Welcome to another Unrelated Ghosts episode where we dive into two locations that have nothing in common with one another. Nothing except that they're both haunted, of course. First, we'll stop in the quaint town of Felicity, Ohio and visit the Broadwell Funeral Home. The current owner purchased the property with the intent to remodel it to move it, but after several paranormal occurrences, his wife left and has not stepped foot back into the house since. Visitors have experienced shadow people, disembodied voices, and poltergeist activity. Our second stop takes us to the oldest operating restaurant in the U.S.: the White Horse Tavern in Newport, RI. The building is verging on being 400 years old which might explain why the ghosts include a colonial patron, a spirit known as “the guardian,” and the ghost of Rebecca Cornell who convicted her supposed killer from beyond the grave! We began our show by discussing the history behind America's iconic diners, and then forked up some of our favorite spots!  Of course some of these beloved diners are located in close proximity to PA and South Jersey, but when you love to eat, you love to travel too!  So be sure to tune in to hear some of the lovely memories that Gene Blum and Amaris Pollock have from years of their own foodie adventures!  And what better way to celebrate something new than giving back to others in need?  Which is exactly what Chef Derek Davis of Libertine in Philadelphia is doing with the launch of their new brunch options!  During the remainder of September and throughout September, they'll be serving up delicious Bailys, Bagels, and Benedicts with a side of donations to a local LGBTQ+ organization in the neighborhood.  You can hear all about it when you tune into this week's episode, and be sure to stay till the end to hear how Chef Davis makes the scrumptious burgers that a well-known food critic and columnist loves! Lastly, we want you to have your cake and eat it too.  Which is why we brought attorney and entrepreneur, Cassandra Burnett, on the show to discuss Lizzie's Love Cakes!  Born from the love of her mother (and recipes passed down from generation to generation), Cassandra conceptualized an idea of baking cakes that her family grew up enjoying and turned it into Lizzie's Love Cakes! in 2020.  Since then Cassandra has found her sweet ending with the success and growth of her business venture, and is now branching out by offering classes at Old City Kitchen.

We discuss one of the best adaptations on TV so far with The Sandman Chapter 6 "The Sound of Her Wings" in our spoiler filled podcast. Two beautiful executed episodes with a brilliant cast. We could watch this one forever. The Sandman Chapter 6 "The Sound of Her Wings" Details Episode Directed by Mairzee Almas Teleplay for this episode written by Lauren Bello Staff Writers Catherine Smyth-McMullen and Vanessa Benton After recovering his helm, pouch of sand and ruby, Morpheus feels aimless and unmotivated like there is something missing from his duties. But his big sister, Death, comes to meet him and asks her brother to accompany her as she escorts the deceased to the afterlife. She explains that there was a time in her history that she too felt that she was just going through the motions as the inevitable end for everyone. As she goes about her work she shows Morpheus the possibility of finding purpose and fulfilment in his duties as ruler of the Dreaming, as she has since realised that she is the last connection that all beings have before they leave the world. All they crave is a friendly smile and a kind ear.Morpheus is reminded of a bet he once made with his sister after overhearing a young man called Hob Gadling declare that he will never die as he believes that life only ends when you give up. In the White Horse Tavern in the year 1389 Death agrees to spare Gadling and grant him his wish for as long as he wants with the agreement that he will meet dream at the same spot every 100 years and tell him of his experiences. Each time they meet, Hob Gadling describes his life and maintains that no matter the turns his life takes, he still does not wish for death. Through the wonderful or awful centuries or whether his mysterious meetings with Dream are being investigated by Johanna Constantine, Hob reiterates that his life is his life and he never wants it to end.In 1889 their conversation leads to Hob hypothesizing that Morpheus continues to meet with him because he is lonely and needs a friend, which greatly offends Morpheus. As the next century passes, Morpheus fails to show for their next meeting due to his capture by Burgess. When their age-old drinking hole is sold, Hob chooses a new tavern a block away, hoping that Morpheus will choose to find him.In the present, with his Sister's words of encouragement in his ears and craving connection again Morpheus seeks out Hob Gadling who joyfully greets his Endless drinking companion as the two friends catch up on missed time. Big Bulls in a Bear Market We are in the midst of a bear market that is giving some flashbacks to 2018, yet even though crypto and stocks are down, there seems to be a lot of money flowing from big investors and big companies in the DeFi space.   