast | Psychology and Philosophy in Narcissistic Times with Richard Grannon
This is a short and powerful excerpt from UCLA seminar about preventing the scapegoating. (00:01) You're Too Nice (01:49) You Don't Need to Be Super Aggressive Confrontational Person (Target Hardening) (03:24) Lacking Proper Boundaries
Things got really rough last week. It was insanity. Well, actually, the past month has been insane. But last week it got REALLY crazy. We’ve been trying to buy a house and the weeks (and weeks) of negotiations hit a breaking point. And well… we ended up in a situation where we sold our house but STILL didn’t have a contract for our new one. YIKES! And part of it was my fault. I was TOO NICE. Listen in to find out what I did wrong, why forgiveness is important, and how being "nice" is easy to slip back into.
Award winning and Ontario native, Madison Mueller, joins the Sunday Night Army to talk about writing and inspiration. Her music career and future plans and I play her new single "Too Nice."
In Alicia Menendez's book The Likeability Trap, she talks about likeability and how it influences women's success. This got us all fired up and wanting to talk about how this relates to being a people-pleaser! Besides giving you 5 steps for dealing with likeability, we also talk about the trap that it is, how it really affects us at work and in our daily lives, some double-standards that are placed on both women and men, and a fantastic example of someone who is showing us that approaching his work more "like a girl" can make an amazing impact.
Why does it sometimes feel like feminism is a bad word? Not too long ago, Claire was asked "What kind of feminist are you?" In other words, this person was trying to find out whether Claire is the kind of feminist who's loudly and angrily shouting that women are better then men while trying to crush them down. Or whether Claire is the type of feminist who just wants equality for everyone. To us, feminism just means the latter. That men and women should be equal because both are valuable and both should be equally valued. In this episode, we're diving into our personal definition of feminism, how feminism in general got such a bad rap, and what feminism has to do with being too nice. As Dame Rebecca West put it in 1913, “I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat.”
Are you feeling blah? Sad? Anxious? Uninspired? Or just in a funk? You might be overthinking things too much. Or you might just be on the wrong path for your life.We get it; we all fall into this trap sometimes. Lately, Claire and I have both been dealing with this very problem on and off. It's crazy easy to fall into a funk when you overthink your life and your decisions. But, we've also found 6 easy steps to quickly get out of that funk, stop the downward spiral of negative emotions, and feel better when you've been telling yourself stories that don't work for you or your life.
"F-it!"--we don't care if you use the 4-letter word or something more tame like "Forget it!" (By the way, we don't use the "F" word during this podcast.) Whatever words you choose, it's time to add some "F-it" to your life. Claire shares why saying "F-it" helps and tells us the 3 steps she uses. She learned to say "F-it" years ago as a way to help her not get overwhelmed by the stress and anxiety in the ballet world. She still uses this phrase as a rallying cry, a battle cry, so she can keep life in perspective, to let go of some of the pressure, and to be okay with whatever happens. It's not that you should stop caring about whatever is stressing you out. It's about caring LESS so you don't get burnt out. It's about learning to trust in your life and future. It's about not being attached to one particular outcome. It's about lightening up, adding some levity, and giving yourself the freedom to laugh when life gets absurd. Sometimes we take life WAY too seriously. Saying "F-it" helps us take a step back and get some perspective. When you can decrease your stress and anxiety by saying "F" it, you can do even better work. Work doesn't always have to be difficult or stressful. When things feel lighter and more fun, you can do your best knowing that you're on the right track.
What would your life be like if you didn't care what others thought? What if you didn't follow the crowd and instead lived your truth? How would you live differently? What are you doing or not doing because of what other people think? Do you really need to jump on the latest bandwagon? Whose life are you living anyways? These are the questions we're tackling in today's podcast. Other people's choices have no bearing on your choice. Their choice doesn't mean that your choice is bad or wrong. It only means that their choice is best for them. Stop worrying about what other people think. There really aren't any wrong or right answers to how you should live. The only right answer is the one that fits YOUR values, YOUR priorities, and YOUR standards. Since we all have different lives, experiences, and circumstances, we're all going to have different answers. And that's just as it should be!Give yourself a break. Stop playing small and start living life to your fullest! You are truly a gift!
Sorry for all you perfectionists out there, we have bad news -- perfection is NOT a virtue. In this episode, Claire and Cheryl talk about how perfectionism gets in the way of your happiness and 5 ways to get over the perfectionism trap. You're going to hear some crazy stories of things we've done in the name of perfection! You might think being perfect is a positive goal. Nope! Aiming for perfection often causes you anxiety, worry, and stress. It can cause you to verbally beat yourself up. Perfection doesn't belong on a crazy high pedestal. It's time to put perfectionism in its place!

Boris Johnson is the clear favourite to replace Theresa May. He easily made it to the final along with Jeremy Hunt after getting backing from more than 100 Tory MPs. But things have gone a bit wrong for him after his neighbours recorded a row with his girlfriend Carrie Symonds and gave it to the press. He’s also faced criticism for hiding from TV debates – Jeremy Hunt has told him to “man up”. So with a less than a month to go before we have a new Prime Minister, just how vulnerable is Boris Johnson? We speak to BBC Political Correspondent Ben Wright and Joanne Nadler, author of “Too Nice to be a Tory”. We also hear from Nels Abbey, author of “Think Like A White Man”, who tells us how things would be different for Boris Johnson if he were black. Producers: Philly Beaumont, Alicia Burrell Mixed by Nicolas Raufast Editor: John Shields.

Susan writes, “Hi Susan. I want say a big thank you to you first. I had a big awakening experience after I watched your videos. I allowed people who I loved to walk over my feelings, devalue me, and I'd always forgive them. I suffered and kept quiet. I decided to walk away from the guy that I'd been dating for a year who kept hurting my feelings. A recording of a debate at the Battle of Ideas 2018 festival at the Barbican on Sunday 14 October, produced in partnership with Diageo (full details here). Almost every aspect of life in the UK is heavily regulated, from housing and transport to food and energy. Public health authorities have extended the reach of government intervention into our personal consumption of cigarettes, alcohol, salt, sugar and fat. While many critics of the EU look forward to Brexit as a means of cutting regulation, most of the ‘red tape’ and ‘nanny state’ rules we face are homegrown. Why has Britain become such an intensively regulated society? Is state intrusion the price we must pay to keep big business in check – or does it simply mean higher costs and more limits on choice? Hip-House got started in Chicago during the uprising of house music in the late 80’s/early 90’s. It caught on heavy and soon became something that most artists had to cater to either through record label pressure or on their own merit, but at one point most relevant MC’s from that time had at least 1 Hip-House track on their album or a remix on a single. After a while it got tired and fizzled out due to super commercialism of the style and the emergence of more gritty/slower tempo hip hop being more sought after in the mid 90’s but for whatever it’s worth Hip-House had a good run and remains a guilty pleasure of the Hip-Hop timeline when it was more about having a good time than having the best bars, with that said peep the lineup though, you might be surprised how many legendary MC’s catered to the Hip-House movement:Featuring tracks by: The D.O.C., Black Sheep, Tribe Called Quest, Stetsasonic, MC Lyte, EPMD, Eric B & Rakim, Rob Base, Twin Hype, Style, Doug Lazy, Two Without Hats, Too Nice, Wrecks-N-Effect, Special Ed, Big Daddy Kane, Precious, Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Chilly T & Lord KCB.
Petter Fagerlund writes, “Should you try to resolve an ambivalent situation, that might be characterized as hot and cold, by being open or are you jeopardizing the relationship by doing so?” For more information please visit my website at http://www.susanwinter.net/
