Despite headlines that have dominated the news stating concerns about the stock market and its ability to keep thriving under a new political administration, Mick Heyman, founder of Heyman Investment Counseling, doesn't see the warning signs of a terrible market. "Close your eyes, it's fear of heights, and just let the long-term trend continue on," Heyman said. He is not the only one who sees little trouble evident on the horizon, as Vuk Vuković, chief investment officer at Oraclum Capital, sees the economy being able to avoid a recession throughout 2025. Ravi Chintapalli from the Global Fixed Income team at Nuveen, says in The NAVigator that structural changes have made the junk bond market stronger, while reducing default risk; as a result, yields of 7 percent should be normal and comfortable in 2025. Plus Mac Sykes, portfolio manager at Gabelli talks financial stocks in the Market Call.

Almost a year ago, New York Community Bank (NYSE: NYCB) acquired Signature Bank's assets as a fresh banking crisis had emerged almost overnight. The fallout from the failure of Silicon Valley Bank wreaked havoc on financial markets and raised fears of a 2008 scenario.Over the past week, those fears have again come to life. NYCB issued a dismal earnings report, followed by a set of questionable disclosures. The stock tumbled, and commercial real estate values are again in question. With more write-offs and loan losses surely to come, why are many of the S&P Real Estate Sector fund components showing signs of life and stock price momentum? We pose this question to our guest, Katie Stockton, of Fairlead Funds.Fairlead recently added The Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) to their portfolio based on proprietary research utilizing technical analysis. Mortgage rates, which were in the 2-3% range during Covid, have recently retreated from the eight percent level and are bouncing between 6.5 and 7%.The stock market has reached new highs, unemployment is low, and job creation is strong. What comes next? What would John Bogle, founder of Vanguard Funds, comment if he were alive today? Would he continue to advocate for long-term investing in low-cost index-related funds? Yes.What does our guest, Katie Stockton, a Chartered Market Technician, have to say about current market conditions? Let's find out. Technical analysis is a methodology using charts and trends for forecasting the direction of prices through the study of past market data, primarily price and volume. March has been quite an eventful month. In mid-March, we saw the banking crisis begin, which started with SVB becoming insolvent, causing the Fed to pivot from their original plan of raising interest rates to cool down the economy. Since these rate hikes put pressure on banks, like SVB, the Fed now must decide to either cut rates to stop the bleeding or continue. In the last FOMC meeting, the Fed increased rates by 25 basis points, instead of the 50 basis points that most investors predicted. Does this mean the Fed will start cutting rates? On the plus side, we saw gold futures rally, with the largest percentage gain since November 2022. Silver has also been on the rise this month, starting this month at $28.51 and closing at $32.66, a 14.5% increase. See what David Brady, Technical Analyst and Sprott Money Writer, thinks in our Monthly Wrap Up podcast. In this edition of The Monthly Wrap-Up, you'll hear: • How the recent banking crisis and changing projections for future Fed interest rate hikes impacted the current state of monetary policy and the economy • Is the banking crisis really over or is it just a pause? • David's Gold and Silver future predictions

McClellan says there will be great trading opportunities within the downturn -- including the month of April -- but emphasized that the economy has a lot to digest before real recovery begins. Jose Torres, senior economist at Interactive Brokers, expects a recession to begin in the second or third quarter of 2023, but says the decline is likely to be shallow, extending for six to 12 months depending on how the Federal Reserve responds to it. For investors looking to deal with those issues, Steve O'Neill, from RiverNorth says in The NAVigator segment that municipal bond closed-end funds are 'in the 99th percentile of cheapness,' making them a good relative bargain for investors willing to ride out the current storm. And in the Market Call, Allen Bond, head of research at Jensen Investment Management, discusses high-quality businesses at reasonable prices.

Tom welcomes John Roque back to the show. John is senior managing director and head of technical strategy for 22V Research. Gold is showing decent relative strength. We're in a commodity cycle since the Covid low of 2020. He is uncertain if gold will participate because of inflation or if it will outperform during periods of deflation. He wonders if gold is hindered because of a lack of investor interest. At an institutional level gold may not have the interest of fund managers. Those with good experiences in gold markets are few and far between in this era. John discusses his experiences with those that invest in gold over his career. The Fed balance sheet is at unprecedented heights and we see speculation across all asset classes. Gold remains restricted with many investors tired of looking at it. For this reason, gold may be a good contrarian play. Crypto is an easy asset to acquire in this era and many believe that it only goes up. He discusses some of the controversial players in the Bitcoin space including MicroStrategy and El Salvador. Gold might be starting to outperform and it carries a lot less risk. He discusses how ESG mandates are pushing more investors toward technology and this has caused issues with capital in other sectors like energy and resources. The only way investors will embrace other sectors is when tech fails to participate. No one is prepared for tech to underperform. He doesn't believe the Fed was evaluating the CPI number properly. They seem to have overlooked the data. Historically, CPI can get quite non-transitory for extended periods. The PPI shows that the S&P often has problems when inflation gets high. Inflation will likely be even higher by the end of the year. John expects the Fed will closely watch the S&P and do their best to keep it propped up. If it comes under pressure their confidence to taper will falter. The concentration occurring in the S&P is quite concerning and there is plenty of room for investors to get hurt. A busy mom, she searched for ways to purchase high-quality, authentic African grocery items online. Unable to find any, she decided to create one. Ethnic District is an e-commerce marketplace where African CPG brands can sell their products directly to customers, retail and wholesale. She started Ethnic District with just $80 and has grown it into a six-figure business organically as a solo entrepreneur. Companies like Warner Brothers Studios, CBS, and the Museum of Food and Drink have already used Ethnic District to source products for PR packages, events, and recipe boxes. She is an IfundWomen Entrepreneur of the Year Semifinalist in the Food and Beverage Category. With Ethnic District, Whitney hopes to bring more awareness to African products and make them more easily accessible in the western world. She wants to see African products become a part of mainstream American consumer culture.