Why is Big Money Flowing During a Bear Market? On Tuesday, Coinbase became the first crypto-focused company to be included in Forbes Fortune 500, pulling $7.8 billion in revenue for the 2021 fiscal year. Projects like ZenLedger and Babel Finance are raking in huge capital investment. But it still begs the question: why are we seeing such big crypto companies doing well or getting funding while in the midst of a bear market?   Sam Bankman Fried Says he could Spend up to $1 Billion in Next Presidential Election Sam Bankman-Fried says he could spend up to $1 billion or more in the 2024 election, which would easily make him the biggest-ever political donor in a single election. Speaking to Jacob Goldstein on his podcast “Whats You Problem?”, Sam said he expects to give “north of $100 million” in the next presidential election and that he has a “soft ceiling” of $1 billion if candidates like Donald Trump were to run.   WWOC: Someone Stole Seth Green's Bored Ape, Which Was Supposed To Star In His New Show Seth Greens new animated show “White Horse Tavern” has been halted due to Seth falling for an NFT phishing scandal. This episode reviews the IP ownership rights associated with Board Ape #8398, after actor and producer Seth Green (who licensed it for his series, White Horse Tavern) was scammed in a phishing attack. The stolen NFT was then sold to "DarkWing84" for $200,000. This episode is largely based on an enlightening thread by James Grimmelmann (@grimmelm), who dove deep into the issue, with additional notes from prominent crypto lawyers Drew Hinkes (@propelforward), Jake Chervinsky (@jchervinsky), Preston Byrne (@prestonjbyrne), and others. We also cover the recent decision in Jarkesy v. SEC, in which the Fifth Circuit essentially stated that the SEC must go through Federal courts in fraud cases. The implications may be greater than that, and this will be an important case impacting the future of the SEC. Other updates include a decision from Hermès International, et al. v Mason Rothschild, an update from LUNA, LexDAO's latest guidance on metaverse lawyering, and more. This week’s episode is all about Tony! First off, he’s now fully vaccinated! Wei-Shen calls him out for bragging that he doesn’t (usually) get reactions to vaccines. Tony also had his first in-person interview at the very-loved White Horse Tavern in Downtown Manhattan. We discuss his issues with anxiety and how he has dealt with it so far. Then, they discuss how things will start to change when people start to go back to offices. There will be new anxieties that people have to deal with. How do firms manage that without alienating their workforce? How do they encourage their people to overcome their anxieties instead of shrinking away from things that make them uncomfortable? The key, we think, is also in showing empathy, even when we don’t fully understand the why or how.

The story begins in New York City on Thomas’ final tour in 1953 – a tour that was meant to save him from ruin. The Welsh poet's reputation for heavy drinking and philandering would soon be forgotten as eager audiences are captivated by his poetry lectures. Full of poetry, passion, and an ultimate betrayal, the poet who gave us Do not go gentle into that good night, Under Milkwood, and stories and broadcasts such as A Child’s Christmas in Wales and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog, rages, loves and fights against the gathering darkness. One day at the local White Horse Tavern, he drinks 18 double scotches, naming each one after his life experience. Soon his fantasies, his memories, and an uncertain present blend into a wild, surreal farewell to the world.  Last Call stars Rhys Ifans (The Fantastic Flitcrofts) as Thomas, two-time Academy Award-nominee John Malkovich (In the Line of Fire, Places in the Heart) as Thomas’s confidant and enabler, Dr. Felton, and in supporting roles, Rodrigo Santoro (Westworld), Romola Garai (Atonement), Tony Hale (Veep) and Zosia Mamet (Girls) Last Call was written and directed by Steven Bernstein (Decoding Annie Parker). The art and antics of rebellious figures in 1950s American nightlife―from the Beat Generation to eccentric jazz musicians and comedians―have long fascinated fans and scholars alike. In The Rebel Café: Sex, Race, and Politics in Cold War America’s Nightclub Underground(Johns Hopkins University Press, 2018), Stephen R. Duncan flips the frame, focusing on the New York and San Francisco bars, nightclubs, and coffeehouses from which these cultural icons emerged. Duncan