Sometimes discouragement arrives with a long list of justifications. And sometimes it settles in for no obvious reason at all, quietly smothering the smiles that should be there, draining the joy that ought to fuel the day. Either way, the result is the same: days wasted without the delight that God intends for His children, even while His blessings sit quietly uncounted all around us. The solution is simple and genuinely hard all at once: when we want to grow our joy, we need to grow our gratitude. Psalm 9:1 models exactly this — giving thanks to the Lord with a whole heart, recounting His wonderful deeds one by one. The enemy knows what happens when we lock our gaze on God's goodness. We give God more glory. We praise Him more freely. And our joy grows deeper and more resilient than any circumstance can touch. That is precisely why Satan works so persistently to keep us focused on disappointment, distraction, and darkness. Gratitude is an act of spiritual resistance. It is fighting back by fighting forward — turning our eyes to God's good promises, proclaiming His praise, and naming out loud every small, large, and beautiful blessing He has placed before us. Do it in the hard seasons especially. Write them down, whisper them in prayer, speak them alongside other believers in worship. Make it a habit, and watch what begins to grow. When joy feels distant, gratitude is almost always the fastest path back to it. Counting God's blessings is not a surface-level spiritual exercise — it is a soul-deep practice that genuinely shifts our perspective and our experience. The enemy works persistently to keep us camped on hardship. Satan knows that a heart fixed on God's goodness is a heart that praises freely and grows in joy. Choosing gratitude, especially in difficult seasons, is an act of spiritual resistance. Wholehearted thankfulness is what produces the fullness we long for. Psalm 9:1 does not call for polite acknowledgment — it calls for the whole heart. Halfhearted gratitude produces halfhearted joy. Give all of it to God and watch what happens. A Prayer for You Today Lord Jesus, I thank You with my whole heart for all the wonderful things You have given and done. On hard days and in long seasons of struggle, I find my mind camped on hardships and I lose sight of Your abundant blessings. But I know that is when I am depriving myself of the joy You long for me to have. When I fix my eyes and whole heart on You and Your goodness and thank You over and over for Your constant flow of blessings, joy grows and abounds in my life. Help me stay in a state of gratitude, because I certainly have so much to praise You for — every moment, every day, and always. Thank You, thank You, thank You, Lord. Amen. Last night, the Houthis claimed to have partially closed the Bab el Mandeb Strait, threatening another major global maritime chokepoint. This announcement has been implemented as a blockade of Saudi ports, with the Houthi's claiming that all ships bound for Saudi Arabia will be attacked. The status of other ships just passing through the area remains unclear.As a reminder, the US already fought the Houthis, specifically over their closure of the Bab el Mandeb Strait last year. That conflict resulted in a de facto Houthi victory after the US ceased the bombing campaign without securing the defeat of the Houthis, and many shipping companies have, to this day, continued to avoid the Red Sea route altogether. So far, the Houthi's have not struck any vessels however reports suggest they may have turned a couple of tankers around without missiles being fired.The Houthis are perhaps an even more substantial threat to the region than most realize, simply due to the weapons available to them. Unlike Iran, which has the capability of hitting individual ships in the comparatively cramped Strait of Hormuz, the Houthis have historically had to rely on the sledgehammer approach. It is true that the Houthis will strike vessels in their backyard with relative ease, but their main target is the Saudi port of Yanbu, far to the north on the east coast of the Red Sea. From that distance, the Houthis can't hit individual ships...they will be hitting the oil terminal itself. That's comparatively worse than striking just one ship; the Houthi targeting efforts are a much more blunt instrument than observed with Iran, and as a result they are more likely to cause damage that lasts a long time. This was already demonstrated by their previous targeting efforts during the short-lived war last year. The Houthis can also hurt the United States more directly too...Camp Lemonnier in Djbouti is just 70 miles away from Yemen, on the other side of the Strait. Two very different conspiracy theories have followed the University of Idaho murders, and Tony Brueski takes both apart in this combined breakdown of the Kohberger case. One theory destroyed an innocent man's reputation before an arrest was ever made. The other tries to undo a guilty plea years later. Before Bryan Kohberger was ever a suspect, the internet had already decided who did it, a young man grieving the woman he loved.
