On this week's show, Dana, Julia, and Steve are joined by special fourth guest host: Wesley Morris of the New York Times. The foursome wield their sharpest critical tools for a discussion of the horror hit Weapons. Whether the twisty thrill ride hits its intended target— and what exactly is said target— is up for debate. Next, they take up the latest Spike Lee joint Highest 2 Lowest which reunites the legendary director with Denzel Washington and riffs on an Akira Kurosawa classic. Finally, they examine the “Performative Male” trend popping up in TikTok, style sections, and costume contests around the globe. Is it an embodiment of real gendered anxiety or internet nonsense? In an exclusive Slate Plus bonus episode, the panel gets into all the shocks and surprises of Weapons's finale in a spoiler-filled conversation. Email us your thoughts at culturefest@slate.com. The Baltimore Orioles have extended Samuel Basallo a week into his major league career. The 21-year-old reportedly agreed to an eight-year, $67 million extension that can max out at $88.5 million with incentives. The Orioles seem to like what they see in the young catcher, but that leads to questioning what will become of Adley Rutschman. Nothing will happen to him right now as the former top prospect has gone to the IL with an oblique injury. What does his future with the Orioles look like and when does Basallo become the guy? Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss this surprising turn of events.Basallo hasn't been the only young player making moves as multiple teams have recently called up star prospects. The Pirates, Rays, Red Sox, Reds and Guardians have all made moves that caught Jordan's attention. He fills you in on all of the prospects who have been brought up and shares his insight on each of them.Later in the show, the ever-evolving world of media rights is the hot topic. It appears that Major League Baseball's media rights situation is starting to wrap-up with ESPN, Netflix and NBC all being involved. Apple is also, potentially, joining the group. What does this mean for the fans' ability to watch games going forward? Jake and Jordan give their thoughts on the whole situation. Plus, Jake gives a special Little League World Series report. With the championship games to be played this weekend, the guys reflect on the tournament and Jake reviews who the players' favorite MLB players are. They discuss what kind of insight this gives to the state of the game and the players who were selected.Lastly, everyone's favorite time of the week. The Good, The Bad & The Uggla. A former MLB player announces his new baseball academy, a current MLB player notches his first steal in the majors and a potential future MLB player's father takes to X about his son's fender bender incident. Plus, an ugly Red Sox vs. Yankees matchup.Close out your week at the Baseball Bar-B-Cast. This week on That Sober Guy Podcast , the #1 sober podcast for men since 2014 - Shane sits down with Kansas City Chiefs defensive coach and Super Bowl Champion Britt Reid, son of legendary head coach Andy Reid. Britt opens up about his journey through some of life’s darkest valleys: the devastating car accident just days before the Super Bowl that nearly claimed the life of a 5-year-old girl, his time in prison, and how he stumbled across That Sober Guy Podcast while behind bars. What started as a lifeline in a cell has grown into part of his path toward sobriety, redemption, and rebuilding his life. The conversation also digs deep into Britt’s family history, including the heartbreaking loss of his older brother to a drug overdose, a story that is now also featured in ESPN’s brand-new docuseries “The Kingdom”, directed by Kristen Lappas (of The Last Dance fame). The six-episode series chronicles the Chiefs’ run to Super Bowl LIX and their global impact on football, but it also shines a light on the real-life struggles behind the highlight reels, including Britt’s. As always, Shane keeps it authentic, raw, and even light-hearted at times. From gridiron glory to gritty sobriety work, this episode is about far more than football, it’s about second chances, personal ownership, and finding freedom.