shows that the sexy, smoky sites of bohemian Greenwich Village and North Beach offered not just entertainment but doorways to a new sociopolitical consciousness. This book is a collective biography of the places that harbored beatniks, blabbermouths, hipsters, playboys, and partisans who altered the shape of postwar liberal politics and culture. Throughout this period, Duncan argues, nightspots were crucial―albeit informal―institutions of the American democratic public sphere. Amid the Red Scare’s repressive politics, the urban underground of New York and San Francisco acted as both a fallout shelter for left-wingers and a laboratory for social experimentation. Touching on literary figures from Norman Mailer and Amiri Baraka to Susan Sontag as well as performers ranging from Dave Brubeck to Maya Angelou to Lenny Bruce, The Rebel Café profiles hot spots such as the Village Vanguard, the hungry i, the Black Cat Cafe, and the White Horse Tavern. Ultimately, the book provides a deeper view of 1950s America, not simply as the black-and-white precursor to the Technicolor flamboyance of the sixties but as a rich period of artistic expression and identity formation that blended cultural production and politics. This Rockademia U podcast takes you back in time and place to the Delmonico Hotel in New York on that day, when an interaction between Bob Dylan and The Beatles fueled a change in the course of their careers and pop music. In this first episode, Neil talks about his blogging journey on the LinkedIn Publishing platform and interviews John White who shares his experiences and success with blogging on LinkedIn. Show Notes Exactly 12 months ago today, I was given access to contribute my professional insights on the LinkedIn publishing platform that was being rolled out to its members. One Year later, I have published 83 blog posts that have reached nearly 1 million article views and somehow amassed over 7,000 followers along the way. The greatest reward I have received from writing on LinkedIn is developing real friendships with like-minded individuals on a similar journey.   There is a long list of real friendships with fellow writers such as John White, Dustin McKissen and Paul Drury along with many others who inspire me to improve. On a recent holiday to New York, I even met with another LinkedIn friend and mentor Tom Ziegler at the White Horse Tavern where Dylan Thomas famously enjoyed his last whiskey. There are many discussions of how technology is separating us rather than uniting us all. However, my experience of the last 12 months has proved that engaging with your audience and genuine networking that is not used for some kind of cynical self-gain is the essence of how humans learn from each other and move forward. What Next? Now that my fear of hitting the publish on a blog post is a distant memory combined with the knowledge that engagement is about conversations rather than dialogue, a new idea was born. On average there are around 66,000 people reading my blog posts each month, rather than this remain a one-way conversation, I want to engage with every reader. The same fear of hitting publish has returned as my first Podcast became available oniTunes, RSS and Web, where I interview the prolific John White about his similar journey on LinkedIn long-form posting. Podcasting allows me to open up this new communications channel and broadcast your thoughts that I am hoping might even challenge my thought process too. My plan is to offer an open invite to anyone that would like to feature in an interview. You could even just message me from your phone with a recording of a few words with your view on of the latest tech trend posts that I publish here on LinkedIn. This idea was born out of a moment of madness and a genuine desire to connect with each and every one of my readers. Maybe, John Lennon said it best with the lyrics ‘You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us’.

The Greenwich Village Literary Pub Crawl has been leading tourists into bars rich in bookish history since 1998. Inside each bar, you take a drink and listen as your actor/tour guide tells of the history of the establishment and of the great authors who have hung out, gotten drunk and written there. You'll get recitations from relevant texts and stops at "unique sites that are literary, historical, or alcoholic in nature." Tours start off every Saturday at 2pm, beginning at the White Horse Tavern, 567 Hudson Street and 11th Street, and last for three hours. (Take the 1 train to Christopher Street; Left on w. 10th to Hudson St.; Right/North on Hudson St. to West 11th Street). Tickets are $20, $15  for students/seniors. To make a reservation call (212) 613-5796. I caught up with owner Eric Chase at the White Horse recently to learn more about the Crawl and why literary pilgrimage for many assumes such importance.
