Send us a textIt is the Texas HS Football Podcast with Taylor Arenz 100th Episode and she couldn't be more excited and proud to hit this milestone.Back in the summer of 2022, Host Taylor Arenz started this podcast with a simple goal: to shine a spotlight on the incredible athletes and coaches that make Texas high school football so special. Her very first interview was with five-star defensive lineman David Hicks Jr., who is now at Texas A&M, living up to that five-star ranking. Over the past three seasons, she has had the honor of conducting 295 interviews!!!!  In the early days, Taylor would pack seven or eight interviews into a single episode—though they were much shorter conversations. As the podcast evolved, she has focused on getting to know each guest in more depth, allowing for longer, more meaningful interviews. With the rise of NIL and the transfer portal reshaping college football, this podcast is more important than ever. It gives players a platform to tell their stories, introduce themselves to coaches, and get their names out there. This has never just been about stats or rankings—it's about getting to know the people that make up Texas HS football. So, thank you for being part of this journey Taylor is beyond grateful for your support, and here's to another 100 episodes!A special milestone needs a special guest so this week we have the legendary Texas Sports Hall of Fame coach and current Lovejoy Leopards Head Coach Todd Dodge!

Two-time Baylor All-American and 2005 NCAA Champion Sophia Young-Malcolm joined Baylor's staff as Assistant AD for Player Development in May of 2021. Young-Malcolm played on Baylor's first NCAA Championship team in 2005, was a two-time All-American and one of seven players in BU history to amass both 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career. As Assistant AD for Player Development, Young will serve the student-athletes in the women's basketball program as the liaison between the Baylor Student-Athlete Center for Excellence (SACE). The SACE department serves student-athletes in two major areas: academic services and character formation. Young will also spearhead the program's community service efforts and assist in recruiting. Young's four-year playing career at Baylor spanned from 2002-06. Through the 2020-21 season, Young still ranks fourth all-time in scoring, fifth in field goal percentage, second in rebounds (first in NCAA era), and second in double-doubles. At the time of her selection, Young was Baylor's highest-ever draft pick in the WNBA when she was the fourth overall selection of the San Antonio Silver Stars in 2006. The Silver Stars got a solid return on their investment with Young playing 301 career games over nine seasons, including three WNBA All-Star selections. She tallied 4,300 career points and 1,807 rebounds in a career that spanned from 2006-2015 and resulted in a selection to the San Antonio Stars' All-Decade Team. Young also played overseas in the Euroleague and Eurocup. After leaving professional basketball, Young continued leading her AAU basketball program called Sophia Young Elite in San Antonio. Her programs produced student-athletes that went to Division I schools that included UTEP, Oklahoma State, Abilene Christian and Indiana, among others. She also coached for two seasons as head coach at the Cornerstone Christian School in San Antonio, collecting a winning record in each of the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. Since that time, she has served the San Antonio community as a realtor. Young was born in Saint Vincent, West Indies, and she played her high school basketball in Shreveport, La. at Evangel Christian Academy. On April 18, 1931, Texas Sports Hall of Fame member and hometown son of Saint Jo, Texas, Harley Sewell was born. After growing up in Montague County, the Saint Jo Panther football star attended the University of Texas in Austin. Standing 6 feet 1 inch and weighing in at 230 pounds, Harvey Sewell was a dominant defensive player and was a 1952 All American. He was the Defensive Most valuable player at the 1953 Cotton Bowl against Tennessee. The UT defense, thanks in large part to Mr. Sewell, allowed only 6 Tennessee first downs and 32 yards of total offense. Tennessee had negative 14 rushing yards for the game. He was also an All Southwest Conference guard in 1951 and 1952. Everyone remembered him as a very hard working, exceptionally quick player. Sewell went on to play eleven seasons in the NFL. He was the thirteenth pick in the first round of the 1953 NFL draft and was selected by the Detroit Lions. Detroit moved him from defense and made him an offensive guard. He started at right guard as a rookie and was important part of the team that won the 1953 NFL championship. He played for Detroit from 1953 to 1962 and then played for the Los Angeles Rams for 1963. Sewell made it to 4 Pro Bowls, in 1957, 1958, 1959, and in 1962. After his career as a player ended, he went on to scout for the Los Angeles Rams for 37 years. Harley Sewell was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000. Mr. Sewell died at age 80 on December 17, 2011. The Texas History Lessons Theme song, Walking Through History, was written and recorded by Derrick McClendon. This is a very special day because this is the first podcast that I have invited a guest to appear on my show! So who do I have in store for you? Well, she is a two-time Olympian, gold and silver medalist, Pro Fastpitch All-Star and 3-time USA National Softball Player of the Year with the Texas Longhorns. Those of you who know softball know I am talking about the 6'2” lefty out of my hometown, Katy, TX, my longtime teammate, coaching colleague and friend – the one and only, Cat Osterman. She is absolutely one of the most dominating pitchers in the world. I personally watched her strike out thousands of batters in my 8 years of playing shortstop and second base behind her. She makes every team she plays on better… and not just a little better, championship better. She will be competing for the 2019 USA Softball team in hopes of competing for the Gold Medal once again in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics. While with Team USA from 2001 to 2010, Osterman compiled a cumulative record of 59-4 with a minuscule 0.38 ERA. She amassed 832 strikeouts in 425.2 total innings pitched. (www.si.com) In 2013, Osterman was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame alongside New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, former Dallas Cowboys RB Walt Garrison, former NBA Champion Shaquille O'Neal, and former Heisman Trophy winner from UT Ricky Williams. What an incredible group of athletes. Today we are going to take a look at Cat's journey as a young ball player that led to her success and dominance on the mound. We will dig into the mindset she will take into her training as she prepares to lace up her cleats and take the field once again with TEAM USA. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/just-dig-in-radio/message
