In this powerful episode, I speak with William Allen, a man who lived for 30 years as a “transgender woman” named Maggie before detransitioning between 2020-2023. William shares his remarkable life story, from his earliest childhood memories of gender dysphoria through his transition in 1993, to his religious awakening and eventual detransition. His newly released book, "Not Man Enough to Be a Woman," details this extraordinary journey.William begins by sharing the viral social media post that caught my attention on Detrans Awareness Day. He then takes us back to his childhood in the 1960s, where despite appearing as a typical boy who played with neighborhood friends and joined the Boy Scouts, he secretly wished he had been born a girl and would dress in his mother's clothes when alone. He describes how throughout his youth, he couldn't understand why he had these feelings, finding no answers even in psychology textbooks during college. William shares the story of his first marriage, when his gender dysphoria temporarily subsided during the initial years of falling in love, only to return "with a vengeance" later, ultimately destroying his marriage.By 1993, William began hormone therapy, had his beard removed through electrolysis, and underwent surgeries. He details the physical changes from estrogen, the workplace transition, and how he was able to "pass" in society as a woman for many years.William speaks candidly about his life as Maggie. He describes a deathbed reconciliation with his estranged father in 2015 and the conversation decades earlier that gave his book its title - when his father told him he wasn't "man enough to be a woman."The turning point in William's story came in 2020 when he experienced a profound religious transformation that changed his perspective on his life and identity. This led to his decision to detransition, a three-year process that included saving money, finding a surgeon willing to perform a mastectomy, legal name changes, and rebuilding relationships.William's story raises profound questions: What happens when a false identity embraced for decades no longer aligns with one's deepest values? After living thirty years as Maggie, William's return to his birth identity offers a rare window into the complexities of gender dysphoria, transition, and detransition that few have experienced over such an extended period. His story challenges simplistic narratives while offering compassion for those struggling with gender identity issues.William Allen struggled with gender identity disorder from childhood in the 1960s. Hiding his condition throughout his teenage, college, and young adult years, his obsession only grew stronger, eventually ruining his marriage. He began his “transition” in 1993. After hormones, beard removal, voice coaching, and surgery, he "passed" and settled into a successful life, until he rediscovered his faith. He completed his detransition in 2023, after 30 years living as a “transwoman.” William now speaks out against the transgender movement's deceptions and intentional targeting of children. Are you giving God your leftovers? In this soul-searching episode, Jesse Cope challenges us to examine how we allocate our time and what those choices reveal about our true priorities. When we honestly assess the minutes and hours devoted to scrolling, watching sports, or working out compared to our time with God, the results can be uncomfortable—even convicting. With raw honesty, Jesse admits his own struggle with rushing through spiritual disciplines just to check them off a list. "Why in the world would we rush through time with the God of the universe?" he asks. This powerful question opens a deeper exploration into what we truly trust and value in our lives. The podcast moves seamlessly from personal devotion to marital relationships, drawing parallels between how we approach God and how we treat our spouses. Jesse highlights the danger of demanding that our partners fulfill biblical roles while neglecting our own responsibilities—a hypocrisy that has led to countless broken marriages. "If you're not loving your spouse each day," he cautions, "then you don't really love them."The heart of this episode lies in its compelling accounts of Christian martyrs from history. Through the stories of John Hooper and John Bradford, who were executed during "Bloody Mary" Tudor's reign, listeners are reminded of the supreme courage of those who chose death over denying their faith. Jesse's retelling of Bradford's final words before execution—"Brother, be of good comfort, for we shall have a merry supper with the Lord this night"—provides a powerful perspective on what matters most in life.Join the conversation that might just reshape your priorities, strengthen your faith, and inspire you to stand firm in your convictions, regardless of the cost. What would you sacrifice for what you believe? His expert insights illuminate the qualities that make veterans stand out in the civilian job market and how they can effectively present these traits. We then shift our focus to William Allen, a veteran who made a bold leap  into the world of Venture Capital. On the outside, William's story is one of seamless transition, but on the inside, he shared that the transition process 'can suck' and the programs and process in place aren't the greatest.  