Das UNESCO Welterbe Oberes Mittelrheintal erstreckt sich von Rüdesheim und Bingen im Süden bis nach Koblenz im Norden. Mit 67 Kilometern stellt es zwar nur rund fünf Prozent des gesamten Flussverlaufs dar, wird aber vielfach als das schönste Stück des gesamten Rheins zwischen den Alpen und der Nordsee bezeichnet. Wir waren in der Region rund um die Loreley bei Sankt Goar unterwegs und haben uns mit der Geschäftsführerin des Zweckverbands Welterbe Oberes Mittelrheintal Nadya König-Lehrmann getroffen, um zu erfahren, was es hier zu entdecken gibt und wie sich die Region auf die BUGA 2029 vorbereitet. Um viele Tierarten drehen sich geheimnisvolle Mythen – sie gelten zum Beispiel als schlechte Omen oder Glücksbringer. Wir gehen in dieser Folge den Hintergründen nach: wie es zu diesem Aberglauben kommt und was hinter den Geschichten steckt, die man sich teilweise seit Jahrhunderten erzählt. Die Idee zur Folge hatte unsere Hörerin Loreley, die in Slowenien dem alten Glauben begegnet ist, die Grottenolme, die bei Starkregen manchmal aus den Karsthöhlen des dortigen Gebirges gespült werden, seien Babydrachen! Auch das schauen wir uns nochmal ganz genau an. Und dann brechen wir noch eine Lanze für den Goldfisch! Entgegen des allgemein gültigen Irrglaubens der Goldfisch hätte ein Gedächtnis wie ein Sieb, ist der nämlich ein cleveres Tier, und sein Erforscher Mr. Brown kämpft unermüdlich für das Image seines Forschungsobjektes. Am 26. März 1824 veröffentlichte Heinrich Heine sein weltberühmtes Loreley-Gedicht. Die Stadt St. Goar feiert das Jubiläum mit einem außergewöhnlichen Konzert, in dem ausschließlich Vertonungen dieses Gedichts zu hören sind. Einer der Interpreten ist der Opernsänger Falko Hönisch, der auch Bürgermeister von St. Goar ist.

Diese Folge „HOTZ & Frau Houmsi“ ist wahrhaft königlich. Sie hört sich an, wie sich eine Zugfahrt an der Burgenlandschaft der Pfalz entlang anfühlt – einfach wunderschön! Das reicht dann aber auch, denn in einer Burg wohnen, wollen weder Salwa noch Sebastian. Dafür müsste man sich sicher alle Möbel extra anfertigen lassen. Krank teuer. Und Sebastian ist ja eh eher so der Naturbursche des Podcasts und Salwa sowieso ein Stadtkind. Leider wird es deshalb auch nie einen gemeinsamen Urlaub von „Team Vegetarischer Wurschtsalat“ geben. Was die beiden wieder eint, ist ihre Leidenschaft für alt-deutsche Fabelwesen, sei es die Loreley aus der sexistischen Sage oder der Seelefant von "Urmel aus dem Eis", sowie ihre Sympathie für friedliche Fußballproteste. In dieser Folge geht es um neue Literatur von Barbara Kingsolver, Iris Wolff und Andreas Stichmann. Barbara Kingsolvers „Demon Copperhead“ ist ein praller, glorreicher Roman über Amerika und, na klar, in der Tradition Charles Dickens‘ geschrieben. In Kingsolvers mit dem Pulitzer-Preis ausgezeichnetes Buch setzt auch sein deutscher Verlag große Hoffnungen. Bestseller-Status wäre unbedingt angemessen: Wer das Lesen liebt, wird diesen Roman lieben. Wo Kingsolver ein 800-Seiten-Panorama hinlegt, ist ihre deutsche Kollegin Iris Wolff wieder im reduzierten, pointierten kleineren Format unterwegs. Ihr Roman „Lichtungen“ erzählt einmal mehr von Rumänien, dem Land, in dem Wolff geboren wurde. Tatsächlich „pointiert“ ist Wolffs kunstvolle Prosa natürlich insofern nicht, als sie eine Meisterin des poetisch Ungefähren ist. Andreas Stichmann ist ebenso ein suggestiver Erzähler: In seinem Erzählungsband „Loreley“ entblättert er Vignetten der Einsamkeit und nicht vergehender Hoffnungen.

Heute vor 95 Jahren fror der Rhein zu, beginnend an einer Engstelle nahe der Loreley.

Weiter ging es dann nach Koblenz, wo wir das Deutsche Eck besucht haben und mit der Seilbahn den Rhein überquert haben. Und ganz nebenbei wird Familien in der Region auch noch eine Menge Action und Spaß geboten. So abwechslungsreich die Landschaft entlang des Rheins ist, so abwechslungsreich sind auch die Möglichkeiten und Aktivitäten.
