Ihr Roman „Lichtungen“ erzählt einmal mehr von Rumänien, dem Land, in dem Wolff geboren wurde. Tatsächlich „pointiert“ ist Wolffs kunstvolle Prosa natürlich insofern nicht, als sie eine Meisterin des poetisch Ungefähren ist. Andreas Stichmann ist ebenso ein suggestiver Erzähler: In seinem Erzählungsband „Loreley“ entblättert er Vignetten der Einsamkeit und nicht vergehender Hoffnungen.

Samtalet hölls i Rum för översättning på Bokmässan i Göteborg 2023 och arrangerades av Kulturrådet.

Als het maar lijkt of hij de winnaar is.”Trump is zelf-destructief, zegt Wolff. “En overal om hem heen zijn nog onderzoeken gaande. Hij is een oplichter, dat weet iedereen.”Volgens Wolff haat het Republikeinse partij-establishment Donald Trump. “Ze zouden er alles voor doen om van hem af te komen. Maar ze weten ook: als je hem vermoordt, dan moet-ie ook echt dood zijn. En niemand weet echt hoe je dat doet.”Trump verkeert in het Witte Huis in totale eenzaamheid, zet Wolff. Hij heeft nauwelijks medewerkers en kijkt de hele dag tv, ook in het Oval Office. “Een normaal mens zou breken. Maar hij leeft in het moment en op impulsen, blij als een mossel. Het enige succesvolle wat hij ooit heeft gedaan is: tv-persoonlijkheid zijn. Zijn presidentschap is daarvan de voortzetting.”Trump heeft geen plan. “Hij weet niet dat er een populistische agenda is. Daar moet hij altijd aan herinnerd worden. 'China slecht', heeft zijn voormalige strateeg Steve Bannon hem geleerd. En er is ‘De Muur’. Persoonlijk heeft Trump overigens niets tegen migratie.”Hij is een verkoper, zegt Wolff. “Voor een verkoper zijn er geen vijanden. Er zijn alleen kopers en niet-kopers. De enige in zijn omgeving die hij niet misbruikt voor zijn eigenbelang is zijn dochter Ivanka. De Trump Organisation is niet echt een bedrijf. het gaat om het promoten van Donald Trump. Zijn naam op gebouwen waarvan hij niet eens de eigenaar is. Dat hij echt rijk is, is fictie. Het is reality tv. Een show met elke dag een nieuw script.”Saoedi-Arabië zo goed als failliet, zegt wolff in Betrouwbare Bronnen. Trumps schoonzoon Jared Kushner helpt kroonprins Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) met het naar de beurs brengen van de nationale oliemaatschappij Saudi Aramco, zodat het koningshuis de steeds meer geld vragende Saoedische elite kan blijven betalen. Er is alleen één probleem: na 9/11 heeft Amerika een wet die slachtoffers het recht geeft Saoedische bedrijven aansprakelijk te stellen. Kushner zou MBS beloofd hebben die wet te schrappen. Zeker na de moord op Khashoggi - volgens een VN-rapport in opdracht van MBS - zal dat niet gebeuren.Als Amerika ze niet kan helpen, zijn de Saoedis gedwongen om geld aan te nemen van China, meent Wolff. Voor Kushner is steun van Bin Salman onontbeerlijk om zijn vredesplan voor het Midden-Oosten te doen slagen. “De Trumps en de Kushners leven hun leven op deze manier zolang ze ermee weg kunnen komen. Ooit zullen ze gepakt worden.”“Trump is president dankzij Steve Bannon. Het maakte ook van Steve een belangrijke stem in de wereld. Hij is nu geen marginale speler meer. De prijs daarvoor was omgaan met Donald Trump. Uiteindelijk kan Trump niet zonder hem, want in het hele Trump-universum is er maar één slimmerik en dat is Bannon. Hij is de enige met een coherente visie. En hij begrijpt Trump.”Vice-president Mike Pence is volgens Trump een 'religieuze gek', schrijft Wolff in zijn boek. “Pence maakt weinig indruk. Maar zijn vrouw Karen - die door Pence 'Moeder' genoemd wordt en dus door het hele Witte Huis - is een sterke persoonlijkheid die weet hoe ze het politieke spel moet spelen. Trump wilde de Witte Huis-dokter minister van Veteranenzaken maken. Iedereen vond die dokter een aardige vent, maar hij roddelde over een gynaecologische kwestie waarvoor hij Moeder over de vloer had gehad. Zij hoorde dat en voorkwam vervolgens dat hij minister werd. Zij is een bijzondere vrouw in het Witte Huis. Trump ziet vrouwen voornamelijk als seksueel attractief gezelschap.”“De president geeft je aandacht als je hem vleit.