Regardless, Will has tapped into a deep desire to learn the VC market, and as a fellow Podcaster for "America Builds" he can fuel, and refuel his unwavering ambitions. He shares his experiences, challenges, and the lessons learned in this high-stakes industry, providing inspiration for those considering a similar path. Finally, we hear from Brandi Brickler, a five-year military veteran and former military spouse, now serving Hawaii and Texas as a mortgage broker. Brandi offers a dual perspective, both personal and professional, on the transition journey. Her unique insights into adapting military skills for civilian success are particularly valuable for those looking to understand the nuances of this life-changing shift.  She also gives salient advice for homebuyers who need 'jobs' in order to qualify for their mortgages, and why landing that job is important to get the house. WhetSupport the showX CHANGE Podcast Series will showcase future podcasts on exciting topics. After George Floyd's police murder and the Black Lives Matter movement explosion in 2020, the field of international relations rushed to engage the topic of race after ignoring it for half a century. When they did, they largely acted as if early generations of international-relations scholars hadn't engaged with or theorized the topic. But they had. In this episode, Van sits down with Robbie Shilliam, a multidisciplinary IR scholar and postcolonial theorist, to talk about:What made Hans Morgenthau a theorist of race relations, not just international relations; Why the field of IR has a racial blind spot in the first place; Why IR's leading journals, editors, and scholars re-engaged racial questions after 2020 but without drawing on what the discipline's own canonical thinkers had to say about race; Why the Gen Z and Millennial generation of scholars are possibly built differently when it comes to racial issues and historical IR;How the concept of “frontier” unites Republicanism and imperialism in some of the early thinkers of IR like Frederick Jackson Turner, William Allen, and Merze Tate.I was sick as a dog when we recorded this, but it was one of the most generative conversations I've ever had on the pod and Robbie is one soulful human being. The Non-Prophets 22.31.1 2023-08-02 featuring Cynthia Cynthia McDonald, Infidel 64, Timothy Bethel and Teo El ATeo New Florida standards teach students that some Black people benefited from slavery because it taught useful skills, NBC News, By Antonio Planas, June 20, 2023https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/new-florida-standards-teach-black-people-benefited-slavery-taught-usef-rcna95418A new Florida standard teaches students that some black people benefited from slavery because it taught useful skills. The stop woke act requires Florida teachers to promote the view that black people benefited from slavery because they could learn skills that they could use in life in order for them to actually earn a living. We could speculate all day about why they do this, but the most obvious reason seems to be they don't like the idea of dealing with the oppression of minorities, women, LGBTQ people anytime they're faced with one of these groups being oppressed. They have to try to soften it and make statements about how it's really not that bad and certainly not as bad as these groups are making out to be. They claim these groups just want attention and they want more rights than other groups.Religious people love to act like they're the most suppressed people on Earth all the time. Bemoaning the idea that they can't even go into a Target because they sell kids t-shirts with LGBTQ on it.The goal of the new Florida standards is to completely undermine and devalue the experiences of slaves and the lasting impact slavery has had on the African-American community. They hide behind words like truth, but the reality is they want to create a narrative that the American slavery of black people wasn't that bad, and that it actually helped a lot of black people.Unfortunately, we have this group of people who they don't really want to think about the issues. They're so preconditioned against this woke agenda, that the anti-woke act sounds great to them.If you believe this view that slaves were singing happily in the field and try to pretend this is some type of trade program where they were going to end up with a lot of money and a great life at the end, you are being patently dishonest. You can't get a personal benefit if you're a slave for life. The violent indiscriminate massacre of African-Americans in Tulsa, Atlanta, and DC is treated as if there was some sort of parity, as if black people were also actively perpetuating violence in these events. Hundreds of people died in these massacres, but we could not bother to even count them. It is irresponsible to ignore that the people who died were guilty only of being black, and this fact is being whitewashed. It is telling that out of sixteen names listed as “beneficiaries”, only four of them were confirmed to ever having been a slave. You would think that their “comprehensive and rigorous instruction on African American History” could at least come up with a better list. Anthony Johnson was used as an example of a slave that benefited, but in actuality he was never a slave he was an indentured servant. Another was born 20 years after slavery was abolished.William Allen, the lead revisionist on this rewrite of history used the good old “a few isolated expressions without context.” excuse to defend their work. Haven't we all heard that one before? If that is the best they can do, then perhaps they should go back to school themselves. But not in Florida.

Is it possible that the Republicans will finally bring impeachment charges against Joe Biden? Everyday, more evidence emerges of the foreign business dealings that Hunter Biden and his father have been profiting from. The corruption of the Biden crime family knows no boundaries. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy teased an impeachment inquiry into Biden while speaking to Sean Hannity on Fox News. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked if Biden was ever in business with Hunter. She denied that Joe Biden had anything to do with Hunter's foreign business dealings, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Also, there is a lot of controversy over Kamala Harris' false claim that Florida is teaching kids that enslaved people benefitted from slavery. One of the co-authors of the Florida curriculum, Dr. William Allen, explained that they are just teaching children the truth about slavery. Also, Fellow Salem radio host, former police officer, and political commentator Brandon Tatum joins Mike to discuss their upcoming “Saving America TownHall” event in San Diego and more!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

McCumber delves deep into the negative aspects of CBDCS, offering in detail how the installation would kill banks and bring ultimate control to the federal government. McCumber explains this point, telling how exactly the government would be the ultimate proprietor of every aspect of life if we head down this path. Then, Dom plays back some clips from Kamala Harris, who's trying to reframe the new Florida curriculum as racist. Dom plays back clips from the author of the curricula, Dr. William Allen, and explains how he'd prefer both the other and national talking heads to respond to ridiculous claims such as this. Also, in Dan Time with Dom, Dan tells about his experience shopping in Philadelphia with most products locked up, and asks Dom why there hasn't been much hype around the UFO hearings on Capitol Hill. Bill is someone who was born in the 1950's and grew up in a culture where "men were men." His dad was a WW2 veteran and society told Bill that men were not supposed to be sensitive or emotional. From an early age though, Bill struggled with this and it wasn't until much later in life that he realized he actually had a highly sensitive personality trait (which about 20% of the entire population--men and women-- also have). He eventually became a psychology major and an author who spent a lot of time working to understand more about this trait. He has since published two books called, On Being a Sensitive Man, Success Strategies to Harness Your High Sensing Nature and, Confessions of a Sensitive Man, An Unconventional Defense of Sensitive Men. And as Bill puts it, "I wrote these books for every man or boy that was told that they are too sensitive or too emotional; that they aren't man enough or masculine enough simply because they feel more, sense more, and experience a broader range of emotions." This made for a really interesting and dynamic discussion. Bill is really knowledgable on the topic so he was able to explain the scientific and biological aspects of highly sensitive people; but we also dove into the societal and philosophical implications of it as well. Is high sensitivity an adaptive or maladaptive trait? Do we think older generations of men can ever be comfortable fully embracing this trait? If more men tapped into their high sensitivity would we have been able to defeat the evil in the world like we faced in WW2? Some of these questions were intentionally provocative, in the spirit of the show, to really try to explore the implications of being highly sensitive. And Bill was great at providing really thoughtful and candid responses to all of them. In the end, I think Bill is right that we need to embrace who we truly are, whether that be highly sensitive or not. That is obviously much easier said than done, but hopefully as we continue to evolve as humans it becomes much more prominent.

My guest on this episode of the Barbells & Brothers podcast is William Allen. William is an author of two books about being a highly sensitive man. He also has a blog called The Sensitive Man. William's mission is to shed more light on highly sensitive males and the much-needed role they can fill in our society. It is estimated that about twenty percent of the world's population is made up of individuals with the Highly Sensitive personality trait.  About half of that group is comprised of males. That's about 500-700 million men. Many if not most of those men know that they are different, but don't know about the personality trait. William's goal is to share with these men about how they can see the trait as a gift and needed right now in our time.

“Toughen up. Be a man. Don't be so sensitive.”   As a young boy, these are some of the messages you might have heard. Society tells us that men are supposed to be strong, successful and never show emotion.    It's time to challenge the stigma that men can't be sensitive. If you have a tendency to pick up on nuances or think deeply about ideas, it may be because you're a highly sensitive person (HSP).    Highly sensitive people are believed to make up 20% of our population. It's a trait that's equally common among both men and women, yet often misunderstood. My guest today is an author of two important books: Confessions of a Sensitive Man and On Being a Sensitive Man.   On today's episode, William Allen joins me to shed more light on highly sensitive males and the much-needed role they need to take in our society.
